Emerald Lakes #2

The Magic of Betrayal

Rate this book
I thought I had a lot of questions before.

Finding myself back in Besmet with the demon from my dreams, I’m finding it hard to deny the connection I feel toward him, despite the fact that he’s certifiably insane.

When did my life get so chaotic?

My green magic isn’t stable. My moods aren’t stable. My ex isn’t stable. Gran’s not stable… oh who am I kidding? She’s never been stable, so at least one of us is consistent.

Luckily, I still have my guys; Cam, Fischer, Kai, and maybe Sloane. Honestly, I’m not sure that Sloane is capable of letting someone claim him, but he certainly makes my heart race.

Secrets, lies, and prophecies are coming to light. Hopefully I put my trust in the right people because betrayal on it’s own is terrible, but to be betrayed by those who swore to protect you? That would be devastating…

This is a full-length RH romance, intended for adults 18 and over, which includes MMFMMM content. It ends on a cliffhanger and contains domestic violence including physical, mental, and sexual abuse and other themes that readers may find triggering.

*This is the second book in a paranormal RH series.*

I only thought fair to continue with this series after the fiasco that Emerald Lake Prep was, considering Britt Andrews released this series first and both share the same name, which is very suspicious ngl.

This one was so good in comparison, too. The angst of the betrayal was amazing and that ending??? Fuck, I thought I was having a panic attack, that cliffhanger was pure evil. I loved how high the stakes got and I can’t wait to see what happens next.

I honestly do not get the high ratings for this book.

It is filled with a lot of filler. Mundane scenes and my favourite pet peeve, characters who don't talk to one another but just keep quite or take out their resulting feelings on one another without talking.

Then we have Saige oscillating between crying, being a "badass" and all her issues with Bryce and her weight. Then the scene that annoyed me, she blasts Lizzo in the shop, but we had to have paragraphs of explanation as to how it was for empowerment/body positivity.

Then the guys are all basically spooks but they couldn't figure out Laurie's angle?

Then Khol all of a sudden is father of the year. I wasn't buying it.

But what really takes the cake is the end scene with Fischer. I was like nope. I am out. Soap opera clichés are not what I am here for.

So, book 1 very good. Book 2 was just filler and shenanigans. Not willing to invest my time in future books.

Yeah, I am definitely done with this series. The books are too long and I am not enjoying the innuendo laced style of writing. The balance of plot to sex was way off in this book it it just did not hold my attention.

Everything I do and say is intentional. When you don’t get the luxury of correcting mistakes, you learn real fast to act with purpose and with confidence because there’d be no time for apologies.

Oh my God Britt! What did you do?!! WHAT DID YOU DO?!!!! 😭😭

This book carries everything from intrigue, mysteries, betrayal, fear, love, steam and last but not the least...heartbreak. 💔 I had trouble getting into the story cuz the jokes and puns in the first 15% of the book felt too over the top but then this story sucked me in and basically bitch slapped me to sit my ass down and witness everything.

The book picks up exactly where the last one left off and we see Saige's astral projection self being stuck in Besmet. There she meets her insanely sexy (pun intended) demon, Bram. Now, there are more questions than answers, with the prophecy, the demon realm, and what's going haywire with Saige's magic. Will her guys' be able to bring her back and solve all this? Or is something more sinister happening all around them and her?

Also, the people who asked me why I liked Fischer...Ha! The joke's on you now❣️ It's not about who exudes danger... it's about who IS danger. And boy, oh boy, can Fisch damage and destruct. I loved all the sexy mages too!! And Bram!!! Sexy moon maidens, that guy is sizzling 🔥 I def wanna see more of him in book 3. And Khol impressed me in both the 1st and 2nd book. Oh ,and is there even a need to say that this book is vagina heaven too 😂🔥

The twists and turns keep coming and you'll be swept up in the magic that is this world. And you'll also want to kill the author cuz of the cliffhanger (Run Britt, Run☠️🔪🔪)Go read it already.

