SAINT

I screwed up--big time.

I broke the heart of my best friend. The one person I promised myself I'd never hurt.

Now he's back after two years, and I hardly recognize him. Danny--sorry, Daniel--is nothing like the scarred, broken kid who left in the middle of the night without saying goodbye. Because of me.

Those brown eyes that were once so full of warmth and adoration have turned cold as ice, but the fire he stirs in me is hotter than the place I deserve to be after what I did. When I lock eyes with him just before he goes onstage with my ex's band, I realize why he came back.

He wants to ruin me.

And you know what? I just might let him.

-

DANIEL

Fate took almost everything from me, but at least I still had my brother, and Saint, my best friend and hopeless crush.

When I found Saint with my brother, the one man who was off-limits, I lost both of them, too.

But fate wasn't finished with me. A fire started by my brother's enemies claimed half my face, and then I had to go through literally losing my brother.

Then, I gained a spine. And fifty pounds of muscle.

The fragile, pathetic kid I used to be is dead and gone. I love the way Saint's jaw drops when he sees me, like I'm a ghost from his past.

A ghost who's going to make him pay for all his sins.

First, I'll take the man who broke his heart before he sold the shattered pieces to the devil.

Then I'll take those, too, because I'm not the lovesick fool I was back then. As far as he's concerned, I am the devil, and I won't stop until I possess all of him--his filthy soul included.

The only problem is, mine still belongs to him.

Author's note: This is a friends to enemies to lovers romance between a brooding guitarist and a cinnamon roll keyboardist turned badass hellbent on revenge. This book features a rocky road to the HEA, high angst, high heat, and plenty of sweetness. The same general content notes from prior books in this series apply here.

I received an ARC from the author and this is my honest review...

There was too much going on in this book. I was waiting for Danny and Saint's book... and even though it started strong it kind of gave me so many WTF moments especially after the 50% mark.

Even though Joel is an author who I click with, whose books I normally read pretty fast which was also the case here, I couldn't help but think that this book was stuffed with too many tropes and events for such a short book.

I also didn't believe the connection between Saint and Danny... it felt tarnished as well after Danny practically transforms into another person.

Some events were glossed over..I won't get into details to keep this spoiler free.

I get trauma changing a person, but in this case Danny became someone entirely different and it didn't really click with how he treated Saint, someone he has been in love with for so long.

Saint also was very inconsistent... the things he did were unforgivable but the way he just went belly up for Danny later didn't fit his personality at all.

The sexual dynamics also didn't make sense... things were just introduced on the spot which I didnt get.

So many things didnt really work for me... it was bummer really because I wanted to like it. Things didn't add up, plot holes...

Honestly if the love of your life fucks your brother, his ex is absolutely fair game for revenge. Absolutely, without a doubt. Yes. I am a Danny apologist.

TL:DR; Saint fucked Danny and a few days later, fucked around with Danny's brother, Adam. Cue transformation of sweet formerly down bad Danny into a Kendrick level hater.

Aight, so. This is not romance. This is petty cut off your nose to spite your face revenge and I enjoyed it(and will review it) accordingly.

Danny saying seeing the devastation on Saint's face made it worth every minute.

💀

Sorry but I simply have to stan. I've been waiting for a petty ass MF for a timeeeee.

"I joined Denizens to piss you off. Fucking Chris? I did that to gut you."

Yassssssss Danny. Finish. Him.

Him doing it solely for revenge and not lying to himself about it? I can respect it. If he didn't respect you there's no reason you should respect him.

Sorry but thems the rules.

And he's just going around telling him how often he's fucking his ex who broke his heart. 😂💀😂💀

Oh, Danny you will forever be famous.

Honestly I love punishment for punishment's sake. I will not apologize for it. I can get behind someone forgiving their emotional abuser if they made them pay for it in blood first.

Bet he'll think twice next time. What more could I ask for in a love story? ❤️💀

Danny got MEAN and I support all of it.

"I'm going to teach you how to fuck a guy like you're not a selfish asshole who thinks only of himself."

"Open your mouth. Stick it in. Pretend that I'm Chris."

💀

LAWD.

Whole time Saint was having trouble deciding what exactly to be mad about.

