Stolen Brides of the Fae #4

Stolen Shadow Bride

Rate this book
A desperate sister. A cold Fae prince. A dangerous trick, and a spark of passion that might set a fragile peace ablaze…
Sephia has always known that her younger sister was destined to wed the prince of the Sun Court.

Long ago, the human kingdom of Middlemage struck a bargain with the neighboring Fae that resulted in peace between them. As part of that bargain, one of the two ruling Fae courts lay claim to a human bride from each new generation. As long as anyone can remember, this is how it has been: The Fae come to take their bride on her eighteenth birthday, the humans allow one to be stolen away, and the peace continues.

Until now.

Until the Sun Prince comes for her sister, and Sephia does the unthinkable: She disguises herself with magic and goes to the altar in her sister’s place.

And she doesn’t intend for her marriage to end happily ever after.

But Sephia soon finds that all is not as it seems within the cruel and sparkling Court of the Sun. The king is sick. Strange shadows paint the halls of his palace, leaving death in their wake. The prince is desperate to find answers, whatever the cost. And Sephia is the wrong bride, but she may be the right woman to help the prince save his world—

That is, if they can somehow find a way to work together... while ignoring the forbidden passion igniting between them.

These days, her personal favorite places to procrastinate are in the mountains near her North Carolina home, in the company of her husband, their daughter, and their very spoiled dog.

This was a good read, but not as good as the other two I’ve read in this series (Stolen Midsummer Bride and Stolen Thorn Bride). The characters were fun, and I loved the king. Getting to see the contrast between the Sun Court and the Shadow Court was a lot of fun, and the climax was golden!

However, with it being labeled “clean”, there was a scene that was NEARLY too close to consider it clean in my mind. Nothing happened, as the characters stopped themselves before they did anything. They were only considered engaged in that scene, and I just didn’t feel comfortable reading it.

Besides that, there were a handful of d**n and b******d, which in a fae world, seemed a little out of place.

Honestly, if you’re looking for books along Tara Grayce’s style, I’d skip this one. It felt like a let down after Tara’s and Kenley’s delightful reads.

This book is such a fun take on the stolen human bride/arranged marriage to a fae trope!

Sephia and Tarron have such an opposites attract chemistry, and I loved their building relationship as they go from enemies to lovers. And Devon, Tarron's brother, was my FAVORITE character. He stole the show with his banter with Tarron! Seriously, the banter was the BEST!!!

Dnf because of the sexual content. It wasn't explicit, but it went too far for me and I was uncomfortable with it. Also the princess being in control of the shadowy beings or whatever, bothered me.

(4,5 ☆)

I loved practically everything in this book! The characters, the worldbuilding, the interactions between Sephia and her bethrothed, prince Tarron, as well as the banter between the prince and his brother, the king. Not to forget Ketzal, a birdlike griffin who loves his sweets and don't have any manners!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Stolen Shadow Bride, and the only thing I really have to complain about is that the ending felt a bit rushed. I wanted MORE, and I would have liked to know what Tarron actually thought about Sephia's real appearence (she was magically disguised as her sister until the end). I would also have loved to know more about both the shadow and the sun magic. S.M. Gaither, how about another book?! Perhaps featuring king Deven and Nora? 😉

This is the fourth book in a series, but they're all stand alones, written by different authors. Since I'm part of Gaither's ARC team I received a free copy of the book to read and review.

This book was chef's kiss good 🤌🏻🧑‍🍳
One can only wish books like this were a little bit more longer to delve into its potential development but I happily accept this short as it is.

Enjoyable, but there is a recurring problem in these shorter stories. They are just too short.

description

Fantasy can be a hard genre to do quickly. I mean there is usually this epic world and a dark foe and a grand adventure. Trying to put all of that into less than 200 pages can just make the book feel rushed. Add into that, that these books focus on romance. It just feels like the relationships come out of nowhere. There is no real buildup.

Don't get me wrong, I am loving these books. But they feel like outlines or novellas to big fantasy series. (Which for many I would love to read).

Stolen Shadow Bride definitely fell under this problem. The setup was grand but everything resolved so quickly and the romance was just like "bam" I blinked and they were in love.

