Emerald Lakes #1

The Magic of Discovery

Rate this book
Growing up in Emerald Lakes, population six hundred and eighty-two, had been safe and comfortable. Running my own magic shop and making a living off my green witchcraft, I have no complaints. Sure, there’s my ex, who never understood the word ‘no’, but there’s also the lovable and eccentric townspeople who feel more like one huge extended family, and let’s not forget my boy-crazed Gran who keeps us all on our toes.

...But something has apparently been missing, and the stars take it upon themselves to correct the problem, dropping four sexy men at my door. Well, not literally. They move into the apartment above my shop, so I’m their landlord. Drawn in by these mages who blew into town on a work assignment, a whole different kind of magic starts to grow between us, but my powers are doing things they shouldn’t, and there’s also a pesky prophecy to unravel.

Strange, unnatural things are brewing in Emerald Lakes, and I can’t ignore the sinking suspicion that something life-changing is headed my way.

Discovering a whole new world of magic, I can only hope I don’t lose myself in the madness.

This is a full-length romance novel. There is MM content. It ends on a cliffhanger and contains brief references to domestic violence and other themes that readers may find triggering.

Cover story for a sad take at bdsm?!

I'm not exactly sure what I read but half way through I can tell you I didn't like where it went. This book started out good, I was all for the mystery about the lady, then we get a prophecy and I'm like ok, more mystery I can dig it! But when I got to the bsdm parts I was thrown way the hell off, it starts with two of the guys, and I love me some guy on guy action, but I won't lie this was weird as hell and kinda just a forced scene in the book with no real purpose. I skipped about the 6 pages of what ever that was to read up until cam and saige's night came up and when she straight up bit him I was shocked! And she drew blood, then did it again, and the author writes like it's cute because she's being bratty? For someone who's been abused by an ex that loved to hurt her, I found it appalling she'd do something so down right messed up as to inflict pain on another? she doesn't even know this man? And she justifies it with " I'm tired of being the good girl"? Just what?! The author definitely is shooting for a theme of dominant men, submission, and bratty big butt chick who's just asking for it. More story next time and leave w.e fantasy this was out

Definitely not for me

I want to preface that BDSM is all well and good but this is...well, it just isn't, I guess.
I honestly knew where the plot was going from the beginning. There weren't any surprises though it was clear the author meant for there to be. Then there was the she just up and touched Fisher's hair. Without asking. Just touched it.

No.

I don't care that she acted like she knew she was being crazy after, the fact they all just laughed it off is a solid no for me. And the fact that it's written by a white woman screams racist. It honestly felt like a scene intending to say, "See, not all black people mind their hair being touched." and not all do. But you can't just blow it off like that.

Now the portrayal of a brat in this has me feeling some kind of way. Most people in the BDSM community will tell you that you set rules first and foremost. Especially if you are formerly abused. It keeps from tripping triggers and sending someone into a flashback. The fact that wasn't really touched on here upset me.

I just genuinely didn't like this book. I stuck with it, hoping it would change but instead it just got worse for me.

I mean, if you like it, fantastic. But I just couldn't.

Edit: a) you can be indian and black. One of my best friends is native, dominican, and black. I have a Puerto Rican friend who identifies as black. Whose hair is shoulder length. With thick, curly hair. But *even outside of that*, you don't touch someone's hair without permission. Someone is going to read this and think "well as long as my heart is in the right place". No. It's a violation of personal space and consent must be given. And it happens frequently to bipoc of all races. Including my indigenous ass.
Stop it.
b) calling someone racist isn't a slur. But let's say I went too far with my assessment. She didn't mean any harm hopefully. Unfortunately, it still feels extremely ignorant to me.
c) let me explain something: I don't speak for everyone. You may like this book. That's fine. But I didn't and don't for the reasons I specified above.

Lmao this book is 🗑🗑🗑🗑 DNF at 38%.

