Trigger warning: past rape (off page)

Another Brit soccer player that crosses the pond to play in America

So, Alex is the team goalie and attracted to his teammate’s girlfriend’s friend, Harper. Harper is a rape survivor and a bit introverted due to her trauma. These two run into each other in the park and begin to spend time together.

So, here was my major issue.....even though Harper is still impacted by the trauma of her rape and hasn’t been with anyone in 4 years, she was the aggressor in this relationship. I felt her actions weren’t realistic or true to her character. She is trying to get control of her life and maybe that’s why she was so aggressive, but I just couldn’t buy in to her behavior.

Alex does find out about the rape and there is a confrontation when he comes face to face with the rapist, which was exactly what I want a H to do.....kick someone’s a$$ to avenge his woman. 🤜

I thought the secondary characters added to the story (even the cat and dog).

Most of this story is off the soccer field, so if you are looking for some sports action you won’t find it here.

This might be a “me” thing, but I expected this to be a story of a woman who faces intimacy issues due to her rape and the unwavering support of true love that helps her overcome her traumatic past. Was Alex that guy.....absolutely. Was Harper the girl I wanted her to be.....not so much. Harper had no problem just jumping into bed with Alex and i felt the story became shallow and missed an opportunity for some real character depth.

Books 1 & 2 were both misses for me so maybe this just isn’t the series for me.

trigger warning for rape.

I found this book on amazon for free and was so excited, I'm always looking for a good new sports romance. This book was set in Seattle, with the hero being a soccer transplant from England. Alex gets to know Harper through his best friend, and eventually, they strike up a friendship filled with morning jogs.

When he finds out the reason why Harper is terrified of another jogger that frequents the same park, Alex becomes more involved than he expected.

Unfortunately, I just found this book boring and cliche. I did enjoy the two main characters but I didn't enjoy the rest of the cast (plain, boring and underdeveloped) and the plot was something I'd seen before and didn't pack the emotional kind of punch expected when considering the topics it covered.

Sono stata anch’io bambina di un calciatore innamorata.

Ebbene sì posso dirlo con certezza, mi sono innamorata di Alex Gordon, un protagonista maschile assolutamente positivo e splendido, e non per i suoi magnifici muscoli o per la sua avvenenza, ma per la sua silenziosa presenza rassicurante e per il suo rispetto per il genere femminile.

“Ero immune al solito fascino appiccicoso delle donne che volevano unicamente un’altra tacca sul letto.”

Un uomo all’apice del successo che non esita un attimo a mettere tutto in discussione perché ritiene di dover riparare un torto fatto alla donna di cui è innamorato.

Un idolo, amato e desiderato, che ha la capacità di innamorarsi e di anelare una vita sentimentale di un uomo normale, sfuggendo a riflettori e pettegolezzi propri della vita di una star.

“No, di solito restavo a distanza. Mi piacevano le donne. Solo, non mi piacevano i pettegolezzi, inevitabili essendo una stella dello sport sempre sotto al microscopio.”

Harper Jacobs frequenta Alex in quanto migliore amico e collega del fidanzato della sua migliore amica Olivia, ma è solo quando lo incrocia al parco, vittima di un momento di panico dovuto alla presenza di un'inquietante figura del suo passato, che lo vede, lo sente, e si smuove in lei qualcosa di sepolto da molto molto tempo.

“Non volevo la pietà di nessuno. Sicuramente, non quella del primo uomo che mi aveva fatta sentire viva dopo anni, che mi aveva fatto credere che forse, solo forse, avrei potuto riavere qualcosa che credevo perduto.”

Una dolcissima storia d’amore, raccontata con una scrittura “al peperoncino”: le pagine sono impregnate dell’eccitazione e della passione fra Harper e Alex, che vivono a volte situazioni a mio avviso imbarazzanti e che mi hanno colorato le guance di rosso, non dovute a scene hot, ma al simpatico disagio derivato dal loro manifesto desiderio e alle conseguenti prese in giro degli amici.

