Reading this book has been a prayer life revolutionizing process for me! The perspective shift on how I ought to view prayer was invaluable to me, and the exercises were perfect for putting this new perspective into practical steps! Completely recommend this book to anyone who is feeling anxious about the future because 21 Days of Childlike Prayer really helped me to lay my fears of the future at the feet of the Lord!
I really liked the first half of the book, especially the theology of praying in a more childlike way. It really encouraged me and helped me grow in my prayer life and relationship with God. I also like the practical structure to prayer—though I’ve taken bits of it that work for me and not necessarily follow the exact structure laid out.
It got a bit repetitive toward the second half and I found it hard to finish, but overall worth the read!
This book has some real good prayer tools! I don't think it is an all-inclusive book on prayer, because it is mainly emphasizing the child-like aspect of prayer, but it has a good foundation to help people enrich their prayer life. It also includes daily prayer prompts/spaces. A bit repetitive at times, but a good place to start a deeper habit.
A great read from my friend Jed Coppenger. Easy to read. Accessible truth. Tons of application. If you want to gain satisfaction and confidence in your prayer life, this is a must read.
I would give this book a thousand stars if I could. This is one that will stay on my nightstand forever. I am approaching and experiencing prayer in a way like I never before. Everyone should own and continually read/pray over these words of clarity and wisdom.
On one hand, I felt as though this book had practical tools to implement in daily prayer life. On the other hand, often times it felt “prosperity gospel-ish.” Although, I say that with trepidation because I fear some may not pick it up after I use that term. The entire book wasn’t like this, and I don’t think the heart of the author intended for it to come across that way. I believe his intention was to encourage children of God that we can come to the father and talk to him about anything. Overall, I only felt that way in a couple of chapters. In general, writing a book on prayer is a huge task as people try to walk the line of encouraging others to ask without abandon while also understanding that God’s nos are more sovereign than my own plans.
Overall, a well-written book with many, many helpful practical tips on how to improve your prayer life. The imagery of the "childlike" attitude was very helpful in understanding the character of prayer, and the discussion questions were insightful and thought-provoking. However, I do think that this book must be read in the context of other prayer materials, as it lacks commentary on other important aspects of prayer, such as confession and thanksgiving. The book largely centers on how to make requests to God, which is important, but not comprehensive. That said, I really enjoyed going through the 21 days with a friend, and would highly recommend it for group study!
This book was recommended by the Charles Spurgeon devotional as a way to improve your daily prayer life. That's exactly what it did; if you struggle like I did, this little book might just help.
I loved using this book as a daily way to connect with God in a more childlike way and begin to build these skills together to assist me in my faith journey.
