Competing for a date with a handsome billionaire goes against everything she believes in, but now she has no choice.
Karlie Spencer quit college five years ago and rushed home to care for her two siblings when she found out her parents died in a plane crash. They became her main priority, leaving no time for a relationship.
When she loses her job, she auditions for a dating reality show and saw it only as a means of income until she found other work. She didn't count on falling for the billionaire bachelor, but when she looked beyond his arrogant demeanor, she saw a lonely man, hiding from pain.
A horrible accident haunted Drake Arnold, making him look to the show as a distraction from the thoughts that plagued him. He had no intention of getting into a real relationship with anyone, but then he met Karlie. It wasn’t until his feelings ran deep that he suddenly realized...she might not be able to accept his past.
Can he push through the pain to find a future with Karlie? Or will they both walk away at the end, knowing it was never meant to go anywhere?
Evangeline Kelly is the pen name I use to write contemporary Christian romance books. When I was a kid, I had two dreams. One was to work with at risk youth and the other was to write books. After pursuing my passion of working with foster children for over twenty years, I finally decided to pursue my childhood dream of writing.
I love a good book that draws you in and takes hold of your heart. When I write, I hope to show real life situations people go through and how God uses those situations to draw us closer to Himself.
I’ve witnessed suffering in my line of work, but I’ve also witnessed God’s redeeming love. A good Christian romance features both hardship and delight. My hope is that my stories not only entertain, but encourage, and most of all, that they bring glory and honor to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Can I just say how much I enjoy and appreciate this author's writing and books? I do. I always know when I pick up one of her books that I'm going to enjoy my time spent reading, I'm going to read about flawed characters who are trying to be better and aren't afraid to help others. I know that I'm going to read positive and happy and uplifting messages. I also know that I'm going to read a sweet development of friendship, healing and love story that is clean, witty, tender and that makes me smile. Isn't it wonderful when you find an author who writes in such a way that you know when you pick up their books you're going to become part of characters' worlds that leave you happy? I think so!!!
Karlie and Drake are two characters who work hard. They have struggles and sorrows. But they're trying. They find themselves part of a reality dating show through different circumstances. This reality tv show is geared towards families so the contestants know that there isn't any required PDA past hand holding, a hug or a kiss. And that's completely a-ok for these two. They aren't there to find love or anything else. Drake is bored and Karlie just wants the paycheck. But let me tell you, all bets are off when they first meet. Their banter is so fun! Karlie is as honest as it comes and doesn't take any guff from anyone. She's gonna keep Drake on his toes for this go 'round.
I laughed so much throughout this book. It just made me so happy. I really liked Karlie and Drake a lot. I liked them individually and as a couple. And let's just talk about the chemistry for a quick second. Loved it!!! You could feel it starting to brew in their first couple of interactions and it just kept growing and I loved it!
There are of course some hang ups and some struggles. I loved when they realized that they can't expect to solve all the problems and heal on their own. They need each other and their family and friends and God. Yes, this is a Christian Fiction novel. The ending was just super cute! Drake, you're a definite keeper!!!
Content: Clean. There is a situation of a man harassing a character, but the author resolves it in a good way and it doesn't go into a lot of detail. This is a Christian Fiction novel so there is talk of God, quoting some scriptures, the characters go to church and pray. It was done very well. If that's not your thing but you still might be interested in the book, you can still read the book and easily skim or skip those parts. But I enjoyed it.
I received a copy from the author. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.
So, I’ve seen Evangeline Kelly’s novels all over the Kindle store, but I’ve been hesitant to read them. And I really struggle with all the falling-in-love-with-billionaires/millionaires stories because they often fall short of reality and feel repetitive and similar. But there was something about Blind Date with a Billionaire Reality Star that called to me. I am so glad I purchased a copy of this novel cause this book is GOOD! I love that the characters are so relatable and endearing. Yes, Drake is a billionaire, but he’s normal. He has heartache and serious trauma from his teen years that he’s allowed to fester. He believes in God, but he’s put their relationship on the backburner because when you’re traumatized sometimes you don’t make the best choices. And Karlie is just wonderful. She is so strong and courageous. I appreciate how no matter what comes her way she minimally freaks out and then almost immediately switches mental gears to find solutions to her problems. I love that. I tend to get caught up in my negative mental loops, so I was a little envious of Karlie’s ability to get to the solutions stage of her issues so quickly and efficiently. I enjoyed how the relationship between Karlie and Drake blossoms from antagonism to friendship to love. The pacing of the romance is perfect and made my heart so happy! And I super love the Christian themes that run throughout the story. Really good, thought-provoking topics that anyone can relate to. All in all, Blind Date with a Billionaire Reality Star is a great story that I highly recommend. This is definitely a story you won’t want to miss. And now I’m going to go check out the rest of Evangeline Kelly’s canon.