“La vittoria” è il secondo romanzo della serie Brit Boys, che può essere letto stand alone, anche se io consiglio di leggere prima il volume “Il gioco”, perché Liam e Olivia sono molto presenti nel secondo volume e ci sono molti richiami alla loro storia e, credetemi, una fatica sopportabile visto che anche Liam Reed ha un suo perché.

Alex Gordon è il miglior portiere sulla piazza, quasi imbattuto ma con questa serie e questo romanzo J. H. Croix ha fatto un bellissimo tiro in porta centrando in pieno la rete.

This is the second book in the series but can be read as a standalone. I enjoyed the The Play also.
I enjoyed the story of Alex and Harper. Alex was the strong silent type. Protective, yet gentle with the heroine and (animals). His background was not the best and he always tried to remain cool, calm and collected. Harper was great. She was a strong female that had to overcome some issues. 4 years ago, she was raped. The guy who assaulted her was given a very light sentence. She just realized that he lived near her new apartment. So we have two people with trust issues who find themselves in a relationship. Alex knows that Harper is holding back and he gives her the space to work out her issues. I loved that about him. The story is both sweet and sexy. I am enjoying the Brit Boys and look forward to the next one.

I’m a sucker for the strong, silent type (not to mention a big soccer fan), and Alex was all that. The author did a great job of portraying his intensity without the character using many words, but I don’t think his past was delved into as much as it could have been. Harper’s traumatic past and the way it impacted her response to, and relationship with, Alex was well done and realistic. On the flip side, it meant that a fair amount of the change going on in both characters was told to me as reader (rather than shown). They were a little too self-aware of their own shortcomings and realizations. The sexy scenes were just right, I could certainly feel the chemistry!

leggere e finire questo libro.............
la storia si era intravista nel primo volume ma sinceramente non decolla
lei cambia idea di continuo, lui, povero, che non riesce a starle dietro
il tema della violenza non viene approfondito ma lasciato lì come fosse un elemento necessario per la storia ma che non c'entra nulla
anche le scene "hot" sono un ripetersi senza avere quel qualcosa in più che caratterizza e differenzia un sport romance da un altro
solo alla fine la parte più fluida nella lettura che riesce a farsi leggere con una certa scorrevolezza
che peccato!

Dopo Il Gioco, torna, sempre grazie alla Queen Edizioni, J.H. Croix con il secondo capitolo della serie Brit Boys con titolo La Vittoria.

Attenzione: Seppur trattandosi di una serie di autoconclusivi, consiglio di leggere i vari romanzi in ordine di pubblicazione onde evitare eventuali spoiler sulla nascita delle relazioni precedenti

Alex Gordon, è il migliore amico di Liam – protagonista insieme ad Olivia de Il Gioco – e il portiere dei Seattle Stars, con un fisico da sex symbol e una bellezza statuaria. Potrebbe far impazzire qualsiasi donna del pianeta ma Alex, è completamente differente dai suoi colleghi donnaioli impenitenti e sciupa femmine.

Lui, nonostante il suo status di giocatore di calcio professionista e la sua notorietà, mantiene un basso profilo e preferisce passare una serata con gli amici piuttosto che nel letto di una donna.

Seppur con un elevato livello di autostima, non possiede un briciolo di arroganza anzi, per lui, il bene del prossimo, viene sempre prima di quello per sé stesso: è il classico “bravo ragazzo” che si farebbe in quattro per un amico.

«Secondo me, Alex è un tenerone. È rude e ombroso all’esterno, ma è così carino. Quando l’anno scorso, dopo l’operazione, Liam era in convalescenza, Alex è stato come un padre per lui, controllando che non saltasse neanche una visita. È un bravo ragazzo.»

Proteggere e difendere gli altri è nella sua indole, si è sempre battuto per salvaguardare i più deboli sin da quando, tra le mura domestiche, un padre violento ed alcolizzato, riversava tutta la propria rabbia nei confronti della madre, suoi e delle due sorelle.

