The Feeler: Discovering How Sensitivity Helps You Discern and Act on God's Voice

Rate this book
“James Goll is one of the most accurate prophets I know.”
—Sid Roth, It’s Supernatural!

The Scriptures give us a full-color picture of a God who is moved by emotions such as yearning, love, and compassion. Our human emotions reflect the emotional qualities of our Creator, who made us in His own image. Feelings have a vital place in any believer’s life, not just in those who have a more sensitive nature due to their personalities.

The Feeler by James W. Goll delivers a remarkable biblical perspective on our emotions and how they help us to discern and act on God’s voice. We experience the love, joy, and presence of God with our feelings. Our emotions have an impact on our bodies, our level of holiness, our relationships, and our decisions.

The Bible tells us we need to have our “senses trained to discern good and evil” (Hebrews 5:14 NASB). What are we training? Both our natural senses and our spiritual senses. Our physical senses, with the addition of “knowing,” correspond to our spiritual senses in these ways:
 Eyes (sight): visions and dreams
 Ears (hearing): voices and sounds
 Heart (touch): emotions and feelings
 Tongue (taste): good and evil
 Nose (smell): good and bad
Mind (knowing): divine thoughts and impressions
This book will show you how to listen for and recognize the often subtle ways God’s Spirit speaks to believers, as well as how to discern good and evil spirits. With consecrated gifts and senses, you can reach out to the body of Christ and to the world at large in both spiritual and practical ways, making you much better equipped to fulfill your role as an ambassador of the gospel.

Warning: do not listen to the audible book!!!

Content - so good and the only book on the feeler I know of. If you are a HSP, you must read!!

Audible book- what the heck did I just listen to? Part robot part James Goll?? Or did they take every audiobook he’s done and digitally taped together the words?! I am not a particular person when it comes to audio but this should not have been released!! No words flow and the fluctuation is so bizarre that it makes it nearly impossible to follow. I would be in shock if you told me James Goll listened to this book and allowed it out. So so so so bad.

Moral of the story, pick up a paper copy and you are guaranteed to get lots of this book.

I am not a feeler. I am a person who wants to think an issue through before I act so I have always had trouble understanding those with powerful emotions. This book helped me understand emotional people and see what role their emotions play in their Christian walk.

I appreciate that people born sensitive can bruise easily. Others might think they are too soft. I appreciate that emotional people must learn to not walk by their emotions alone but must seek the leading of the Spirit. Goll includes good teaching on living by the Spirit, developing wisdom, and doing ministry such as prayer. Feelers need to be firmly grounded in the Word.

Even though I am not a feeler, I learned a great deal from this book. Goll reminded me that our relationship with God is emotional. There should be some passion there. Goll has good general teaching for all Christians on the fruit of the Spirit and gifts of the Spirit, whether one is a feeler or not.

I recommend this book to Christians who would like to understand their emotional fellow believers and get an idea of what those emotions may indicate God is doing. You'll also get some good general teaching on Charismatic Christian living as well.

I received a complimentary digital copy of this book through Celebrate Lit. My comments are an independent and honest review.

The Feeler by author James W. Goll is a Christian Theology Anthropology book. That might sound complicated and hard to understand, but relax because the book is definitely not. It offers a Biblical viewpoint of how our inner most emotions are a reflection of God and how He uses our feelings and emotions for His glory. Now, are you ready to hear more? I thought so.

I enjoy the way author Goll writes. He speaks plainly and engages readers easily. He includes many scriptural references to validate his thoughts and teachings. It is clear that his book is well researched, well written, and well organized.

Are you an emotional person? I absolutely am. I get teary during certain commercials. This book gave me a better understanding of my emotions and how God might use them for His purpose. Never before had I considered that notion. I might be emotional because God needs me to be that way to fulfill my purpose which is ultimately His purpose. This, my friends, made the entire book worth reading.

