Kasey has always had her visions to guide her, but her gift has gone silent, and it’s going to get her killed.
New York’s criminal syndicates are growing more brazen by the day, a coven of vampires are plaguing the city by night, and a forbidden tome has been stolen, leaving only a disfigured corpse at the scene of the crime.
To make matters worse, someone has put a price on Kasey’s head, and the supernatural world is coming to collect.

Samuel Stokes – Conjuring a Coroner Bk 8 – A Brush With Death – Reviewed 7/31/21 – Read 7/21-22/21
A price on your head makes everything looks like death. Conjuring a Coroner – A Brush With Death
Kasey’s day started early with a call from her friend, Detective Bishop asking her to meet her at Casimir’s Book Shop to give her some insight on a new murder. Kasey remembered that Casimir’s specialized in rare books and he had been known to deal under the table on books of the supernatural. Of course, this was against the regulations but when had that ever stopped him. Arriving she found the team involved in the murder scene with the body lying just past the open doorway. What she could not understand is the condition of the door and security gate. They had been torn off the building and it would have had to been done by someone with superhuman strength.
Kasey had left the Ninth Precinct, after her battle with the Shinigami a short while ago and the outing of the magical world. This resulted in her joining up with the ADI. She was assigned to figure out what was happening in the magical world and why the vampires were in NYC. Just then her phone rang, it was Hades, the leader of the underworld. She decided that she needed to take the call and was shocked at what he had to tell her. Someone had put a Five Million dollar reward on Kasey’s head. He had turned it down and figured that after she had given him the ledger that he should at least warn her.
Join Kasey as her car is blown up, shots are fired at her, her mother tells her a family secret that shakes Kasey to the core, and she’s kidnapped …
What did I like? Thank goodness my favorite little witch is back, there for a while I thought that she might disappear, but Sam has brought her back with so much happening in her life. Not only does she have the price on her head, but her mother tells her the truth about her background, and Kasey is shocked. Her love for her friend and leader Sanders is going nowhere and she is not sure what to do about it either.
What will you like? Crime, Vampires, Love, Shocking past, gunplay, and a ton of supernatural world coming at her to collect the five million dollars. The best part is that Kasey received help from a source that she never thought would ever speak to her again. Surprises galore play in this new addition to the Conjuring a Coroner series. This is just the beginning, and we will hopefully see lots more from Kasey and all of her friends. as I just saw that book 9 is scheduled to release in December. Yay!
Kasey’s gift has abandoned her, but her police friends still call on her for help. Her day starts badly, and ends worse … She’s called to assist at a robbery/murder scene … she soon discovers that vampires are on the loose again, and that they have a drug which enhances someone’s strength exponentially – think The Hulk. The side effect: death, in short order. They stole a tome which uses blood magic, which is forbidden by the magical community. What is the plan for it? She receives a call from Hades, who tells her that the vampire court has issued a $5 million bounty on her head (dead or alive) – it turns out that the vampire she killed in the last book, and whose teeth she wears, was the crown prince. His father is not happy. This is all before breakfast! She’s soon dodging assassins/bounty hunters on a mission to both stay alive and figure out what is going on. There is breakneck action, old friends resurfacing, plot twists, and an unseen cliff hanger. I am liking Kasey even more with each book! I received a free copy of this book, with no obligation.
The action in this book starts off pretty quickly so hold on to your seat when you pick the book up. In this book we learn how Kasey got her power. And in this book she fights for her life at least five times. And in this book she has to outwit the enemy to get away and then to go on the offensive to outsmart and take down the enemy. I was tickled to meet her mother and how she handled one of Kasey’s attackers. The fight scenes in this book are very well written. So much action to describe and Mr. Stokes does a fantastic job of it. I’m greatly looking forward to the next book and highly recommend this series.
Wow. Just when i thought this might be the conclusion of the Kasey Chase series Conjuring a Coroner Samuel drops Book 8 on us 'A Brush with Death'' and the conclusion to follow in book 9 . Book 7 has Kasey and Cal saving Vida from the Night Crew at the end and they think that the Feudal Court may be coming from all over Europe. Now we get a taste of what is instore for Kasey, the ADI and the Ninth Precinct and the vampires are out for revenge. Book 8 is full of fast pace action, snarky remarks with dark ally NYC world building and a cast of characters that really give it to the vampires but will they be able to save the city in the finale. I can hardly wait.
S. C. Stokes knocked another story about Kasey out of the park. Something surprising was told about her that makes her more than the normal magic user as well, hmm. Well no spoilers, sorry. We find Kasey's crew on the road to hurting down more evil arcane creatures as she found out not only did she kill a prince of vampires, she did not oust them from NY and has to continue to work on that problem. Oh and the last sentences are a cliffhanger. For Kasey's stories it works. A fast read and although I got a raw copy to review and had a few word issues which I know Samuel worked out it was a great. Can't wait for the next book. We'll worth the wait for this one.
Kasey is back and in this one her old enemies the vampires are back and she must figure out what they are up to while staying alive because things can never ever be straight forward. Secrets are revealed that leave Kasey wondering too. Just a great story in this series that starts with a bang and just kept me glued to the end to see what craziness Kasey must survive this time. Loved it and was entertained throughout the whole story. Plus my favorite characters pop in too along with a few new ones too. Just a great story to add to the series and Kasey's crazy life.
I'm in love with this series! I could gush about this series all day, and this book has to be my favorite one yet. Kasey's adventures have me on the edge of my seat throughout the whole crazy ride.
Kasey fights for her life (again) when she discovers that a bounty has been put on her head for her actions in the previous book. On the side, she helps her friends at the station with a case while also dealing with her gift being absent. As if that weren't enough excitement in her life, she learns a thing or two about herself and her family that shocks her.
So buckle up, it's a wild one!
(PS: I'm super excited about the next book, and I'm anxiously counting the days until its release!)
Some authors start slowing down around book #5, and some even loose their train of thought but keep writing anyway. Not to worry here, this author does not slow down! Kasey is kicking, taking names, and in some cases issuing final retribution. I must admit I read #1, lost track of the author and now have to go back to read the previous ones. That I remember #1 so well is a testament to just how good these books are.
A Day From Hell! In this nonstop action, adventure, thriller, Kasey faces death to many times to count, all in just one crazy day. Great characters come to her aide in this fast pace story filled with twist and turns, and things you will never see coming. Looking forward to more books from this world!
Wow this book didn’t disappoint, Kasey has found out from hades that there is a bounty on her head. Her mother has divulged some info into her family history. She is a Druid.but she has to save New York and it’s people. With her band of friends they have got their work cut out. Bring on the next instalment
like all of the previous Conjurer series...so excellent that it brought a non-paranormal story reader to the table for a great story, witty characters and some darn good world-building. This one is a definite yes! The whole series is good stuff.
If you like reading books with action, mystery, suspense well look no further because this book along with the other seven books in this series has it all and i can't wait to read the next one.
I haven’t been able to put the books down. I’ve read most of them in a week. I’m still reading the series. I love it! Kasey is a great character and very well rounded with a wonderful group of friends and colleagues around her.
Never a dull moment! Kasey and her colleagues have their hands full in this book the Feudal Court is trying to capture or kill Kasey and take over the city. Well done
Oh my not another vampire!! Kacey keeps at it, keeps going strong. Glad she has a little help now. On to book nine. This series keeps getting better and better!
Another incredible book in this fantasy series. Kasey gets into all sorts of trouble ( again) in this one and its 50/50 if she survives. Brilliantly written, lots of action and magic performed. Love the storyline and how it’s developed. This is such and great and original fantasy adventure second to none. Well worth a read.