Liam mi prendeva sempre in giro perché volevo “proteggere il mondo intero”. Io non volevo veder soffrire nessuno. Mai. Avevo i miei motivi, ma in quel momento non avevano particolare importanza. Quello che importava era prendermi cura di Harper.

Proprio, questa sua vena altruista, lo porta a soccorrere la giovane e bella Harper Jacobs quando, durante una corsa al parco, si trova in difficoltà, dopo aver visto un uomo, appartenente al suo doloroso passato, che la osservava.

Si prende cura di lei, la sorregge e le dona conforto come ogni principe azzurro farebbe con la bella principessa.

Prima della settimana precedente l’avevo trovata interessante, ed ero stato attirato dall’idea di scoprire cosa ci fosse oltre i muri invisibili che aveva eretto intorno a sé. Ma dopo averla vista rifugiarsi nella paura, all’incontro con quell’uomo nel parco, per poi tornare alla normalità e baciarmi audacemente, ero diventato determinato a sfondare le sue barriere. Quello, e fare un sacco di altre cose oltre a baciarla. Il suo bacio era stato così intenso che mi diventava duro solo a pensarci.

Ma Harper, non è una principessa. Harper, è una di quelle giovani donne che quattro anni prima, ha subito uno stupro e che tiene ancora nel cuore il dolore del danno subito.

Harper, è una sopravvissuta, una donna spezzata che per quattro lunghi anni ha eretto intorno al proprio cuore una fortezza invalicabile ma che, nel momento in cui, scorge, lo sguardo puro di Alex riconosce qualcuno a cui poter donare fiducia ma soprattutto qualcuno che possa donarle la speranza di tornare ad essere una ragazza normale.

Nell’attimo stesso in cui lo avevo rivisto, mi ero ricordata dell’effetto che mi faceva. Era come una pietra focaia: mandava scintille che minacciavano di farmi incendiare.

Una ragazza che potrebbe tornare ad amare.

Riuscirà Alex ad aprire un varco nel cuore di Harper a segnare un goal?

Per scoprirlo non vi resta che lasciarvi catturare dalle pagine di La vittoria.

A dire la verità, mi aveva sollevata pensare che, dopo quello che era successo, le relazioni semplicemente non fossero una cosa per me. Il melodramma, l’incertezza, erano tutte cose che avevo creduto di riuscire a evitare. Poi, era arrivato Alex. Un solo bacio mi aveva fatta quasi sciogliere.

Abbiamo già conosciuto tra le pagine de Il Gioco lo stile fresco, fluido e coinvolgente di J.H. Croix e La Vittoria, ci conferma ulteriormente non solo, le sue capacità di scrittura ma anche, quella di catturare il lettore attraverso una trama ben riuscita condita da due protagonisti veramente interessanti.

Lo splendido Alex, con la sua sensibilità ed il suo desiderio di comprendere a pieno Harper, i suoi modi delicati, il suo non voler forzare la mano ma prendere solo quel poco che riesce ad ottenere, piano piano, passo passo, senza alcuna forzatura né fretta.

In realtà, pensare a Harper non era qualcosa da cui volevo fuggire ma, quando si trattava di lei, faticavo a ragionare con lucidità. Avevo sempre saputo che quello che c’era tra noi per me non era una cosa superficiale, ma non ero preparato a come mi sarei sentito a stare con lei.

Un ragazzo così controllato e metodico, nella vita come in campo, ma che quando si tratta di Harper, perde ogni freno e permette, alla Belva che è in lui, di uscir fuori con l’unico scopo di proteggere e colpire.

E se Alex è delicato e non desidera forzare la mano, Harper, al contrario, è molto più determinata e smaniosa di riappropriarsi di quello che quattro anni prima le è stato rubato, non si commisera né desidera essere trattata con i guanti di velluto.

Inclinò la testa di lato, sollevando un angolo della bocca. Oh. Mio. Dio. Il mio cuore accelerò i battiti e il mio basso ventre si contrasse. Credevo di essermi lasciata alle spalle in modo permanente qualsiasi cosa somigliasse alla lussuria. Eppure, bastava un sorriso di Alex per farmi sentire come se dentro di me fossero scoppiati dei fuochi d’artificio.