The story was really interesting. It is just hard to compress it into under 200 pages. But still enjoyable. It just makes me kind of want to read a whole series of it instead.

*Note: I read this series however I do not personally recommend it due to magic.

Not a favorite of the series and quite intensely romantic, I guess.

A quick, easy read.
I’m giving it an “okay” rating because I felt like some aspects of the novel were rushed or not adequately developed.

But first, the positives:

I liked the main characters.
I liked the idea of the sun magic versus the shadow magic.
I liked the brotherly affection and banter, as well as the sisterly bond.
I liked the foundational concept of the twin daughter being promised to fae.
Great chemistry and kisses! I liked that he was so attracted to her.
The writing was fine.
Good pacing.

Some of the negatives:

The plot had some holes. (No spoilers here.) For instance, without giving too much info here, she never saw the shadows before going to the fae land, but she should have seen them in her own land. Her powers were just as much “tamped down” in the fae realm as they had been in the human realm. Another example- there would have been a huge fiasco in her land when her sister’s deception was revealed, but that was skipped entirely. Besides the holes, the entire concept wasn’t fully explored. What WAS her magic exactly? Were all shadows evil???? Was her magic just as “good” as sun magic? And what about the fact that he couldn’t access his magic without his Sun bride? Um, kind of a big deal and that was never addressed at the end. ?

The relationship was not entirely plausible. They have only known each other for like a week, and much of that time Tarron confessed he was avoiding her. Is that really enough time for them to develop the type of deep and abiding trust that would have been required for him to defy all of his kingdom, break tradition, and forgive treason? It was too unbelievable. I liked how they had chemistry between them, but the fact that she didn’t look like herself took away from that, because a lot of their attraction was physical... and it wasn’t HER outward self that he was becoming attracted to. Besides, wasn’t Nora supposed to be all wrinkly and prematurely aged? I didn’t feel like he knew her well enough to fall in love with her entirely on her personality so it had to have been partly on physical attraction, but she wasn’t beautiful so.... i guess what I’m saying is, I wasn’t convinced. How did he fall in love with her that fast? It had to be some seriously deep love because everything she told him about herself was a lie. It would have required a lot of foundation to their relationship to really overcome that. And I don’t think the book developed it enough to make that believable. I would consider this the fatal flaw.

The chemistry between them was great, like I said, but she was the one that instigated every kiss (by inviting him to kiss her). The fact that she was deceiving him this entire time made her pursuing of him a little cringy, like she was manipulating him. If the other weak aspects of the book weren’t there, I probably could have been able to overlook this...

It seemed strange when they were willing to have sex before the actual wedding. I just didn’t expect that since their culture seemed to be old fashioned and traditional. (FYI- her conscious kicked in and she stopped them. Besides the fact that they weren’t married yet, i was glad she stopped them from progressing further because it would have been creepy if it wasn’t even her own body she was sharing with him.)

I was looking forward to him discovering her real looks, but that was skipped over entirely.

All in all, the negative aspects detracted enough from the book that I would say it was just okay.

Content:
Language- no swearing.
Sex- some making out. One scene when he undid her shirt partway, but I didn’t find it offensive or crude.
Violence- none
Cover- i don’t like it, tbh.
I read this in one day on Kindle Unlimited

(I haven’t read books 1-3. I started with this one.)

Enjoyed it as a novella-length fantasy romance! I was mostly looking forward to reading this one because I want to read S.M. Gaither's other books and this was a great way to get a taste of her style. Conclusion: I'm definitely excited to jump into her longer, more "epic" and steamy stuff! Hopefully I can make that happen soon!

I still think book two in this series (Stolen Mage Bride by Sylvia Mercedes) is my favorite thus far, but this one was also good and I'm excited to see how I like the next 4 in the series!

Sephia has shadow magic while her twin has sun magic. Leonora is destined to marry the fae prince to seal the centuries-old bargain. But Leonora is sick and Sephia cannot let her go with the monstrous fae, so they switch places. Her mission is jeopardized when she finds herself falling for the prince. Further complications arise as someone is targetting the Sun kingdom and Sephora is thrown in the middle of it.