'I hated Chris more for any time Danny touched him than for anything he'd ever done.'

Oh?

Good. Die mad.

Glad the friends weren't giving nonsense advice this time.

"You think I should forgive him for fucking my dead brother?"
"GOD, no. If someone had done that to me, I'd probably have poisoned them already."

"Do you really want to spend the rest of your life devoting that much energy to hating him?"
"Yes. That sounds pretty good, actually."

"I used to hate someone very much, too, once upon a time."
"What, and then you had a long talk about your feelings with Yoni playing in the background and everything was okay?"
"No. I fucked him. And then I married him. So that I could make him miserable forever."

Even the advice is unhelpful. The kind of friendship we all deserve ❤️

They stayed out of it all those years while Saint was playing with Danny's heart like a guitar therefore it was only right that they stayed out of it while he exacted his revenge.

And the sex!

Degradation is very much a part of this, especially sexually. Also cock cages.

After fucking him, "It doesn't mean anything. You of all people should know that."

Danny. Danny. I would march to war with this man. (Not really because ew, exercise. But I really really rate his level of petty).

After denying him an orgasm, "Since you're only capable of loving yourself, fucking yourself should come naturally."

Sadly, this is genre romance so of course they sorted out their issues at the end, but I won't get into that since it's not what I loved about this.

On a side note, Danny really was an adorable cutie patootie at the start.

But then shit (Saint) happened and he was radicalized so thereafter only his radical self was available 🤷🏾‍♀️

And to that, I say:

RAH!

Hate wins❤️😂

Okay, first? This is NOT a safe for me read in any way, and I read it on purpose, knowing that. It is not a cheating book, no, there’s no cheating! 😂 Just MCs fucking several different people and, oh, also occasionally each other. I’m reading outside of my comfort zone, and I thank @Evelyn for several suggestions. So, heads up, some upcoming reviews may not be the most...logical?! Read at your own risk.

Bonus star to this author for being very clear in the TWs that there is MC sex-with-non-MCs throughout the book. I appreciate that.

I read this book for the petty mind games after one MC fucks the other’s brother after they’ve gotten together once, and boy, did it deliver. Finally, someone doesn’t roll over and say “it’s okay” when it is so, SO not okay. The problem w this book trying to front an HEA is that it never will be okay.

But first. Can we talk about how wrong for the book that title is? There’s no “Saving” Saint. A better title would be Destroying Danny, or Reap What You Sow. Or Rock Stars Behaving Badly. Also, the band/touring element was way weird, with this supposedly huge rock band having a rotating roster of members, and that element didn’t feel authentic, none of them were believable as musicians, but, whatever. It’s fiction.

It’s really a sad book. Danny evolves from kind, earnest golden retriever guy in love to cold, jaded badass who can’t move past any of what happened, including a truly bleak time of violence that had nothing to do w the other MC. I mean, he shouldn’t get over any of it, it was way f’d up, and I wouldn’t have either. But a romance it did not make. This would have been a better book if it was about Danny’s journey to independence/self-respect/creating a life he loved, and not him eventually hooking up with and “committing” (I use the term very, very loosely) to weak, way-too-many-excuses, man-ho Saint. Him I could drop off a cliff and cheer. Even worse, Saint’s casual bad choices were mostly made with zero compunction (oh, he felt bad *after* just, never enough not to *do* things...ha bloody ha). It turns out what Saint needed to "save" him was a dom to keep him in line, but the way Danny becomes Daniel and what Saint needs is beyond fucked up. It's just really, really sad.

One main issue is that Saint's moral code is unheroic. He knows what loyalty is, but he has no true honor, and that comes out when he's drunk. Which he is, a lot. Witness him fucking Danny's brother, knowing it'll hurt Danny badly, even though he doesn't even like the guy.

Saint does tell Danny and the reader who he is, time and time again. “useless” “whore” “fucking idiot” It’s too bad Danny didn’t believe him. I sure did (well, not whore, I think that’s a ridiculous outdated concept, but, useless and idiot, absolutely). (Note: I’m waiting for the day I find a book in which one MC actually believes the other when he says he’s a POS and takes action accordingly. Anyone got suggestions for that?).

