Here's what parents shared after reading and applying "The Helping Babies Sleep Method":
"This method has absolutely given me my confidence back. We went from having a chronically overtired baby and battling at every nap and bedtime to having an independent sleeper who sleeps 11-12 hours each night at 5 months old....I highly recommend this book." Carrina Taylor - Previously Tired Parent
"My first was a horrible sleeper. I was determined not to do that again. I implemented the Helping Newborns Sleep principles and now have a 9 week old that sleeps 11 hours with 1 feed! " Tracy Moulton Granlund - Second-Time Determined Mom "Teaching my 15 month old to fall asleep without his bottle has been a game changer. He finally sleeps 11+ hours in the night without waking up. I highly recommend Helping Babies Sleep for anyone with a 1 year old struggling with sleep. We're all so much happier. It's never too late to work on sleep!" Jessie - Second Time Mom of a Great Sleeper
I love the principles in this book! It’s not like traditional “cry it out” method at all and also walks you through different options to figure out what’s most comfortable for you and your family. I love the flexibility presented. I started reading this when my 4 month old hit her regression. After a few days, there was a HUGE difference and my daughter was going down for every nap and bed on schedule, in her crib wide awake, and fussed less than 5 min. After about 10 days, she now doesn’t even usually fuss when we put her down (wide awake). She immediately starts soothing to sleep. Her getting quality sleep was a game changer in our house. Some of the negative reviews on this book complain about letting the baby cry, but even in the height of sleep training, she was crying way less at sleep windows than she previously was during wake windows. She’s been in SUCH a better mood in her wake windows that she hardly fusses. It was a little challenging the first day or 2, but 100% worth it for her. She sleeps so so so much better than she was when we were sporadically contact napping and rocking her to sleep.
I’ll be honest, I wanted this book to revolutionize my life but found it to be fairly meh for two specific reasons.
1) While the writing is clear and concise, I did not encounter much new information. The method recommended in the book is essentially a revised Ferber method, and while the Q&A section was interesting, the book as a whole just was not for me. I could see this being a useful resource for someone with no knowledge of the topic, but I just didn’t find as much value here as I was looking for.
2) The TYPOS. Oh my gracious, so many typos in this book. Spelling, grammar, word choice, you name it. The number of typos drove me to sheer distraction.
TL/DR: I would recommend this book if you’re somebody who knows nothing about sleep science, but it wasn’t for me (particularly given the distracting number of typos).
As a professional who is highly involved in support groups, and education for families. When talking to parents I am constantly asked about infant sleep. So many parents struggle with this topic and lack confidence in their little ones routine. With this being said, I am always looking for new books to recommend to parents. It is beautifully written, relatable, and has a realistic approach that can be applied regardless of feeding choice. Sarah has done a wonderful job addressing difficulties of sleep and countering these difficulties with a reason for the struggle and a plan of action. If you lack confidence in your routine, this book is for you.
Sarah did a great job laying out reasons why your baby is not sleeping well and offering advice on what area of your routine you should change. Her advice is backed by evidence and science as she has thoroughly studied sleep. She has done a great job at presenting an approach to help all parents regardless of how many children or the level of education you may have. Sleep is something everyone struggles with and I highly recommend this book.
There are some differences, but largely similar to the OG Faber method although this claims it is the most gentle. Much longer than it should be, as is tradition with this kind, but some good takeaways - For me it was - top up feed (mine needs the bottle to sleep) and regular schedule; didn't try anything else. Read the summary, try it out and see if it works for your child.
Great starting point and info to help sleep Train.
This is the second book Ive read on sleep training and whilst similar this how takes a more flexible approach which I can see how it would be more beneficial and also gives options on possible ways to help manage the training.
Fab book to read if you are not sure you want to sleep train or not! It worked within a week for my son when he was 9 months old and about the same for my 5 month old! Gentle and positive for parents!
Some helpful information about baby sleep cycles that gave me a better understanding of what my babe was going through, but this method didn’t entirely work for us.
It has some really helpful bits for newborns that seem obvious now but I absolutely wasn't thinking of in those first few weeks, like how to comfort them in their crib so they fall asleep there. Generally the most helpful part was in figuring out timing and knowing a little more of what to expect. I think the approach is gentle enough while still being effective. I didn't agree with their approach to breastfeeding. It suggests being down to 5 feedings at 4 months, while everything else I've read says that feeding less than 7 times a day can threaten your supply. So like basically all baby books, take what works for you, leave what doesn't, and hopefully you find something helpful.
