Are you filling your calendar or are you filling your soul?
In her latest book, productivity expert Tanya Dalton helps you to define your purpose and live with intention...even if you feel you are too busy to pursue your big dreams. She offers cutting-edge research and thought-provoking real life stories of women and leads you through innovative, yet deceptively simple exercises designed to help you understand:
Dalton doesn't tell you what to think. She empowers you to choose how to think. She doesn't help you fit in with the status quo; instead she shakes the foundation of how you view the world. Because it's your world, and it's filled with opportunities you might not even realize are there.
Living On Purpose isn't about changing who you are. It's about rising up and becoming the best version of you--adjusting your mindset so you can discover your daily choices. On Purpose will help you find the unhurried purpose that is hidden in each one of your days when you stay true to your soul's path.
I had the privilege of reading an advance copy of "On Purpose," by Tanya Dalton. I loved JOMO, "The Joy of Missing Out" and she has done it again! "On Purpose" is packed with meaningful, PURPOSEful, yet tactical ways to truly guide you on the path to "meaning and success." This book lives up to its meaty subtitle! Tanya Dalton writes in such a down-to-earth way that she makes me feel like I'm just hanging out with her and learning from her. I love that!
The world is filled with self-help books, however "On Purpose" isn't just another book in that genre. I would consider this book to be a "self-empowering" book that helps you create life-long change. It gives you the tools you need to choose YOU and enables you to live your life with the meaning we all crave for our days.
"On Purpose" will help you uncover your fears and USE them to help you on your journey, instead of being stalled by fear. One of my favorite quotes from the book states, "Fear is not your enemy. Fear can be your biggest ally." Fear is something that I struggle with, and I found this section so encouraging.
Most books don't have a practical guide at the end of each chapter. This one does. The author creatively gives a quick snapshot of "Lies that hold us back," "Truths that move us forward," and a "Springboard" for practical steps. The "Springboard" gives instructions on delving into the reader's guide or a quick practical task to send you on your way. If you like to use affirmations in your meditation or journaling practice like I do, each "Truths that move us forward" section gives so many statements that are great to use as affirmations. Be sure to use the reader's guide she gives you to help you dive even deeper in the book -- fabulous tool!
"On Purpose" is practically an interactive course to change. You need this in your library as a book you will continue to reference for years to come.
"It's time to choose to be awake in your own life"
I'm a new entrepreneur, and I've been following (and loving!) Tanya's work for over a year now. Tanya is incredibly inspirational and outspoken about all the things I care about: women's empowerment, living intentionally, and managing ourselves. Tanya has a superpower for combining funny, relatable language and stories with no-nonsense, tough love, ass-kicking truth bombs...all while distilling complex topics like productivity and goal setting into simple, easy-to-understand (AND easy to implement) processes.
She's brought all that and more to On Purpose. Throughout the book, she demystifies feel-good but vague concepts like purpose, living intentionally, and personal power...and actually walks you step-by-step through how to start living them. The downloadable Reader's Guide is *insanely* thorough, and really helped me translate what I was learning while reading into insights and actions that I can apply to my life.
This is NOT a book to read and then stick on a self. This is a manual for how to reclaim your life. In an age where our attention is constantly divided, On Purpose cuts through the crap and shows you how to reclaim your power, passion, and, yes, purpose to create a life you genuinely love. There's no way you can read this book and not feel empowered to make some REAL changes in your life!
Mostly Instagram quotes, Rachel Hollis type "you were made for more" motivational speak, and the refusal to acknowledge that people actually have real setbacks and hardships. Nothing new here.
Tanya Dalton is a nationally recognized productivity expert, bestselling author, and speaker who serves as a growth strategist for female leaders in the corporate and entrepreneurial sectors. She is also the founder and CEO of inkWELL Press Productivity Co., a business focused on helping women create fulfilling lives on purpose. Her popular podcast, The Intentional Advantage, has been downloaded more than 2.5 million times.
I loved this book and most especially all the cutting-edge research that Dalton includes with gorgeous graphs and illustrations I found useful. On Purpose helps to map the future, gain more confidence, and provides the tools to empower in order to live a more fulfilled life. The book is incredible in that it makes you feel that you have a personal guide that is helping you create a better version of yourself.
This is a must read for those looking to find purpose in their everyday lives while also finding success in their own terms.
Tanya Dalton's background as an educator is again apparent in her follow-up to The Joy of Missing Out. I especially related to Part 4 on Alteration. Knowing how to adjust your plans when things get off track is the difference between sanity and insanity! There are a ton of personal, relatable stories throughout the book that helped me re-center in our post-pandemic world. The tools in this book are easy to use and customize--I highly recommend you download the free workbook from her website.