Instead, we got this depressing yet entertaining clusterfuck of a...well, clusterfuck. That’s appropriate.

Boy in a band has unrequited crush on “best friend” and bandmate, a notorious (cliched) man-ho. “Best friend” fucks boy. Then “best friend” fucks boy’s brother, crushing boy. Then something really, really bad happens to boy, “best friend” isn’t there for him, and boy has to go away for a while. Boy-now-man comes back fucking “best friend turned hated enemy’s” ex, whom “now enemy” has always been hung up on. Much petty vengeance ensues. Somehow that turns into boy and “enemy” finally getting together for real.

The end.

Oh wait, there’s a discussion from the band manager/father figure about how forgiveness isn’t for the person you’re forgiving, it’s really for you, so you don’t have to carry that weight around. To that, I quote: “...and I may forget but I’ll...never forgive...the smallest man who ever...lived.” –TS

Seriously folks, we don’t have to forgive anyone. Just forget about ‘em. Indifference is the best cure.

Saint is definitely in the running for smallest man who ever lived. Danny-turned-Daniel is his competition, in the end. Ultimately, they brought each other down SO much. It didn't help that we were Told that before all the fucking of other people happened, Saint and Danny were close friends who hung out and wrote songs together and Saint realized he really did "love" (ha ha ha) Danny the whole time, that those times meant so much to him, and he just didn't want to fuck it up with Danny by taking it a step further to sleeping with him, but, we were never Shown any of that on page, so, sorry...that didn't track. The realizations and declarations at the end had already been undercut by the callous, thoughtless, lazy actions at the start, and Saint was able to commit to Daniel only as the colder, harder, disillusioned person he became, so...I just didn’t believe in Them as a couple. Good luck.

But, yes, Maximus Decimus Meridius, I was entertained.

Happy reading!

3.5./5

This was probably the most dramatic book in the series. Poor Danny suffers so much and it takes a long time for him to get the happiness he deserves. His transformation from broken, selfless boy in love to hardened dom was brilliant, but the transition "back" to love was a bit abrupt for me. And the fact that it all ultimately was was frustrating to me.

While this was probably my least favorite volume, I've overall loved this series. The characters all grow so much and I applaud Abernathy for allowing his characters to make actual mistakes without erasing their capacity for change and love.

This book can be read as a standalone, but my advice is to read the previous books in the series first, because there are subtle layers to the characters and their history that could be missed without.

Part enemies to lovers, part forgiveness and redemption and all around intensely emotional, Saving Saint emanated strong feelings. The author skillfully navigated the relationship development between
former friends turned enemies Saint and Danny/Daniel. They both carried so much emotional baggage and from their fraught reunion and through all their journey together, I was rooting for them. I hoped they'd forgive themselves and each other, heal past hurts and start fresh together.

Their road wasn't easy but when they lost all negatives like misunderstandings, resentment and fears, they became explosive and fit together beautifully. Hard earned happiness, finally! Loved it.

Read this book because I really wanted some friends to enemies to lovers, and I read somewhere this would be that, so even if it's not my usual kind of story, I wanted to give it a try, and I'd say it was what I was looking for, kind of, but also it was way too fast near the end there and in general the stuff near the end probably just wasn't for me.
But I mostly read this for the drama and heartbreak, and I'd say it delivered pretty well on those. There's a lot going on, a lot of tropes and klischees and just a los in general, but most of it did kind of fit together, and the first half or so of the book was pretty alright in my opinion. Also some stuff after that as well, and in general I'd say all of it was alright, it's just that it got a little too kinky for me at some point in a way that felt like that stuff was more important than the characters actually talking and changing and working together, and it kind of felt like all the kinks were like a coping mechanism so they didn't have to actually work on their relationship, and that might be alright for some people, I think, it's just that I'm way more into emotional stuff instead of nsfw-stuff, so at some point it kind of fell apart for me, sadly, and I didn't like it as much as I hoped I would.
It was still a pretty easy and fast read, even with the quite heavy topics, and I don't regret reading it or anything, I just wished that the "recovery" would have been a little more detailed and written-out, because like this I sadly lost interest at some point.