The Magic of Betrayal is the second installment within the Emerald Lakes series. In this, we start to finally get to know the guys. Their strengths and their weaknesses. The only thing they probably didn't see coming: their secrets and lies catching up to them. Yeah, it's safe to assume that shit sort of hit the fan after that.

With each wave of drama, we also get some betrayal and cringe-worthy moments. I mean, the demon king... ew! Super gross and I'm glad that they got out of there but now we have more problems in Emerald Lakes. Somehow her douchey ex and mom are working together (sort of) which hurts my head in so many ways.

I also refuse to believe a certain someone isn't alive. I will riot until this situation is resolved and we can start our plan of revenge. Seriously, I need all sorts of ass kicking in the next book because I will be mad if nothing happens. I would also like a beautiful and sexy reunion. K thanks, byeeeeeee.

I loved the Magic of Discovery. It was NOT something I thought I would like, but the speed and the craziness got me. I was fucking pumped to read the next book. The author had no reservations on sex scenes and threw in a lot of funny moments, which I enjoyed. I'll repost my review on that book, but first, let's talk about The Magic of Betrayal.

So, I got this book back in December when it came out and tried reading it and assumed my book slump was to blame for my lack of interest in it. So I tried again in February.

I started asking myself if the silliness was a part of the first book and it turned out that it was. But why was it annoying me here, when it was ok the last time around? Was the sex random as fuck and over the top in the last one? It was and it happened again here. Was it fucking hot? Yes, it was absofuckinglutely hot as fuck! But it annoyed me in this book like the silliness. I kept trying to understand what my deal was with this book and I figured it out after an emotional scene that read like a cringe factory with a one trick pony.

Don't get me wrong. Sex and silliness, sells, it's what I came for in this book, but it was over the top and turned the whole shit ridiculous. I kept asking myself how many licks till I get to the good part of this book and I just fucking couldn't. I didn't find anything interesting. Development wise, the plot was not intriguing me anymore. I was salivating for Bram in the last book but in this one, he had me feeling like a disappointing teen who pre ejaculated in his pants during 7 minutes in heaven.
It didn't deliver and I got turned off by all the men in the book. All of these badasses took a left at Simpville and I got out when I could. I didn't go back to it.

My rating: 3.5

I decided to read the next book in this series and I think it is better than the first on, hence the 3.5 stars rating. Especially after reading 50% of the book the book gets more and more exciting and captivating.

Somebody please kill the ex-boyfriend psycho. He really deserves to die. Also kick Kohl and Bram somewhere where it hurts badly because they could have explained things much better instead of kidnapping Saige and giving her no options. But there would have been less Drama!

I liked the book it and the second half was really entertaining. And before writing this review I already started to read the next book, because the cliffy was so bad. Even the author acknowledged this at the end of the book. And yes, I can see (after reading 10% of book 3) why she did it.

5 "MIND FUCKED" STARS*****

the feels i'm currently dealing with after reading this book cannot even be broken down into text >>> i'm destroyed :
description

the book picks up right where it left off and i assure you, there were no wasted words here. The writing is intentional meaning the author was deliberate in what she intended for the characters with a clear and consistent character development.. we get to know about our harem, even Sloane shows up with an emotional back story...

the plot... let me repeat that as a way of emphasis.. THE PLOT
description

whatever evil genius residing in the authors brain, i'm about to get very well acquainted with you and all the work you intend to put out there.. I imagine the type of conversations that went on in the authors head whilst writing this included:
description

New characters were introduced, the plot thickened and you better believe that the sexy times did the same:
description

So incase its not yet glaringly obvious, Fuck yeh, this is highly recommended!!!

What just happened.

Holy hell this series is a damn rollercoaster of emotions. One minute I'm laughing out loud to some of the lines, they are side splitting with laughter moments. This author is fantastic at grabbing you into the minds of the characters and taking you on a wild ride. This book ended with me having tears streaming down my face unfortunately it wasn't through laughing, oh why do author,s do this to us 🥺😭. Well onwards to book three to see what else awaits and what emotions will be dragged out of me this time.

