Brief summary: The heroine, Marie, takes a college course on the psychology of deviant behavior. The professor, Nathaniel Dameron, asks her to stay after class on her first day. Get your mind out of the gutter. Nothing sexual happened. They simply discussed her assignment. Sadly. Luckily, the second time the two deviants were in a room together, the situation wasn’t so innocent. She may or may not have gotten placed over his knee. She’s always been interested in BDSM, but never found anyone to do it with. Until him. He’s a professional who has never messed around with a student before, but there’s something about Marie he simply can’t resist. Originally, they only use each other for sexual release, but the more time they spend together, the more their feelings get involved. They must keep their relationship a secret because he could lose his job if anyone ever found out. Will his job be their downfall or will they find a way to be together despite the obstacles in their way?

Triggers: degradation during sex, pain play, knife play

Dislikes:

It’s written in third person. I prefer first person because I get to be in the character’s heads and that makes it easier for me to get invested in the characters and their stories. Also, it grates on my nerves a little bit when I have to keep reading “Marie this… Marie that… Marie, Marie, Marie” or “Nathaniel did… Nathaniel thought… Nathaniel, Nathaniel, Nathaniel.” This is the main reason for my less than stellar rating. It’s just a personal preference, that’s all.

The MCs never didn’t delve into Marie’s family issues much. At first, it was fine that they had sex and didn’t divulge anything personal to each other. Didn’t bother me even a little bit. But after their feelings started developing and their trust in each other increased, I was expecting them to have a deep and meaningful conversation about how her parents’ expectations make her feel suffocated because it would’ve made their connection deeper. One of my favorite moments in a romance novel is when the MCs talk about their problems and reassure each other, so it sucked that we didn’t really get that here. They did talk about her family a tiny bit, but the conversation was brief and unsatisfying.

Likes:

Nathaniel.
”A cruel sadist disguised as a gentleman professor.”

This man is hot, commanding, intelligent, kinky, ambitious, self-assured, good with children and secretly really caring. It wasn’t hard to fall in love with his character instantly because he’s basically everything I’ve ever wanted in a man.

He was a good dom. He gave Marie a safeword to use if she ever felt like things were moving too fast or if she were ever uncomfortable during a scene. He repeatedly mentioned it to her to remind her she could use it whenever she pleased. On the rare occasion that she did use it, he always respected it and gave her the space she needed. He was never upset when she safeworded and he made sure she knew that to avoid her feeling guilty over it. He also provided adequate aftercare. He would draw her baths, cuddle with her and wash the smudged makeup off her face like a true gentleman.

The steamy scenes were kinky and intense, just the way I like them. My favorite scenes were probably the punishments. Something about that man wielding his cane just hit me in all the right places.
Nathaniel let the cane strike against an already lashed area - practically doubling the pain administered by aggravating an already existing wound. Marie writhed and screamed, while Nathaniel's breathing became more throaty and graveled. "Scream louder, Marie. I want the whole fucking city to hear you."

The relationship between Nathaniel and Marie. After the sacrifice Nathaniel made to be with her, it’s clear he loves her and she loves him back. Sometimes people say love isn’t enough, so I listed some other reasons why they belong together. They’re compatible in every way. They’re the perfect match sexually and can connect on an intellectual level. They’re exactly what the other needs. She gives him a sense of fulfillment he never had before and he dominates her the way she always dreamed of. His domination made her more confident and self-aware. Also, I really appreciated how they never lied to each other or kept unnecessary secrets to make unnecessary drama. They were such a healthy couple. I genuinely can’t think of a single reason why these two shouldn’t be together. They radiate soulmate energy.

Marie was a firm believer that women who enjoy sex shouldn’t be judged or ridiculed for it. It’s really nice to read about a heroine who supports other women rather than putting them down. There was no OW drama, which I loved. There wasn’t a single woman Marie was pitted against or compared to. A lot of the heroines I’ve read about lately have been super overcritical of other women, so this was refreshing.

The grand gesture at the end!! You best believe I screamed. If someone did that for me, I would probably faint and after waking up, would marry them on the spot. It was a great way to conclude their love story and left me very satisfied :)

This is literally one of the best books I have ever read in my whole life and trust me, the list in very very long. The writing is great and you can clearly see just how sophisticated the author is. The plot is amazing and the characters are just so interesting. I actually felt like what I was reading was real. You know when you finish a book and it was just so good, it takes you a couple of days to start another one? Yeah, this is it. I am literally in love. Also I can’t wait to forget the book a little so I can reread it. Lowkey obsessed. Also the author is a sweetheart and loves to interact with the readers. GO TO WATTPAD AND READ DEVIANCE AND YOU WILL NEVER REGRET IT.

I loved how the author really brought the characters. That aside I loved the way Marie's attraction wasn't only physical it was the one that crossed borders, the one that made her stay even after knowing Nathaniel's most darkest deviant sexual side.
As for Nathaniel, I loved the way his attraction to Marie was described, how he helped her navigate through her sex life too and how the gave up his goal Marie. The smut was on point. The feelings were perfectly described and Mwah😘

I LOVED IT! the writing was amazing and i had so much fun with all the characters in this book. i didn't think a teacher-student relationship would be my cup of tea but it was really interesting.

my inner hoe: oh please, we both know you were only there for smut.
okay but seriously, the smut was top tier. like some of the things were a hard limit for me (caning) yea no, absolutely not. but im not shaming anyone who likes it. im a freak too and i love books with bdsm relationships. i really loved how author explained things on her accord and the main thing i greatly agreed on is that, any relationship, no matter what kind, works on trust and trust is the most intimate thing even more than love.

ps: pls pls pls i need a book for Theo!!!! 😩

SMUT SMUT SMUT SMUT SMUT! All you smut & BDSM lovers will have a jolly ride through this book.
I’ve never been interested in smutty books, but this one blew my mind away. I learnt so much about the BDSM community through this book. It wasn’t all about the big bang and had a lot of important information about the community and how it’s people think. I’ve always looked at people practising BDSM in a bad light, but this book made me open my heart to them. It’s their life and their desires. We have no judgement over it.
AND AND AND, I’m completely against teacher-student romances. So this book was another eye opener to me. I think it has taught me to let people live the way they want to and not judge anyone for what they feel. IT IS THEIR LIFE!

this book has been different than anything I've read before, I have never liked the teacher student romance but I was able to enjoy it here. I live the maturity of this book and the informal dynamic. I rlly love Marie and Nathanial and really do believe they are endgame. They have overcome alot in this book and they both made sacrifices for eachother and I rlly loved that. I understand that this is a standalone but I cannot wait and rlly do hope that there is a book on Theo. Love them and will definitely miss em. Goodbye deviance<3

lets just say that this book ruined all other professor student books for me
the way marie’s character was written showing her as a strong woman without making her cringe was legit the best thing (well second best after all the smut) and nathaniel owns all my heart
and now that the book is being rewritten i hope we’ll get to know more about main characters past as well as what happened to marie’s two friends

I wasn't a fan of the third person point of view. I felt like I would've liked it better if it was dual pov instead. It took me forever to read and was kinda boring. I wish Theodore was involved it it more. I also wish that Marie's past would've been talked about more. But overall it wasn't that bad of a read!