I read this book all in one sitting because it is IMPOSSIBLE TO PUT DOWN. Am I okay? No!! I adore Danny and Saint!! I am not okay because I feel overwhelmed. This book is an absolute roller coaster of emotions that has even the other books in this series beat, and they don’t even come CLOSE. I’ve been waiting for this book for months and it finally came out, and of course I just had to read this immediately. And while there’s a part of this story I can’t say I really liked, the last half was angst and a half and brought in some Dom sadist humiliation and pet-play kink into play, so I guess I’m willing to overlook everything else.

Trigger warnings are included at the beginning of the book (and quite detailed ones at that! and they don’t spoil the story). I would include extra warnings for death, mentions of heroin addiction, and mentions of possible alcoholism. Warnings pasted here are from the beginning of the book from the author:

This book is one I didn’t expect to happen. Danny and Saint are characters that were introduced later in the series. They were part of a band under Sterling called Organic Animal and were later brought into Dante’s Infernal. While I wouldn’t say it’s absolutely necessary to read the books in order or to have read the other books in the series first before this one, I think it’s still better to read the books in order to give you a sense of who’s who and what their relationships are like since the other couples show up quite significantly in the story.

We don’t know Danny and Saint’s ages in this book, but it’s alluded to that Saint is older and Danny is maybe not quite old enough to be allowed into nightclubs when the story starts, but is older than 18. Danny grew up in foster care and has an older brother, Adam, who calls him up from time to time and never for anything good.

When Adam swears he’s gone to rehab and everything actually stuck this time and he’s sober, Danny manages to convince a very skeptical Sterling and Drake to let Adam into their now unusually sober band and for Adam to be their new drummer. Since Saint has a problem with running all of their drummers off.

At first, I thought this was going to be a Dante situation where a guy coming into the band who was addicted to hard drugs was going to get the help he needed and get his affairs in order. I even thought, however brief, that maybe this wasn’t the last book in the series because Adam seemed to be an interesting prospect who could get his HEA too.

But, wow, was I wrong on that count.

Maybe that’s why this part of the story doesn’t work for me and maybe it’s because I read this book all in one go, but the Adam storyline just feels too sad? Yes, it does work to bring Danny and Saint around eventually, but the whole thing feels depressing in a series about band members and highlights their recoveries. I wish it all could’ve turned out different where Adam was concerned and he didn’t have to be the bad guy.

Like I said in the intro, this book IS angst and the author does this really well. And I can’t really think I’ve ever read a friends to enemies to lovers romance, but I think it was believable here. Danny and Saint’s relationship is complicated. They’ve been friends since Organic Animal started and Danny has been in a one sided love with Saint for maybe just as long. Saint never really saw Danny in the same light because he’s scared of wrecking their friendship if sex gets invoked. But I think that Saint really just had no idea how much Danny loved him. I think if things had stayed as they are, their relationship wouldn’t have worked out in the long run because they both really wouldn’t have been what they needed for each other. I love that this book didn’t have a third act breakup, and everything that broke between them happened more organically. Although, would I have liked more angst on Saint’s part during the time they spent apart? I think so. We didn’t really get to see that time pass from Saint’s perspective as much and I would’ve liked to have more of a balance between Saint’s and Danny’s perspective during that time.

The rock band story is more in the background here. Their lives on tour and putting out albums is complementary to the angst that is Danny and Saint exploring and working out their relationship and what they really wanted. It worked for me, but if anyone wanted more a rock band aspect and actually loving that life more on the page, I don’t think readers will find it with this book. It also requires readers to not look too closely and interrogate all the logistics of band life because I think none of it actually makes sense? For instance, Adam might’ve used to be a drummer at one point in his life, but he’s been away from it for awhile now in favor of drugs, and without any practice, he’s supposed to just be able to join the band as a replacement drummer mid-tour and go on stage the next day?? Yeah, just go with it.

At least Danny and Saint’s story is engaging and so full of the angst I adore from romance books that it leaves readers skeptical at how they’re getting a HEA. They do, but it’s hard won. I do like how this book accomplishes both in focusing on Danny and Saint’s story, while also wrapping up the series as a whole. It’s impressive. I guess the one thing I would have liked more is if we could’ve seen more weddings for characters from their own perspectives? Overall, I loved the found family aspect and how angsty these books were and how all the characters found their HEA. This series was darker at a lot of times than the usual rock star romance, and that’s just what I love about Joel’s writing. This series is probably my all-time favorite from them now, but I can’t wait to see what books they have release in the future!!

