Amish Inn #3

A Season of Change

Rate this book
Two sisters have their hands full with matchmaking for their new employee, Rose, and the handsome handyman who just moved to town—all while trying to get to the bottom of who could be one of their own secret admirers. Sisters Esther and Lizzie have a new employee, Rose Petersheim, to help them tend to The Peony Inn. But their old matchmaking ways have stayed the same. The sisters focus their efforts on the lovely twenty-five-year-old Rose. Though Rose is witty and outspoken, her nervous chattering makes her the best match for someone calm and good at listening. Someone like Benjamin—the handsome handyman who recently moved to town. But when Esther receives an anonymous love letter and flowers, Rose’s love life is no longer the only one capturing the sisters’ attention. As they sleuth around searching for Esther’s secret admirer, they uncover that their grumpy renter, Gus, has a secret of his own that could bring about a difficult change in all their lives. And their continued meddling in Rose’s affairs reveals she, too, is hiding something—an old wound that could threaten her future happiness. As Rose, Lizzie, Esther, and Gus struggle to release the weight of their pasts, they discover that although people are complicated, love doesn’t need to be. This charming third installment of the Amish Inn series from bestselling author Beth Wiseman is a picture of loss and healing in which forgiveness will prove to be the greatest act of love.

This is a Amish Fiction, and this is the third book in the Amish Inn series. I have read the other books in this book series before picking this book. In this book you really get a deeper look into the main characters (Rose, Lizzie, Esther, and Gus) of this book series. In this book one of them finds love and one of them is in a fight for their life. I cried so hard by the end of this book. I love these characters so much. I will keep reading this book series. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Zondervan) or author (Beth Wiseman) via NetGalley, so I can give an honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.

Esther and Lizzie Zook run The Peony Inn with help from their latest helper, Rose. The sisters, Esther and Lizzie enjoy playing matchmaker and their latest target is Rose. They have decided to match up their extroverted, talkative helper with the quiet, introverted newcomer, Benjamin. Esther is surprised when she receives a bouquet of flowers with a sweet note from a secret admirer. Lizzie wants to find out who left them for Esther, and she sincerely hopes it is not Gus. Gus takes off for a few days which worries Esther. She wonders what he is up to and is he alright. Lizzie and Esther’s latest match-up has hit a roadblock. Lizzie is sure they are meant to be together and sets out to figure out what went wrong. Join Esther, Lizzie, Rose, Gus, and their rest of the family at The Peony Inn.

A Season of Change by Beth Wiseman is the 3rd An Amish Inn Novel. It can be read as a standalone, but I highly recommend reading all three books in the sweet series. There is a great cast of characters. I love the sisters, Esther and Lizzie. They are entertaining and had me laughing. The secondary characters are just as developed. Rose is the latest helper at the bed and breakfast. She has not revealed her past and Rose chatters nonstop (at least it feels that way to Esther sometimes). I am glad that we get to learn more about Rose. Gus is his usual cantankerous self who loves to rile up Lizzie. I am glad that we got to catch up with Naomi and Amos plus their twins as well as Jayce and Evelyn. I found A Season of Change to be well-written with steady pacing. There are good life lessons in this story. It is never too late to find or give forgiveness. The other lesson is to always be yourself. The right person will come along who will love you just as you are. This was a novel that I did not want to rush through. I wanted to savor each moment. A Season of Change is a touching tale. You will need to have the tissue box nearby for the emotional ending. The epilogue was sweet. A Season of Change is an emotional Amish story with baseball bat combat, cat food feedings, a parent problem, flower reconnaissance, numerous naps, and a family of friends.

Esther and Lizzie are sisters which run an Amish Inn called the Peony Inn. The sisters are a hoot and they contrast each other in many different ways. The one thing that they enjoy doing is match making. Now that Rose is working for them, they are looking for opportunities. Rose left her own family and living with the sisters Rose has found a family with her new employers. Rose loves to talk. She has a nervous tick in speaking which comes from her past. The sisters have tried to match her with eligible bachelors however, the rambling speaking has turned some of these bachelors off. The sisters find a new family in town with a young man Benjamin who has struggled with conversation. A match made in heaven. Not so fast- Rose decides that talking to much and not listening enough is not working for her so she turns quiet on her first date with Benjamin. It becomes awkward until they kiss good night and the sparks fly. Rose and Benjamin have different feelings about their first date of awkwardness and the kiss that they cannot forget.