**I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.**
I was lucky enough to be able to read an advanced copy of this book (thanks Tanya and NetGalley). I read The Joy of Missing out when Tanya released it a few years ago and loved it. I'm happy to report she has done it again!
On Purpose is a wonderful book that helped me really examine what is important and gave me tips and advice on how to prioritize those items. I find it so easy to have my days sucked away with things that other people have made a priority but that don't align with my goals and values. This book reminded me that what I need and want matters and that it is not selfish to pursue things that matter to me!
Tanya writes in such a conversational manner I really enjoy everything she has put out. If you love this book check out Inkwell Planner as she has a goal planner that looks like it aligns so well with her strategies in the book and I can't wait to get mine!
I own a teacher-education business and am always looking for things to help me as I'm growing in my business life. I've listened to Tanya's podcasts for years and have seen how her own business has grown and evolved. I also read her first book and found it helpful and easy to read. This book follows her easy to read style and gives examples of real women that she has worked with in her programs to illustrate the points she is making, that to live the life that you really want, it takes choices and prioritization.
This book is for someone who is beginning the journey to figure out what they want, or who know what they want but still need guidance to get on the right path. It would not work well with someone who is far enough down the road that making intentional choices and priorities are already a regular part of business and personal life. Tanya gives a lot of advice on changing mindset so that making those types of choices seems more possible, and the downloadable reader's guide is really helpful to put those mindset shifts into action. I would highly recommend using the reader's guide as you go along.
There are two things that I didn't care for in this particular book. The first is that she mentions studies that she read that support her arguments, but those studies are not cited so that anyone could go to the source and read for themselves. As a data nerd with a PhD, that's a glaring omission. Of course, this is not an academic book, but I would still expect a notes section with relevant studies included. The second thing is that while there are a few mentions of women with serious life circumstances and caregiving responsibilities that are outside of their control, there is a whole segment of reality that is ignored. For many women, working multiple jobs to make basic ends meet is a daily reality that leaves very little time, headspace, or heart space for thinking anywhere past the next paycheck. There are many systemic, relational, and practical obstacles that make prioritization of the type Tanya describes very, very difficult. Perhaps not impossible, but I know if I had read this book while that was my daily reality, I would have felt incredibly defeated and discouraged. It is hard to think to a better future when the present is so draining and all-consuming. So this book perhaps is not for the woman who is living that reality right now, though that's perhaps just a personal opinion.
I received an advanced reader copy of the book in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.
A much needed, truthful conversation with a friend. Tanya's writes like she is on the otherside of the couch and helping a dear friend rethink how she moves in her own life. She changes the way you think and encourages you to see the choices you make each and every day. How those tiny moment by moment choices add up to living your life On Purpose. The reading guide and graphics throughout the book give you the extra support you need to start taking action. This is not a book to read once and put on a shelf. Have you highlighter and pencil ready.
If you are struggling to believe that you can actually have the life you want, On Purpose can definitely benefit you. As someone with ADHD, I’ve spent my life feeling like I’ve failed over and over. Tanya explains that it’s not just possible to succeed, but that failures are part of the journey. I found it to be highly motivating and encouraging, with her spunky humor thrown in. I would definitely recommend this to anyone just looking for some hope in finding purpose for your life. The book also includes a readers guide/discussion guide that is so helpful in getting more out of each chapter.
Love, Love, Loved the book. A definite rereader!!! Tanya has a knack for story telling and making you feel like she is talking to you and sometimes even about you. So many tips, tricks, and ways to redefine some hard or just boring things into useful and productive ways of doing them. We are the only ones that control of our lives and the more we can learn how to be and do everything On Purpose the easier and more purposeful we become. Thank you Tanya for sharing your gifts! Cant wait for what comes next :)
This book has had a huge impact on me already-healing my heart, mind, and soul! I am about half way through and it has been like a key unlocking so many things for me. I feel like I am able to start understanding what I’ve been holding on to, what’s been holding me back, and allowing me to know I’m not going to be the same later in life than I am today.
I love the way in which Tanya writes and that she include studies that really solidify what she shares.
Many thanks to all that I will gain in life now because of your words Tanya.❤️
I received an advanced copy of this book and was happy to see that Tanya kept the same no-nonsense yet humorous tone and style that she uses with her podcast and her first book "The Joy of Missing Out" (JOMO). While this book does great as a stand alone, it does build on some of the topics in JOMO as well as add several new areas for building the extraordinary life that each of us wants for ourselves and our families.