I purchased a copy of this novel in eBook form from Amazon.com on March 21, 2022, in order to review. In no way has this influenced my review. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.
It has to be the best Romance that I have read in a long time!
The characters are fun, nice, kind. Well most of them. I didn't like the Reality Show execs.
And the storyline is just a good read! It is kind of a Cinderella story with a twist.
Drake the super hunky Billionaire isn't looking for a relationship. When he is approached by a friend to do a reality show he immediately says No! With an exclamation point! But as the concept of the show is presented to him he begins to think that there might be a chance he could just get through the next few months. All he had to do was keep his heart in tact and choose a date. Piece of cake.
And then there's Karlie when the idea is pitched to her by her bestie she is quick to say a resounding No!!!? With several eXclamation marks. But then she gets 'fired'.
With teenager siblings to provide for Karlie realizes that getting on the show will help her with finances till she can get a good job.
Not intending to 'Fall' for each other Drake and Karlie start the competition trying to stay away from each other.
But then Karlie crams a Rice Krispie treat into Drake's mouth and all thier plans go awry.
I really enjoyed the cooking scenes.
And, there was a fairy tale ending
Author Evangeline Kelly pens a Sweet Romance suitable for any audience.
I do not like those so-called reality dating shows so I was a bit unsure about this book but I really liked the previous books in this series, so I gave it a try. So glad I did. Karlie is an amazing person who has sacrificed everything to raise her younger siblings after their parents’ tragic death. Drake, the billionaire bachelor, is just doing the show for a distraction and to help a friend. He has no intention of falling for any of the contestants. He falls for Karlie who has no interest in romance either, only a paycheque. The author’s social work background comes shining through as she paints a vivid picture of what Karlie and her siblings are dealing with and how the guilt Drake is holding onto is stopping him from really living. The close friends and siblings are also wonderful people who help the couple to learn and grow. This is a heartwarming, uplifting Christian love story between two characters who know what is important in life and take the time to really get to know one another. It still manages to provide plenty of humour, teachable moments without being preachy and a feel-good ending.
I absolutely loved Blind Date with a Billionaire Reality Star! Honestly, from the title I didn't expect anything but a very light, fluffy read to pass a little time. I was so Wrong! Drake and Karlie, the main characters, are well developed. Karlie is a waitress caring for her younger siblings after her parents died. She is a loving and thoughtful older sister that places their needs over her own. Drake is a man haunted by an incident in his past and has let it push him away from God. Karlie's deep faith keeps her going. Evangeline Kelly weaves their faith seamlessly into the story. The plot has some twists and turns, but Drake and Karlie get their HEA. Kudos to Drake for bringing that about so brilliantly. I felt so good after reading this book; it's just one of those rather rare ones that is uplifting. I definitely want to read more from Ms. Kelly. I highly recommend it to readers of clean/wholesome romance and/or Christian romance. I received a complimentary copy. I wanted to write a review and tell you about this fantastic story, so you won't miss out.
I loved this story, because it wasn’t a Bachelor kind of show, since he was just picking someone for a date at the end. I loved their banter! Fabulous story! There are drug references, but it’s in a “Don’t do it, it’s terrible for you” kind of way.
O LOVE this author. The story has a lot of twists and turns. I couldn't predict any of the outcome. I love the bits of Scripture that she strategically places so that God's will shines in the circumstances.
This is a great sweet romance. It is clean, has good dialogue, and romance. There is a very human element that endears the characters to you. It is also a Christian novel dealing with drawing closer to Christ and learning to forgive and trust.
The premise or trope for this book was good. But the religious BS that was in the book ruined it. I can't stand reading characters prayers to God. Or listen to the sunday sermon with them. I may not read anything else by this author because of this. Seriously, it's too much. And it's all over the book so it's hard to ignore. No where in the book description did it say it was an inspirational romance so there was no warning.
Evangeline Kelly finishes her Blind Date Disasters series strong with Billionaire Reality Star. Drake Armstrong, a billionaire who's become one through inheriting and selling his family's business and investing the proceeds, consents to star in a "family friendly" dating show, "Who Wants to Date a Billionaire?", because he's bored. It might also distract him from the pain of a terrible secret from his past, but he won't admit that to just anyone. He's just going to grit through filming, pick a woman to ask on a date, and continue living his boring, lonely life. He's definitely not looking for a relationship.