With humor from from the sisters, facing a hurtful past, Benjamin and Rose find a way to be themselves. I enjoyed the candor of Benjamin and Rose. Rose fighting a hurtful family that lead to her nervous chatter and ultimately learning to live in victory and not shame. It was a sweet romance with another romance that was underlying with Esther and their neighbor. It was humorous and touching. Many life lessons in romance in the battles that others wage in their hearts.

A special thank you to Zondervan and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.

Beth Wiseman's Amish novels are comfort reads. Love the way she makes me feel part of the story. And her characters! So much to love about them!

Like Lizzie and Esther, septuagenarian sisters who run an Amish Inn (hence the name of the series.) These two are a hoot -- equal parts exasperating and hilarious and then, all of a sudden, they are tugging at my heartstrings. And there's nothing these sisters love more than matchmaking their hired help. In fact, they are so good at it they have to keep hiring new employees when the others are married off!

Rose comes under their scrutiny as a potential match for another newcomer to the area. Alas, things don't always go as planned under these matchmaking mismanagers! Their shenanigans balance out the more serious aspects of Rose and Benjamin's romance...which very nearly doesn't get off the ground courtesy of Lizzie and Esther's meddling!

There's also a tender, bittersweet subplot involving the sisters' cantankerous neighbour which had me laughing and crying in turns. I met Gus in the first Amish Inns novel and he is definitely a memorable character. I somehow missed the second book, An Unlikely Match, but I'm about to remedy that! I think this third book could be read as a standalone but I am glad that I had some of Gus's back story going into this final instalment.

Wiseman touches on some serious subject matter with both humour and compassion and I appreciated the myriad of faith threads that wove all these characters' lives together. A moving conclusion to a captivating series.

I was so excited to check back in at the Peony Inn. I was welcomed back to the inn by the elderly sisters Esther and Lizzie. It was so good to see Rose who is still so chatty but there seems to be so much pain behind the chatter. Esther and Lizzie want to get back to their matchmaking and they have their eyes on Rose. They think that the newcomer to town, Ben, would be a good match for her since he is so shy, but will opposites attract? I wasn't sure if I would want to become reacquainted with Grumpy Gus, the elderly neighbor that lives in one of their cottages, but in this book he grows on the reader!

Thanks so much to netgalley and the publisher for the arc. The opinions are my own!

This is the third book in the series. And i did not read the first 2. Can you read IT as a standalone. I would say No, because you have missed So much of the history that happened before. Did I like This book? Yes. IT was very good. I liked that IT was about young love, mature love. It was about letting go and forgive People that Hurt you in the past. IT deals with death in a sweet way. Thank you to netgalley for letting me read This e arc in exchange for an honest opinion

This book is the third in Beth Wiseman's "The Amish Inn" series , reconnecting readers with the Peony Inn and its quirky, humorous owners, Lizzie and Esther as well as the cranky old man, Gus and Rose, the young woman who is never short of words! What a delightful read!! This novel is Amish fiction at its best! Beth's unique style of storytelling grabs the reader and immediately pulls one into the lives of these dear folks allowing us to experience their adventures alongside them. The characters are so realistically and well described that one easily identifies with each of them.

The plot is fast moving with unexpected surprises constantly cropping up. I could not put this book down once I started to read!! Humor had me laughing out loud at times, while other situations had me near tears. The message of forgiveness and redemption comes through loud and clear throughout this story. It was certainly a roller coaster ride as I followed Rose and Benjamin's developing romance as well as that of two dear older individua

Definitely, a five star book!! This author has done it again, written another winning novel!!

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley and the publisher. The thoughts and opinions expressed are honest and my own.

A Season of Change is a delightful story filled with relatable characters that had flaws along with beautiful characteristics. It was nice to catch up with the characters of this series and being introduced to Benjamin. Rose’s and Benjamin’s are opposites but Esther and Lizzie were still sure of a match. I laughed often reading this tale with the antics of the different major characters. Beside the lovely romance story the theme of overcoming the past and finding peace with God was lovely woven in. There were tender and emotional moments that had me in tears with a character facing death. This is my favorite book in this series with the wit and pain of the characters and the unpredictability of what was going to happen. I couldn’t stop reading till the end. I highly recommend reading the entire series in order for fans of Amish fiction and romance.