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review
This is the first book I've read by Joel Abernathy and as an introduction I was impressed. It delves into the hectic world of rock stars - on tour and in private. It is intense, emotional and I couldn't put it down. It dug into the feeling of utter betrayal of Danny by Saint - a guy he's been in love with forever. Sadly Saint is one of these guys who thinks he's God's gift to anyone wearing trousers and he betrays Danny by screwing Danny's brother immediately after he and Danny had been intimate for the first time. Danny leaves, utterly devastated and for 18 months stays away. But then he joins up with another band who happen to be touring with Saint's band and Danny decides on a course of downright diabolical revenge, hurt, and payback. How far will he go and how does Saint react when the tables are turned and he's on the receiving end of some pretty dominating and degrading treatment.
I recommend the book, but beware - if stuff like this triggers readers - don't get it and rubbish the author. Joel has done a great job of covering all areas of emotion, payback, hurt, revenge, and reality dawning on the two major players.

Thank you for the ARC read, I voluntarily give this book an honest review. *May contain spoiler* Danny and Saint is one wild rollercoaster ride of drama. The pain and humiliation that Danny felt he suffered from the unemotional unapologetic Saint is about to come around and bite him in the butt in the form of Daniel. Just curious to know how someone can claim they loved and fan-boyed after the rebellious Jocab Saint how Danny couldn't see the self hating and destruction Saint did all to his self. Reading at the beginning thinking it going to go one way only to flip on me mid-way. Saint is all about self-destruction but to agree so readily should have clued the blinded by revenge Danny that made me worry for a bit.  On a lighter note you get glimpses of the Dante's inferno band, while Drake has turned in to the band mom haha.

I have lukewarm feelings about this book. The 'Daniel' persona was kind of a hard sell for me, TBH. Especially his sudden hatred for Saint - I get why his experiences would mess him up and why his relationship with Saint would be messed up, but it seemed like an extreme 180, like he woke up one day and decided 'I hate Saint and want to be a dick to him' - which is kinda what Joel does (it literally is described in a single page out of nowhere).

Of the 4 books, I think book 3 tops it, then maybe 1. 2 and 4 are tied - those 2 have a pretty similar plot, actually.

I'm usually intrigued by Joel's books because his MCs are never really nice people or not one-dimensional people and they have somewhat of a redemption arc in that they're less shitty than the beginning of the book, but it makes for an interesting read (mostly)

I’m going to miss this series!! Saint and Danny are both members of Dante’s Inferno. Danny has a high crush on Saint, but Saint sees Danny as a younger brother and friend. Saint is a screw up of sorts and constantly pushes Danny away. When tragedy occurs, Danny leaves the band and returns a completely different person. He’s no longer that sweet Danny, He’s now Daniel, cold and unfeeling and bent on revenge (of sorts). He wants to destroy Saint utterly and completely. This was smoking hot and steamy, sooo freaking fantastic!! Loved Drake as the “band mom” so funny! I loved how we got see how all the relationships have progressed from the whole series. I’m voluntarily reviewing from an advanced copy that I received.

Delicious!

Saint and Daniel's story was just as delicious as the previous stories in this crazy, dramatic, heated, lustful, passionate, entertaining series. Boy, I wish there were more. But, I do believe this is the last installment. And let me just say this series was one Helluva ride. Their story was written with all the flare we all come to expect in this series. My heart went out to these two beautifully broken characters. Their story had depth. Nothing was sugar coated. Also, I loved how their story as well as the others included all the characters we come to love. I so recommend the entire series. Be prepare to blown away. ENJOY! 🪂

Revenge is multilayered sweetness. Omg! High anxiety, angsty love, hate and the whole enchilada. What an adrenaline rush of highs and lows. This read is sh*t storm of emotions, and I loved every second of it. I was in shock and awe and had buckets of empathy for Danny. I liked seeing Daniel and Saint get what each deserved and the growth was astounding. The role reversal and power exchange dynamics were a thing of beauty to witness. I cheered Daniel on in my mind !! I loved the twisty ending. More
sweet darkness please!!!! This author continues to surpass his previous works.