There is a reality based step by step outline that can be used by anyone to build the life they want. Each step allows the flexibility for the realities that happen in all of our lives which is a huge win for me.
The biggest takeaway for this serial list maker is that goals aren't just something to cross off a list to get that initial endorphin hit (guilty of that one!). They are the steps that will get you to the extraordinary life you want to live, so they need to be based in the reality that works for you, yet still allows you to dream big. Remember, flexibility and actions are key here.
As I'm setting my goals, the Reader's Guide for this book that is available as a download did help tremendously. However, I do wish there were more examples of folks utilizing each step and how they made those steps work for them, especially for women who either don't have children or they are grown.
So, I don't make so many lists anymore. Now, I'm doing real goal setting to build the life I want for me and my family going forward. Overall, well worth the time to read and work through the exercises. It made me rethink my whole list dependency and I'm grateful for that.
I was lucky enough to receive an advanced copy of On Purpose and once again Tanya delivers. This book is like having a friend next to you asking you, “Ok, but why do you do that? Does it make you feel satisfied?” If you take the time to pair the book with the resource guide —- and you should — get ready for a mindset reset. Tanya draws you in and encourages you to think differently. With each chapter you will find yourself feeling empowered to live the life you want. One of my favorite quotes is: “You have a choice: Feed your lies or feed your truth.” #onpurposebook
As an emerging CEO of my company I found Tanya Dalton a few years back via her podcast. Something about her wit, her charisma, her confidence, spoke to me. This was a woman in business to whom I could relate. As I followed her, more and more opportunities for me to grow in my business and as a person, with Tanya as a guide, became available. Each opportunity landed at just the right time with just the right frame of reference for me.
This marvelous new book, On Purpose, is just such an opportunity. I took my time reading it and working through the Reader’s Guide. In each chapter, I feel like Tanya is coaching and speaking directly to me. The chapters end with a recap, “lies that hold you back,” and “truths that move you forward,” and a “Springboard” action to get unstuck. I love using the Truths as affirmations in my daily life. The reader’s guide has been an excellent tool as well to help uncover those layers that have piled on over the years.
Perhaps what I love the most is how Tanya has taken the huge task of Uncovering one’s purpose and has shared tools, exercises, relatable stories that help us to identify and pinpoint actions that truly propel us in the right direction.
Often, I feel the overwhelm with integrating life’s purpose into my work, in that, I know what I want to do, I know what I love, but having a framework and actions to help me identify what steps are on my path has been so amazingly valuable.
In the noise of coaching and life work, Tanya is a voice I return to again and again. Check her out and for sure order your copy. I look forward to reading and working through On Purpose again, perhaps this time with a group study!
This is not just another "success book" that sits on my bookshelf half-read. This is a book I looked forward to reading every evening. It became a delicious "me-time" experience! I recently learned about Tanya when I heard her speak at an online event. She was such an insightful speaker and cared so much about her audience. I knew that her book would be jam-packed with helpful insights and tips for her readers, so I bought a copy. This book exceeded my expectations. In "On Purpose: The Busy Woman's Guide to an Extraordinary Life of Meaning and Success", Tanya Dalton shows she truly understands the busy lives of women today and the blocks that stop them from creating the lives they want. Whether they are busy with career, family, community or all of the above, she speaks to the souls of women everywhere who want to feel alive, on purpose, and more fulfilled. I loved her conversational tone, her sense of humor, and the examples from her life and the lives of other women that I could identify with. Tanya helped me understand why I make the choices I do, what new choices I want to make, how to move forward, and how to handle those crazy curveballs that life will throw my way. I think my favorite chapter was Chapter 3 when she talked about adulting and how we "often end up living the way we think we are SUPPOSED to live, chasing other people's dreams or whatever it is we think we should be doing." Life doesn't have to be this way! I encourage you to read her book. She has a wonderful talent for helping you understand just how powerful you really are and then challenging you to claim your power and make choices in a way that will be a good fit for you!
I was so giddy to wake up early and start listening to this audiobook over my morning coffee. It feels like Tanya is right here with me chatting like an old friend.
She leads us through reflecting on why we make the choices we do, what choices we want to make in the future, how we can move forward on those choices, and what to do when life gets off track. Which we know it will. :)
I’ve already printed out the interactive reader’s guide to dive deeper and take action on the strategies she shares in the book.
Her Action Road Map helps ease the feelings of overwhelm, keep us accountable with a progress check-in and makes our big goals achievable.
Her Wayfinding Map helps us set our goals with priority landmarks.
She also helps us determine if our distracting activities that we choose are negative or nourishing.