A heartwarming read of new romance and faithful friends.

Lizzie and Esther have all they can handle, matchmaking for their new employee while trying to get to the bottom of who could be Esther's secret admirer/stalker. A heartwarming read, filled with charm, humor, and plenty of heart.

I think this was my favorite book in the series, Rose and Benjamin are so adorable together, a sweet story of opposites who attract. I loved revisiting Lizzie and Esther, as they get up to their usual mischief, bring heart and hilarity in equal measures. I especially loved the way that Gus has grown so much as a character over the course of the series with a kind heart under all his gruffness, and I loved his friendship with the sisters.

Overall, this was a satisfying read, filled with sweet moments, as well as others that tugged at my heartstrings. A heartwarming novel of romance, friendship, faith and community.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

I really enjoyed going back to Esther and Lizzie's bed and breakfast again! This time it's Rose's chance at love with newcomer Benjamin. She's talkative and he's not...or is she? There are a few mysteries...like who sent Esther a bouquet of flowers. Esther and Lizzie are on a mission to find out who the secret admirer is or as Lizzie calls him "suspect number 1, suspect number 2 or suspect number 3". And also, where did Gus disappear to and what happened in Rose's past? Once again we get to see snippets of previous characters in this series which is always nice.

If you're in the mood for a sweet, clean Amish romance, you'll definitely enjoy this. It's best to start at the beginning of the series so you get the full scope of what's really going on in their lives.

Great series by Beth Wiseman!

Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review. All opinions are my own.

Excuse me while I finish sniffling. I am NOT OK! This book was nowhere near as lighthearted as the first two but oh it was just as good. A moving tale of overcoming your past to find love.

If you have read the previous two books you know the nit picking and poking Lizzie and Gus do to one another. They continue that sparring but we come to understand more of each’s reason why. From the beginning of the series Gus has been my least favorite but by the end he became my second favorite. We learn so much about Gus and realize he has a heart under that tough exterior.

My favorite character is Rose. She just needs love and understanding to find her way and what better place than the Peony Inn.

I suggest you read this series in order so you can experience the full emotional range of all the characters. If you chose not to read in order you will be ok.

Warning: Do not read the last 20% in public unless you wants others to see you ugly cry.

A Season of Change by Beth Wiseman is a wonderful addition to this series. I was given an ARC of this book by Zondervan Fiction through NetGalley and was not required to give a positive review.

Esther and Lizzie are elderly sisters who own The Peony Inn. We are introduced to Rose and Benjamin as we continue stories about old friends, Gus, Evelyn, Jayce, Amos, and Naomi.

Beth shows us through this story that it is never too late to be forgiven or to be forgiven. With this forgiveness, there is a way opened to learn to be able to accept and appreciate changes as we go through the seasons of our lives. You will laugh, cry and feel a thousand emotions as you read this book.

This is such a great story and Beth does an outstanding job of telling it. It is a 5-star read from the beginning unit the end. You really need to order yours today. You will not be able to put it down. The publication date is October 5, 2020.

I will miss Lizzie. Her spirit and spunk were awesome, but I'm kinda glad she's not my sister!

These three stories that formed a make shift family were wonderful but this won touched me the most. I cried a couple of times and laughed out loud a good bit. Thank you Beth Wiseman for all the new friends I made at the Peony Inn.

There was no Amish community involvement or a real sense that this book was about Amish people. Repetitive emotional thoughts throughout and way too much physical attraction talk. I also don't want to read books with all the weight of death and regrets and abuse!

What a pleasure it was to return to the Peony Inn and reconnect with my delightful friends—matchmaking sisters Lizzie and Esther, chatty Rose, and endearing Grumpy Gus! This third installment of the Amish Inn series is my favorite of the three. Humor mixed with angst ran the gamut of my emotions with laugh-out-moments and teary-eyed ones. A quickly moving plot with surprising revelations and unexpected twists kept me wanting to know more. I was inspired by the message of forgiveness and redemption. I thoroughly enjoyed this touching, entertaining book and highly recommend it. I think you will enjoy this book and the series even if Amish fiction is not your go-to genre.