Oh Boy, this is the second book in the Emerald Lake series and you don’t want to miss a single word, I devoured this book and felt all the emotions Author Britt Andrews portrayed
Saige and her boys are going to go through it in this book. While there are plenty of sexy times, that are macaroni in a pot hot.. there are some serious and painful moments too..
Bram is quickly becoming a favorite of mine.. for a demon prince I was shocked to love him so suddenly., I felt so bad for Sloane and he’s proving to be one of the more delicate pieces to this puzzle.. he has a painful past and it leads a lot of his actions throughout the story.
Fisher opens up so beautifully that he stole a huge piece of my heart. While he seems like the most fragile and weak.. he’s actually the strongest and perhaps the most deadly..
Cam is still the control freak,he softens Saige but he’s not giving up his big daddy title for nothing . He proves over and over again how much he needs it.
Kai *sigh* Kai is my fun loving sexy beast. He’s the one that needs the emotional connection the most I think. He’s got a huge heart and Saige finds out exactly what it means to be loved by him.
Gran is still as feisty and fun loving as ever. She shows more of her witch in this book. Bryce needs to run because he’s not going to survive much longer. Laurie is not worth much in my book. I still don’t like her either.. Kohl is manipulative but he’s being played too... how’s it all going to end? I don’t know but I’m definitely here for it .. that cliffhanger Is heart pounding..
Book one made Author Britt Andrews a player on the paranormal reverse harem board but this book makes her a damn game changer.. I loved every single thing about this book.. if you haven’t started the series then I feel sorry for you because you are missing out. Excellent job.. epic read!

Fantastic!

Ho. Lee. Sheet.

You know how sometimes the second book doesn't match up to the first? Yeah, that doesn't apply here.

Betrayal starts off where discovery ends. You know it's going to be epic straight off the bat when you read the trigger warnings. Betrayal is darker than its predecessor, but there's still plenty of humour and that weenie wagon has yet again delivered more steamy scenes. The edges are darker though...and the book is aptly named.

Cannot wait for the next book, as the ending to this one destroyed me. Fifteen minutes of waterworks show no sign of letting up.

Please Britt, put us out of our misery!

This continues from book ones cliff hanger. Loved to see Bram join the squad, but damn another cliff hanger! Loving that book 3 is already out.

Same complaints from book 1 in regards to writing style but that might be a personal preference for me.

Well, Britt, It's my job to give an honest opinion and killing off my favorite character was the worst thing you could possibly have done. I was going to give 3 stars as I did the 1st book however, as I said, killing off my favorite character was the absolute worst thing to happen. I'm debating if I wanted to bothering the next book. To say I hate it this book would be An understatement of massive proportions.
To the people reading my review, honestly I don't know if I wanna read the next book or not. What's the point? If she's just going around killing off main characters, who play a vital part in everything to do with the story, what's the point in reading at? Cause honestly I don't know.

First of all I still think Gram is the best ever and was sad we didn’t see quite as much of her amazingness lol.

The last book had us all screaming at Britt because of that ending. Omg. Have you read it? No well go read the first one. It has the best freaking quotes I have ever read and chapter 8 omw!!! Now on to this one. Saige is still trying to keep herself rooted in the real world and away from jerk face Demon boy Bram. Her guys are doing the best they can to find a way with Gran to stop her from going too. This book shows more depth of character and the some of their development will astound you! Bram grows and you might actually grow on you like a fungus if you aren’t careful. The guys still haven’t clued Saige into their deceit and we all know how that goes! It’s going to implode sooner or later. Seriously this book was full of emotions, of twists and turns you won’t see coming from a mile away on a flat land with no vegetation. Seriously your mind will be blown and you may doubt everything you thought you believed. Britt also doesn’t disappoint with her panty melting escapades though I was sad there wasn’t any multiple boy toys doing naughty things to their girl or each other lol. But all jokes aside this book was amazing and I freaking loved it well at least till the end. Now I want to put the evil author in the naughty chair because seriously that ending. Ugh how could you! And your cliffhangers are freaking killing me!

