Weddings in the City #3

Marriage in a Minute

Rate this book

What kind of moron pretends to be broke then makes the girl pay for his expensive drink and his Uber home?

And what kind of idiot marries a tool like that?

Oh right, me, that’s who.

You’d think that with living with my grandmother who makes candles that smell like her vag and a foul-mouthed parrot, I would have enough drama in my life.

But when my wedding planning firm organizes four marriages at first sight, I found myself at the altar pledging my eternal hatred to Mr. I Think Women Are Gold Diggers And I’m Going To Be Obnoxious Until I Set You Off And Make You Prove It.

We are not compatible. (Shocking!)

Chris Winchester is a billionaire with serious trust issues, and I am a photographer trying to survive in the world of high-end weddings.

And the billionaire’s penthouse is about to be Marriage and a Murder if he doesn’t stop hitting his snooze button a thousand bazillion times in the morning while I’m trying to work and get my life back on track.

I storm into his bedroom to give him a piece of my mind and destroy that stupid alarm clock…

And of course, he’s not wearing anything except a tiny corner of his high thread count sheets.

So I might have had a peek at that muscular chest, washboard abs, and the barely-covered bulge.

Apparently, I am the proud owner of a hot AF husband. Who knew?

But I will not have the full marriage experience.

Love makes a marriage, not hate.

But when Chris says in that deep voice,

“Hate sex makes great sex.”

That might be the first thing in the marriage we agree on.

This standalone, full-length, fun romantic comedy has no cliffhangers but does have a swoon-worthy HEA! This book has tons of STEAM, a billionaire with a bad attitude, and a heroine who has had it up to her sweetheart neckline with wedding drama.

I just wrote a somewhat thorough review and it got deleted. This book is not worthy enough for me to rewrite it. All you need to know is that the premise does not live up to its potential. The characters are flat and annoying. The comedic relief was barely used, and when it was it was in such an exaggerated way that little joy could be taken from it.

2/5 Stars. Would Not Recommend.

I love the fake relationship theme. I adore second chances. And I live for just about anything reality TV related. This book gave me a little bit of all of those, mixed together with the over-the-top zaniness I’ve come to associate with the author’s work. I think Grace may be my new spirit animal. She’s fierce. She’s independent. And she won’t put up with crap from anybody. I teetered on the fence about Chris for a lot of this book. He’s a jerk. But he’s sweet. But he’s a jerk. But he’s got more dysfunctional parental drama than any ten people might normally have. So, yeah, I had a difficult time deciding whether I really liked him or not. In the end, while I maybe don’t love him quite as much as Grace does, I still fell a little bit in love with Chris. I enjoyed popping in on some of the New York Svenssons, and seeing a Holbrook or two, but I have to admit that I missed the quirky denizens of Harrogate just a bit. I’m not sure what we’re in store for next, but I’m already looking forward to it, whatever it is.

This romantic comedy will keep you in stitches. Grace and Chris will definitely set your Kindle on fire. She's a high end wedding photographer and he's a hedge fund billionaire who is paranoid of gold diggers. Fate keeps bringing them together first from a dating app where he stiffs her for his Uber and expensive drink. Second on a reality show where she's a fake bride for a fake wedding. Fate has it that a glitch causes their fake wedding to actually be real. A hate love relationship that is over the top at times. Chris takes a little getting used to as he is spoiled, arrogant and rude, but his parents are worse. Things tend to get pretty steamy quick so grab a cold drink, a comfy spot and let the juices start flowing. I read a free arc via Booksprout and voluntarily chose to write a review

Hold onto your sides because you will be laughing so hard

I have read several books by Alina Jacobs and none has disappointed me....including Marriage in a Minute. This rom-com story is just that...romantic and a whole lot of laugh out loud funny. This zany story is about Chris and Grace and reminds me of the very funny Lucy and Desi show as the story-line is just plain wacky but in the best way possible.
I loved this story and would RECOMMEND this book to anyone that wants or needs some laughs in their life.

If you are looking for laugh out loud books that will have you laughing at the craziness the characters go though, Alina Jacobs is your author. This is the second book in the series, but a standalone that you can jump right into.

