A quick word of warning. The true crime short stories within this three book collection are unimaginably gruesome.
I start all of my True Crime books with a quick word of warning. Most news articles and television true crime shows skim over the vile details of truly horrible crimes. In my books I don’t gloss over the facts, regardless of how disgusting they may be. I try to give my readers a clear and accurate description on just how demented the killers really were. I do my best not to leave anything out. The stories included in these books are not for the squeamish.
What you are about to read are my first three books. The stories in this collection will make you realize just how fragile the human mind can be.
A sampling of the stories include:
The Canal Killer - A violent psychopath cuts off the head, hands, and feet of his girlfriends and dumps them in the canals of London and Rotterdam.
The Head in the Bucket - A drug kingpin chops off the head of one of his dealers and carries it around in a Home Depot bucket.
Captain Cash - Another drug dealer butchers an entire family so he can take over a man’s fruit shipping business and transform it into a drug shipping business.
The Coffee Killer - A young woman, jealous of her rich socialite friend, poisons her by lacing her coffee with cyanide in a public coffee shop.
The Arizona Torso Killer - A petite trophy-wife shoots her husband, freezes his body, hacks him up with a jigsaw and dumps his torso in a dumpster behind a grocery store.
The Oxford Murder - A young college student strangles his girlfriend and crams her body into an eight-inch crawlspace beneath the stairs.
The Girl in the Barrel - A homeowner finds a fifty-five gallon barrel in the crawl space beneath his home. What they find inside the barrel unlocks a murder mystery dating back thirty years.
The Dexter Wannabe - A young man obsessed with the TV show Dexter lures unsuspecting victims to his "kill room" and keeps a detailed diary of the dismemberment of his prey.
The Murder of Elizabeth Olten - A fifteen-year-old girl wants to know what it feels like to kill a person.
Interpol's Most Wanted - When fishermen pull up the dead body of a man in the English Channel, police stumble upon one of Interpol's Most Wanted criminals.
The Girl in the Box - An unbelievable story of a psychopath who kidnaps a young girl and keeps her as a slave locked beneath his bed for seven years.
The Green Chain Rapist - A beautiful young mother is butchered in broad daylight in a London park and the only witness is her two-year-old son. Police then waste three years chasing the wrong man while the real killer slaughters another woman.
Paige’s Secret Life - A young single-mother of three goes missing and police realize she's been living a secret life that her friends and family didn't know about.
A Walking Shadow - A suicidal teenager, frustrated with the bank threatening to foreclose on the family home, kidnaps the bank manager's ten-year-old son and holds him for ransom.
Jason Neal is a Best-Selling American True Crime Author living in Hawaii with his wife, who is also an author writing Women's Fiction as G.T. London. Jason started his writing career in 1989 as a music industry publisher and wrote his first true crime collection in 2019.
As a boy growing up in the 80s just south of Seattle, Jason became fascinated with true crime stories after hearing the news of the Green River Killer so close to his home. Over the coming years, he would read everything he could get his hands on about true crime and serial killers.
As he approached 50, Jason began to assemble stories of the crimes that have fascinated him most throughout his life. He’s especially fascinated by cases solved by sheer luck, amazing police work, and groundbreaking technology like early DNA cases and, more recently, reverse genealogy.
Many of the cases in this triple volume were new to me, and even the familiar ones had new information in them. The writing was good, not great; the punctuation was eccentric and the book needed a good text editing. As promised, most of the cases were very gruesome indeed.
Very interesting book. Well written, and the author keeps the reader's attention without bogging the reader down with unneeded information. I really enjoy his style of writing, and I think you will also.
**TW/CW** As this book gives a compilation of very gruesome and graphic true crime stories, please be well advised before you dig into this book.
I liked the way Jason Neal told these gruesome stories. He compiled them nicely - not too long - and only gave the most pertinent information needed for these cases. Some of these cases I have already heard and read about and others were new to me. I also liked that he added an appendix at the end with the longer transcript from one of the cases if people were interested in reading it. Such sick people in the world, I'm so sad for these families and victims, but I'm glad their names haven't been forgotten either.
The books were very intresting and nice partly because there's not unnecessary info to sound fancy for no reason. It's straight to the point and like advertised, is very gruesome. 1 part included the real transcripts of texts between a young girl and a sexual sadist who ended up killing her. Another had the whole transcript of a book a man was writing about his kills. Highly reccommend if you're not squeamish and like true crime.
Author warns you that this book gets graphic. Details of headliner murders from around the world. His detailed writing style has you picture in your mind ,will send chills down your back, will place sorrow for the victims and their families. It was one book I couldn't put down.
Nepal's writing style is crisp yet full of facts. So many true crime authors drag a story out with mundane and useless data. Who cares what color the neighbor's cousin's aunt's panties were? The stories are not as full of courtroom drama as novel length works yet you still get all the data you could possibly want to evaluate the crimes. A novel soon, Mr Neal? Corbin
Love it! The graphic details about the crimes are great, don't really find them anywhere else and the writing is good. If I have one criticism, it is that I did find some spelling errors at times, only some words missing letters so not a big deal.
