I don't like writing negative reviews but this book could have benefited from a good editor and a good story line. If Kindle gave refunds as Audible does this one would have gone back. The grammar was awful, he doesn't recognise incorrect tenses. I'm guessing that he looks up the synonyms and picks one not quite understanding subtle change in meaning.
He neither understands the Scottish church nor education system: suggesting that a small child waiting for his mother has different teachers of maths and English. The research into police procedures was poor if done at all. They wouldn't lift evidence from a crime scene bag it and carry it around in their pocket before SOCO got there.
Finally, introducing a new character in the last 10% who was the guilty party doesn't build up any tension. It's not a "Who dun it" if the character can't be traced.
It's a reminder to me to look to see if it has been self-published. Good editors are worth their weight in gold.
There are so many excellent Scottish authors, some better at story line while others are excellent at build characters and banter, James Oswald, JD Kirk, Denzil Meyrick, Marsali Taylor, Lin Anderson, TF Muir, Peter May to name but a few. Certainly enough to keep me going.