Grace and Chris' banter and developing relationship, the secondary characters, and a great HEA made this a really fun read. There are some hilarious moments and some sweet ones too. Also, if you've read some of Alina's other series, you'll probably recognize a few call outs to those as well.

Thank you to the author for providing an ARC for an honest review.

Seriously? This is one eccentric, idiotic character and scenario after another.
Not funny at all.
The measuring/betting/sharing of photographs of the hero's said monster cock, was in bad taste and if the roles were reversed I'm sure deemed as inappropriate despite the hero's acknowledgement afterwards.
Moving on. Chris is ridiculous. An adult billionaire with asshole parents who insult his existance every time they open their mouths. How can he not see that? Maybe because he's too busy partying and sleeping til the pm each day?
Grace, I wouldn't hire her or her friends. The wedding planning/catering/dress and photography all in one appears to only cater for rich dickheads. I don't care how much they're paying, they're assholes.
The bird that doesn't repeat but rather follows conversation and situation and seemingly knows what's going on around it? Stupid. Vagina candles. Naked yoga. Oh, strip poker with your fake wife's naked-yoga and vagina-candle-making grandma with your mates? What?
What?
What the actual f@#%?
Grace definitely consented to their bedroom activities, but the fact that he set out to deliberately ensure they would no longer qualify for an annulment, again, bad taste. Yuck.
Nope.

Spoiled billionaire, fake relationship, reality show, spicy rom com.

I love this type of book. No angst, comedy, hot billionaires with hot spice thrown in. Nice and light. Is it for everyone? No. But it is my cup of hot chocolate. I don't want to be sad or anxious with the books I read.

I listened to the audiobook of this, and loved it! I think that hearing the voices gives you so much more as a reader. You really can feel the emotions. You connect much quicker to the characters as well. These narrators were top notch.

This is not the first book in the series, but it can be read as a complete stand-alone. However I think you will get more out of it if you have read the other books as you have met some of the characters before. But don’t let that deter you. This can be a stand-alone. But it will make you want to read all the other books!

You will get some fun little Easter eggs though if you have read some of the other series. But they are just minor, so if you haven't read the books you won't miss anything. But if you have the Easter eggs will give you quite a giggle.

I read to the 52% point

A little more than halfway through, I realized I was not really enjoying this ‘romance’.
The H, as he is often called, is a ‘man-child’. Actually more a selfish brat, than a professional hedge fund manager.
The h is a ridiculously hard working photographer.
The nod to comedy, I presume, was supposed to be the foul-mouthed grandmother, and her equally foul-mouthed parrot. Neither of which, I found funny.
For me, this is a waste of time, and one I don’t care to finish. It is definitely not a book I could, in good conscience, recommend.

I did not respect the main characters, especially the girl. She was supposed to promote her wedding planning and more business. However, she showed up hungover, in.a dress that didn't fit/was an odd style, and spilled stuff all over herself. She seemed to be yelling and complaining a lot.

The way this author writes older characters, like the grandmother here and Ida in the Harrogate series, is really bizarre. They're not kind portraits either, and I don't get why some readers find it funny. More like they're jokes themselves than telling jokes.

The story had potential, as did the characters, but it was all too over the top and “zany” as opposed to actually being funny.

Loved her, loved him, loved them, loved their story!

The headline was my review! Just joking... I think this was my favorite Alina Jacobs book, with a reality wedding show featuring a man and woman who hated each other when they met being matched up as bride and groom, a sex therapist and a psychologist coaching the four married couples throughout the season, an invasive parrot, and a final episode when each couple announces whether they'll be staying together or divorcing. Grace Fulton, the photographer in the Weddings in the City collaborative, is paired with Chris Winchester, a billionaire who pretended to be poor at their first date to weed out the gold diggers. Grace, offended, stormed out of his fake tiny apartment. A year or so later, Chris loses a poker game against three Svensson brothers and for his penalty has to go on Marriage in a Minute, a reality show that marries a man and a woman who haven't met before. Grace gets sucked into the show by nodding and smiling and not paying attention during a meeting with the show's producer--yet another Svensson brother. (The Svenssons appear in many Jacobs books!) When the producer tells Grace that she'll be matched with his younger brother, he doesn't know that the eldest brother shut down that plan and the brother selected to take his place assigned his role to Chris.