✔️Poorly fleshed out characters
✔️Juvenile and childish dialogues/discussions
✔️Cringey FMC who rambles a lot
✔️Insta-lust/love without any interactions between the characters
✔️The guys are supposed to be assassins and deadly killers, huh, where ? 😒 they talked like 15 years old 🤡
✔️Boring and predictable plot
✔️ Daddy kink *shudders*
✔️Awful writing style 💩
✔️ Forced relationship: the guys were all banging each other and seemed to be happy, why feel the need to add a woman in the midst? It’s unnecessary 💀💀

*sigh* I love PNR books, it’s one of my favorite genre along fantasy so when I’ve heard that this series was one of the best PNR series of 2021 with RH? I was sold… Well don’t even bother, this book was mediocre.

Also one scene rubbed me the wrong way; if you aren’t aware, it’s rude and offensive to touch people’s hair without consent, especially if it’s a PoC. Just don’t. The FMC did just that and it’s was freaking rude.

HOLY FUCKBSJSNSJSJISEJHEGHW!

I don't even know where to start with this review because this book was THAT good. First of all, this is a debut novel and you absolutely CANNOT tell that. So Kudos to Britt. I am in love with this book and all its characters and I mean ALL characters ; the villains, the hero's, the pets and especially the old grandma witch😂😂 I was laughing so hard throughout the book and had a permanent grin etched on my face for the next whole day.

Also, let's talk about the steamy scenes. There is MM, MF, MMF, MFM and Daddy kink. You will need several new pairs of panties, and many cold showers during this book because it's vagina heaven.😂 Honestly, it's off-the-charts H.O.T!! Britt knows how to write a zingy scene is all I can say. And tbh, I HATE daddy kink and used to avoid any scenes or even books that had those, but this book made me love it. I can never call Cam anything but Daddy now.🤤🔥

*BEST PNR REVERSE HAREM I HAVE READ TILL DATE.*

Saige has lived in the small town of Emerald Lakes her whole life with her Grandma and she is a green witch. Meaning she draws her power from the nature and can grow plants using her magic. Her life is pretty content but also monotonous. However, that problem vanishes as soon as four hunky mages arrive and take residence in the apartment above her shop. Cam, Fischer, Kai and Sloane are operatives on a secret mission for their company and are the best in their line of work. Doesn't hurt that they are the definition of male Beauty. However, along with the sizzling romance, there is something else going on. Something sinister. The secrets start swirling and mysteries deepen. What is going on? What will happen with Saige? Is there an end to this romantic endeavour or will it be bring a forever? What about the prophecy?

Believe me folks, you NEED to read this book. It ended on a big cliffhanger and I am not even mad about it because when the next one comes out, I get to re-read this beauty. I am a forever fan of Britt now. Can't wait for the second book. ♥️

PS- I have claimed Fischer already (what with him being a stone cold killer who plays with minds) so please stay away from my boo 🖤😂💋

Saige is a witch living in a small town where some seriously hot guys show up to rent the room above her shop. (Rented out by seriously funny Grandma Bette.👵😆)

The guys are on a mission from their boss to see what is going on in this town, not knowing they would be heading to find their mate.

Loved all the individual and interconnected relationships here ❤️💙💜💛💚

On to start book #2 NOW!!!! ❤️🔮🧹

4 "Yes Daddy" stars****

first of, lets talk about that cover... So happy to find me an author writing about some curvy thickem girl whose actually earned the right to an ass without the miracle of being skinny and landing one by some be-jingle-magic (such magic also known as a trip to the surgeon)...
description

This is the first installment in the Emerald Lakes series and tells the story of Saige and her potential harem. One of them is a real asshole who i hated until the very end of the book, but i guess it wouldn't serve half the plot if all of them were falling over their feet for her so there's that element of being realistic. I just love the individuality of this harem.. there's no confusing any of them with each other cause they are all so different which is so necessary in RH.. And YESSSSS to CAM, the MVP (imo)... this dude is just hot AF and gives real zaddy vibes..
description

we also meet Saige's granny who can kick it with me anytime. she loves dick (ooooo, can we get a spin-off for her and a grandpa that also serves as a hot-ass zaddy??? Pretty please @Britt)..

so overall, this book has so much plot build.. it keeps you on your toes cause there are so many possibilities.. prophecies that have you wondering WTH??? Saige is having dreams that aren't dreams (is it real or is it not?)... What's the real deal with her mum anyway??? You see what i mean, the plot continues to thicken and makes you want more more more
description

then there's the issue of Khol (can i just say how damn sexy that name is!!!!)...
description

I NEED TO KNOW EVERYTHING so fingers crossed book 2 will come out sooner than anticipated...