Some of my favorite quotes:
“Magic doesn’t happen when life is centered and balanced, it happens when we lean into priority.”
“If something is a priority, I won’t put it off for Someday.”
“We can live each day On Purpose by choosing how we want to spend our time and where we focus our energy.”
“We can be so busy focusing on crossing that imaginary finish line that we end up missing all the meaningful moments in our everyday life.”
“Overnight success is a bedtime story that isn’t based on truth.”
“Numbers do not define you and they do not determine your worth.”
No doubt this will be your go-to resource for achieving your goals in 2022. I highly recommend it and to grab your girlfriends together for book club to cheer each other on.
Too often we underestimate our ideas or the words we say, and we don't think we can make that much of a difference. But it's the little things that can set off a chain reaction much bigger than ourselves.
3. Action Bagaimana kita menjalani pilihan kita. Termasuk juga gimana kita menginvestasikan diri: lewat usaha, kemampuan menyesuaikan diri dan tentunya bukan dari seberapa besar aksi kita tapi lewat langkah-langkah kecil yang kita ambil setiap harinya.
I received an early copy of this book. Boy, does Tanya deliver practical and effective thinking about goals and just the idea of "balance" while being a woman who focuses on what we want with purpose.
She uses a four-step process: 1. Reflection - to answer the question of why we make the choices we make 2. Projection - to answer the question of what choices we want to make 3. Action - to answer how to move forward on the action we're making 4. Alteration - to adjust to that what-ifs of life.
Because she's coming from a place of reality - that modern women are busy multifaceted individuals. Her approach can fit into most situations because it's a matter of deciding what we want and how to create the mileposts to get there.
There is also a reader's guide included with helpful exercises and bonuses. One of my favorite sections is the idea of shifting from anxiety to excitement rather than asking yourself to calm down - because anxiety and excitement use the same type of emotional energy. Moving from one mindset to another allows you to use fear as an advantage.
You won't regret the time spent reading and reflecting on this book - it is helpful for your improvement.
Looking for a friend who can help you get unstuck, give you some tough love, and push you into action? Look no further! You’ll find Tanya Dalton and her book to be your best companion.
As a working mother of three who has been tired of the daily grind, a friend suggested I read Tanya’s first book, The Joy of Missing Out. I have been following Tanya’s work ever since and was one of the lucky people to get an advanced copy of this new book!
I’ve found On Purpose to be a refreshingly honest guide to how to pave your path toward a life that you want (not should have). It’s pushing me to take a step back and think about the life I truly want and how to get there.
Have you been putting off decisions? Are you too overwhelmed to know where to start? Are you simply in need of motivation to map out your future? Do yourself a favor and read this book! It has great quotes and passages to keep you motivated for days to come. Plus the readers guide will push you to truly dig deep and choose life on purpose.
On Purpose: The Busy Woman's Guide to an Extraordinary Life of Meaning and Success by Tanya Dalton is Dalton's second sensational book in the realm of productivity and goal-setting. In the book, Dalton encourages the reader to ask difficult questions of herself, first, going back to what she once loved and, then, marching forward in time to find her Cathedral, or her most important dream and/or ideal future. Dalton's book is filled with extensive research and unique exercises to keep the reader curious and engaged while she shares ways in which to turn obstacles into opportunities, as well as daily, actionable steps to take toward a more fulfilling life. Toward the end of the book, Dalton confidently writes, "When you choose that you can and want to live differently, you will make it happen." Dalton's book demonstrates that even the most harried women can choose to live an "extraordinary life of meaning and success." Dalton, and her book, On Purpose, are inspirational, and this book deserves a space on women's shelves.
On Purpose: The Busy Woman's Guide to an Extraordinary Life of Meaning and Success is one of my all time favorites. Tanya Dalton has written a clear, concise book for any woman who wants to create their best life! She writes in a down to earth way that is very engaging. And she adds in her sense of humor which makes it even more fun to read! The stories she includes help cement in the ideas and practices too. One practice in particular really hit home for me. It's called the "Five Whys". Here's a short version so you get the idea. Write down a statement. Then ask yourself why you feel or think that way. Then write down the reason and again ask yourself why. This gets you to go deeper until you get to the 5th Why! The book is full of these practical yet full of wisdom practices. I highly recommend every woman read this great book. I just about can guarantee it won't sit on your shelf (as what I call shelf help, things you bought but never got around to reading)! Enjoy!
Are you currently living the life of your dreams? Or are you so caught up with the daily grind of the life that you’re leading that somewhere along the line you placed your dreams on a dusty shelf and forgot about them?
