Rate this book
As the Time War rages, Cardinal Ollistra of Gallifrey seeks to create ever more dangerous weapons to deploy against the enemy.

When the Doctor stumbles across Synthesis Station, he discovers that the Time Lords have sponsored a project to weaponise already-lethal creatures. But in doing so, Eva Morrison and her team have unwittingly used a colony of Vashta Nerada with a very unfortunate history of humanoid contact.

The Doctor finds himself leading a desperate race for survival, in which the shadows may be the least of their worries…

this boxset opened with Tom Bakers' 4th Doctor and a Vashta Nerada where humanity destroyed the Flora & Fauna of a planet to create Funworld. The Vastha Nerada are quite angry and eat the people.
The boxset closes with the 8th Doctor meeting the Vastha Nerada on a spacestation where these little monsters get weaponized. Then the Doctor meets the Cardinal a timelady who paid for the alterations of the Vastha Nerada, which could be a weapon in the Timewar. Somebody does a Jurrasic Park and opens all security force field to escape the station with a container full of the little critters.
Of course everything goes wrong and when the TARDIS energizes for the last time this story once more the Doctor and the Timelady survive.
She wants to know why he does not work with his people for the cause. The Doctor answers her: " I am not a warrior, I am the Doctor."
So I gather that this is an early tale of the 8th Doctor within the Timewar.
For me the 8th Doctor is always a brilliant one, the first reason to listen Big Finish a long time ago. It is still a good story.

Enemies and monsters from the new series with Doctors from the classic series? Sounds like a perfect combination.

Paul McGann’s (Eighth) Doctor returns with another chapter from The Time War and this time someone wants to weaponize the piranhas of the air - YIKES! At least in terms of production, this appears to be one of the earliest battles that McGann’s Doctor fights in the Time War. Nicely twisted little tale on the immorality of manufacturing weapons of mass destruction.