Who Wants to Date a Billionaire? Not Karlie Spencer. A diner waitress, she's too busy trying to make ends meet for herself and her younger siblings since their parents' sudden death five years earlier. When she's fired for spilling water on a customer who won't stop harassing her co-worker, she reluctantly allows her friend Abby to recruit her to audition for a reality dating show. Convinced she won't be chosen, she agrees because it's paid by episode, and the longer she stays the more money she'll make. She's worried that Child Protective Services will move her teenage brother and sister into foster care if she doesn't have a steady income, and being paid per episode equates, in her mind, to a temporary job. She plans to look for something permanent while she's killing time on the show. She his no plans for a relationship either. Then she meets Drake.
Their meeting, which could qualify as a blind date, begins disastrously when Drake, who's been clearly uninterested in talking to her, suddenly turns on the charm during their introductory conversation, which doubles as an audition to test their chemistry. Much to her surprise, Karlie is chosen, but it's easy for her to understand because she knows Abby's cousin is co-producing the show.
After the first episode, which is also disastrous and ends with Karlie shoving a rice crispy treat into Drake's mouth, Karlie talks the producers into allowing Abby to stay on the show. (They had wanted Drake to cut her in his first group of discarded potential dates.) Drake keeps not only Abby but Karlie as well. Apparently, he was intrigued by their initial conversation and even more by the rice crispy treat incident.
As time goes by and the episodes pass, Drake and Karlie draw closer, but each one keeps a distance for personal reasons: Drake doesn't want to reveal his secret for fear of losing Karlie, and Karlie doesn't want to distract herself from her siblings for fear of losing her remaining family.
Drake makes his feelings clear by selecting Karlie for a "dream date" of her description: going to a place that means something to him. He takes her to his childhood treehouse, and after the cameraman leaves, they discuss faith. She's very committed, while his trauma has drawn him away from the Lord. He wants to get back, however, and Karlie is relieved because she had decided to stop things if he wasn't in a solid relationship with God. This is where Kelly's trademark Bible verses first appear. Drake, despite being adamant about not kissing anyone until he's decided which contestant to date, kisses Karlie in that treehouse, and it's not even halfway through the book! There's trouble ahead for sure.
In a race challenge, another contestant's friend trips Karlie and the culprit is ordered to leave the show. Karlie has a sprained ankle and the producers want to cut her, but Drake insists that she stay and challenges the production staff to create non-physical challenges so that Karlie can participate. The women play a trivia game and enter a cooking contest, which Karlie and her partner Abby win.
The prize, a yacht cruise, starts out with a misunderstanding (not a disaster!) when Abby asks Karlie to give her more time with Drake and Drake thinks Karlie regrets the treehouse kiss and is pulling away. More misunderstandings occur in which one thinks the other is no longer interested, but they are really trying to protect themselves and each other...Drake protecting Karlie from his painful secret and Karlie protecting Drake from her family drama as her siblings withdraw from her for different reasons.
Eventually, all issues are cleared up. Drake reads his Bible; Karlie tries to take a leave of absence when her sister is in a car accident and the producers ask her to quit voluntarily, offering a generous bonus to get her to sign the papers. By then it's too late... Karlie and Drake are in love, and he's been attending her church against the "no fraternizing outside the show" rule. He has also confessed his secret... he blames himself for a fatal accident caused by a seizure, which makes no difference to Karlie. And Karlie's siblings tell her that putting 100% attention on them makes her a helicopter, not a loving sister. So both are free to pursue a relationship. On a surprise final episode at Karlie's, Drake proposes and Karlie accepts.
Blind Date with a Billionaire Reality Star is another good story from Evangeline Kelly. This story is about a reality date show but Drake has made a statement that he is not interested in any woman. They are hiring 40 women to start the show. Karlie was told by her best friend Abby that they had openings on the show and they went to see if they could get hired on. Both were hired and on the 5 minute blind date with Drake he found that Karlie was a spitfire and didn't swoon like the other girls and held up her end of the conversation. After that Drake kept his eye out for Karlie.
Karlie was a 24 year old woman that had been raising her two siblings for the last 5 years. She had no interest in dating as she feared she could not let her guard down with her siblings. She had dropped out of college and had been a waitress to pay their bills but had got fired for stopping a man from harassing the other waitress. The child services showed up at her house that very day saying she had been reported as not feeding her siblings which she found out was wrong. The siblings talked to the woman and she said she was satisfied and would close the complaint till she asked where Karlie worked and then she said they would leave the complaint open. Since she had not had any responses to her applications she accepted the part in the show. Drake and Karlie might have both started out as just playing the game with no intention of any commitment but both found that their hearts needed someone to share life with.