Ha piena fiducia in lui e, quando si lascia andare, crede di essere quello che non è mai stata, una ragazza disinibita e ben disposta a concedersi per una notte e via, ma Harper non è quel tipo di donna e ben presto la vera natura dei suoi sentimenti prende forma.

Ritroveremo ovviamente tutti gli altri protagonisti della serie: Liam, Olivia, Daisy, Ethan e Tristan più un’interessante new entry, Zoe, e, attraverso i POV alternati di Alex ed Harper scopriremo nuove informazioni su ognuno di loro. Ma non solo, saremo testimoni, infatti, dell’amicizia che li accomuna e li unisce come un’unica grande famiglia.

A questo punto, la domanda appare superflua, consiglio la lettura de La Vittoria?

I reviewed this book as part of an arc program. I love this series, it is a sweet series about British soccer players that play in the US. This book tells the story of Alex and Harper. Alex is the strong, silent type known for being quiet and wanting to protect the world. he is the goaltender and Best friend to Liam. Alex finds Harper attractive and is interested in her, but he knows she is guarded and quiet. Harper is one of Olivia's best friends and has a real problem trusting people and letting them close. Harper was raped while she was in college and hasn't dated in over four years. She sees Alex as a guy she knows is a good guy from her friends Olivia and Liam. Harper meets him one day in the park, but is confronted by her past and panics. Alex knows something caused Harper to panic, so he walks her home and helps her calm down. Harper then decides to try to live her life and kisses Alex. This book has a variety of emotions that you can't help but feel along with the characters. It is well written about the after effects of a trauma and how it affects not only the victim, but others in their life. I think Alex and Harper were so good together and Alex was such a protective force that Harper felt she could take on the world. Can't wait for Ethan's book!

This is an interesting concept for a book. I wasn't too into it, to be honest. I have nothing against anything that was in it, as in a woman that had been raped. But it was the constant bringing up the rape. I understand with a new relationship it is something that will happen. But he is the one having a huge problem with this. So it kinda turned me off. I only got half way through and I couldn't go any further.
I really hate to write bad reviews, and I hope others enjoyed this book.

Iniziamo come sempre dalla trama.

Alex e Harper, due persone diverse ma uguali. Entrambi hanno un bisogno di amare ed essere amati, nessuno dei due pensa di essere pronto.

Il primo, un calciatore inglese di successo e trasferito a Seattle, quello che potremmo definire un bravo ragazzo, che cerca di stare lontano dai riflettori, dal mondo del gossip. Una persona che si è sempre posto nella condizione di difendere il prossimo, di preoccuparsi di chi era in difficoltà

"Ero abituato a preoccuparmi per le altre persone. Avevo passato tutta la mia infanzia a preoccuparmi per mia madre e le mie due sorelle.”

Ha sempre dovuto sottostare a una pressione mentale costante, il suo ruolo di portiere nella squadra lo ha allenato non solo fisicamente, ma soprattutto caratterialmente: ora dimostra una calma serafica e una grande attenzione.

Harper è una giovane donna immersa nel suo dolore, che vive con un cuore intrappolato nel passato. Lei stessa si è costruita una fortezza incrollabile, indistruttibile per riuscire a guarire quelle ferite profonde impresse sulla sua anima.
Aveva impressa nel suo sguardo la tristezza.
Sfugge dal suo vissuto, precludendosi il presente e il futuro. Questo fino a quando Alex non riesce a fare breccia in quella corazza rinforzata che mantiene intorno a sé

“Non sapevo che baciare Alex sarebbe stato questo: una pazzia inebriante, coinvolgente, che mi aveva fatta sentire viva come mai prima di allora.”

Tra loro, due persone silenziose, si innesca un gioco di sguardi, una complicità elevata, sono due esseri affini che scatenano un forte desiderio ogni volta che si ritrovano nella stessa stanza

“[…], quel bisogno intenso di connessione, il desiderio apparentemente inappagabile di lui, e un’intimità che, ogni volta che eravamo insieme, ci legava sempre di più.”