At the wedding, the happy couple is unpleasantly surprised to find that their enemy is now their spouse--on national TV, no less! The cameras prevent them from making a scene, but they relax, knowing that their marriage is fake and they will not see each other after filming ends. Then the producer drops a bomb: their marriage certificate, and only theirs, was accidentally filed, so their fake marriage is real.

The show requires footage of the couple moving in together and getting into bed on the wedding night. Chris is horrified by Grace's collection of food pillows--shrimp, onion rings, and so forth--and Grace is horrified by his unused kitchen, which caterer Elsie would love. Grace gamely climbs into Chris's king-size bed, and jumps out as soon as the camera crew leaves...but not before noticing how hard his muscles are...

Since their marriage is real, they can only end it via divorce or annulment. Annulment saves them drawn-out divorce hearings, so they agree to pursue an annulment. However, the criterion for annulment is non-consummation, so they do their best but can't resist the desire between them. Several explicit sex scenes follow (consider this a warning for readers who prefer not getting more education than health class provided), and they start to fall in love. Just three problems with their pursuit of happiness: his ferocious father and whiny mother (both of whom show up with sob stories and expect to live in his condo) and her outrageous grandmother, who makes candles half-naked and burned up the apartment they shared. Gran and her parrot, who spouts phrases like "air raid!" and "stranger danger!" at inopportune moments, moved into Chris's condo with Grace after the fire, so it's a bit crowded. Chris has lost his billionaire confidence and reverted to the boy who can't handle his parents' non-stop bickering. Grace, who works with bridezillas and their irate families nearly every weekend, saves the day by establishing territory within the condo and putting Gran on border patrol. Problem solved!

Meanwhile, Chris's father pushes him to get an annulment right away and crashes a meeting between Chris and those poker-playing Svenssons, who turn out to be lawyers. They learn that Chris's grandfather has left ten billion dollars to either Chris or his father, on the condition that he finds someone to love within five years of his death. Chris vows to stay married to Grace for the remaining four weeks and divorce her after the payment hits his account.

Grace has been working on a coffee table book for brides and, despite a knee-jerk rejection by Addison (assistant editor and Chris's former fiancee), gets a nod from the editor, provided she can produce an attention-getting article. Grace, having not written anything longer than captions for her scrapbooks, is stumped. But after being confronted by Addison, her friend Linneah, and his father with a college scrapbook containing a plan to marry her millionaire crush, Chris turns on Grace and accuses her of trying to steal his money and passing off a frozen lasagna as a family recipe. Inspiration strikes, and Grace writes an article on being "Married in a Minute to a Moron". It goes viral and earns Grace a multi-book deal. On the series finale, a chastened Chris proposes and Grace turns him down. But there's one more chapter left...

Mutual apologies end in an intimate make-up moment. On the reunion show, the other three couples announce their intent to divorce, but Chris and Grace are set for a happily ever after!

Jacobs has created well-rounded, funny characters (and parrots) that I'd love to know in real life. Highly recommended!