Blind Date with a Billionaire Reality Star by Evangeline Kelly is a wonderful, sweet, clean and uplifting story that will warm you heart. It will keep you entertained and turning pages. When you are finished, you will have a happy feeling because that's what this book will do. Karlie is the legal guardian for her two younger siblings as a result of their parent's untimely death. She left college so that she could keep the family together. When she is fired from her waitress job, she is talked into auditioning for a reality show to try to win a date with a billionaire. Drake is reluctant to become a reality star, but he is bored and he has something in his past that he cannot forgive or forget.
These two characters are unlikely matches, but the plot is well developed and enjoyable to read. I received an advance reader copy of this book and I always review every book that I read. I loved the characters and their interaction with each other. I highly recommend this book. It is a feel good type of book.
This was such an emotional rollercoaster new book in the Blind Date Disasters series by Evangeline Kelly. Drake is a tortured man with a tragic and guilt ridden past. Karlie is a young woman struggling to raise her younger siblings. What begins as indifference and tolerance soon becomes a friendship and something neither can ignore. Evangeline Kelly creates beautiful stories with so much emotion and heart as well as messages that are Christ centered. Drake and Karlie’s story of forgiveness, healing, the power of prayer, and coming back to Christ will resonate with readers and touch their hearts long after the story is finished. I loved the spiritual journey that Drake and Karlie had to go through on their own-with divine help- in order to become the person the other needed and Heavenly Father needed them to become. I loved this book and can’t wait to read more from Evangeline Kelly. “I voluntarily reviewed an ARC copy of this book.”
This story had me laughing in bed in the wee hours of the morning! An excellent addition to this endearing series by MS. Kelly. This story of Drake and Karlie is unbelievable and will push all the right buttons as you follow along in this fantastic storyline. I just felt good as I read and ultimately completed this touching, feel good, Christian romance. I am not a a fan of reality shows of any type so this was a welcome surprise. Drake has lost his faith, but if he wants to pursue a relationship with Karlie he must face his past and put it behind him. The author does a beautiful job of weaving their faith throughout the story without being preachy. A very uplifting book that just leaves you happy.
I received an ARC copy of this book. However, this is my voluntary, honest, and completely personal review. VICKI FROM WYOMING

Another excellent, heartwarming, well-written Blind date story. Very likeable characters with realistic inspirational elements. Love Drake's determination and hats off to Karlie, she is humble, selfless and compassionate. I love how they conversate and gently contrast, it's brings revelations to their character traits. I'm not a fan of reality shows but I think this story is a perfect example of how they really should be in order to convert me into becoming a number one fan of them. This definitely jumps all the hurdles I seek when reading romance and proves that the genre can produce well written clean romance stories that are wholesome and fulfilling. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Enjoyed Drake and Karlie's story. Drake had been alone for years. With no family, he decided to do a reality show just for fun. Karlie had lost her parents while she was in college and took over the care of her two younger siblings. Having lost her job and child services snooping around, she decided to tryout for a reality show her friend told her about. I laughed throughout the reading of this book. Drake and Karlie had sparks flying in their first meeting. And be warned, the rice crispy treat scene is not to be read in bed. I woke my hubby and he was not happy. If you like clean, fun books, I highly recommend 'Blind Date with a Billionaire Reality Star'. I received this book from the publisher. The thoughts and comments are my own.
This story kept the standard I expect from Evangeline Kelly, contemporary Christian fiction at its best. I could hardly put it down. As soon as I was able to get this story, I started it and finished rather quickly. Karlie has a hard life, she has to work to provide for her younger siblings. Life gets hard and she loses her job, and has to find something else. So she applies to be on a reality show. She is surprised to make it on the show. Drake, the star of the reality show, has had a difficult life too, but in different ways. He is a Christian though and stands by his Christian principles. This was a story that made me cry and laugh. I loved it because it shows the wonderful love of Christ. I highly recommend it.
Everything about this was predictable, from why he was beating himself up about a relationship to her sister and brother. They are teenagers, so... But I loved it just the same and I couldn't put it down! Once I realized that it was past 3am after starting the book, I groaned because I still had about an hour to go. Now I enjoyed the end of the story outside on a beautiful day, making for an even better ending. There could have been a bit more drama with Taylor and her "girls" but he was already struggling with Rebecca and Thomas. I thought for a moment the cigarette butts would be someone from the studio because that would have caused some more trouble. This was still good though.
