Full of half-truhts; redundant; only little valuable information
In the book you can find many mistakes and half-truths, because I don't want be too long, let's look at thee examples :
- "If we were drinking purely for taste we could quite easily substitute our drink with a nonalcoholic version." Alcohol-free beer / alcohilic beer - someone drinks it only because of alcohol amount, not the taste. Alcohol-free beer should be the same taste, only without alcohol.
- "Beverages containing alcohol are drunk cold because people want do suppress taste/smell of ethanol, so it's the best to drink it as cold as possible." Wine connoisseurs around the world know, that to savor a particular wine, you have to drink it at proper temperature - for example white wine in general 9-12 °C - 7 °C or 14 °C wouldn't taste the best.
- "What burns is poisonous, harming". Garlic, horseradish, pepper, ginger ... are objectively considered as healthy. And disinfection usually also burns, but helps.
There are surely some truths - for example, that alcohol addiction is not healthy, from both physical and psychical side. But to know that you don't need to buy this book. It was waste of my money purchasing it. Sorry, Mr. Porter. Nice try.
You don’t have to have a dramatic “rock bottom” moment to question your relationship with alcohol. Many of us Type A, neurotic personalities subscribe to the belief that alcohol is beneficial for relaxation. This book debunks that myth by explaining how alcohol truly impacts the body. Once you learn exactly how your body processes alcohol, you can make an educated decision about whether it truly is worth it. I read this book after exposure to Annie Grace’s sober curious movement, and I successfully reversed the cultural brainwashing about alcohol that had consumed too many years of my life. It was truly life changing.
Overall the message is pretty good but I did have some issues with it. I do not think there was an editor looking over the content because 1) this book says ‘however’ more than any other book ever written. I kid you not. I was sick of seeing it. 2) he said there was no alcohol in Disneyworld. Like what? People go there specifically to drink around the little world pavilions. 3) he said that if you receive advice from anyone that wasn’t mentioned in the book to ignore it. Huh? None of what he said was fact checked but you’re supposed to only believe him? I don’t know. It was ok.
Took me so long to read because it’s dense and just wasn’t relatable for me. I swear I’m not trying to defend my drinking I just couldn’t relate to the anxiety, nervous system, regulation, appetite, etc science that the book goes into. Disrupting sleep I fully do agree with and that’s enough to keep my drinking in check personally
Who knew? So many things are explained and make perfect sense to me now! A must read for anybody. It answers a lot of questions. I'd give it 20 stars if I could!