Side note: make sure to read the weenie wagon rules at the beginning of the book because they are hilarious and I love her post read author notes. Britt you are going to take the romance world by storm if you keep this up!!!! Xoxox

When I read the first book, Magic of Discovery, I was completely obsessed. I was a virgin to the RH world, so the idea of a Heroine not only being a curvy witch, but also a Survivor with a butt load of men interested in her, I was beside myself with euphoria. Yes! FINALLY! The book ended with intrigue over a new potential Mate, as well as vague details of a prophecy. I needed more!

Then the second book hit me. Damn it. Just.. DAMN IT! I wanted to call the police and report what just happened to me against my will. I'm seriously scared of Britt and what she will do to my soul in Book 3. But I'm still here for it, so what does that say about me?

Britt Andrews has done it again - She has somehow blown all expectations of this book and blown it out of the park. Book two left off where the last one ended - and it is seriously amazing I finished it around 9pm and then couldn't sleep because I was left wandering what was going to happen next - An absolutely amazing book with one killer Cliffy!!

I felt like this installment of the series had more to the story than the first book. However, I found myself continually hoping for the next chapter to be a certain character's perspective based on what was happening in the current chapter and it was almost always not from that point-of-view. Like, I'd want the next chapter to be from Fischer's perspective so I could hear about everything he's been picking up emotion-wise from new characters but then the next chapter would be from one of the people in a completely different realm.

I was also kind of indifferent about the way the "betrayal" played out. She claimed to be p*ssed at the guys and suspicious of their motives, but then still super trusting since she .

Then, there's the pet/nicknames. They were exhausting in book one and excessive in book two. They really took away from the story because I couldn't stop rolling my eyes. And it's not just that there were too many (though there were too many), but some of them were really bad. My least favorites being Baggie, Guppy, and Thunder Daddy.

- Saige: Sprout, Red, Little witch, Firefly, Tiny warrior, Goldie, Cub, Wild one
- Cam: Daddy, Thunder daddy
- Fischer: Fish, Guppy, alter ego is Faris
- Kaito: Kai, K, black panther is Bagheera aka Baggie
- Laurie: alias is Laura
- The guys' superiors sometimes refer to them by their last names
- Traditional terms of endearment are also used (e.g., baby, sweetheart), though they didn't bother me

In these types of books where I already have to keep a larger-than-normal amount of characters straight, it'd be great if the names weren't overdone.

I'm honestly not sure if I'm going to continue. This cliffhanger baited me more than the first book, but .

Eh

That two star is for both books together. If you’re here, you’ve read the first book. I almost dnf, alpha men and their k*nk..always make me skeevy. The first scene was amazing and it gave me hope. Two alphas being alpha to each other!? Amazing, perhaps this would free up the FMC from the tired troupe of somehow being ab*sed but loving being absolutely dominated and into BD*M like there’s no tomorrow. I was wrong, all the dudes were like that and I started to skim their scenes after that. Plot was okay so I picked this one up. I was really digging it until the end. No one likes cliffhangers but dang, I got over the cliche smut in the first book just to finally jive with the plot and bam? Our FMC doesn’t have her time with her fifth (which I was hoping would be sweet and somewhat normal and free of triggering pet names {I shiver thinking about “daddy”}). And then the cliffhanger? It felt kinda rushed, there were some things hanging (missing feline anyone?) and I was waiting for it to pop up. I don’t know if we’ll get it next book? I’m confused, might not read. May read just to flip to the end. Good writer, strange relationship dynamics that cooled off a bit in this book which was great but didn’t really get us to the finish line with the whole group. I’m on the fence with this so far, very mixed, hence the title “Eh”.