Le corse mattutine lungo il Puget Sound protetta da Alex e il suo fedele cane, un gattino spaurito che mostra il lato dolce del portiere, l’istinto protettivo di lui e la voglia di essere difesa e di tornare a gustarsi la vita di lei, fanno del libro un qualcosa di piacevole da leggere.
La paura che prova Harper la si può sentire, provare sulla propria pelle.
La calma che si trasforma in rabbia di Alex sembra quasi di vederla prendere forma fino a quando non esplode.

Datevi la possibilità di conoscere questa coppia che cerca solo di amare ed essere amata, in fondo non chiedono poi così tanto.

La Vittoria è il secondo volume autoconclusivo della serie Sport Romance Brit Boys, ambientata nel favoloso mondo del calcio. Nel primo romanzo abbiamo assistito alla nascita dell’amore tra Liam, centrocampista britannico di talento e Olivia, medico ortopedico.
In questo secondo volume, invece, conosceremo meglio Alex Gordon, portiere britannico che gioca con Liam nei Seattle Stars, e Harper Jacobs, migliore amica di Olivia e fisioterapista.


La Vittoria è un bellissimo Sport Romance, con una storia importante e toccante, due personaggi meravigliosi e il mondo del calcio sullo sfondo.
Sono davvero felice di aver intrapreso questo viaggio con la serie Brit Boys perché se il primo romanzo mi aveva conquistato immediatamente, il secondo ha confermato e affermato ulteriormente le mie prime impressioni.

Grazie al Pov alternato è facile imparare a conoscere bene entrambi i protagonisti e capire cosa li spinga a comportarsi in certi modi. La storia di amore tra Alex e Harper si evolve in modo lento ma costante e il loro rapporto mi è piaciuto tanto, Alex è super protettivo e premuroso, mentre Harper dimostra di avere una grande personalità e tanto coraggio, un grande esempio per ogni donna.
La trama si evolve in modo costante e la narrazione corre veloce e il romanzo si legge in fretta.
Lo stile di scrittura di J. H. Croix mi piace tantissimo perché è diretto, scorrevole, intenso al momento giusto e riesce a delineare benissimo i suoi personaggi. Non mancano momenti divertenti e altri più intensi e riflessivi. Le scene erotiche hanno una certa importanza, l’autrice è bravissima a inserirle al momento giusto rendendo il rapporto tra i due protagonisti ancora più ricco e sfaccettato. Inoltre adoro il suo modo di parlare di calcio, uno sport che negli Stati Uniti sta crescendo molto lentamente. Non è raro trovare giocatori europei che, a fine carriera, si trasferiscono negli States per giocare nella MLS (Major League Soccer, ossia la nostra Serie A).
Mi è piaciuto tantissimo ritrovare anche Liam e Olivia, sono particolarmente affezionata a entrambi perché sono il padrino e la madrina di questa serie che si conferma davvero bella, almeno per quanto mi riguarda.
Sia Liam sia Olivia saranno importanti per Alex e Harper, inoltre conosceremo meglio anche Daisy e l’autrice ha introdotto un altro personaggio che penso che diventerà importante.
E poi adoro il calcio, al di là della squadra che tifo, mi piace guardare le partite in generale. Un po’ come mi capita anche per la pallavolo e il basket.
Non posso che ringraziare Queen Edizioni per aver portato in Italia questa bellissima serie, attendo con ansia il prossimo volume e penso anche di aver capito chi saranno i protagonisti. Quello che è ormai certo è che sarà un’altra bellissima lettura.

I know that a good book can start with an hot cover. OK OK, I know the saying that we can't judge a book by its cover but oh boy... This cover is hot...
If you deny it you really need new glasses. Just saying...
J. H. Croix is a new author to me and I can't get enough of her. Her writing is simple, intense, heartfelt and with a touch of sassyness.
Big Win explores the lifes of Alex and Harper.
Alex is the international soccer start, but despite he's famous he's not a cocky guy. He has both feet on the ground and didn't let fans get into his head. He knows what he wants, when he wants and it's not afraid of demanding it. When he sets his eyes on the beautiful Harper he's doomed. Just one kiss left him hooked. But can he commit? Can he forget his troubled past?
Harper is a physical therapist and a very sweet girl with a dark past that keeps hunting her. She was severely hurt in the past and because that she can't trust no-one.