Graces Happy Everafter? Grace is the photographer of the local business all female friends running “Weddings In The City” that do outstanding jobs of making brides dreams come true for their perfect weddings or so these “bridezilla’s” seem to think they are perfect idea’s. Anyway Grace’s partners believe its been too long since Grace has been out on a date so they set her up on a blind date and Christopher Winchester AKA drop dead gorgeous Adonis of a man and a Billionaire to boot but...he shows up late! He PRETENDS he’s broke! He forgot his wallet! And has the nerve to order an expensive drink and an Uber home for Grace to pay for!! He has a serious issue with believing ALL women are Gold Diggers and only out for his money. They part ways on not the best of terms! Grace’s wedding planning firm organizes four couples to marry sight unseen, they meet at the alter. Yes of course, Grace and Chris are matched up as a couple and they are married. They believe it is not a real marriage. But something goes awry and the paperwork gets filed and bam! Married for real. Chris discovers he’s set to inherit several billion dollars but, he has to be married according to his grandfather if he’s married he must be happy. There is a deadline or it will either go to his cheating deceiving father or to charity. Grab ahold and hang on tight you are in for quite the roller coaster ride...lots of emotions up and down this roller coaster. Story is laced with suspicion, deceit, lies, trust issues, misjudgment, lack of self confidence, overpowering overbearing parents. Lots of friends and family sticking their noses into the relationship. Will Chris be able to overcome his paranoia about all women being Gold Diggers? Can Grace forgive the things Chris accuses her of? Will they be able to turn this fake/real marriage into true love? This is a fantastic series. You will laugh, cry, get angry, you will forgive plus you will have so many emotions as well. The author does an amazing job of bringing the characters to life and plopping you right into their lives. I recommend these books. You won’t be disappointed. Grace is a workaholic photographer who together with a group of friends runs a wedding planning business in New York City. She hasn’t dated in a while so she uses a dating app and when the guy, Chris, arrives late, poorly dressed, and claims to have left his wallet at home, Grace ends up paying. Later that night at his apartment Chris reveals he is actually a billionaire testing her to make sure she wasn’t just after his money and she storms out, mad at him. Days later circumstances leave them unknowingly matched on the reality show Marriage in a Minute. Their marriage was supposed to be fake but they end up actually married after an hilarious ceremony. They plan to get an annulment or divorce when the show is over. Chris’s dad is constantly telling him that Grace is just after his money like Chris’s mom did to him. Grace lives with her eccentric grandmother and her pet parrot but they are forced to stay with Chris in his penthouse after a fire forces them out of their tenement. Will Chris and Grace living together lead to a more permanent relationship or will other people’s interference and misunderstandings tear them apart?

I loved this fun story where enemies end up accidentally married on a reality tv show. The author did a great job letting you get to know what the characters were thinking and why they acted as they did. There were many hilarious scenes in the book, especially involving Grace’s grandmother. The laugh out loud moments were fun and seeing Grace and Chris’s relationship develop add for a very interesting story. There were several twists and turns to the story but the epilogue provided the perfect ending.

I never get tired of Alina’s books and this one was just as good as the rest. I love Grace, she is hard working, independent, professional to a fault, and most times not a push over. The start of this book is hilarious, how Grace and Chris met was so funny and I loved how Grace acted before and after Chris revealed himself. Chris at first was your typical rich, cocky, playboy but once we got to know him more there were many layers to him. He was a man that had been burned before, a man that was constantly reminded that he was a mistake, a burden to his parents when born, a man that did not value himself no matter how he acted on the outside. The two of them at first could not stand each other and then they had to be on the show together, it was so funny and then a big mistake was uncovered that changed everything. I enjoyed all of the antics of her grandmother, the parrot was hilarious, Chris and Grace fell into this nice friendship and then more, the sex scenes were hot. I loved reading about all of my favorite characters from the other books. Of course you had spiteful jealous women to deal with, Chris’s horrible parents, and Chris’s paranoia over every woman being out to get his money, all of these things ended up hurting their relationship. There were major misunderstandings and I really didn’t know what was going to happen, Grace surprised me. Time and space revealed hidden truths that led to the best happy ever after. Now I get to read the short novella about Chris and Grace called Marriage in a Second.

OMG the grandma is life in this story. When Netflix creates a movie based off this book whoever lands the role of the gran is for sure going to win so many awards.

First I just want to say that I love the openness and support that the Wedding in the City girls have. Their friendship is admirable. Honestly I'm a bit jealous that I don't have friends to review dick pics with.

Personally I was not a fan of Chris. At no point during this entire story beginning to end did he ever win me over. He seriously NEEDS therapy. I also want to know how he became a billionaire yet has so few connections in his community.

Also as I mentioned in a previous there are certain villainous characters who are just outright rude af and NO ONE says anything. I don't get it.

Grace is pretty chill. There was nothing about her that screamed special to me. But she was likable and relatable. She is hardworking, honest, and honestly TOO GOOD for Chris. However since she does seem to have her shit together mentally, emotionally, and physically I can see her being a good support system to him. She is very patient and handles meltdowns really well which are qualities needed to be with a man like him.

