Cabin For Two

Rate this book
Combining a steamy romance with all-too-human characters, Cabin for Two is a contemporary love story of finding what you need amidst unexpected times.

Kayla Lake loves her work and her privacy, fighting to have her space just the way she likes it. Her secluded mountain home and rental cabin makes that easy, especially during quarantine. That is, until she feels a spark for her newest renter, Greg James.

Bearded and handsome, Greg proves to be surprisingly thoughtful. But Kayla is at odds about someone entering her space. Greg is a dangerously delightful distraction from Kayla’s latest deadline. And Greg’s own suspicious work call looms over the cabins along with approaching storms.

Oooh, this was so close to a 4 star. Just two things ruined it.

Kayla went from self confident, self sufficient and cool to a flat unlikeable bitch in Chapter 10.

The lack of actual story in regards to Greg's reasons for ending up at the cabin. There really should have been a lot more depth and detail given to that part of the story.

This was a really fun read for me. Some really SUPRISING details I've never seen before in a romance novel that fleshed out the heroine. Kayla is a graphic designer who has done well enough for herself to live as she pleases; alone at the base of some mountains. She's not a hermit, but she absolutely values her solitude and privacy.
They gave this character dark skin, dreadlocks, a penchant for smoking weed in her down time, regular masturbation and a love of a good drink. NONE of these things were detractors for me. They made her a real person in my mind!
Greg is an accountant that needs to not be where he's been for undisclosed reasons for the most part for most of the book. Frustrating, because it would have made some of his reactions and hesitancy a lot more understandable.
I LOVE a book where the characters don't fight the fall too much. And despite the circumstances, neither of these really put up much resistance. The attraction was instant and the chemistry was great and they both knew it and responded accordingly. Overall, MOST of Kayla's actions were understandable REactions to things Greg did. But there came a point where she went too far and I was never able to fully embrace her after that. Was a really, REALLY bad look. I also don't like how often she made him feel like shit. Seems he was always in a position to apologize, and a lot of the times it was just because she caught an attitude and had a fit of temper.

I won't deduct points for the light-washing of the cover. Dark skin and dreads is not light skin and curls. Please do better and don't adjust your characters aethetics for convenience or anything else.

Still I liked this for how real they made the leads and just how different. I'd definitely recommend.

Unfortunately this one was just a bit boring and Kayla rather annoyed me. She was supposed to be this fierce character but instead she just kind of came across as rude. I wish the stakes for Greg’s trial were a bit more intense or we got more info about what was happening.

The book was good until the last couple of chapters. The main female character became a little to rude and she smacked him in the face while they were arguing. I did not like that. By the end of the book they both had things to apologize for but only the man apologized and the the book ended. This would have been a five star read if the just ended it a couple chapters earlier apologized to each other and left it at that.