This was an enjoyable read with magic and mystery. The plot is common, but the execution was great with a few twists that kept me hooked.
The characters are well-written and even though I found Tarron a bit annoying in the beginning, I warmed up to him eventually. My favorite would have to be Deven. He was a supporting character, and despite not having a major part in the story, I liked his carefree attitude and ability to see the good in people.
The book has the enemies to lovers trope, which is my favorite. The romance started a bit slow but felt a bit rushed after a point. Since it's a novella, I'm willing to overlook that part.
I would have liked a little more conflict in the end, but I was satisfied with the outcome.
Overall, the book was a great addition to the series and I recommend it to all fantasy romance lovers.

My favorite in the series thus far. The story was engaging, fast paced but not rushed and the characters were very likeable and relatable. While I enjoyed Tarron & Sephia’s dialogues, Tarron & Deven’s banters were outstanding. It was easy to see that he and his brother had a great relationship. The premise was interesting and I’m so happy this book delivered.

This is the fourth in an eight book “series”. It isn’t a series so much as a collection of standalones tied together by the stolen bride trope. I’ve read two of them, Stolen Threadwitch Bride, and this one. They are steam free (unless kissing counts as steam for you) fantasy romances.
I don’t usually pick up shorter books, I enjoy immersing in a big tome of a novel. But these are really great for busting up a reading slump, and they are uncomplicated enough that I can read them in bits and pieces as I do kid related things. I was drawn to this one because of the sister sacrifice bit, and I enjoyed it. I’ve never read S. M. Gaither before, but I’ll definitely be checking out more of her work.

This was a great romance book, however, like the other book in this series that I read, the romance and the ending felt rushed because of how short the book is.
The character building was great, as was the world building, but I really wish we could have had more from this book.
Short and sweet. That's it.

The story was interesting. Because is was short, the author didn't deal with certain things that would have been handled if it had been real life or at least a longer book. But overall, the story was fine.

Warning: I would not let a younger teen read this book!
There is a scene where the making out goes too far! There is a lot of wandering hands in one kiss scene. He then unties her shirt and then takes her to his bed!!! Although nothing happens, this is far more than what should be have happened in a nice "clean" read. When I see the words "clean read," I hope that when I read it, it would be clean enough to maybe hand over to a thirteen year old. But I would not do that with this one!! Now, if you were an adult, then there's no problem with reading this story. Except that some might be disgusted that this scene is even in here at all!!

Maybe I’m not in the mood. But I think this book was more monologue than action, so the pace was pretty slow. I got 65% through and not much changed from when I was 30% through. I’m curious how it ends though.

I really enjoyed this short Fae novel. Finishing this has encouraged me to read the 7 other books, all written by Romance Fantasy Authors.

This is the first book of S.M. Gaither, I have read and the great detail of the characters emotions and thoughts helped me gravitate to her writing and other books shes has written.

Very good!!! Sephia and Tarron are a mismatch match made in heaven! I enjoyed their personalities and their sweet little moments (like the cooking and him taking care of her). Ketzal is a a hoot and seems fun (and comforting) to have around. I liked that even though all her life, Sephia felt like a dark chaotic thing; she didn’t really let that come to fruition or listen to what others said or thought, she still always wanted to look out for Nora and still was profoundly caring.
The writing was excellent and the characters and world building were phenomenal. I actually wish there was a second part to this story. Or more on what happened to Nora when Sephia left.
This story ends in a happily ever after.

So good!

This one is more inside the royal palace with the finer intricacies of court and needing to tread carefully because of treaties and the threat of war. I really like how well done this was. The characters were real and highly devoted to their siblings. I love the banter and relationship between the brothers and the stories of the sisters growing up.

I really hope this doesn’t remain a standalone. I would love more of this world, especially the siblings stories. I was intrigued by the shadow magic and sun magic and would love to see that fleshed out more in further stories. Great world building.

Clean read but with potential for extreme steam since chemistry between the prince and princess is genuine and hot.

I devoured Stolen Shadow Bride in one sitting! The chemistry between Sephia and Tarron just leaps off the page and keeps you turning the page. While this is a love story between two characters who would do anything for their siblings, it is filled with magic and a bit of mystery. I wish this was a full length novel because I did not want to leave this world.

