This is a story with a great premise and a questionable level of execution. Your enjoyment will depend on your expectations.

If you expect this to be a crunchy strategy gamelit story: you might be disappointed. While it does a great job of feeling inspired by a mishmash of RTS and 4x games, there's not a whole lot of emphasis on the strategy aspect. Maybe this will change in upcoming volumes, but I kind of doubt it since the writing seems targeted at 10-14-year-old demographics. I have a hard time imagining the story will suddenly start exploring tech trees in detail when it already has a problem of telling, then retelling, and then repeating nearly every piece of basic info. This novel is listed at 230 pages on Amazon, but it felt like 50 pages of actual story surrounded by a bunch of fluff.

If you expect this to be like Overlord: you might be half-right. At heart, they are both isekai stories where a person wakes up as a character in one of their favorite games who happens to be a commander of an evil faction. That's where the similarities end. In Overlord, Ains becomes his avatar at an end-game state of power with a fully stocked fortress and army. In this story, Takuto starts with a single Hero unit at his side and the ability to create some basic items with mana. Ains is a normal person who plays the Evil Ruler role well and has a commanding presence and the ability to fight. Takuto is honestly a cringy shut-in type teenager who has too much anxiety to speak aloud to anyone other than his Hero unit.

If you are ok with a very bloated and generic light novel that might go somewhere interesting over a handful of volumes: you might enjoy this. Volume one starts off with an interesting premise. There are red flags everywhere for me with how lame the MC is and how cringe the character interactions are. This story reminds me of a few other Light Novels, but the comparison doesn't do it any favors. One thing this story has is the potential to go places others don't. The author seems willing to do certain things that other authors would shy away from, such as genuinely killing characters.

Realistically, I expect each volume to be a 3/10 about 90% of the time and an 8/10 for maybe 10% of the time. It's painful because the good parts are enjoyable and show you what the story is capable of, but the author fails to maintain that standard for any length of time. This is a series that I have low expectations for, but I will likely pick up the 2nd volume just to satisfy my curiosity and give it a chance to keep stringing me along.

Interesting premise but I binge read so I don't remember much but it was interesting with how 4x concepts will apply yet I don't believe they go in deep.
It could as well be just about both mc being immortal and years passing as they do research or develop technologies. But yes, the research mechanic plays a great part in the background.

If civilization (the game), has a few Starcraft Zerg spawns, and they're led by the Lich King Arthas from Warcraft. That is a good definition of the tonality that one might expect when reading the story.

I found a lot of parallels between Mynoghra and Overlord, in terms of the socially inept protagonist, surrounded by a bevy of overtly loyal, overpowered subordinates. As well as the occasional flashes of darkness that they display.

To us, who are privy to the thoughts of our characters, they're just a ragtag group trying to survive and thrive. But to those who are unfortunate enough to end up on the opposite side as them, you'd imagine they represent the Cthulhu cultists, with their patron God in tow.

Amidst all the city building, fighting and planning, there is a subtle thread of something dark and sinister, a shadow which sents a chill down your spine, something indifferent, uncaring and wholly unconcerned with morality, but fortunately functions via its own code of ethos.

What is this crawling darkness, rearing its unfathomable mane in the coming future? Is one of the mysteries to be unraveled in the coming volumes.

It is wrote like it is a YA or younger novel. Extremely simplistic writing with a one dimensional supporting character who's every acfion can be fortold via cliches. The plot revolves around the MC literally brainwashing every single other character to believe he is supreme and always right, and obviously the endless praise and surprise at how perfect the MC is is annoying.

Takuto Ira is a teenager, stuck in the hospital his whole life, who spend his time playing a fantasy strategy king. When he finally dies, he ends up in a new world together with his favourite hero from said game: Atou, champion of the evil empire Mynoghra. Atou is well aware of Takuto's background and together they decide to start a new game. First things first, explore the world and find a place to set up a new base.

