Rohmer's Garden

Rate this book
Rohmer’s Garden is a fascinating mix of odd Science Fiction stories:

*An astronaut finds himself stranded on a distant planet with nothing to do but tend his garden. But what a very strange garden it is.
*Playrooms were once all the rage in what had once been the modern/futuristic era, until something went horribly wrong. But perhaps the playrooms are making a come-back. Perhaps all the deadly kinks have been worked out . . . Perhaps! Are you up for a Demo?
*A man grows up missing a girl he once had a crush on. The girl died at a young age. Years later, that girl’s father has given him something special, new abilities. And now he’s got a new female in his life who is, well, almost human.
*What does the Edward Hopper painting, Nighthawks, have to do with computer gaming? Put your money down and find out. Will you survive?
*Alien archaeologists, fascinated by the history of the human race, are excavating what was once earth. Humans no longer exist. The archaeologists find something special, however, something they believe pertains to human religion. Does it?
*A young woman travels back in time by way of an avatar. The system is no more than a game. The time period and place of the game is Victorian London. While in the game she crosses paths with Jack the Ripper. A new game begins, a game of cat and mouse between this young woman and the dreaded, “Whitechapel Killer.”

These stories and more await you in Rohmer’s Garden. If you are a fan of Philip K. Dick, or perhaps Ray Bradbury, then you might just enjoy the read!

I thoroughly enjoyed these stories. There were some I really wanted to keep going and there were some that really made you use your imagination. There were two interconnecting ones that made you really excited and then they still left you hanging. But all of them were interesting and they had great characters. I won this book in a goodreads giveaway and I am very thankful for the opportunity to read this. I’m not always a fan of short stories but these were awesome. I can’t wait to read more by Mark Stattelman!

This was a GoodReads giveaway of a Kindle ebook.

I was not a fan. The stories were too short. Just seemed like setups for a longer story. I did not mind the writing, but there was little to no plot.

The last tale was a bit more interesting, but it ended in a cliff hanger. Only intended to get you to find the next book. And I was not all that interested in the main character to care enough to continue the plot line.

At least the submittal was short.

Have a GoodReads.

A shiver for your time

This is a book of short stories, unasked and terrifying tales of something other than normal. Loved the switches in plot lines. This was a free book to read and review. I am not fond of short stories as a routine but these left the subtle touch of nightmares. Very goo book but read in the daylight.

I received a digital copy of this through a Goodreads giveaway. (Thank you, Mr. Stattelman!)

This is a collection of nine sci-fi stories. They reminded me of Ray Bradbury and, in fact, “Playroom 3.0” is an homage to that author’s story, “The Veldt”. (I would recommend reading it first, then Mr. Stattelman’s). Other favorites are “Soul of a New Machine: The Spirit Catchers”, “Yellow Brick Road”, “It’s Something Like Russian Roulette“ - and I do want to hear more from Laura! - and the title story, “Rohmer’s Garden”.

I enjoyed this book, and I would recommend it to other readers.
