HIGHLAND SHADOWS, Beautiful Darkness Series, Book 1 is a Paranormal Highland Romance. Lily is hoping to release book 2 in the Beautiful Darkness Series in Spring 2016. She lives in New England with her cherished husband and daughter.
Quinn MacVie is on a mission to rescue Lord David Redesdale's daughter, Lady Catarina Ravensworth. Posing as Brother St. Augustine of Glenrose Abbey, he gains entry to Ravensworth Castle. There he meets Lord Henry Ravensworth, Catarina's husband. He is a man with an iron control over his castle servants, knights and wife. He believes order is the sign of nobility. He even schedules when his wife can see their son, Nicholas.
Quinn sets up a secret meeting with Catarina. He tells her that her father committed treason against King Edward. Her father and her sister, Bella, fled for their lives from Berwick, Lord David Redesdale's seat. Quinn reveals that he has come to rescue Catarina from her abusive husband. Catarina said no, she's not leaving. She tells Quinn she will have to tell Lord Henry the news about her family, and from whom she received it. Catarina asks Quinn/Brother St Augustine to stay in the stable.
Lady Catarina tells Lord Henry about her father. Lord Henry dismisses Catarina and sends for Brother St. Augustine. Henry's brother, Sir Rupert, is livid about Catarina's family and suggests strongly that Henry dissolve his marriage to save the Ravensworth name. Henry refuses. Sir Rupert in his anger strikes Henry, who's head lands on the hearth and dies. Rupert lies. He tell Catarina that she killed her husband. Catarina denies the deed. When Rupert tries to implement Quinn in the murder, he and Catarina, with baby Nicholas, flee from Ravensworth Castle. Will they escape Sir Rupert? Will Catarina clear her name from the murder charges?
I found this novel intriguing and encompassing. The characters are well fleshed out. The plot keeps the reader turning the pages. All the subplots are wrapped up. This can be a stand alone. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.
What I truly thought was amazing about this book was the slow awakening of Lady Catarina. Trapped in the world of a lady, she slowly stretches her wings...or rather is forced to...and finds joys in the simple things in life. It truly broke my heart when she held her newborn son, revealing that she had never been 'allowed' to hold him for that long before (her 'visits' were strictly scheduled). This is a sweet and touching story, and I loved every minute of it!
A compelling story of danger, love and honor. Quinn rescues Lady Caterina and her son from impending danger. They begin the perilous journey through Scottish moors and mountains hoping to find safety.
Quinn: A Scottish Outlaw by Lily Baldwin is an intriguing Medieval Historical Romance set against a Scottish backdrop. #2 in her magnificent "Highland Outlaws" series, but can be read as a stand alone. See, Book 1, "Jack: A Scottish Outlaw". Fast paced, well written with captivating, charming characters and a unique and intriguing storyline. Never a dull moment, from beginning to end. Meet Quinn MacVie, a Scottish rebel and outlaw to the crown whose been sent on a mission to collect, a friend's sister. Lady Catarina is accused of a horrific crime, killing her staid husband. Plus her father, is accused of being a traitor to the crown, so, he and her sister must flee, leaving Catarina vulnerable. Caught up in all the drama called, Catarina, they to must flee being captured by a man bent on killing her sister -in-law, and her wee son, is in danger, as well
Follow them on a grand adventure, filled with longing, fear, danger, passion and romance. Spanning across Scotland, with a price on their heads, and few they can actually trust, friend or foe.
On the run from her husband's younger brothers, one evil and gone mad, the other sweet and doesn’t believe his friend Catarina, a murderer. In order for her infant son to survive, she must surrender him to Quinn's family, to keep him safe from ALL harm.
I so enjoy this series, thus far. Full of action, passion, mystery and romance, with many twists and turns. Once again, Ms. Baldwin has written a powerful, utterly thrilling tale, where love may not prevail, nor a HEA happen. I cried, laughed and was aglast at times. A must read, for sure.

I can't wait for the next installment in this impressive tale of Scottish rebels, and the feisty lasses they embark on adventure with and what follows in their wake. WOW! Great story line, plot is good and well written. I love Lily Baldwin, her books can make you feel like you are a part of the story. Adventurous and intriguing, you will like this book. You do have some drawn out parts but really they are not so much that it takes away from the book or story. Over all SO worth the read.
This is book two of the serIes and was much better by far than book 1. Quinn is a grand outlaw and he falls in love with Bella's sister who he has saved from her evil brother-in-law who murdered his brother , Caterina' husband. He blames her and accuses her of the deed that he did. This book has more detail and is worth reading.
Wow, Mrs. Baldwin is a new to me author who I learned about through a Reading Group on Facebook, and I am so glad that I decided to read her book. I loved reading Quinn and Catarina's story because even through all the hardships they had to go through to clear her name, they were able to find true love together. And I truly can't wait to read the rest of this series because I can't wait to see all the other brothers and sister get their HEA.

