I'm the author of forty+ books for children, including the best-selling Twas the Evening of Christmas, I Wonder: Exploring God's Grand Story, The Wonder That is You, and six popular series: Love Letters from God, Snuggle Time, Little Mole, Twas, Good News and Bedtime Blessings. Here's my little story...
Although I live in Michigan, USA, I was born and raised in a little village in northern England.
I grew up in a big old house, with two wonderful parents and seven siblings. My dad was the one who introduced me to the gospel. My mum was the one who encouraged me to work with children.
And at primary school, my teacher was the one who urged me to write. One day a week, I was one of the lucky few withdrawn from the classroom to sit in big, comfy armchairs in the teachers' lounge. There, in front of a roaring log fire, with pencil and paper at the ready, I would write.
Four long decades later, I would find myself living across the pond, married to a wonderful man, mum to four adult children and three daughters-in-law, and grandma to three bouncing boys and one gorgeous girl. And as if all that wasn’t blessing enough, I somehow became an author, despite giving up on my first book halfway through.
And if you would have told me then, that this book would one day become a series, that I would begin a second series, and a third… I never would have believed you. The only possible explanation is that our great God is able to do immeasurably more than all I could ever ask or possibly imagine.
Aimed at very young children, this padded board book tells the story of Easter from Palm Sunday all the way to when the resurrected Jesus has breakfast on the beach with his disciples. It is sensitive with events like the Garden of Gethsemane and Jesus' arrest and death, and also includes the Last Supper and the washing of the disciples feet. The Resurrection is focused on with joy, as is Mary Magdelene's encounter with Jesus and her news to the disciples.
As a parent and teacher, I really appreciate the introduction, which I think helps kids better grasp and synthesize the events they will read about. AND MY FAVORITE PART is the ending because it reminds kids that this story impacts their lives -- Jesus is with them. He loves them.
This sweet little book with a song of hope allows parents and kids together to walk through the Easter story starting with Palm Sunday through the Resurrection. The story is a difficult story for sensitive kids to hear but the author does a great job of conveying the hard circumstances while balancing it with hope and good news.
Snuggle Time Easter Stories is perfect for cuddling with your little ones and reminding them how much God loves them. Glenys Nellist masterfully wrote rhyming text that is soothing and filled with hope and joy. It affirms God's love for a child that builds the foundation for why we love and serve one another. Kids will have fun looking for the two adorable bunnies on each spread while they learn about Easter and the different emotions one might feel about Jesus' death and resurrection.
I want to thank the publisher for an advanced reader copy of this book. No review was required. All opinions are my own.
When my husband finished reading Snuggle Time Easter Stories with our 3 year old, our 3 year old said “I love it.” He loved the pictures and the stories. We loved that it told him the stories of Lent and Easter in ways that are accessible and age appropriate for a 3 year old. I will be giving this book to families and recommending to others in the church.
As the author, I am unashamedly biased, but my five stars go to Cee Biscoe, the talented illustrator, who once again manages to bring my words to life in this newest addition to the popular rhyming SNUGGLE TIME series. Recounting the entire Easter story for little ones, from the ride into Jerusalem to the resurrection, this 6th title in a padded-cover, board book format is just as colorful and engaging as the rest.
This book tells the events that occurred during Holy Week and the days following it, and it's another example of this author's ability to share God's Word in a way that children can understand. Glenys Nellist uses captivating poems and appropriate scripture to highlight the events that begin with Palm Sunday, and there are two little bunnies who get to witness the events that are such an important part of Easter and Holy Week. These bunnies are perfect attention grabbers for the little ones who try to find them among the colorful illustrations that depict Jesus and his followers engaged in foot washing, the Last Supper, and the breakfast on the beach following His Resurrection
Snuggle Time Easter Stories is another fantastic book from Nellist! She has a fervent desire to make sure that children are aware of God's love for them and she's been blessed with the amazing talent to make this happen! I'm always proud to give her books to my granddaughter and this book is certainly one of them! It's a wonderful way to share the true meaning of the Easter season with children, and it would be a perfect addition to a child's Easter basket. It would also be great for a church library!
I received a copy of this book from the author. There was no obligation for a positive review.
This is a board book of poems that highlights the stories around Easter from Palm Sunday to Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection to his charge to his disciples as they ate breakfast on the beach. You can read each poem separately or you can read the whole book in one sitting. I like that it helps apply the story to the reader’s life, too with the poems at the beginning and the end of the book. The illustrations are beautiful and will hold the attention of young readers. You can follow the bunnies on the cover through every spread in the book. Scriptures are mentioned on each spread in the book. I think this would be a great way to experience Holy Week with your 3-6 year old.