If you are looking for a lighthearted, magical love story that will have you smiling then make sure to pick up Stolen Shadow Bride.

Two sisters, one promised as a sacrifice to be wed to a fae prince, the other determined to take her place. Sephia will do whatever it takes to protect her twin sister Nora, even if it means disguising herself as her sister to enter into a marriage alliance with the handsome yet hostile prince of the Sun Court.

Pretty underwhelming, to be honest. The romance moved too quickly, and I didn't really get how they went from being argumentative to being in love, especially when it seemed mostly motivated by how hot the fae man was. There was potential that didn't get explored, esp with regards to the politics of the Sun and Shadow courts, and I know that this is meant to be a short novella, but I felt that there was a lot of wasted potential.

Shadows and Monsters

Reader’s Notes:

– this is part of a series, but meant to be read as a stand-alone

– this is told from Sephia and Tarron’s points of view

– there is a scene where both characters are no longer wearing shirts (only description of the guy’s looks) and it looks like they are going to lead up to an on page sex scene, but stop before they get closer to that point (as in no other clothing is removed and they talk about not going further)

Review:

I removed a star because of my last point above as I am not a fan of scenes like that. However, I did enjoy this author’s writing style and the overall story she created for these characters! I loved that Sephia wanted to protect her sister from someone she believed would hurt her by taking her place. I loved watching Tarron fall for Sephia’s character and personality. I really liked that we started off with Sephia’s point of view over Tarron’s as it helped turn me against him from the get-go and slowly change my thoughts/feelings on him over time as Sephia learned more about him (and as I found out more of his perspective/situation). I loved the little griffin that pestered Sephia for food and how he fit into their relationship throughout. He was so cute! 😍 And I loved that we didn’t get all the answers as to what was going on straight away as it made me wonder what was happening in the shadows. My favorite scenes in this story was when they cooked breakfast together and when Tarron watched over Sephia after she passed out.

Long ago a treaty was made to end war between the two fae courts and the human kingdom. Each generation, a set of twin girls would be born to the human rulers. The older to stay and rule, the younger to be stolen away by one of the fae courts. This year the Sun court will be coming for a princess. But the older twin is determined to save her sister from this fate, so she goes disguised in her place. Sephia will not see her sister die at the hands of the ruthless fae, but she will try to take their prince’s life before he can take hers to break the cycle and keep both herself and her sister safe from harm or repercussion. As long as she isn’t caught…

Tarron has lost much in his life and is determined not to lose more, whether it be his brother or his bride to be. He thought he could close his heart off from a future hurt if he could push her away, but the woman keeps getting past his defenses in the most unexpected ways. And now he doesn’t want her to stop, but now he needs to worry even more about the shadows plaguing the court and the two most important people to him.

But when Sephia’s secret becomes known, how will Tarron react to the deception? And what will happen to Sephia as she spends more time around Tarron and learns that her preconceived thoughts about him are wrong?

A princess with shadow magic, a prince of the opposite court and a nefarious plot they must uncover... I mean, seriously... who wouldn't want to read a book like that??

Worldbuilding:
Right from the start, we get a good lay of the land, we know what is happening and why it is happening (even though Sephia doesn't agree with it). While it might be a lot of information to have at the start of the book it never felt too much. There wasn't an information dump, but we learned of it in a slow and steady way. The scenes and environments were always clear and well detailed.
All the elements that make up the book fit together like a perfect puzzle, there was a synergy across the board and it all made sense (which, I know, is pretty hard to master).

Character development:
Sephia would do anything for her ailing sister, so marrying the Fae prince was only logical. I must say that this was actually pretty refreshing :) Maybe I've been reading the wrong books, but normally sisters don't really get along or would go to such lengths to protect them. Sephia has her heart in the right place, even when she is living in the Sun Court, where everyone is looking and judging her and she has to maintain the ruse of being her sister. Which is not easy when Tarron, our broody Sun prince, gets under her skin ;)
Tarron hasn't had an easy life and sees the marriage to Sephia as a necessary evil while battling an invisible enemy trying to keep his brother safe.
Ahhh Fate is such a wonderful thing (sometimes) :D
They each started their journey with their own misconceptions about the other and how things should be. Slowly but steadily you see them grow, not only towards each other, but they find their inner strength.
All the characters felt real and believable. There were well fleshed out and you really feel you are walking alongside them during their story.