Thank you for these, love true crime, so interesting.
I really enjoyed these 3 books, I am a lover of true crime books and this was wonderful and was very sad once I realized I was finished reading. Great job!
Kept me thinking the entire TIME. each case was unique and personal which made it very difficult to put down. I'm looking forward to.reading more books.by.Jason Neal
I have recently started an interest in this type of genre - True Crime.
This is a box set of 3 books containing 32 true crime stories. Book 1 has 8 stories while Books 2 & 3 have 12 stories and 2 appendices.
The book is easy to read; however, the style is inconsistent with the various stories. Some have great detail and describes the events - pre and post; however, there are some stories that are vague and can be somewhat misunderstood.
The appendices were not for me as these were transcripts related to a true crime story. These are long. However, I did enjoy the links to more information related to some of these true crimes in which photos and other evidence is provided.
It may be due to the format of describing these stories in 10-15 pgs that some stories do not have the full detail as others. Or it could be that the information was not avaialable at the time of publishing.
The author has improved his writing skills. Book 1 was difficult at times due to sentence structure and although it is an easy read, the point is vague and misleading. However, he has improved in Book 2 and Book 3.
A great series to start for someone who is interested in this genre. Read it - and look for more books, podcasts or vids regarding them.
Thanks to his books, I've developed a deep passion for reading, often finding myself immersed for hours on end (literally 5-6 hours at a time) and am often eagerly anticipating my next reading session lol. I have every single volume, and at the rate I’m going, I’m going to probably finish all of them in a couple months time lol, that’s how much I’m addicted to these books.
Each installment in Collection 1-3 had me on the edge of my seat from start to finish - and I couldn't get enough. I can't wait to dive into another one after writing this review!
Most certainly never a disappointed when you deal Mr. Neal’s books, that’s for sure.
These collections of case histories were interesting and detailed, they definitely did not leave the gore out from each case. This is highly recommended to true crime fanatics but definitely not for people with weak stomachs.
I especially found the SK Confessions a rather eye-opening read, vile and disgusting but definitely helps you think about the mind of the killer. They were his own words, his own premeditated plans.
My only issue is the books are way too small, I wish they were longer as I read them within a day.
A good read of the various true crimes over time. As true as the crimes are, so true it is that there are very disturbed people. Very true it is that failed marriages and societal rejection contributes to this fact. There is help , early in life but unfortunately it is not given the attention it deserves. On the flip-side, people should take care where the go and be aware of whom they meet. A scary read , but real-life lessons. Pray 🙏 for wisdom in our choices we make ….
I enjoyed reading this book. I have a huge interest in true crime stories. I normally have a hard time reading some true crime books as sometimes I feel that too much irrelevant information is given. I really liked how there was multiple short stories that give only the necessary information. Should there be a story that I wanted to dig deeper on then I would just do some side research. I would absolutely recommend this book if you like true crime stories.
Could do with a good proof read. Spelling errors did not take away from the gruesome crimes committed in these books. Not for the faint hearted. Looking forward to reading the next books. A good mixture of killers. Some I had heard of before and some I hadn't.
I like that these books are easy to read. Like a novel almost. Although the stories are awful, I like to try to figure out what makes some people do these things. A lot of background is provided so that helps. I didn’t like the rambling manifestos and transcripts from these killers. Too much. Might b a + for some
Anyone who knows me knows I love anything true crime. I don't know why but it has always fascinated me. My birthday and our anniversary is coming up and this is one of the things my husband got me. I finished it in less than 48 hours. I completely loved this and could not stop reading. A must for any true crime lover.
These stories show the depravity of man from the fall of Adam. These criminals appear to have no conscience because as GOD as said in Romans , HE’s turned them over to their depravity. May they repent from their heinous crimes before they meet their JUDGE at the final Judgement!!
i would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in reading about real crimes. it was such a fascinating read. some of the stories had very graphic content so not for the faint hearted.
I cannot get enough of these true crime books i love them not the crime itself but i just love this kind of book. It is well written and composed just right. I also like the fact you find out what the punishment was for the crime so there is closure.
Just finished this book and already itching for another one, Jason Neal writes about the crime like no other author I've seen - it's factual and to the point while still keeping the same suspense you would reading a mystery
It was not a book I could finish! Not something for the weak of heart as the 2nd book added a section written by one of the serial killers. Explicit violent details were given and it was just too much for me. It's my decision to no longer continue to the 3rd book of the series.
I don't provide reasons for my rating. I like true crime stories. Nobody asks me to recommend books, and I probably wouldn't recommend this book because of its graphic nature. I appreciate that the author provided a lengthy sample of his stories.
This is an excellent collection of more obscure true crime cases. There was only one that I had heard of before! Compared to other true crime books there were lots of gruesome details that were almost too much at times.
