Her father was a time traveler, and he’s left her with a mission...
The year is 1929, and Catherine Christie’s world turns upside down when, on her 25th birthday, she receives a box from her long-dead father containing an explosive secret: he was a time traveler. In the box is also a medallion that can take her into the past, and he has left her breadcrumbs to the largest pirate treasure that has ever been lost, a treasure her ancestors have sought for generations…
Sebastian Talbot is a disgraced former Duke who trades in antiquities. He meets the alluring Catherine at The Great Exhibition of 1851, unaware that she is 80 years before her time and is laying a trap for the pendant he always wears around his neck. She seduces him, gets her hands on the necklace and plunges them both into the past…
As Catherine and Sebastian embark on the adventure of a lifetime, the pull of their desire is as magnetic as their magical medallion. The closer they get to finding the lost treasure, the closer they get to each other. But Sebastian still doesn’t know who she really is. Will Catherine reveal her secret and give them a chance at love?

2.5 really. I couldn't get much good of this book. Started off really well and I was looking forward to the story. When Catherine first arrives in 1851 and meets Sebastian they get on well instantly and I liked the way things were going. Then when they end up in 1831 Catherine changes almost straight away and becomes, quite frankly, annoying. She treats Sebastian as if she dislikes him and I just found it too much of a sudden change. The story meanders on after this with a lot of characters added along the way. We care very little about any of these as they have almost no back story and seem to be added just to be villains. The plot is very contrived at times and I got confused towards the end. The main characters didn't mean anything to me and I didn't care what happened to them. All in all disappointing for me.
Had a good premise but I had some problems with the writing. There were a handful of anachronisms. An English man from 1851, for example, would not have said the word 'okay " , nor would he have understood the reference to the expression, "down the rabbit hole" as Alice in Wonderland had not been written yet. Also the female character acted too modern for someone from 1929. Her views on propriety may not have been quite as puritanical as someone from the 19th century but in 1929 there was still a strict code of behavior by which society still observed for women and reputations could still be ruined easily. Also clothing. By the 20's women's clothing was much less modest and restricting than the Victorian era but women, while no longer wearing corsets, still wore girdles.

I’m a sucker for time-travel fish-out-of-water speculative fiction. I tolerate the “Romance” because I know I’m not the primary market for bodice-ripper fiction. Even after Outlander, this gets a bit too explicit for my taste…. Tho it didn’t cause me to abandon the tale either.
I loved how Catherine's father set everything in place for his daughter. I enjoyed the back and forth traveling. I wish Sebastian we could have read about Sebastian's trip into the future.
I felt as if Catherine was from the 1980s or 1990s or later. She did not view life as someone from 1929 would have. Put her in some Victoria Secret underwear from a year after 2000, that is how it sounded when Sebastian looked upon her underwear. Plus, not carrying about them being a carriage alone and her ideas, they all seemed to come from years after 1929. That kept throwing me off.
The story does drag on at time. I did some page flipping and speed reading.
If you enjoy reading time travel romance, lost treasure and ancient magical items from the lost treasure, you should definitely give this story a read.

Overall, I would give this book a 3.7. I listened to the audiobook version of this, and sometimes when I do that, I miss things versus when I am reading. There were times where I thought the plot was a little confusing because of the people and time they were in. Every chapter I kept asking, "Wait, what year are we in again?" I would have liked the reminder each chapter, even if it would have been a little repetitive, but it would have helped those with short memory remember. Overall, I enjoyed the book and the premise of it. However, I felt the development of the characters a little lacking. I enjoyed Sebastian a lot, but Katherine was a little bit meh for me.
Not a bad book, I read it in about 3 days. Not a lot of action or mystery. But it has the typical time traveler back and forth confusing explanations. All in all a good book that I would characterize as a romantic times travel book. Word of warning though, if does have a pretty graphic sex scene description near the end.
I have read many time travel stories. This is the first time I read all the travel back and fourth. I enjoyed the fact that her father did so many things for them. The fast pace of the story was good. It kept me reading and reading into the nite, to see what was to happen. Thank ypu.
A different kind of time travel story!!!😃 There were parts of the story that I had to re-read, because the time travel was quite intricate and involved at times!!!😉 There was danger, adventure and love. 😏 All in all, a very exciting book!!!!😁 (And I am thrilled that there is another book in the series to read... right now!!!!!😃)
This is a wonderful concept for a time travel book and all of the various twists and turns made for an exciting and unusual story. The main characters were very well drawn and quite likable. I hope that we will meet them again in the next books of the series.
I read this book when I should have been doing other things, it pulled me in and kept me hooked on the story, wondering who the characters were, and on edge waiting for something disastrous to happen and everything to fall apart.
Well written, and definitely would recommend it to anyone looking for a good time travelling story! I now want to read the next!
Definitely a romance, but the historical aspects were weak. It moved along, though, and the mechanics of time travel were handled well. It could have used more time with the editor, though. There were too many odd phrases or word choices, as well as things that Catherine knew how to do that didn't tally with the time or situation she was in.
If I could travel back in time I would be thrilled. Of course the author of this book made it possible for some. Emma Strike is a genius. I’ve read a few of her books and never get bored.
The storyline of this book had great potential, but was unfortunately delivered in a chaotic manner so at times became confusing. I am hoping the sequel will be more polished since I am interested in what happens next.
What a great story line. I was kept enthralled; wondering what would happen next. It was wonderful the way that the love story was woven in too. A great read all around. I really enjoyed this book.
Concentration was essential in part of the book it seam to loose me and then all of a sudden all became it was a different type of time travel book to my normal read and I enjoyed the change
I have always been fascinated by the idea of time travel. This was a great story set in 1929,1851 and 1831. It was well written and no over the top sex . I would definitely recommend this book
Such a well written story, I felt as if I was really back in time with Catherine and Sebastian. There struggles and strengths were well written and I felt every turn in the story as it twisted with plots and discerption.
I was able to get into the story pretty quickly and stayed interested until the end. I also purchased the box set of books 1-3, so I am looking forward to seeing what happens next for Catherine and Sebastian.
I thoroughly enjoyed it. The limited time travel was great, it provided more of a chance to explore the contrasts more leisurely. The adventure created the perfect interruptions to any extremes from developing.
Through about 2/3 of the book it seem to be very slow. It did not pick up until near the end. It had a great ending, just took a long time to get there.
I loved the story line and the ups \ downs within the book. The romance was A1 and definitely is one of the best time travel books I've had the pleasure of reading!