Filled with Bible verses and personal stories, this amazing book has stayed with me long after I finished it. Previously I believed my emotions were a handicap or weakness. I hated people telling me “you are just so emotional” like it was a bad thing. Now I feel validated.

There is a wealth of knowledge packed in this book backed by scripture. If you or someone you know is a “feeler” then I highly recommend this book to you. In today’s world of desensitizing ourselves and “putting on our big shoes” this was a realistic breath of fresh air. This would be a perfect book club selection. It gets a 5 out of 5 stars from this reader. A copy was provided but these are my honest words.

Emotions come from God. I mean I think in part we all know this. He gives them to us as part of our understanding of this world and to help us understand others. But what if you’re like me? What if you’re not a big touchy feely type person? What if you just don’t like sharing emotions?

I will add that I do share emotion with my close family and friends but for me to cry in front of a group of people or talk about my feelings with strangers just isn’t going to happen. To me those are kept close to the chest and not shared. Am I doing myself and God a disservice by this?

A big part of this book is pointing out just how much God loves us. We learn about the author and his fractured relationship with his earthly father. Too often people try to give God the characteristics of their earthly father and that’s just not the case.

I enjoyed the prayers at the end of each chapter. I felt that this is a well written book and one that I can recommend. It’s one of those books that I could see myself gifting to others who I thought might benefit from the words spoken within.

I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received through Celebrate Lit. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way. All opinions expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the FTC regulations.

This book explores the realm of the Holy Spirit and His work in and through believers. The author teaches about the baptism in the Holy Spirit and how He operates through surrendered people to touch and heal others. He believes everyone can experience divine anointing and encourages Christians to grow and mature in the Lord and in ministry. This text focuses on those gifted as a “feeler.” The author says there has been a divorce in the modern church “between the two very necessary, complementary aspects of the Kingdom of God—The Word of God and the Spirit of God.” When our spiritual gifts are combined with God’s grace He can accomplish much. The author includes many of his personal experiences and shares some from other ministers too. This book offers much to prayerfully consider and put into practice in your own life. It would be good to have in a church library. It isn’t too long (twelve chapters) and is easy to read. I received a copy from Celebrate Lit. all opinions are my own.

I tend to shy away touchy-feely people. I tense up when someone wants to hug me and try to avoid it at all times. That was me several years ago. I have gotten better at hugs but I still hide my emotions very well. This book was very helpful in many ways and I liked learning about how God shows us how much He loves us. He doesn’t want us miserable and sad, but delights in our happiness.

Have you ever heard of the saying, “stinkin thinkin.” Well I will enlighten you on this term I quite often use. I have struggled with depression and anxiety for years. My mind tends to look at things as sad and hopeless at times. In this book I discovered that God really does love me and I need to grasp that truth. My days of feeling unwanted and unloved are fading as I allow His words to soak my soul with hope.

I enjoyed reading the author’s story about verbal abuse and his strained relationship with his earthly father. His openness helped me understand my own struggles and that I am God’s favorite. Yes we each are each His favorite and should rejoice in that knowledge. The author’s in-depth look at the Fruits of the Spirit are grounded in the Word and shows us how our emotions work closely with those gifts.

I really enjoyed the book and liked the prayer at the end of every chapter. I walked away feeling better and have a fresh understanding about allowing our feelings to show. We each have spiritual gifts that work together in harmony. Each gift cannot function alone without the others. I am reminded of a pastor illustrating this fact in a message once. He said think about a bicycle. It has many parts but what if a tire was missing? How would the bike work? Some of us have the gift of mercy, while others may have discernment, administrative, teaching or other gifts not listed here. God designed us to use our gifts to work together to be His hands and feet.

I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.

"The Feeler " by James W. Goll shows us that God uses our emotions and that they are a reflection of Him. There is plenty of Biblical scriptures in this book, some are written out but there are others that are listed for the reader to look up on their own.
I will be reading this book again because I am definitely a feeler. I am glad that this book points out that my feelings aren't wrong but it is how I use them that can make the difference on whether they are God lead or not.