The story has some intrigue world building with characters raising questions I as a reader asks myself as well. I really like the system messages and Wikipedia-like screens at the end of each chapter either detailing the mechanics of a specific game element. These mechanical elements are in the background, invisible to the people of the world, mostly just in the mind of the MC and they are not intrusive. It does raises some interesting questions on what is going on, questions asked by the MC as well. Mynoghra is evil, but as of yet it is not too dominant and even the characters admit they are not acting too evil, which at times feel a bit odd with the hard coded alignment system.

There is a spark missing for me though, not sure whether there is not enough kingdom building, too much talking or the cringe moments when Takuto falls in a depression over the littlest of things even though his social anxieties make sense. It just a bit too over the top for me. While not a surprise, I am also not a very big fan of villainous protagonists, and while at the moment it is all tame (mostly: evil because the world says I am evil), it is something that makes me a bit weary.

All in all, it was a decent read, but not as enjoyable to me as other books.

I like this novel a lot it is a usual isekai especially with that very long title but it works differently than The Rising of the Shield Hero and Konosuba. The MC is working towards building a kingdom with a love interest he obviously doesn't realize loves him while also bettering the world through some chaotic evil/good. It will remind you of Overlord in some ways but with a different way of going about it. The characters are well written and most don't have character growth but the ones that do are some of my favorite characters. Defintely pick up the manga as well because the artstyle and adherence to the original storyline is amazing. Read both if you have the time or you can read either or if you just want one version.

It was fun, but I found some of the writing to be inconsistent. When the book starts the secondary protagonist says that if she were to get into a fight at that moment she would struggle just to beat random animals, but later in the book can kill a small army by herself. Just really inconsistent. Another thing is they are an evil faction, but sometimes come off as incredibly altruistic, and then sometimes as totally without goodness. I hope that gets fixed in a later book.
I did enjoy the characters but being an other world novel it suffers from some of the trappings and it's hard for me to stay immersed.
All in all I enjoyed the book, and plan on reading the second, but I seriously hope some of my dislikes get ironed out.

Interesting idea. Game player dies and comes back as a really evil presence in another world. The rules of his favored online world seem to mostly apply.

If you play online games a lot, you might find it interesting. The opening moves on most online games tend to be boring and involve lots of strategizing. This book is like those opening moves. The rest of the series might get better, but this book is not going to be the most interesting for non-online game players. The online game the main character describes doesn't exist in the real world, so it is arguable even more boring because of that.

The character that we meet aren't all that interesting.

Was getting so bored too quickly =( maybe I'm not the right demographic as it felt maybe a 12 year old might enjoy this.
Overall I felt it was a bit too much of an info dump too. I really would have enjoyed a more natural fleshing out of the world instead of this lazy approach.
The dialog is also very cringe, maybe something a child might like with all the praise and worship.
Anyways I'm abandoning early, I clearly made a mistake.

I went into this blind not quite knowing what to expect and I was really blown away by the characterization.

Some of the disposition is lengthy and meandering, but the author does a great job creating characters that feel real.

The narrative doesn’t quite go the way you think it will either with unexpected events popping up and there are times the reader is left questioning what is real and what isn’t.

Overall, I really enjoyed this one and look forward to the other volumes.

Not original but fun to read.

Not a very original story, but still was fun to read. The story is quite tedious in some parts and the characters are well described. A couple of plots to be developed in future volumes are introduce, hopefully new characters will be introduced and the story will get more exciting.

not quite the typical isekai story

Have watched the anime and read the manga before reading the novel - more details and insights into the characters thoughts in the novel. Hard to summarize without spoilers but is slightly slower moving as compared to the anime/manga - world building before the real problems come up in the next few volumes.

Another Reincarnation story with the main character got a powerful hero at the beginning. The game he always playing when bedridden in the hospital became alive. This is a story of nation building and Warring States.

Great

Love it. I can wait to read the next volume. I like the pace its going. They are truly special bond between the King and Atou. It doesn't seem like they are rushing things. The are carefully planning their own way of getting along with this new wolrd.

Badly written, with little description, the first book is maybe a quarter of the first season of the anime. If you're interested in this, you're much MUCH better off watching that as it will save you a huge amount of time and give you a much better experience.

Great light novel. It has excellent and slow-paced world-building and budding characters.
If you enjoy dark fantasy with world-building plot this is something you will enjoy.