Then there's the VIP issue of the smexy bits.. mmmm, steam, steam and more steam.. y'all, u get some sub/dom scenes, zaddy play, mm action, mmf (with all-bodies partici-fucking-pating).. wooo..:
description

So incase you are still wondering: hell yes, this is definitely RECOMMENDED

PS- I got and ARC in exchange for an honest review- and y'all know i keep it 100 all the damn time #winkwink#

Saige is a green witch living in Emerald Lakes— a town protected by a magical barrier. When four new guys come into town with the excuse to buy a new property for the company they work for, Saige is instantly attracted to them. But they are not who they say they are, and when demonic creatures start to take notice of Saige, the guys need to decide what they stand for.

It started interesting, but after a few chapters in I got kind of bored with the story. The guys fall for her straight away, and it doesn't seem like what four trained spies and assassins would do. She "melts the walls around their hearts", but there is really no event nor time in the story for it to happen. I also didn't like the Daddy kink.

The Magic of Discovery is the first book within the Emerald Lakes series. In it, you will meet Saige who absolutely loves her small town. It's where everyone knows everyone and it's pretty safe too. Though things do get a lot more interesting once some new guys roll into town.

Enter Cam, Sloane, Kai, and Fischer. Four guys sent out on a secret mission who end up being mesmerized by Saige. She's fun girl to be around but also mysterious. Heck, the guys are mysterious too. So, it's pretty safe to assume that I instantly starting shipping them with her. Of course, there's always one person who is going be stubborn and that's Sloane. Mister tough guy.

Eventually he will cave, and when that happens, I will enjoy it all. Other than that, we get a harry potter prophecy that confused the heck out of me. We also find out that demons are sort of after here and killing her poor plants. I'm hoping we get more answers in the next book and maybe see her mom?

In the end, I'm hooked just enough because I can't wait for certain things to happen. Also, can I steal Gran from her?

The writing, for me, is slightly childish and cumbersome. While I do believe Saige is a wonderful person, the way she and her boyfriends speak amongst each other and with the people around them is slightly redundant and just not really too realistic for me, considering the way this world is set up. It's funny, sweet, and a light read, but there's a lot of insta-love and insta-lust. I also pretty much figured out the "plot twists" by the second chapter or whenever new information cropped up, and it felt like there was just a lot of tropes, free-time, and not much done besides them fucking and having poorly-described hangout sessions.

The secondary characters are also not very fleshed-out, besides Miranda (who's character isn't done too well either,) and Gran. The latter is primarily why I continued past the first chapter of this book.

So this was interesting. A cry from what I normally read. But I’m so intrigued by this plot. Writing could have some improvement (ie the inner italicized dialogue felt excessive at times and hard to stay in the mind of the POV bc it felt out of character), and struggled with some of the choppy scenes. Especially one or two spicy scenes felt choppy and hard to read/didn’t flow. But still overall, the plot kept me going. And of course ended on a cliffhanger! I’m excited to see what happens in Book 2.

The Magic of Discovery is book one in the Emerald Lakes Series by Britt Andrews. This is an Erotic Reverse Harem.

I need some time to digest this first book. It had a few different things going on which took the story into multiple directions. We have a mystery, a prophecy, and lots of different sexual dynamics like MM, MFM, BDSM and more. I’m unsure on how I feel about the sexual dynamics in this story. I will say the scenes are Hot and get the blood pumping.