Breathtaking story with so much love I bombed that I felt overwhelmed. The feeling behind each chapter was so intense that made the reading intense ans raw.
I love the conflict of feelings between the characters, loved the happy scenes as well as the sad ones. I simply love a story that can make my skin crawl, that can make me angry and happy at the same time.
Wanna know a secret? We have some pretty good hot scenes into the mix. Oh boy!
Thank you J. H. Croix foe this breathtaking story and I can't wait for the next book from this series.

Dopo una lettura emotivamente pesante avevo decisamente bisogno di qualcosa così. Ebbene sì, quest’autrice con ogni sua uscita mi mette allegria, mi da quel senso di spensieratezza e di felicità che solo alla soglia dei vent’anni o poco più puoi avere, dove tutto sembra lontano, dove il futuro ti si apre davanti come un ventaglio di opportunità e dove l’amore è quel sentimento bellissimo che ti fa vivere in una favola.

Eccoci quindi al secondo appuntamento con i bellissimi giocato di Seattle.

Due ragazzi apparentemente agli antipodi, lui taciturno, sempre composto, il classico ragazzo che sembra nulla possa turbarlo, e lei, con un bagaglio pesante sulle spalle e mille dubbi sul suo futuro amoroso.

Una storia che cresce piano, dove gli sguardi dicono più di mille parole e dove un parco e un paio di scarpe da tennis fanno da cornice a questo bel sentimento che piano piano si fa strada nei cuori dei due protagonisti.

Ho divorato il libro, volevo e dovevo sapere come andava a finire, avevo un disperato bisogno dell’happy ending, di vivere attraverso le pagine l’amore di questi due magnifici ragazzi.

Un’amore puro, di quelli totalizzanti, che ti saturano il cuore e ti fanno sognare ad occhi aperti.

Un amore nato tra i sentieri di un parco di Seattle, un amore che lenisce le brutte ferite del passato facendoti guardare al futuro con occhi diversi.

Amo la scrittura dell’autrice, scorrevole, appassionante e assolutamente meravigliosa…

Ora non mi resta e non ci resta, di aspettare la prossima uscita.

I voluntarily review To Win Her by J. H. Croix for receiving an Advanced Reader Copy.

I loved this book. I like how this is about the issue of the after effects of being raped and sex and how it takes a special kind of person to help you get through those effects and be able to move on with life even if you weren't looking for it. Too many people don't want to talk about rape and actually go through with the trial to convict the criminal. The whole process of pre trial and trial can leave you feeling like it was your fault or that you did something wrong and not the other way around.
Harper was raped 4 years ago and has not been interested in anyone since. She believes that she will never be interested in a man in that way ever again. Then she runs in to Alex in the park as she is walking her dog. They know each other as their best friends are engaged. Sparks start to fly between them and Alex wants to take things slow but Harper sees the man who basically got away with raping her while they are in the park and decides that what she needs is a fling with Alex to overcome her lack of interested in sex. Once Alex finds out what happened to Harper he tries to slow things down even more but that doesn't work. Can Alex convince Harper that he wants a long-term relationship not just a fling? What happens when he meets the man that raped her when he is alone?

My e-reader is sizzling!

Wow! This book has been on my re-read list for a long while. It's the second JH Croix book that I've read and one of my favorites.

Why? The writing! Ms. Croix really knows how to weave a story that has strong characters, swoon-worthy dialogue, and steamy scenes.

For me, what makes this book are the characters. Alex is strong and silent. Once he sets his sights on Harper, he's 100% ... not that one would know it from his speech (because he really doesn't talk much). This is where the author's writing skill comes in. The back and forth chapters from each main character's point of view gives us a glimpse into Alex's mind ... and this is where I was pulled in. He's all in for Harper, especially when she comes back into the sights of a former boyfriend who is on the offense.