Those of us that are feelers need to learn to not walk by our emotions alone but must seek the leading of the Spirit. We truly need to be grounded in the Word Of God.

The author tells us to check for "heart problems" such as self- rejection or unforgiveness or fear of others' opinions of us. I have a lot of self-rejection but I am slowly releasing this into Jesus's loving arms. The author shows us that we are to have compassion for ourselves as well as others.

The prayers that are included are ones that we can pray and if we truly mean them, I believe they will impact our lives.

I really think we should all live by this statement that the author points out, " Knowing that we ourselves are made of the same stuff as the next person should make us much more patient with others and help us live more compassionate lives."

I have already stated that I will be reading this book again because I to often let my emotions rule my actions.

I also how to admit I am not sure what I think about visions and etc. I do recommend this book because of the excellent teachings on the gifts of The Holy Spirit and be lead by the Holy Spirit.

I was given a complementary copy by the author and Celebrate Lit and these opinions are my own.

The Feeler by James W. Goll shows us, with a Biblical viewpoint, how our deep emotions are a reflection of God and how He can use our feelings and emotions for His glory. The author guides the reader through not only a better understanding of our emotions but also demonstrates how God uses emotions as a line of communication with believers. Goll's passion for the topic is evident in every word written and I enjoyed the plentiful Bible references mentioned throughout the book that reinforced each subtopic discussed. I especially appreciated the mention of other books for further reading. I would definitely recommend this book. Too often the world tells us to suppress our feelings, but we all have emotions, it’s part of our nature. It’s what we do with them that is important. With Goll’s guidance in this book, we can take our emotions and produce spiritual fruit while turning over our Feeler abilities to God.

I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit but was not under any obligation to write a review. All opinions are strictly mine.

Feelings and Emotions are a natural part of our human being. James W.
Goll expands on Feelings and Emotions and how God plays a role in them
in this book, The Feeler.

Feelings and Emotions are different for each individual. Society tells us
we shouldn't be so emotional and that we should HIDE our emotions.
God has gifted us with Feelings and the way we react and use them can
be a blessing. James W. Goll shows us how Emotions and Feelings are
a means of communication between Believers. Each Chapter of this book
has a prayer at the end of each Chapter for encouragement. The book is
filled with Personal Stories and Scripture that show the reader how God
has made Feelings part of us.

I am an introvert so I try to hide my real emotions a lot. I have been
shown how I can show my honest feelings and emotions without
feeling shame. James W. Goll has written a very encouraging book and
I HIGHLY recommend it for those who are thinking feelings and emotions
are to be hidden! Good Book!

I am a feeler so this book definitely suited me. It gives you a better understanding of how God may use me for His kingdom. Society may see your emotions as something bad but God sees it as something beautiful and useful. After all He designed you this way for a reason and a purpose.

The author does a great job at conveying this in a simple yet engaging way. The book is filled with Bible verses and personal stories to make it even more relatable and personal. There is so much to be found in this book and I highly recommend it to the "feeler" and "non- feeler" in your life.

This is a good book that I think everyone should read. It shows us how God gave us emotions and how they are a gift. People have many different ways of showing and expressing their emotions, and God loves everyone. God loves us regardless of our outlook.

The author shares his relationship with his earthly father and tells how we sometimes attribute emotions from that relationship to our relationship with our heavenly Father. The prayers were well timed and I think the overall book was really good.

4/5 for me.

Thank you to the author/publisher for the review copy of this book via Celebrate Lit. I received this book in exchange for an honest review and the opinions stated above are 100% mine.

From a Biblical viewpoint, the author shows how God uses our emotions to bring glory to Him. The Biblical references throughout this book provide support for what Dr. Goll states. This book includes prayers at the end of each chapter that I found meaningful. This book illustrates how emotions come from God and potentially help build relationships between believers. I appreciate how the book encourages growing in wisdom through both our emotions and the Holy Spirit.