With whimsical illustrations and beautifully rhyming text, Snuggle Time Easter Stories takes children through the Easter story as told in the Bible, giving an honest yet gentle account of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection, as well as the fact that he continues to live in our hearts today. Author, Glenys Nellist, and illustrator, Cee Biscoe, have outdone themselves in this latest installment of their beloved Snuggle Time series that “sings a song of hope” you’ll want to read over and over again!
Glenys Nellist’s narrative about the Easter story demonstrates God’s love through her sweet rhyming text and biblical verses. Cee Bisco accents her muted illustrations with pops of color and leads little readers through the story with a pair of special furry friends. Both children and disciples are represented in a variety of subtle skin hues. This adorable, compact board book, with its padded cover, is perfect for small, busy hands and is a great introduction to an awesome part of God’s story. Children, their caregivers, and Sunday School teachers will love it!
Received a copy from publisher to post my honest review.
This book is designed for very young children but reminds all readers of the events and hopefulness of this holiest of weeks. The beautiful rhymes make it so that you can't help but read with an excited voice. The telling of these events through rhyme alongside precious pictures is done in a way that tells truth but gives clues to a larger story that can lead to further discussion for children who may be ready for more information. A perfect gift for young children.
Beautiful board book for families. Glenys Nellist is a poetic storyteller who has crafted this book to tell the stories of Holy Week and Easter for the youngest children. I highly recommend this book for families with young children who aren't sure how to share the stories around Easter. Snuggle Time Easter Stories – by Glenys Nellist and Cee Biscoe
Where to begin? This little board book is so much more than a little book. It’s great that it’s little for little hands and a board book that little ones don’t have to be so careful with. But, the truths in this wee little book are huge. In twelve short rhyming stories (each accompanied by a verse) it tells the hope and joy and even sadness of Easter in a way that gets a child and even us much older kids thinking about the real reason for Easter. Sure it has cute bunnies and flowers (beautiful illustrations!) but has so much more. I have a feeling it will be a tradition to read every Easter in my home.
I love Snuggle Time Easter Stories! I am always looking for age appropriate books for early childhood that tells the story of Holy Week and Easter. This is an excellent book. The illustrations are bright, cheery, and engaging. I highly recommend for families, churches, and Christian early childhood centers.
This beautifully padded board book is perfect for little ones. The lyrical and rhyming text retells the life-saving story of Jesus' life death and resurrection using age-appropriate language. The beautiful text and illustrations by Cee Biscoe, make this a must-read Easter story.
Snuggle Time Easter Stories is a delightful book to celebrate the Easter season with the young children in your life. It is the perfect size for little hands with a padded cover and thick pages. The illustrations are bright and cheery with a cast of darling animals, multi-racial children, and beautiful art showing scenes of Christ's life from Palm Sunday to the Resurrection. The text is perfect. Each spread begins with a verse from the bible accompanied by a two stanza poem explaining and elaborating the verse. Meant to be read aloud, families will enjoy this hope-filled book not only during the Easter season but all throughout the year. I am adding this title as the centerpiece of my Easter gift baskets and I suggest you do, too!
ANOTHER winner from Glenys Nellist: Author ! My 8 yr old read it and said "hey, this is a baby book but I like this a lot!" I always get interested in the way children's authors handle Easter from a Christian perspective. I was happily surprised to see foot washing (I've never seen that in a board book before!) And some real sadness on His death. So many books gloss over it, go straight to the tomb, or show the crosses with a beautiful sunset in the background. I was glad to see real sadness because it deserves it. ANYWAY, ITS GREAT! We've ordered another copy for a baby we love! Such a beautiful addition to any kid's library
This delightful new Easter book for the youngest readers captures the entire Easter story from Palm Sunday through Jesus' resurrection in short, rhyming text with charming illustrations. The book can be purchased at a discount by churches who want to buy in bulk. Please share this with your friends and family. Makes a perfect gift for a little one's Easter basket!
This Easter book is lovely, and perfect for little ones. I especially love how Jesus death/resurrection is handled (“and as you read this story of how Jesus lived and died, know that He is with you, and He’ll never leave your side”). The illustrations are also adorable!
This beautiful board book will make the best Easter basket gifts. The illustrations are bright and follow the two cover bunnies through a perfectly rhyming depiction of the true meaning and story of Easter.
My 3 year old son really liked this book. It's a great Easter book to learn about Jesus and Easter. It kept my son's attention and he asked to read it multiple times. I think this is a great book to add to a child's Easter collection.
Glenys has written an absolutely delightful collection of poems to introduce little ones to a fuller, yet gentle for preschoolers, understanding of the real meaning of Easter. Well done!
What a delightful book! Perfect way to introduce the true meaning of Easter. My son asked me to read it to him more than twice. Illustrations are super colorful which is a huge plus in our house.