Harper's learning to trust again, both emotionally and physically. When the former boyfriend comes back on the scene, she realizes that she still has unresolved issues to work through.

This book is a stand-alone with a HEA but it's got familiar characters I loved from the previous book The Play, and it sets up the next book in the series!

I purchased this book based on book #1 in this series. Highly recommended by me!!!

Wow! Another great book by J.H. Croix! Her descriptions are so realistic I was walking in the Seattle rain along with Alex and Harper. Alex is a football (soccer to us in the USA) player from England who has come to Seattle to play for their team. He is good friends with Liam, who was the hero in Book 1. He’s the rock in their friendship, always level-headed and calm. Until he meets Harper.

Harper is good friends with Olivia, heroine in Book 1. Harper went through something horrific in her past and has everlasting emotional scars because of it. When her past rears its ugly head, Alex is there for her, but can she let down her defenses enough to find love?

I absolutely love that J.H. Croix makes her characters so realistic. Her characters aren’t fake somebodies, they have real problems that are completely relatable to you and me.

This is a must read! HEA, no cliffhangers and you don’t have to read Book 1 to understand Book 2, but you will want to just because it is so good. I’m looking forward to the next books in the series to find out how Ethan, Tristan, and Daisy find their HEAs.

E’ bello ritrovare anche i due personaggi che avevamo già conosciuto e amato nel primo volume, Olivia e Liam e conoscerne l’evoluzione della loro storia d’amore. Anche se in secondo piano. I protagonisti ora sono Harper, migliore amica di Olivia e Alex, miglior amico di Liam.

Lui è un uomo tutto d’un pezzo, portiere della squadra di calcio, dotato di grande sensibilità. E’ taciturno sì, ma nel suo silenzio sa essere presente e importante per tutti. Uno scoglio su cui si può contare sempre e appigliarsi in qualsiasi momento. Questa sua calma perenne è dovuta ad un passato difficile, ma che ha saputo dargli grande forza e coraggio.

Anche Lei è riservata e silenziosa, dovuto ad un episodio orribile accadutogli quattro anni prima, ma solo quando è con Alex, riesce a sentirsi nuovamente libera e serena. Inizierà dentro di lei un alternarsi di sentimenti, una parte vorrebbe finalmente il suo lieto fine, mentre l’altra ne ha paura.

Tra alti e bassi, scene piccanti e altre ricche invece di tensione, questo romanzo riuscirà a coinvolgervi fino alle ultime pagine.

I couldn't make it through the stilted prose

I'd heard a lot of good things about Ms. Croix's work, so I was willing to give her books a shot. I asked which book and was told any book, so I took the recommender at their word. Big mistake. I picked this up and boy was I disappointed.

Alex is supposed to be a footballer from Britain, but he sounds more like how an American thinks a Brit sounds and then forgets that just like America there are regionalisms and vernacular. The writing was unpolished. Like I was reading a first draft of a novel. The characters inner dialogues sounded the same and their banter and flirting fell flat.

I wanted to give this a shot, but I really got bored. I feel this really needs a good line edit, Brit pick, and proofread since I found two tense errors and one grammar error in the first two paragraphs. Either that or hire a better ghostwriter since she's put out 40+ books in 4 years.

One star and a DNF. I'll see if the person who recced her knows of a better place to start. This book wasn't it.

Big Win is the perfect title for this book in more ways than one.

Having spent the last four years eschewing close relationships with anyone but her closest friends after a life-changing incident, Harper must face her inner turmoil and emotions when she meets Alex and almost instantly falls head over heels in love with him.
The chemistry between the two is off the charts hot and could burn the pages of your e-reader. But due to her walls designed to protect her from deeper feelings, Harper tends to get hot and cold towards Alex ...