I was into the story at the beginning; especially with the mystery and then the prophecy, but when the sexual dynamics kicked in I was thrown. The first scene was with MM and I enjoy that from time to time, but it felt off and forced and didn’t feel like it had a purpose in the story. Then the other sexy scenes also felt off. I’m not sure what the author wanted, but it came off as the bratty chick who no longer wants to be the good girl and disregards personal boundaries along with dominant and submissive men.

Overall it felt juvenile and predictable. At the time of reading I was looking for a good reverse heroin, but this one started off ok and then got weird. I didn’t like how our lead heroine turned into a brat and that the story ends on a cliffhanger.

The Magic of Discovery was not the book for me. If the blurb intrigues you, I urge you to give it a shot. Just because it did not work for me does not mean it won’t for you.

HOLY FUCKING SHIT

What the actual fuck did I just read? This cannot possibly be the first book Britt wrote! I just don't know what to say. I mean, holy shit! At the end of the 8th chapter, I kid you the fuck not, I had to stop before I giggled like a goddamn school girl.

Everything. This book has everything I want in one place! Alphahole - check. Tough as balls heroine - check. Crazy as fuck dude(s) - check. MM/MF/MMF/MFM - fucking check. Mystery - check. Scary/creepy shit - check! This book does not play!

You instantly feel a dark vibe when the book starts. You come to realize that the characters you'll get to meet are the real shit. They are smart, dark, tough and still manage to have a heart in them. But that darkness is no fucking joke. There's a storyline that I knew where it was going and it did but with a major twist, I for sure did not see coming. I found myself feeling dirty as fuck, scared and then snorting from the funny moments in the next page.

@book_gusto recommended this book with a very, um, interesting post (check it the fuck out) and I knew I had to read it. What I didn't know was how right she was in her review. I gotta say it again, holy fucking shit. I can't even say the cliffhanger caught us when it was getting good, because the whole story was good!

Britt, I say this with all good intentions, you're a dirty fucking queen! I was thoroughly entertained and cannot wait for The Magic of Betrayal!

My rating: 3

Reading some other reviews, I thought that this book is actually a fast burn but while it is not a slow burn, because there are smexy times in the book for sure, I would call it a Medium burn.

I liked that Fisher is a person of color but it is never a big topic in this book. Here and there his skin ton is mentioned and his dark hair but nothing else. It is just normal to be a mixed society and I like this very much.

I enjoyed the book and I think I will read the next book too. But it is not a book that I would reread that’s why it gets a 3 star rating.

“Someone’s hurt you? Tell me where this miscreant dwells, and I’ll snap his fucking neck with my bare hands and bring his severed cock back to you as a trophy.”

OMG this book was awesome!! It took me completely by surprise I couldn’t help but fall in love with the characters and the story. As I kept reading more of this book I was completely sucked in! I didn’t just want to know what happened next I NEEDED to know! And the best bit this is a debut novel and I honestly couldn’t tell! This book was written amazingly the story flowed and had good twists and turns and ooooh that ending has me wanting the next book already!

I loved all the kinks in this book and let me tell you this book was bringing the steam and the kink! I fucking loved it 😍 this book had MM, MF, MMF, MFM, a slice of BDSM and the good old daddy kink! I’m not one for daddy kink but JESUSEEE this daddy kink had me HOT under the covers 🥵 let me tell you Britt Andrews can write a kinky scene and have you wanting you living it yourself!

This book is a Reverse Harem PNR book with witches, mages, shifters, demons and an eccentric dick mad grandma who you can’t help but fall in love with! This book had me laughing out loud and devouring each chapter! I HIGHLY recommend this book I believe Britt Andrews is one to watch because let’s face it this book was awesome!

Where did this author come from?!? This book was awesome and I can't believe this is a debut as the writing and plot development is over an experienced author. Every character is well put together and dynamic.

We find Saige’s life starts to go out of control after four men come into her life on pretenses of a different reason than they are. What they didn't expect was to find a crazy, sexy, green witch with a lack of filter and funny inner monologue.

"He’s coming in my house. Oh, fuck. I wish I could high five myself right now without that being weird."

