The political consultant and best-selling author of We're Right, They're Wrong offers a definitive roadmap for freeing the country from influence peddling, war mongering, tax-cutting, environmentally devastating, hypocritical right-wing policies and politicians and outlines the problems--and solutions--for progressive Americans. 125,000 first printing.
James Carville is an former U.S. Marine, political consultant, commentator, actor, media personality and pundit. Known as "the Ragin' Cajun," Carville gained national attention for his work as the lead strategist of the successful presidential campaign of then-Arkansas governor Bill Clinton. Carville was the co-host of CNN's Crossfire until its final broadcast in June 2005. Since its cancellation, he has appeared on CNN's news program, The Situation Room. As of 2006, he hosts a weekly program on XM Radio titled 60/20 Sports with Luke Russert, son of NBC's Tim Russert. He is married to Republican political consultant Mary Matalin.
Though again I like how it is always the other party who is at fault. It is never the fault of the Democrats when a Democrat is writing nor is it the Republicans fault when a Republican writes the book. Though the story is old and about Bush 2's Presidency I find it funny he finds no fault in how his own party acted during the Clinton years (Chinagate, Whitewater, Filegate, and the list goes on). Yet he points out those in the opposing parties scandals and faults. Look I am no Bush fan but to preach holier than thou about your party is just stupid and treating the American people like morons. When they come to accept that Democrats are just as heavily paid by companies as Republicans, and act no different then their Republican counterparts then just maybe we will see bipartisan action. Now that is why I gave the book three stars. Mr. Carville did have some good ideas and I would like to see stats on his Social Security idea. I did like his campaign finance reform plan though I though it was good and could work. I agree with some of his Environmental plan. The book was well written and though I am Conservative I do agree with Democrats on certain things. The recipes were a bonus and very good to make and eat.
Carville is simply brilliant and a complete straight shooter! Of the three books I’ve just read on our political landscape, this is by far the best one. The reason is it not only shreds the empty policies of Dubya’s administration but offers tough no nonsense ideas for putting things right that Dubya had made very wrong. This book will be my touchstone for the 2004 election season. I’m going to read it again right away so that I can mark passages of pertinent info. Moore & Franken are entertaining, but Carville is more entertaining and also a visionary. I would really like to give a dozen copies to friends, my Dad would love it, my brothers, Elaine, but the person I really want to give a copy is my Uncle T who was a union man his entire working life, but now votes Republican. It’s hard to believe my tough as nails uncle is so fearful he has bought into that crap. I know my uncle had a racist bent when he was young, but I thought he’d grown out of it since. I have completely lost respect for my uncle; it’s been transferred to Carville.
He made some very good points about the mishandling of the Bush administration, had a good attitude about fighting back, than hands out advice that is as good as fairy dust.
"Had Enough" by James Carville is a scathing critique of the Bush administration. As a Republican, I did not agree with all of his position, but I found myself agreeing with some of the positions. Continuing, I agree that we need to get money out of politics with campaign finance reform. However, even though I did not agree with Bush, Carville must also look at Clinton's failures. Overall, a good read, with many good ideas.
This is a book for progressives, no bones about it. Carville takes many of the problems in the US today, presents the current (Bush) solution, and then presents a different, progressive solution. Some are really out of reach. But it does give a healthy progressive some ideas for fighting back :)
After Kerry's loss, I still needed something to console myself with. This book was it.
Personally, I've always been tired of democrats being portrayed as wimps, and worst yet, actually acting like wimps! Let's hear it for butt-kicking democrats!
Thought this might be a bit dated, but its good to remember how bad Bush was. More importantly, James lays out some important points to Democrats as to how to better get out our message of ideas and accomplishment.