Feels like an Overlord wannabe. This first volume contains too much setting up (of the world). Anime-wise, this volume will be two episodes at most.

The theme of this story is "giving a second chance" to a person that was terminally ill and died from his illness. Author creates a straight jacket to this new light novel series: 1) Main character Takuto (sounds like little Taco) is socially inept, cannot communicate with strangers and at the same time is the King of his kingdom (without any subordinates, infrastructure, wealth, soldiers, etc. ) His only company is Atou, an elf that is arrogant, possessive, jealous and under-powered. 2) Author makes main character an antagonist without any skills or abilities, knowledge or capacity. 3) From this impossible scenario author and main characters are supposed to create a strong and unbeatable territory.
There is no action and plot lines are flat. Rather than over powering the potential enemies, there are no enemies yet, no adventures or action. First volume is feeding some 500 migrant Dark Elves. Takuto and Atou have no farming knowledge, construction knowledge, governance knowledge no martial arts training or capacity, and yet, like pulling a rabbit out of a hat, Author intends this plot-less, action-less, compass-less light novel series to somehow, miraculously to succeed?
Author really did not think this story out well. To be able to succeed, author needs to use common sense, and the conditions and environment for growth and development. Using magic to create food, not having any abilities or skills to survive or thrive, make this a weak story, so I do not recommend it.
There are a lot of contradictions in this Fantasy-isekai-novel series: The main character and Atou his only retinue want to create an "evil empire" just because that was the "theme or objective" of a game that main character Takuto played online (fake game in real life, now Takuto is living another life in an alternate reality world). So this evil main character wants to have decent living and working conditions for his Dark Elves. Which makes me think that maybe main character is sociopathic/psychopathic, while "evil" is a must (because of the video game), he wants to do good to his people...Either author accepts "full evil" as theme of light novel series, or creates contradiction of being completely evil but a nice guy to everybody that knows him, persona... Reminds me of the contradictions found in Overlord Web/Light novel series. Feels like author is "coming up with the story as he goes along" and has not really thought out the actions and consequences. There is no Golden Rule, no Rule of Equivalent Exchange and no balance in this Light Novel/Manga series. Is it supposed to be "irony or sarcasm"?? Maybe a dark comedy, not well executed??
The quality of the illustrations, the character summaries and ability/skill summaries are better than the story written by the author.

All those lured here by the promise that this is similar to Overlord have been misled.

Sure, there are some superficial similarities between the series, such as:
- both isekai’d MCs are highly skilled gamers with NPCs that remember them as players;
- the main female supporting characters are obsessed with their respective MCs;
- Takuto is technically the leader of an evil organisation like Ainz; and
- their loyal subjects glaze them for merely existing.

But this series is far slower-paced in its empire management than Overlord, with a preference for 4X strategy-esque kingdom-building over internal politics and military expansionism.

The primary reason for this difference is that Takuto is not ruthless like Ainz and waits to get pushed before firing shots. His evil status is a facade determined by a DnD-style alignment system in-game. Hence, aura and empire aesthetics alone dictate the perception of his morality rather than actions or personality traits.

Another problem is the complete lack of detail on matters concerning economy and city planning. Resources and goods from Earth can be summoned by Takuto for unstated amounts of mana arbitrarily generated off-screen and infrastructure development occurs without exploring the various technologies available to Mynoghra with any depth.

The pace is slow overall yet quite jarring when it picks up, often due to a lack of build-up before conflicts and swift resolutions after climaxes. The poor transitions between plot events result in a lack of tension and emotional investment, undermining the most important moments in the series. The way antagonists are introduced and then quickly defeated, is a symptom of this, making it feel formulaic and unsatisfying.

There is way too much telling instead of showing. Why constantly glaze Takuto's supposed intelligence and wisdom when you could display actual feats? Basic reasoning and planning skills are not COTE-level mind games. Overlord handled this better since Ainz produces results that, on the surface, actually appear to be high IQ ploys.

Even for a slower-paced story focusing on empire management, it is filled with bloat and still feels juvenile and simplistic at the best of times.

While I feel that it follows some of the common tropes, I find it refreshing that the other worldly powers is based off of 4x ganes
