A Magician conference serves as the perfect cover for members of a secret magician society in this case steeped in illusion and sleight of hand.
When Rockford Security is hired to play bodyguard to high-profile magician Xavier Ballentine’s props and secrets, Blake sees it as an easy job for the youngest Rockford sibling, Garrett, to get some experience in the field. But a series of mysterious thefts and prop malfunctions prove there may be more to this job that he first thought.
Soon Garrett finds himself thrust into a world of underground intrigue and illusion where things can change in the blink of an eye. As he chases down a cold-blooded killer, he realizes there is much more at stake than just a magician’s closely held secrets, what he’s been guarding would be disastrous if it fell into the wrong hands.
What started out as an easy job turns into the Rockfords most important job ever and innocent lives hang in the balance.
L.A. Dobbs is the not-so-cozy pen name of USA Today bestselling cozy mystery author Leighann Dobbs. Under the name L.A. Dobbs, she writes engaging mysteries that have twisty plots filled with secrets and lies.
Garrett Rockford, the youngest sibling, normally sits at the Sales Desk. In the first book he did help out at a music festival wanting to show Blake he could help out on the security side. Because he did so well Blake has given him an assignment keeping an eye on Xavier Ballentine's magic props, etc. at the Lucky Ace Casino during a magician's convention.l Garrett thought it was going to be a boring assignment until the dove cage has mysteriously left open. someone breaks into Xavier's office and a fellow magician is killed. Xavier's assistant, Jessica, is injured when props malfunction. Garrett wanted to handle this assignment himself until all of these things happened and he needefd to confide in Blake. This book will keep you guessing and turning those pages until the end. These books are all stand-alone stories about different members of the Rockford clan. This one is an excellent follow-up to One Lie Too Many, the first in the series. I cannot wait to read number three. I received an advance copy of this book. This is my honest opinion.
Garrett. one of the younger Rockford siblings, normally mans the sales desk. He is desperate to convince his older brother Blake to let him work in the field. Blake assigns Garrett to watch over a magician's props at a magic competition. Things get a little weird when a cage-full of doves gets loose. Garrett wants Blake to see he can handle himself in the field, so he decides to handle the assignment until there is a murder. Then things really go sideways. There are lots of false leads and dead-ends before the surprising true perpetrator is found. Another great story with strong characters and terrific mystery!
This is the second book in the Rockford Security series. This book has Garrett getting out from behind the sales desk and into the field. He is assigned to watch some magician’s props. Things go sideways when a friend of the magician is killed.
This was a real eye opener for Garrett. What started out as a seemly benign first case gives him a lot of experience.
I found the mystery to be interesting and full of plot twists. The characters are flawed but strong. Looking forward to the next installment.
I was given an advanced reader’s copy and am not required to leave a positive review.
Another amazing book in the Rockford Security series! Each book is a stand alone, and features a different member of the family. This one features Garrett, the youngest of the Rockford siblings. Garrett gets to get in some field work, guarding the magician Xavier's props and office during a magician's conference at the Lucky Ace casino. What he thought was going to be a boring gig, turns out to be more than he bargained for. Are the break-ins, and tampering just attempts for trade secrets, or is there something more nefarious going on. This kept me guessing until the very end!!
Another great read in the continuing saga of the Rockford Security Mystery Series
Another great read in the continuing saga of the Rockford Security Mystery Series. Garret takes lead in this who'd one bit rollercoaster ride of a mystery. Face paced, exciting and a glued to your seat, can't put it down kind of story. So fasten your seatbelt, get your popcorn bowl and your book so we can see where this ride takes us. See if you can figure it out!!!
What a good story. This story was a good at including all the characters. Although, only one is generally who the story is created around it's interesting how the author makes sure all of the characters are included in some form or fashion! I recommend this series to another looking for thrilling mystery!
What terrible rubbish, probably written for (uneducated) teenagers. Couldn't handle more than 2-3 dozen pages, always hoping it would improve. Don't waste your money, this is a serious for exceedingly UNserious readers..
Garrett, one of the younger Rockford siblings, is usually in the office handling sales, but after helping with the case at the music festival he's given the job of guarding the props belonging to famous magician Xavier Ballentine at the Magician Conference. Easy, peasy until odd things start happening and then someone is murdered.
This was an enjoyable mystery with quite a few red herrings of who the murderer could be. I did think Garrett should have known better than to go off on his own, but understood as a younger sibling he felt he had to prove himself. I wonder if he'll want to leave the safety of the sales desk again anytime soon?
Youngest Rockford brother Blake gets his wish with a field work assignment, he’ll be working the magician’s conference, specifically ensuring one magician’s secrets stay secret. But something’s not quite right when he goes on duty one evening, things look like maybe a burglary occurred and more annoying is Blake has to consult with his brother on it. Rating: 2.75stars
This book changed my mind. The first book was not to my liking. This one was really good. I loved the characters, especially Garrett. Very well written and held my attention to the last sentence in the book. L A. Dobbs has become one of my favourite authors. Look forward to the next in the series.
I've never been too fond of magician tales but this was better than expected. It was thrilling and suspenseful and I've come to adore the Large Rockford family. I'm looking forward to getting to know them better.
Garrett proves himself in the field when he solves a murder and a theft. The wandering brother shows up for their parent's anniversary. Garrett decides his desk job is good for now and they've decided to offer their cousin, Owen a job.
I didn't find this 1As exciting as the 1st 1Which had more Twist and turns in it. It's pretty simple to figure out Who's Who's doing The bad stuff But yes of course it's worth reading
Garret was amazing in his security job. Some chuckles of his embarrassing moments gives a positive perspective of the youngest sibling now trusted and acknowledged better in the family business. Yay Garret!
I didn’t feel this was as good as others in this series. It is written as 2nd in the series, but was actually written after 3 through 5. It seemed to drag.