Pacing & flow:
It was a very easy read, it was smooth from start to finish and held my attention like there was no work in the morning :D
The conversations were never dull or too long, the action scenes were well thought out and interesting.
All in all, great job keeping me hooked!

The book:
The book itself was well written with no (noticeable) errors.
It is 183 pages long, spread over 17 chapters and told mostly from Sephia's point of view.

Final thoughts:
You know that you've read a good book when you close it and sigh, a happy but also sad smile on your face because you wish there was more to read.
I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book and I thought it was great! I really enjoyed the vibe and the characters :D
I haven't read any of the other books in this series yet (by other authors), but I hope they are just as good. Recommended!

𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 : 𝟰,𝟱 ⭐️/𝟱

Stolen Shadow Bride is the 4th book in a series, but they are all standalone, written by different authors and can be enjoyed on their own.
I had the pleasure to receive the eARC by the author. My review is not influenced and is my own.

« 𝙏𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙤𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙬𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙩𝙬𝙤 𝙥𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙘𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙚𝙨 𝙬𝙝𝙚𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙤𝙣𝙡𝙮 𝙨𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙 𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙗𝙚𝙣 𝙤𝙣𝙚. »

This short novella was a pleasant surprise. When I first read the synopsis, I was really intrigued by the story. A human girl forced to marry a Fae prince but she’s taking her sister’s place? Perfect !
The cover is also absolutely gorgeous ! It reminded me of Lucien from ACOTAR !

« 𝙃𝙚 𝙬𝙖𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙪𝙣, 𝙗𝙪𝙩 𝙝𝙚 𝙬𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙗𝙚 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙞𝙣 𝙨𝙥𝙞𝙩𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙨𝙝𝙖𝙙𝙤𝙬𝙨. »

Stolen Shadow Bride is my second novel that I’ve read from this author, and it really confirms the talent of storytelling of S.M Gaither. I enjoyed the two POVS from the main characters : Sephia and Prince Tarron. The slowburn but undeniable attraction and chemistry between those two was truly enjoyable. The cooking scene was so funny and heartwarming.

I also enjoyed the others supportive characters that adds a little « je-ne-sais-quoi » to the story. Ketzal, the little Griffin pet, was awesome and made me want to have one for myself.
The bond that Tarron shares with his older brother, King Deven, is full of banter and camaraderie.

« 𝙇𝙤𝙫𝙚 𝙘𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙 𝙢𝙖𝙠𝙚 𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙛𝙖𝙘𝙚 𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙙𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙧𝙞𝙛𝙮𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙨, 𝙨𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙪𝙥𝙥𝙤𝙨𝙚𝙙. 𝙁𝙤𝙧 𝙗𝙚𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙤𝙧 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙨𝙚. »

The strong point of this novella beside the storytelling is the world building created by the author. The magic and the backstory was amazing but I would have loved a full novel to fully explore it.

As I said before, this need to be a full novel : it is so good, we need more ! I can understand the novella format but because of it, I felt that some scenes and the ending were a little bit rushed. Which is a pity because you can see the tremendous potential in this story with very good world building - as I said before - and some great characters that really need to be explore more. For example, the sun and shadow magic, or the Shadow Court.

I truly hope that the author would think about a full novel about this story or a sequel ?

In Short...

A novella that offers a unique blend of romance, fantasy, humor and banter. This is a great fell good novella with a happy ending that will finds its audience easily.

You know what? I’m making this four stars because I’m choosing not to be petty about the fact that it took me so long to finish this book

So at first, I was like this girl is probably the ‘special girlie who’s an outcast for no good reason’ which thankfully wasn’t the case. Her relationship with her sister was so amazing and even though she didn’t let those comments get to her she didn’t just have this nonchalant vibe a lot of characters where they don’t care about. I loved her selection of hobbies, especially because that generally tells you a lot about a character and makes them more relatable.

The way that they made her an outcast became more reasonable the further we read because it showed how dangerous and cruel shadow magic can be, and how evil a lot of the people who are higher up in the system are

I also love how the guy wasn’t just grumpy for the sake of it, but he had like a genuine relation to the grief he felt when his parents died. It makes me so happy that he has some very good political insight and honestly would make a great king, but he’s not power-hungry like the other politically savvy princes.