Lastly I hate birds. Zeus was comical and all but just ewww. Can't they have a pet monkey instead??

Chris Winchester is a billionaire with serious trust issues, particularly with the idea of women being gold-diggers only wanting his money. Grace is a photographer trying to make a living catering to the crazy world of high-end weddings as she works for Weddings in the City. Chris has quite a dysfunctional family with his parents being generally interfering, manipulative, and shameless.

When a Svensson brother has a major faux paus regarding a reality show, Chris and Grace end up literally – and legally – married instead of the “fake” it was supposed to be. That sets off the families and the “happy couple” as they live out their worst nightmares and everyone scrambles trying to “fix” it. In case things calm down a little, Gran and her parrot are right there putting the reader in a paroxysm of laughter watching the madness and mayhem.

The story line is well-written and designed to keep the reader laughing pretty much continuously, because if the current scene is not causing it, thinking back to what you just read certainly will! Grab your copy and tape up your sides (because laughing like that can hurt the ribs). You are in for a real treat here!

Grace is a photographer for a well know high society wedding company! She gets roped into being into a tv show by yes a Svennson brother!
Chris is a billionaire who thinks everyone is after his money. He is arrogant, handsome and extremely paranoid. He meets Grace on a blind date where he tricks her into thinking he’s poor. When he informs her she passed his test she is furious.
When she shows up reluctantly to the show and is paired with Chris the really hilarious drama starts!
This book was hilarious! A great beach read! Add in Graces grandma who loves naked yoga and making candles that smell like her vagina the book is hilarious! The tension between these two is palpable so is the attraction! Add in that the fake marriage turns out to be real and Chris needs it to stay that way to inherit billions from his grandfather the games begin. His mom is a lush and a mooch. His dad thinks everyone is trying to steal his money and ruin his life. They r both characters! The dad especially plays the villain perfectly. But in the end there is a HEA.
I recommend this funny, light reading book! This is another great book in the series! Which I also love! Best book so far!

Grace is a photographer. Grace is also a workaholic. Grace works together with a group of friends running a wedding planning business. Grace ended up using a dating app. Then Grace gets talked into staying for her blind date. Grace has been single for awhile. Chris ends up arriving late. Chris also is dressed poorly for being on a blind date. Chris then claims that he forgot his wallet at home. Then asks Grace to buy him a drink. Grace ends up paying for not only the drink that was way to much but also the Uber ride back to Chris's place. Chris then tells Grace at the apartment that he is really a billionaire. Grace doesn't believe him. Chris is so worried about gold diggers because of what his father is always telling him about his mother. Chris then gets talked into going on a friends tv show and getting faked married but the next day finding out that it wasn't fake he and Grace are really married because his friend Fucked up with the paper work. Engaging, charming, terribly funny story. I have now read several of Alina's books and on the whole, I enjoy them. This one had made me laugh, the most, I think. The story of Grace and Chris is an unusual one, the story itself is hot and steamy with so many tension points that I thought how and what- short of a miracle - will push this book to a resolution with a HEA? I felt that the plot was not only highly unlikely, but some of the characters were also totally over the top, without any semblance of reality and the plot was over-complicated and drawn out. At the same time, other characters were truly remarkable, the gradual easing of tensions between Grace and Chris was described brilliantly and as I mentioned before, the language was incredibly funny. Alina's similes, metaphors, and general expressions had me in stitches. There was a lot of human emotions lined up and the author clearly knows how to describe them and bring them to the forefront of the plot to make the story relatable. I would highly recommend this book to all those who enjoy romantic comedy, they won’t be disappointed.

