Deansgate

Rate this book
The skyline of the city of Manchester is changing, bringing with it a new identity. The buildings are getting taller and the divisions between rich and poor are getting ever wider. The dynamic and ambitious Mayor is driving the changes, but there are some who wish to reshape the city by other means. A man is shot dead at a far-right rally and a spokeswoman for the black community is similarly killed soon after. In the city, and on the estates, rioting breaks out and the police must act to stem the civil unrest before it escalates to beyond the control of their limited resources. As the media make frantic and risky efforts to cover the rapidly moving events, a forensic break changes the direction of the case. Detective Superintendent Zoe Heaney, still reeling from a career-threatening suspension and struggling to conceal her own fears, is chasing a ruthless serial killer. As the past lives of each victim is probed, the list of suspects grows alarmingly, and the shooting continues. Caught in the line of fire are; the vulnerable, the homeless, the addicted, the fragile and the minorities, along with those who live, work and play in the city. Manchester is under siege and the streets are no longer safe. Where will the Deansgate sniper strike next?