The relationship between the two brothers and how they supported each other was chef’s kiss, and I got love his teasing because sometimes you need someone around you to make you smile.

This is a standalone romance, so it’s not a surprise that it was bordering on inta-love, but I do enjoy when authors sort of at least don’t fully give into it and also try to show that the characters also find it strange but things like this do happen. The writing was well done and it was very fun to read. I was squealing the entire time because this girl is living my dream and even though she’s pretending that she doesn’t like it/actually doesn’t like it, I still got to live vicariously through her because there were actual blanket statements in a way that didn’t sound too, modern or reader perspective.

The middle part kind of dragged a bit and it could’ve been filled with more stuff so not too happy about that and I’m sort of disappointed that she hasn’t expanded on this because honestly, I would love the idea of the Shadow Lord, having a brother of sorts who is more moral and wants to push forward with alliances and peaceful ideas that show that dark magic isn’t all bad.

Once there were two princesses, Sephia and her twin sister Nora who was marked by the sun whilst she was marked by shadow and according to a treaty which had been drawn between the human realm and that of the fae one princess was destined to rule Middlemage whilst the other to be given to the fae in order to keep the peace between the two realms. The fae courts were also split into that of the east and the west one being Nocturne and the other Solturne. This year it was Solturne's turn to steal a bride however since Nora was weak and sickly Sephia who always looked out for her sister hatched a plan to deceive the Prince and go in the stead of her sister, fearing Nora could not cope in the realm of monsters. Sephia took on the look of Nora through a witch's spell and when Prince Tarron came she went with him but she also took all her preconceived ideas about the fae with her. She had been taught they were monsters and to be feared and Tarron acted as such for the first few days she arrived at the palace. However once they started to get to know one another Sephia found that she was forgetting her plan to kill Tarron and return home to Nora as she was falling in love with him and he was mellowing his rigid stance towards her too. However no relationship can be built on such deceit, and lies have a way of surfacing and Sephia found herself in dire trouble when she was found out. The sun court feared the shadows, they too had their own prejudices and as Deven, the King was ill through a shadow curse Sephia was in more trouble than ever! I love this tale of magic, of darkness and light, and the romance which proves that love conquers all! It is a feel good romantic novel between a human and a fae, a light creature and a dark who in the end balanced each other out, because there can be no light if there is no shadow! As always SM Gaither writes a very riveting tale with very strong and charismatic main characters and I fell in love with Ketzal.

“It doesn’t please me for you to call me my prince,” he said.
She stiffened. “We aren’t yet wed. I can’t call you ‘husband’.”
“You could call me by my name.”
“Is your false name so different from me calling you ‘my prince’? At least the latter is true enough.”
Chapter Four

.

As this quote proves, Sephia is a strong willed main character – just how I like them. Sephia knew she was destined to do whatever she needed to in order to save her sister. No. Matter. What.

Marry the fae prince that her sister is destined to? Why of course. Trick the entire human country that she was raised in? No contest. Fight the evil that she didn’t know was plaguing the fae lands? If she must. Fall in love with the very creature she’d sworn to destroy? If she must….

I loved watching her navigate the fae courts. Sure she might have been raised a human princess, but Sephia truly wasn’t raised to conquer the fae lands. Her sister was the one destined to be married into the role, after all. But Sephia’s love for her sister is strong enough to persevere. To do the unthinkable and trick the fae into accepting her. She’s not the sister they thought they were getting, but she’s certainly the sister they needed. Even if they didn’t know it.

This story certainly lines up with the kind of book I find myself seeking out when I make trips to the book store. The fae are a weakness of mine, in case that isn’t obvious by the amount of fae stories I read, and a strong willed female lead is the icing on the top of the cake. The idea of the Sun and the Shadow courts and an ancient bargain between humans and the fae is the exact thing that pulls me in.

I truly did enjoy my time in this story. I wouldn’t be surprised if I found myself reading something else by Gaither and enjoyed it. While I don’t currently have anything by her on my TBR, there’s always tomorrow.

☆☆☆☆,5 /5