Lol I laughed and laughed until I cried throughout this book and then I really cried. Oh my!
I knew it! I knew it! I knew it was him!
I'm not saying who though. I guessed it from the beginning.
I do want to say that I'm happy that Rose finally got her own story and it was worth the wait! My heart really went out to her.
There's just times that I really wanted to smack Lizzie and other times I wanted to hug her. She's my favorite character because she isn't afraid or ashamed to show who she truly is inside and out. Wiseman made her just perfect. I wish I was more like Lizzie.
I loved this story and I did not want to say goodbye to all of my friends. These characters will always have a special place in my heart most especially Gus. Cantankerous old man. But, I have to admit that even though he was hard in getting to know I appreciated that he tries. Some people are like that.
I think Esther reminds me of my father in law the most. Mainly because of her role as peacekeeper in the family. She really had her job cut out for her. But, my admiration for her kept growing.
A truly delightful story with wonderful characters that will melt your heart immediately. You'll be thinking about them long after the story is over.
I highly recommend!
My thanks to Zondervan publishers for a copy of this book. I was NOT required to write a positive review. All opinions are my own.

A season of Change is a very inspiring story written by Beth Wiseman in The Amish Inn novel series. As we are taken back to the Peony Inn we find the two elderly inn owners Ester and Lizzie up to their matchmaking skills again. This time may prove a bit harder with the two young people they are trying to match. Within this story there is another story which involves grumpy old Gus that also lives on the grounds of the inn. Ester and Gus are friendly but Lizzie and Gus are forever snipping at each other. But as Gus' secret is revealed this all may change but with which sister? I was brought to tears throughout this story and was hoping for a different outcome. I will miss some of these characters. This story made me realize you never know who you will be able to help in life. Such an amazing story all the way around

I was not given a complimentary copy of this book to read and review. I was not approached to post a favorable response and all opinions are my own and honest. I have rated this story with five stars for meeting my expectations of a wonderful story that I can highly recommend to others.

I enjoyed returning to The Peony Inn and seeing that the two sisters are still up to their matchmaking ways. They're a hoot! But sometimes they overstep. This time, they're distracted from their efforts for Rose when Esther receives a surprise gift. Is it from a secret admirer? Or a stalker?

There were heartbreaking and poignant moments in this book. Rose's past rises up and threatens her future. Gus, the curmudgeonly neighbor, and Lizzie are still going at it while Esther tries to bring out the better side of Gus that she knows is in there.

This is a story of pain and healing, forgiveness and redemption. It was a good reminder to embrace those you love and to deal with the hurtful things in your life so you can move on without the weight. I hope there's another book in the series. I would love to learn more about Lizzie and her past and to find out why she and Gus were so antagonistic towards each other.

Thank you to Zondervan for providing me with a free e-copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

Beautiful Story

There is so much I want to say about this book, but in doing so, I feel I’d give too much away. Let me just say that this story is beautiful! I thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it. Beth Wiseman has written a beautiful story. It’s sweet, sad, moving, inspirational, touching, funny, romantic, bittersweet, heart wrenching and so much more. I hope that all of those adjectives don't turn anyone away from reading this wonderful story. Instead I hope the description piques your interest and curiosity and drives you to read it as soon as you can.
A Season of Change is the last book in Beth Wiseman's Amish Inn Novels series. Although it can be read as a standalone, I highly recommend that you read the entire series. You’ll be so glad you did!

I tried so hard to read as slow as I could because I didn’t want to end this journey. The characters have become like family to me and I don’t like goodbyes. Esther and Lizzie are so fun to read about. They made me laugh and shed tears when they faced difficult situations. They are back to meddling in someone’s love life again. Poor Rose will now be the focus of these ladies until she finds her true love.

This book gives a deeper insight into the characters and I enjoyed finding out more about them. Esther is a sweet person who finds good in everyone. She is patient and always willing to help others. Lizzie, well she is a feisty person who shares more than she should at times. They both mean well but Rose will have to endure their well meaning meddling.