Both characters are intense and very well-developed. They are relatable to a tee and I loved them both so much. Alex for his considerate, caring and protective personality and Harper for her fighting spirit and bold nature that she held on to, despite all she has been through.
This book is a real page-turner and a great read, and as always with Ms. Croix's books, it deals with a serious subject that she once again handles carefully and sensitively. It's for a reason that she's one of my favorite authors of all time.

Big Win is the second book in Brit Boys Sports series. It’s emotional, sweet, tender, raw, rewarding story with an engaging characters. I thoroughly enjoyed it and loved it. It’s well written and developed. Harper and Alex have sizzling, hot, off the charts chemistry and connection. Alex is so patient and I loved the way he was treating Harper and was determined to bring her walls down so he can show her the real him and that they could be great. They have their ups and downs due to some trauma/past. They were both in denial but for different reasons. Neither wanted a relationship but there was something about both of them that they found irresisitble. Pull was strong. This is also a story about how to trust again and overcome your fear. Harper is such a strong person. I admire her. They completed each other perfectly.
It kept me engrossed from start to finish. I recommend it and this series.

This book is the second in the series so far but you can read it as a standalone. This book is about Alex who is a Seattle Star Soccer Player and a ladies man. When he met Harper who is a teammates significant others best friend. She is a beautiful woman who happens to find trusting a man very difficult. When her and Alex meet, she turns his world completely upside down. Harper has had a rough past and when Alex finds out what has happened to her, all he wants to do is protect her. The attraction between these 2 is very strong but with Harper not having a relationship in about 4 years and her issues with men can she get over this in order to proceed with Alex? You are going to have to read the book to find out. I am not the type of reviewer to tell you what happens, if I did you woulnd't want to read the book. It's enjoyable. I voluntarily read an Advanced Reader's Copy of this book.

I read this back to back with the first in the series, The Play and I have to say so far that this one is my favourite. I LOVED Alex and Harper and the depth JH Croix takes us on their difficult journeys overcoming their own past fear and letting their hearts be open for each other. Alex was strong and exactly what Harper needed to overcome her past, while Harper allowed Alex to feel loved and accepted.

I really enjoyed all of the characters in this story and there is a real camaraderie that JH Croix manages to write so beautifully and ensure the readers feel very much part of this team. I look forward to exploring more from the Seattle Stars and can't wait for the next in the series!

Awesome contemporary sports/soccer romance. Alex is a Brit who came to a U.S. soccer team with four of his 'mates', friends. Months ago he met Harper and he felt an electric pull towards her. Unfortunately, Harper has numerous walls built around herself to keep people away especially men. Yet when she meets Alex she feels a pull towards him. She also trusts Alex which rarely ever happens around been after her attack four years ago. Alex knows he wants something with Harper but isn't sure how to proceed. This can be an reminder and emotional for people who have suffered at the hands of another. I received a complementary copy of this book and chose to write a review. I'm very much looking forward to reading future books by this author.

Meh is an overstatement

I liked the first book. Let’s just say, stop there. Even though this was free to read with unlimited, you’ll never get you 3 hours back and time is money, right.

First, it claims steamy. I’m 3 boring sentences hardly equals steamy sex scene. Weak. Next, both Harper and Alex are just sad sacks. I don’t even really know what to say. Harper is selfish and pretty much dumb, like literally not smart. Alex, seriously, can’t keep it in his pants (but watch out cause he’s so dull you might pass out on him!) any time he’s around Harper and therefore let’s her use him for and distract him with sex. That dudes an idiot too.

But why did I keep reading when chapter after chapter I’m think this book sucks. When does it get good...?

Good story

I would have liked to give more stars but I just didn’t feel the connection between Alex and Harper.
I’ve been in Harpers shoes and I know the anger of justice not being served. I know Harper was strong before but felt she had a lot of unresolved issues to the point she was immature.
Alex of course was the gorgeous Brit and who doesn’t love them? Alex is dealing with his own past, which is why he’s so quiet but that wasn’t addressed well and just became his character trait. Alex and Harper telling their friends how they felt about the other was a bit strange. They never seemed to talk to each other but relayed their feelings to each other through their friends, and sex, lots of sex. Just wish they were more verbal with each other.