This book is full of sexy scenes, kink galore, and will leave you wanting more. Looking forward to reading the next installment of this book as so much is still up in the air.

Failed attempt of a book

I don’t get it. This book had really great reviews. This book needs an editor. Misspelled words, present and past tenses in the same sentences/paragraphs and no cohesive story. Basically, it felt as if the author had been writing down funny things someone could say and threw them in a book and tried to write a story around the sayings. There was no character development. The dialogue made no sense most of the time. Very stilted characters. Would not recommend.

DNF at 10%. This was such juvenile writing I knew I could not continue and still manage to respect myself. It was cringey and embarrassing to read the words and know that the author wrote them while thinking that they were funny and witty.

The grandma talks about getting dick and then says ”Heyooo” after. The MC describes herself as "Thicccccc" and calls a rude male lead a buttlord as an insult. She refers to sex toys as ”Electric weapons" for some incomprehensible reason, and all of this and more is from the first 27 pages.

Books can be fun and witty without acting like a 10 year old wrote pieces of it. In fact, that exact thing is a detriment to the tone because why would you want to read a sex book where a character is described as having "Junk in the trunk" instead of describing her ass in legit any other way? Such as—and this is a crazy thought—in a more sexy and unequivocally adult way????

I had so much hope for this book since it's a paranormal reverse harem and I was disappointed. Don't get me wrong the spicy scenes were HOOOTTT, but nothing else about the book made me want to keep reading. The main character is supposed to come off as this "quirky" girl, but she came off more as cringy and embarrassing. There were so many times I wanted to stop reading this book, but I kept going just for the spicy scenes. Will not be continuing this series.

RHs aren’t usually my thing but this was not only hot but, stupidly hilarious and the plot is engaging. Part of me wishes she’d pick ONE but hey, she’s got all these hot dudes at her beck and call, like more power to you boo boo.

PS: I want to be gran when I grow up. She IS Betty White. Like are you gonna look at me and tell me that I’m wrong???

Y'all, if you like paranormal reverse harems with MM scenes, you ABSOLUTELY need to pick this up.

Our heroine is hilarious, quirky, and confident and her inner voice will have you laughing out loud. You also get POVs for all four of the guys she meets in this book and I'm completely in love with all of them for different reasons.

As for spice, this book is HOT and it introduces some kink (BDSM, Daddy) and I know from Britts social media its only going to get kinkier as we go and I am here for it.

It also has a super intriguing plot that I am very excited to see unfold. Cant wait to pick up the rest of the series.

This is quick paced and easy to jump right into. I like the different kinds of witches and mages and the various abilities they have. I'm not clear if the whole world knows about magic or if it's a secret from regular humans, maybe we'll learn more about that in the sequel. I also thought the guys were fun, especially Kai and his playful attitude. Sloane is the holdout, not wanting to fall for Saige like his friends have and keeping a secret from everyone. I think it will end up blowing up in his face, but we'll see!

God damn.
I did not expect this to be the absolute smut fest that it was, but boy am I thankful.

This was sexy and engaging, and so much fun!
I literally could not put it down.
Do you know how many times I said ‘just one more chapter’ to myself?
Neither do I, but the next thing I know, it’s 6:30 am and I’ve finished the book, and fucked up my sleeping cycle all at the same time.

I really liked every character we got to know in this book.
Each one has their own unique personalities, and preferences, and humor.

The plot was deep and complex and I Know we are just getting started but damn am I intrigued!

The sex was hot and varied, and there are M/M scenes.
I’m putting this in my ‘kinked’ list because of some dynamics that seem to be forming between them, but I’d say it’s on the light side. Think more power exchange than punishments. (Though we do get One of those, however brief)

I don’t think I want to say too much more for now. Things are still developing with every thing. This was mostly just a very sexy introduction, and setup.
I honestly just can not wait to pick up the next book.
That ending needs an explanation, pronto.

I felt like this book was a great introduction for the series. There was a lot of information to find out and the relationship isn’t focused on too much. The spice was great and I’m excited to see where book 2 leads!