If you’re not passionately pursuing your heart’s desires or living a life that fills you with passion and purpose, then you need to pick up On Purpose – The Busy Woman’s Guide To An Extraordinary Life Of Meaning And Success by Tanya Dalton!
Tanya has done an amazing job of creating a framework and identifying the tangible steps that can shift our mindset and propel us towards success as we define it if we are willing to do the work...
This excerpt is taken from the original review that is published on my blog. To read my review in its entirety, please visit Create With Joy.
In the introduction, Tanya said something that deeply resonated with me: “We've been sold a life promise that isn't really true". It takes a lot of courage to step into the power of our choices. This book gives you the opportunity to pause, take a breath, and examine your life. It is frighteningly easy to fall into the trap of living your life based on other people’s expectations. With On Purpose, Tanya helps you find at each step what are some of the lies that hold you back and the truths that can help you move forward. This book will challenge you. So be prepared to take your blindfold off and face some uncomfortable truths. In the end though, you might find the exhilarating freedom that comes from realizing just how much power your choices hold. The greatest gift of this book is the confidence to choose to be in charge of your life.
On Purpose is the book I would give to my younger entrepreneur self, 8 years ago, when I was just starting out and trying to figure it all out. Even now, there were lessons in this book for me, reminders that I need to return to my gifts as my business grows and new opportunities emerge.
This book is a reminder of the power of intentionality and knowing yourself -- and not being afraid to just be yourself, in all the beautiful and messy brilliance of what that looks like. When you know what you want and plot your path, everything becomes possible.
On Purpose isn't about self-help; it's about self-empowerment and shows you what's possible with the right tools, tools you can (and will) use over and over again as you achieve your goals. Tanya really opens her heart to share her stories and writes in such an easy and enjoyable way that makes engaging with the material fun and compelling.
This book is a like a good conversation with a wise, no-nonsense friend. I really appreciated the affirmation that purpose is not necessarily some grandiose mission or accomplishment, but a collection of smaller, quieter things that lead us to a life of joy and contentment. Readers are encouraged to define themselves in their own terms and think broadly and far into the future about what they want.
The end of each chapter--a listing of lies that hold us back, truths that move us forward, and a springboard activity--sums up the key points nicely into actionable advice and easy-to-remember takeaways. This book would be of benefit to anyone as we all get to a point where we need a kind but firm kick in the pants to make sure we're using our time and energy in a way that serves us and the world!
Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!
As always, Tanya Dalton provides clarity and hope for anyone trying to find their true meaning and purpose in life. If you have ever wondered what your purpose in life was, how to live a life of intention, or how to fill your soul with what matters most, this book is for you! On Purpose walks the reader through figuring out what matters to you, how to care for yourself while pursuing your purpose, and how to, ultimately, live out your purpose well. If you feel like you aren't living up to your potential for a fulfilling life, you need this book! Tanya provides actionable strategies to turn unexpected events into opportunities, daily strategies for living up to your full potential, and actionable maps for figuring out your life purpose.
Author spent most of the time plugging her pdf guide handbook and giving encouraging self stories about lessons. It was entertaining even if I'm not going to follow through. Good things to keep in mind like down time for yourself and stress management and learning to prioritize yourself more than everything it's about how your mind goes towards these events and your reaction. Businessman mindset of not waiting for anyone to give you permission. Business woman i can respect especially the story about how she was able to suprise people with her job as CEO while her husband worked for her. Talked about empowering woman to fulfill purpose and dedicate time to themselves as well as finding passion in something greater than yourself, which i can respect.
To start, this is a self-help book. So it's going to be a little preachy, a little idealistic, and a little simplistic, like most motivational self-help books. But setting that all aside, I really enjoyed this book. It is motivation and purpose with a dash of practicality. Some of the lessons are repeated often in other books, but her encouragement to acknowledge and focus on what you truly want to do, and her recommended steps for getting to long-term goals were very helpful. I also was inspired by her encouragement to take control and responsibility for your emotions and choices while navigating external circumstances. Overall I felt this book was a good spark of inspiration and new thoughts for this time in my life.
Wow, what an amazing book this is. It shows you how to use your past as the fertile ground to build your future. A future that works for YOU. Showing you how you can do this while being present in the moment. Reading On Purpose was a collection of Aha Moments. Tanya has an amazing way of making hard things simple and easy by using metaphors everyone can relate to. And it's not only theoretical, she actually shows you the way, by giving you the tools to find your own way.
An absolute must read for every busy woman that wants to live a more meaningful life! Just finished my first read, and will go right ahead for my second time around.