I'm sorry to say goodbye to this series- it's been a hell of a ride!

While this wasn't my favorite of the series, it still was a good, entertaining book. You can't help but feel for Danny - all his heartbreak and hurt and trauma. I wish we had seen greater character growth from Saint but sadly

Love seeing Dante, Cash, Raf, Chaz, Sterling and Drake in this book- this family may be crazy, but it's impossible to not love them!

Beautiful sexiness hell bent on destroying you!!!😍😏😈

Mesmerizing. Joel Abernathy sends you spiralling back into Dante Infernal's universe with dazzling pain! Danny's blind obsession with sexy Saint twists into such a beautiful mind f*** it leaves you bleeding all over the place! You just watch your heart plop onto the ground and pump out every drop! They are such vivid characters in a fully realized universe. The sexiness is never lost no matter which damaged couple turns out to be you favorite. Gorgeous sensuality thrives!!!😋 I highly recommend the whole series.😎😁

I loved this book,,the band is awesome but there is a bad break when Danny invites Adam back into his life and the band because Danny always wants to save his family but he doesn't realize it will screw up everything with Saint,,,now there are parts that are bad and they do get worst than Danny changes into someone i really didn't like until he finally realizes what he lost and what he gained,,,i read this book for the author for my honest opinion

Saving Saint was a nail biter and throwing things read for me. Saint did some horrible things and now Daniel is getting his revenge. It was an incredible story and the things each of them put the other through is quite amazing. To get to the end you have to have a roller coaster ride and it is all downhill.
I do recommend you read in order to get the most enjoyment.
I did receive an Arc for a review.

And They call it Puppy Love

This is one of the darker amongst the series as sweet vulnerable Danny is constantly taken for granted by band member Saint and his biological drug addicted brother Adam.
Lots of dangerous and emotional stuff goes on in this one, including massive changes for Danny that we don't see coming.
Another delayed HEA, trauma, sex, pup play, love and found family.

Joel Abernathy's Saving Saint is the fourth book in the Dante's Infernal series.  This is a heated friends to enemies to lovers story that is intense,, well written, and complex.  The dual point of view allows readers to dive into the inner thoughts, fears, hurts, emotions of these characters... we can really see the journey.  Amazing!

What an amazing read. OMG I thought I was going to cry through most of the book. I was so happy at the end that Danny and Saint finally found their way to each other without the hate and heartbreak and all the angst the two of them went through. It was truly a great book to read. I really hope to see more of these guys from Dante's Infernal. They still need a drummer after all. Lol.

Late to the show for this series but it was good.

Saint and Daniel were part of another band that was managed by Sterling. They were brought over to Dante infernal as extras. Kind of the same dynamic as Chaz and Rafael but a little different on how these two come together. Good ending for this series.

Can’t help but think this would have been more rewarding if they came into their sexual/relationship dynamic with Danny’s original personality still intact. I liked how Danny was a first and I felt like I lost touch with him. Not to mention he deserved to come into his own without having to change everything about him.

this started very good toxic and angsty, then it was a kidnap thriller murder mystery thingy, then it went back to being an angsty toxic goth band but now with a revenge plot, the dom/sub dynamic got reversed (loved that) with a humiliation kink (but like... with actual malice bc revenge, so it sad badly on my stomach) and.., idk how I feel

Saint y Danny ❤️
- Friends to Lovers
- Second Chance Love
- Dom/Master/Pup Relationship
- Changing Roles

Estos fueron lindos y estresante a la vez! Siento que le pasaron demasiadas cosas al pobre de Danny 😔 Pero el cambio de roles que tuvieron estos dos no los vi venir! 10/10 🔥

The book has a bit of everything. It's so fast paced that everything feels shallow. It lacks deep emotions. I expected hurt, deep betrayal, pain caused unintentionally towards one another between MCs but I didn't feel anything.

1) Have one toxic person,
2) add another toxic person.
3) Stir in some humiliation.
4) Mix in some sex.
5) Then allow all the characters to blend into one.
6) Once complete, top with the most atrocious English accent I've heard.

This story was a clearly not for me.