Without a doubt my favorite in this entire series is Gus. Oh I know he is a grumpy old man, but deep down he is a hurting person who wants to be loved. I have always thought he had feelings for Esther so I was anxious to see where the author would take their relationship. Lizzie and Gus have this love/hate friendship but we all know they act like brother and sister. We get to see a softer side of Gus at one point which made me cry. This man so desperately wanted to know God and this part of the story is very emotional. It is an exceptional lesson about forgiveness and redemption. I won’t give anything away but don’t overlook the message that it is never to late to have a relationship with God.

Rose starts to deal with her past and realizes she needs to talk to someone about her childhood. I cried for the little girl who was abused and felt unwanted. I felt her pain when her mother didn’t protect her. I prayed that she would give her bitterness to God and find peace. The author delivers a look at child abuse in a sensitive way and takes readers through Rose’s personal struggle with forgiveness.

Benjamin is perfect for Rose if she could just learn to trust him. He tries so hard to seek a relationship but something is holding Rose back. Benjamin never pushes her to share and shows her patience while she fights the pain of her past. He is a good character and I liked how he never gave up on Rose. His compassion will help Rose see that she can trust him and allow him to be a shoulder to lean on.

I’m sad to say goodbye to this series but I know I will always remember each character. They play a big part in showing what family is and being an example of what unconditional love is. “Love knows no limit to its endurance, no end to its trust, no fading of it’s hope…”

I received a copy of this book from the publisher and the author. The review is my own opinion.

A Season of Change by Beth Wiseman is a poignant yet uplifting Amish romance. While this newest release is the third book in The Amish Inn Novels series, it can be read as a standalone. However, I highly recommend reading the first two novels as well.

Lizzie Glick and Esther Zook are widowed sisters who turned their home into a bed and breakfast. Since the summer has been unusually hot, The Peony Inn does not have many visitors. This turns out to be a good thing as Lizzie and Esther continue their matchmaking and learn their longtime boarder Gus Owens’ secret.  Esther also seems to have a secret admirer whose identity Lizzie is determined to uncover. Neither sister is looking for romance but they are curious who about who sent Esther a beautiful bouquet of flowers with a very unexpected message.

Twenty-five-year-old Rose Petersheim is a hard worker whose endless chatter sometimes wars on Lizzie and Esther’s nerves. They have counseled her to listen more and talk less but Rose finds it difficult to keep her thoughts to herself. When newcomer Benjamin King asks her out for a date, she is determined to follow their advice. But since he is very shy, their evening out is rather awkward.

Ben is frustrated with his inability to turn his sometimes tangled thoughts into words . He is tired of blind dates but he would like to marry and start a family. Ben is willing to give Rose a chance, but if their evening out does not go well, he is done with dating. Which is why he is very disappointed his dinner with Rose is so uncomfortable.

Ben remains intrigued by Rose, so he is delighted when she inadvertently reveals her true self to him after their disastrous date. Rose agrees to go out with him again and their romance begins in earnest. But the closer they become, she grows increasingly troubled by memories of her past.  As she tries to come to terms her fears, will Rose decide a future with Ben is not possible?

A Season of Change is an emotionally compelling novel with a heartfelt storyline and appealing characters. Rose is a spirited young woman who must decide whether or not to forgive the people who have hurt her. Ben is a charming man who is transformed by his relationship with Rose. Esther patiently continues her lessons of forgiveness and grace. Lizzie’s outspokenness leads to trouble when her well-intentioned interference backfires. With touching life lessons, Beth Wiseman brings this final installment in The Amish Inn Novels series to a bittersweet conclusion.

Season of Change is the third book in Beth Wiseman's series surrounding The Peony Inn, and sisters Esther and Lizzie, who own it. At the end of book 2, An Unlikely Match, they had taken on a new employee, Rose Petersheim, Season of Change focuses on Rose.

Esther and Lizzie love nothing more than matchmaking, but their newest employee has them stumped. When Rose is nervous, she chatters. Nonstop. Subject to subject to subject to subject, whatever pops into her head tumbles out of her mouth in a flood of words. If she gives them a headache, what man would want to listen to that all the time? Rose needs a calm, quiet man who is a good listener. Newcomer Benjamin King seems to fit the bill. Shy, quiet, and right around the same age as Rose, Ben seems a perfect match. Working with his mother, Lizzie sets them up on a blind date which ends up being a disaster, because Rose, determined to change her irritating chatty ways speaks only when spoken to, and since Ben doesn't speak much at all, the date is not a success, at least in Ben's eyes. Rose is ecstatic, thinking she's finally found the man for her, but when he doesn't call for another date, her hopes are dashed. What went wrong?