So whether you consider yourself to be a touchy-feely person or one who prefers a less emotional approach, check out this book for yourself. I received a complimentary copy of this book, but this in o way influenced my review. All opinions are my own

As most Christians with a sensitive spirit and strong empathy I have wondered if my strong emotions are a blessing or a curse. I have always chosen to believe they are a blessing from the Lord but have had a hard time understanding how my big feelings bring glory to God. In The Feeler Gift James W Goll helped me understand how feelings are a part of God’s spiritual gifts. He gives understanding of God and Jesus’ emotions and how God wants to use those of us with big emotions to share His mercy and compassion with those around us. He gives scripture examples and life application while also warning of the very real dangers that come with being led by our emotions and not the Lord. Overall, this was an excellent book that has helped me understand my gift and steps to use it well.

The audible version is read by the author and doesn't seem robotic to me, unlike the impressions of the reviewer before me. It's funny how we can have such different reactions. I'd suggest sampling the audio version before purchasing. Very helpful book. This is my 2nd book by James W. Goll. I see that many of his books and audio books are included with my scribd membership, yay!

It wasn’t bad, just less of what I expected content wise. Some random gold nuggets of wisdom throughout the book are 5/5. It’s just that most of it was different than I anticipated and hoped for

The Feeler by James W. Goll is a Biblical look on how our emotions can connect us deeper to God. I am a firm believer that God can use all for his glory - and the author shows how this is true with our feelings and emotions. Each chapter is started with a bible verse that relates to the topic. The author will then unpack the topic using several bible verses to tie it all together. The author and his writing flowed nicely and everything spoke right to my heart. This has been a very emotion filled year for everyone - and this book shows how we can connect deeper with God. The book asks questions throughout each chapter that encourages you to dig deeper and search. I feel I am more feeler then not - and this book spoke volumes to me

I love all books by James W. Goll. He is someone I admire and someone I learn from each time I pick up one of his books, and this one was no exception. It was very reader-friendly, yet filled with depth. I enjoyed the little glimpses he gave us into his own life, and loved how personal he made the book. I was able to learn a lot from the topic, and it is a book I will be reading over and over again because I have a feeling I just scratched the surface of this topic and will glean more the second, and third time I read it. I’m actually doing a Bible study with a friend while reading this book and it’s fascinating to listen to what she’s learning as well as sharing what I’m learning to. Great book – highly recommend to those who want to grow deeper in their relationship with God – either to understand their family and friends more or to understand themselves more.

We live in a society where being someone who is sensitive or who leads with their feelings is often seen as a bad things. After all, emotions can get us into trouble... we need to think with our brains instead, right? But, if feelings were such a bad thing... why would God have given them to us? What if instead of being a hindrance, God gave us these emotions to help us to better hear and understand him. This idea of feelings is just the topic of Dr. James W. Goll's newest book The Feeler.

I must say, this isn't really a typical read for me and perhaps not one that I would have chosen on my own. Regardless, I did find it quite interesting. As Christians, we hear a lot about discernment. It's one of those churchy words that gets thrown about quite often... but how do we really come about it? That's a topic I personally haven't seen or heard much about. This unique read takes on that idea and shares how God uses those emotions He has given each of us can better help us to understand Him. Like I said, it's quite unique. Filled with lots of Biblical references in addition to personal stories, this is certainly a book that will make readers think and might just offer some new perspective on our spiritual journeys. It is definitely one worth checking out.

**Book received for consideration. All thoughts are my own.

The Feeler: Discovering How Sensitivity Helps You Discern and Act on God’s Voice is the first book I have read by James W Goll. I thought it was a good read. It was full of inspiring faith. It is broken down into twelve chapters. Each chapter is full of scriptures and verses that so many readers will find powerful. I did not find the book to be overwhelming and did find it easy to follow. I liked it.

I am giving The Feeler: Discovering How Sensitivity Helps You Discern and Act on God’s Voice four stars. I would be interested in reading like this from James W Goll in the future. I recommend it for readers who enjoy reading Christian Theological Anthropology.