I'm happy with this sequel. We got more romance, steamy scenes, and magic and I need more! I love Kai and his panther Bagheera and his relationship with Saige is so cute. We also learned more about Bram and Saige's mysterious mother and heritage. I knew I shouldn't trust a certain someone and now I'm hoping they're killed slowly in the next book.

I enjoy seeing the guy's points of view and how they're falling in love with Saige. The romances are a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to more of the guys loving each other too. Now I need to start the next book because that cliffhanger was brutal!

I've been excited about this release since the end of the first one. This book was just as engaging and keeps you on the edge of your seat. There are so many OMG moments and you feel all the emotions. Britt does a great job of pulling the reader in and making you devour the pages. The ending will have you wanting to throw your kindle, but I kind of love those endings. Multiple POV. Steamy. MM. Cliffhanger. Some trigger warnings at the beginning of the book to be aware of. Love the world building and the relationships. Grams as always, an absolute delight. Can't wait for the next one!

Let me start off by saying that I am NOT ok. I am so far away from ok. Britt needs her author privileges revoking until she can learn to play nice.

I made a few notes as I was reading this book, and by notes, I mean jotting down the chapter number and then an array of emojis. These were my most used emojis: 🔥😭🤣

“Look at me now, catching dicks left and right like a gods damn snake charmer.” - Saige, The Magic of Betrayal

This book literally took me through everything. I was laughing, crying, on edge, little bit (super) hot under the collar. Everything. Saige, she has always been sassy, but it came with a lot of insecurities due to her previous relationship. She definitely starts coming more into her own in this book, she’s finding that fire and boy does that make for some HOT scenes. So hot. (Book 1 was HOT, this definitely is right on up there with it).

Daddy Cam, Kai, Fischer, Sloane - my heart 🖤 I love that we got a bit more of their backstories and I still love the multiple POV in these books.

“Every time you’ve visited me here, all I can think about is when I’ll stumble into you the next time. You smell like leaves crackling on a raging fire, like fresh steel and wet soil after the rain, my favourite scents.” - Bram, The Magic of Betrayal

We see so much more of the dream guy in this book and he is my kinda crazy. I love that we got to see his story develop along with their potential relationship. I cannot wait until they finally come together. I am ready for that thing he can do 🤨

The last few chapters broke my heart. I was expecting some of it, but not that. Never that. It needs fixing. FIX IT BRITT!

This is book 2 in a DEBUT series and it is just as good as book 1. I really want to highlight that Britt Andrews is a newish author and the books she has written so far are phenomenal and have blown me away. If you are yet to pick up The Magic of Discovery, do it now.

P.S. GRAN IS LIFE! 😍
P.P.S. I NEED BOOK 3 PLEASE 🙏🏼

WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT ENDING?!?! 🥺🥺🥺 I'm speechless. Give me a minute to just digest everything that just happened.. this book is a little bit brutal 😅 my heart was pretty much shattered start to finish. Thank the stars for Bram as he had me laughing my head off. Him and Saige bounce off each other so well... but our poor guys 😭😭💔💔 tell me there is a twist and what I think had been done hasnt actually happened!! How am I meant to go sleep with that cliff hanger looming over me, pretty sure it'll haunt me in my dreams!! Nope. I'm off to read at least the first 2 chapters off the next book before bed.. lots of twists and turns, the brilliant storyline continues and was just as addicting as the first book. I need monster Saige right about now 😠😠 so much is happening I cant even cope 😂 I'm sure this is another of my reviews that wont make any sense to anyone who hasnt read this series yet 🤣 sorry about that. My adrenaline is pumping and making me ramble on in riddles 🙈 annnnyway, I'm off to start the next book! Ciao!! 🖤

I HAVE SO MANY EMOTIONS RIGHT NOW

This book was so good! Bram is by far one of my favorites! He brought so much laughter into this series, and I didn’t think that was even possible because of how funny it was already. Very hot scenes, very spicy! I loved them all! The last few characters had me bouncing in my seat. I couldn’t stop reading this. Fuck Faris and Laurie ! All hail Saige! So many emotions. I can’t wait to see what happens next!