As if Rose's love life isn't enough, Esther receives flowers and a love note from a mystery sender, which puts both sisters into a tizzy. Then, they learn that their renter, Grumpy Gus, has a pretty big secret he's been keeping. Some things meddling can't fix. Is Rose's love life one of those things?

When I first met Rose in book 2, she gave ME a headache. I listened to both book 2 and 3, and the narrator did a fantastic job of "playing" Rose! I was amazed that she could read as fast as she was speaking. When I learned her story, I was much more sympathetic and understanding toward her.

I definitely enjoyed A Season of Change. It was especially good to catch up with the characters from books 1 and 2. Esther and Lizzie are the Abbott and Costello of the Amish world, made even funnier by Lizzie's ill-fitting dentures. If you enjoy Amish romance with a few snickers, mixed in among the deep pain of some of the
characters, you should start with A Picture of Love, move on to An Unlikely Match and finish with A Season of Change. Visiting the Peony Inn through these books was a hoot, and I can absolutely recommend them.

A Season of Change is the third book in the Amish Inn series but the first in the series I've read. My husband has read all of them though and loved them, recommending I read the first two, which I hope to make time for soon. With that being said I do feel as if I could easily read the other books in the series to quickly catch up in this series as there are many repeat characters especially the main characters.
This is such an emotional book with so much going on. I just loved all the characters especially the two older 70+ ages sisters who run the Amish Inn. One is outgoing and a bit pushy the other compliments her perfectly, she is reserved and not as apt to try new things or circumstances.
At the inn they have a cook/housekeeper named Rose, now this sweet Amish girl has a beautiful personality, is bubbly and outgoing and if you let her she'll talk your ear off. The inn's guests love her for it. When Rose overhears the sister's talking about her saying maybe the reason she can't get another date with the men she goes out with is because she talks too much, she takes it to heart.
She is so excited to go on a date with handsome Benjamin and knows she'll put into practice her "quiet" self. Benjamin is quiet himself and needs a mate that is a bit more talkative to balance him out . Benjamin is so disappointed that Rose is so quiet and though he can't stop thinking about her he can't go on another date with her because she is so quiet.
I did like the character Gus as well, a man living in one of the cottages on the property. Gus has a secret he's keeping. Rose, Gus, and innkeeper sisters Lizzie and Esther all have things in their past holding them back that they need to work through.
Keep the box of Kleenex nearby you're going to need it multiple times in this emotional and compassionate love story.
I greatly look forward to the next book in this Amish series.

The final book in the Amish Inn series. It was so wonderful to see old friends again! The sisters, Esther and Lizzie are such a delight! Esther is a larger woman and more practical than her tiny sister, Lizzie. While Lizzie is doing better at keeping her dentures inside her mouth, she does still, on occasion, spit them out or even move them around inside her mouth. It's so easy to picture the two of them running the Inn and doing their matchmaking.
Their employee is Rose, who showed up in the previous book. While Rose is a great housekeeper, she can't seem to ever stop talking. It can be tiresome and overwhelming to the two older sisters. It also seems to be a deterrent to Rose finding a husband. Well, actually even finding someone who wants to date beyond the first date.
Then, there's Gus, the grumpy old man who lives on the property. But, when Gus gets back news, everyone is there for him. You'll even begin to love 'ole Gus.
Rose gets another first date, and after overhearing the Sisters discussing her 'constant talking,' she resolves to be a better listener and talk less. Far less. That date is a disaster as her date is shy, and was actually looking forward to going out with a girl who liked to talk. Rose, on the other hand, thought the date went well since she had talked so little. Talk about perceptions!
This was my favorite book in this series. Don't shy from reading it if you didn't read the previous two books in this series. You'll still love it! Great characters and great writing!
I was given an advanced ecopy by the publisher, Zondervan and Netgalley. I was under no obligation to leave a positive review.

This was such a romantic and beautiful book that bought tears to my eyes.

My interpretation of the book:

I truly loved every page and word of the book. I can't wait to read more of this series. (I made the mistake of reading the series not in order. Whoops!)