This is the story about Karlie and Drake, two people who are on a dating reality show Both are dealing with loss in their lives but handling differently I like the way Evangeline brings God into her stories and lets the reader see how the hand of God works and His fate in their lives if we let him Drake had to learn how to let go and turn back to God to be set free so he could love Katie and she had to learn how to trust God that He could that care of her siblings This was a great story and one you will enjoy if you are looking for a clean Christian based book to fill your day with Evangeline never disappoints Get your copy today
Very good light read. There is character development but it does not go too deep. I liked that there was some angst w the main characters but the Author did not go too far where it dragged out. The Author actually did a great job w the character development with this genre. I loved the Christian undertones. The main character was like-able. I really liked how the Author did not allow the main character to have too much of a Marty complex. I would definitely recommend if u are looking to escape reality for a few hours or are looking for a light clean read while trying to fall asleep.
This is a sweet story with a lot of great characters. There are 2 people in charge of the reality show-one is a complete jerk, the woman seemed really nice at first, then seemed to go against character. Karlie was working in a restaurant to support her brother and sister and her boss is a real piece of work. One customer is always grabbing the girls and, when Karlie stands up to the bully while trying to help her coworker, her boss acts understanding but fires Karlie. Karlie didn't want to go on the reality show but needed the money. Drake and Karlie are great together, each having their own past tragedies. I loved seeing how they interacted and became close.
I liked that neither the H or h went into the reality show with dreams of love. I also liked a twist toward the end of the book. I totally didn't see it coming. But I did feel like I would have liked Carlys worth reiterated somehow. The producer called Thomas said she wasn't going any where in her life. Maybe a bit of gentle in his face would have been nice. Otherwise ot was a pleasant read with just a dash of drama. But not enough to bother me really, I'd still call this a low angst read. Fyi trigger warning anyone who has caused or been in a traumatic car wreck might want to avoid this one. The story ends well and has a HEA.
A heartwarming and beautiful story. I enjoyed reading this contemporary romance. Karlie Spencer's life changed when an accident took her parents and she stepped in to raises her siblings. Now five years later her life is changing again. Drake Arnold the hero of the piece is a troubled and lonely soul the only question can he let love into his life. Set within the idea of a game show this storyline was different and really good. I cannot recommend this faith-based gem higher it is a five-star++. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
Karlie is guardian of her younger brother and sister She also has lost her job as a waitress. Drake is a bored billionaire harboring a secret from his youth. Drake has decided to become the next bachelor on reality television looking for a date. Karlie’s friend convinces her to go on the show since it pays well. Can Drake learn to forgive himself for his past? Can Karlie open herself up to having a relationship? Read the book and find out.
Joyful Read “Only the Lord could bring true inner joy.” I haven’t expected to like this story so much! Funny and full of emotion at the same time. “He never promised life would be easy. He only promised to walk through the trials with us, and that there will be a reward in heaven for those who believe and endure to the end.” “My relationship with Him has been restored, and I feel like He’s bringing us into a new season of life. One where grief and loss take a back seat and joy and peace and laughter are front and center.”
Each of the main characters are dealing with grief from the past & balance in their current lives. The H blames himself & the h is protecting her younger siblings (the only remaining family). Each agrees to be on a televised dating show. The h sees it as a job to fill in until she can find another job. She stands out from the others with her snarky attitude as she needs the paycheck till she can find another job. Each contestant has their own agenda as well as the producers who want high ratings, so there are conflicts.
Guilt ridden Drake needs a distraction and being the main character in a dating show it just what he thinks he needs, not for a relationship but a date with a billionaire. After been sacked Karlie has problems to find a new job to take care of her siblings. Love wasn’t in both their plans but that’s just what happened. But will it be enough for a HEA? Really entertaining Christian story with very likable characters.
Blind Date With a Billionaire Reality Star is a clean, heartwarming romance. I have loved all the books in this series. This one just may be my favorite. Karlie is awesome and a fearless champion for her younger siblings. Drake is looking for a distraction to hide from his haunted past. While I do not like reality TV, the show in this book seems headed in the right direction. I loved watching the connection between Drake and Karlie develop and could not put the book down!
Jesus fucking christ. 7% in and can tell it's going to be a DNF. I don't do Christian books, as they're not only very droll, but Christian writers seem to PUSH their beliefs onto everyone, not to mention there's typically no steam. So, by 7% in, the author has already mentioned their religion, "Him", "god", a couple times, so we already know it's going to be one of those books. Doing a quick search, she writes "god" 21 times, and the context is speaking about the bible. So, yup, DNF @ 7% in...
So entertaining without being cheesy. It has love, laughter, and God. Most people go overboard with the gospel, making the story get lost among the sermon. Other s downplay the holy word so it seems an afterthought. This was just right proving faith and romance can go exist in every day life. Thanks for explaining how to live in today's society and still be true to our God and faith.