A Very Funny RomCom Series Continue...
Alina Jacobs is a new author for me and after reading this book she is now on my, “Favorite RomCom Authors List”. Can this author write witty repartee? You betcha she can and does it beautifully for both protagonists, Grace and Chris.
This storyline is a continuation of the series, “Wedding in the City”. A group of women who run a full service wedding planning service to the wealthy. Grace is the photographer. Chris is a self-made billionaire who’s attorneys are the Svenssons Brothers (another series). Grace and Chris meet in the most unusual and funny ways ... twice! The second time end up with them having to remain together for a business deal that will benefit Chris. As you can imagine things go haywire when a nude grandmother, a rude Parrot and dysfunctional parents all merge to “help”. Hmmmmm.
This is one book, well the series, and the other series, oh, none of Ms Jacob’s should be overlooked. I’m definitely recommending this book for your reading enjoyment and satisfaction. PEACE.

Grace set up a date with Chris from a dating app. During this date, Chris was late, dressed weird and made Grace pay for his drinks and Uber. Later, Grace found out he was lying and he was a bilionaire. Then they met again in a reality tv show. they were paired up to have a "fake marriage" which turned out real. Then they went through days as a couple for the tv show and while waiting for the court papers to be filed.

This was a long story, 61 chapters. But all were all interesting and entertaining. Enjoyed some hilarious and scenes that went a different direction that what I would have expected (such as when Chris found out Grace was working for his ex or the ways of Gran or the last episode of the tv show). Mind you there were lots of explicitly steamy scenes (so this is for mature readers only), but their love story was enjoyable to read. It is kind of out of the ordinary. I recommend reading this.

A mistake worth making
Their initial meeting was definitely awkward but the following time was beyond unexpected.
Though convincing these two to get fake married on some reality show seems totally out there, finding out it was accidentally real makes it one of the oddest and sexiest mistake I've read in a while. With family and friends having opinions and unwanted help it becomes a marriage that takes a village to make and break.
Hilariously funny, once again Alina taps into this weird mixture of messy mayhem, hot encounters and totally unfiltered laugh out loud moments ("post-nut clarity" being one of my favourite new terms). Chris is not a Svennson, but so not a problem for me. At all. All good here. Thank you.

Chris and Grace will fake a marriage, or not?
by Happy-Girl

Chris is a billionaire with serious trust issues, and Grace is a photographer trying to survive in the world of high-end weddings.
They met, and he made her pay for his expensive drink and his Uber home... Then they met again and they fake-married but....
I won't spoil the plot; I would only say that I loved this book!!!
The characters are hilarious and credible, as in a world where you could meet billionaires!
They share a hot passion, and in the end, as usual, they realize their true feelings. So don't worry, HEA is guaranteed!
This book is related to some previous ones, and you'll enjoy meeting again Grace's funny and a bit crazy friends.

This book was fun, funny and steamy hot! I couldn't stop giggling at how Chris and Grace met. Or the second time. Honestly I thought Chris was a bit of a jerk (well, maybe more than a bit) but he gets much sweeter as the story continues. Chris and Grace have such a sizzling hot chemistry together, and is it ever steamy enough to melt the words off of your book! And the banter between these two makes me laugh. Add in Grace's grandma and parrot, and her best friends/business partners and their ever ending quest of Chris' "ahem' size, money sucking parents, a witchy college roommate and a self-absorbed ex, and this book will keep you laughing and gasping!

Explosive marriage
4.5
I really liked this quite funny romance between Grace and Chris who hate each other and get entangled in a fake marriage set in the a reality TV show they were supposed to help someone out or make a lost bet.
Grace is looking for a man with qualities that she cannot find, but Chris is not looking for anyone so much the story of his father with his mother attracted by money, disgusted him with any relationship, not to mention his relationship to the money which is quite complex.
The story is funny hot, reignited by their visceral fear of losing their business to someone else in a divorce, and punctuated by the jealousies that surround them.

MARRIAGE IN A MINUTE is a reality show marriage at first sight between billionaire hedge fund manager Chris and wedding photographer Grace. They agree to only stay married for the duration of the show. Chris is paranoid (thanks to dear old dad) that Grace wants to trick him into getting his money.

I enjoyed the book. The relationship between Chris and Grace was built slowly and Chris had enough ego and confidence in that department for both of them. The story overall was entertaining and funny. I thought Gran was a little over-the-top, however. The reality show premise was done well especially how it showed the contrast in progression in all of the relationships. I absolutely loved the ending!
