Poisoned Parrots : Don't believe everything you think!

Rate this book
'The nature of The Metaphorical Poisoned Parrot can grind you down, and it is very hard not to believe what it says.'Oliver Moorcroft returns home from school to his mother (Melissa) declaring a new relationship. His older brother Josh foretold the possibility of a second chance romance, whilst sitting smugly away from the nest pulling the strings, guilt-tripping the both of them. Oliver has been harboring a secret of his own however. Three of the college girls in the self-proclaimed 'populars' group have taken a 'proper' liking to him. That's all fine and dandy except.......he has no clue as to the expectations of the harem or how to go about fulfilling them. It's time for a voice of reason to emerge in the form of trusted friend Emily. Can her 'sensible' advice be heard above the constant chatter inside Oliver's head?Melissa too has the voices to contend with; coupled with a stalking presence in the shape of her ex-husband Ronnie. What chance happiness in the lives of these normal people? Poisoned Parrots is a Dark, Reverse Harem Romance. It contains some explicit content, and a smattering of coarse language. "Wickedly clever, charming and full of warmth. POISONED PARROTS is exactly the right combination of relatable characters and subtle plotting that triggers an abundance of fond memories." -- Amazon Reviewer"You can't help but compare to the size of your own family's emotional footprint! A captivating novel." - Amazon Reviewer

I received a copy of this book from Voracious Readers Only.

I really enjoyed this book. The characters are relatable and their situations are all too common. A divorced mom looking for a second chance at love. Her teenage son finding love for the first time. It's a sweet story, dialog is well written, and the characters are well rounded. With that being said though, the story ended entirely too abruptly with no closure to any of the plot lines. I would love to know what happens next for these characters. Talk about a cliffhanger!!

Will definitely keep my eyes open for more from this author.

Review through Voracious Readers Only

This was an interesting read. Was left on a cliffhanger so am intrigued to see where it leads. It was a story I've read a dozen times before but the Poisoned Parrots on the shoulder is something we all experience each day. Seeing how each different person was interpreting a situation was interesting as well. Misinterpreting situations is another thing we all do. Some good characters to continue building on.
Found a typo on one page.
It's a good start to the series

So, this was a solid read.

I quite enjoyed the characters and there were definitely moments where I giggled out loud because of Oliver and how he's just so awkward. Yet at the same time, aren't we all a little bit of a mess as teenagers? I liked the positive relationship between the two of them, though I do wish there was more to Josh's story. Overall, a rather sweet and interesting read and it definitely made me think of what kind of 'poisoned parrots' sit on my shoulder.

Thank you Voracious Readers and Felix Lane for my copy! All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Good Read

Received a copy of this book through Voracious Readers Only.

This book is a good read. I enjoyed the buildup to the end. It’s very relatable since we all have a “parrot” talking to us. Often saying things that aren’t fully true. One of my favorite lines from the book is “Hearing my thoughts being played back to me in his words from this weasel makes my see red.” This book is a worthwhile read. I definitely recommend it.

Good easy read

I received this book through Voracious Readers Only

I enjoyed reading this book and felt the book was very relatable. A mom trying to find love after divorcing her husband and raising her children solo for many years and her son trying to navigate awkward teenage dating. The poisoned parrot that we hear on our shoulders to make our lives even more complicated. Would definitely be interested in reading more from this author.

I read this book because it was free on Kindle. I liked the concept and it was a quite an okay book and easy read. It was quite strange that the book ended abruptly.

Some good writing & characters but overall a boring domestic tale. Worst of all the author never finishes the narrative, telling readers to email him.

A quick and easy read. It is a great story about family dynamics and a single mom getting back into dating but trying to maintain stability for her kids.
On the flip side, 2 kids must deal with what comes with being a youth and their mom looking for love.
It’s a heartfelt story and worth the read.