This one or Alec would be my favorite!! This was such a well fleshed out story. I loved the hero Quinn, and it was really endearing to see Catarina come into her own when she’s forced to take care of herself after a life of luxury (albeit with a bit of spousal abuse :/). They made a really nice couple. The story was exciting all the way through and I loved how events unfolded.
This is an OK addition to the Highland Outlaw series, but the h was a bit hard to like at first. My rating is 3 stars.
I liked Quinn, but I had a hard time liking Catarina at first. She was cold, rigid, and kind of a rich snob, who considered herself better than a commoner like Quinn. She did get better as the story went on, but I really wondered why Quinn fell for her -- especially since he hated the English nobles so much after their king slaughtered so many innocent people.
I also wished the story had been longer, to allow for more character development. It would also have allowed more time for Catarina to become a more likable person.
My rating system is below. 1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it. 2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws. 3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating. 4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one. 5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.
I'm so Happy everything comes in the end with a happy ending.
But now that everything was swell, Why didn't Catarina tell Stephen about Thomas? I was hoping that Stephen would help Thomas with his clan. That would even be 5 stars!
(Trying not to insult Thomas but negotiate to be ally, given them some cattle and supplies. Would bring Thomas around without feeling insulted or thinking he received charity.)
I can't wait to read all about Ian...there is something about Ian that scream kindest more than that, like there is something special about him in the way Baldwin described him. (Unless I'm mistaken?)
Quinn MacVie is the second oldest brother after Jack. He was sent to rescue Bella’s sister Catarina at Ravenswood before word of her father’s treason reached them there. Initially she would not leave with him. Then she was accused of murder and had no choice but to flee to safety with Quinn. They embarked on a journey to safety that was action packed. Like the first book, I loved the characters and the story, one. Can’t wait to read Rory’s story next.
Interesting, realistic characters, world and romance
Many of the characters were well drawn, especially Quinn and Caterina. Her world in the castle is detailed and believable, as is their escape journey and the worlds of his friends and family. Most of the tale consists of their travels and the development of their relationship. What I missed in this book was a greater presence of the people and society in their worlds.
When Lady Catarina's father betrays the English King Edward in favor of his homeland of Scotland he must run with his younger daughter, Bella. Jack McVie takes them away and his brother, Quinn is sent to Lady Catarina for her protection and to manage her escape if her husband turns against her. But events turn gruesome and they are soon on the run. A good historical road trip and pursuit romance.
Lily wrote another good book. What a wonderful series! I love Catrina and Quinn's story. He is the perfect hero, strong ,courageous, kind and loving. This series supports strong family ties with honorable people. I recommend this book, you won't want to put it down.
There were lots of glaring typos. Missing words here and there and the wrong word used a couple of times just made me sigh in disappointment. The plot was enjoyable but I won't read more in this series. However, if you love a good damsel in distress story with a strong, determined heroine, you might enjoy this book.
This story focuses on one couple history (Catarina and Quinn’s) along with acquainting us with their family members. She is accused of murdering her husband Henry and for a variety of reasons she needs to prove her innocence. After some twists and turns we see justice done to those who deserve it and a happy ever after romance
I have mixed feelings about this book. It started well, and somewhere in the middle, the villain metamorphosed into something more evil. It might have been better if the narrator took us inside his head for more than a paragraph or two. Then again, it might have made the book too disgusting to finish. So I’ll pass on the series and the author.
This second book about the McVie family, we find Quinn sent to rescue Bella's sister, Catarina, before King Edward comes after her to pay for her father's treason. Her brother-in-law, Rupert, has other ideas and she and Quinn are on the run. This is another, edge of the seat adventure that will keep you on tenter hooks to the HEA.
Power and greed are the basic destruction of many individuals, families and nations. The evils of such destruction can be fought by good. Such is the tale of Quinn. Truth will prevail and justice will be served.
The two main characters literally spend their time dashing around the highlands. They are followed by others who have accused her of murder to cover their own guilt. All sorts of self out eventually to end happily with family reunited.
A fun if predictable read wherein a rough and tumble Highlander must go to England and steal a Lady who is in danger of being killed by the English King as the lady's father is a Highlander wanted to treason by the English king!
I so enjoy this author attention to detail, these stories are so well written that you feel like part of them, this is only book 2 of the series and I already purchased the next 2
This is my second book of this series I have read and love it very much was exciting and very full of drama, excitement, and lot's of love the characters are amazing!you are an awesome writer.Thank you
Really enjoyed how this played out. And it was fast last story not drawn out at boring. Glad Caterina was able to find love and get back her son . And Rupert got just what he deserved.
Good story and characters. Quinn rescues Catarina after her husband is killed by Rupert his brother, a cruel man. He puts blame on her , and she and Quinn and her infant son escape on the run. They have to stay on the move. Eventually Rupert catches up with them and there is a reckoning.

This is the second book in the Scottish Outlaw series. I look forward to reading the remaining 3 books . Although they are predictable, its fun to see how they get to "Happily ever after." ❤
