When my family left our small, ultra-conservative pack back in Utah to join a giant pack in Northwest Louisiana, I thought I'd be able to coast through my last year of high school in semi-anonymity, then get the fuck away from wolf pack politics and just live my life for awhile. But the Moon decided to prolong my torture by placing my fated mate in front of my face on my first day at Blackstone Academy. He's the Alpha's son and king of a school crawling with shifters, and it turns out he doesn't care to be saddled with a Moon-chosen mate who he thinks is a nobody-omega wolf.

When he rejects me in front of every shifter in school, I vow to harden my heart, become impervious to the constant, deep hurt of the rejection, and figure out how to be the first wolf in known history to shake the taint of a rejected fated mate bond.

I'm also becoming closer to a new student—a smoking hot and intriguing human, who I can't manage to scare off even with the drama that surrounds me and the poisonous pack politics that I can't seem to escape. I can't even tell him what's really going on, but I think he's keeping secrets from me, too.

I'm Mave Fortune, and my mate threw me out like yesterday's garbage. But fuck that guy.

This is a new adult, M/F rejected mates standalone story. It is intended for the 18+ crowd and contains foul language, some mild violence, and sexual scenes. If you're a fan of upper YA/NA, wolf shifters, academy romances and the tropes associated with each, dive right in!

It was hot as shit outside, and I didn't intend to get a job anywhere that wouldn't let me dress like me, so I was in my cut-off denim shorts and a soft, slouchy band T-shirt that hung off one shoulder. I had my purple high-tops Vans on and my hair back in my preferred french braid. I went with my usual minimal makep of dark brown eyeliner, mascara, and red-tinted lipbalm.

PROS
- heroine, Mave, is very likable. She is very confident without being bitchy. She’s is happy with who she is.
- I love bully books. This has the standard mean girls and ahole boys.
- the author did a good job of bringing you into the story and making you feel apart of their lives.
- the heroine’s brother Ben is the best character. I always loved the scenes with him in it.
- the story line is interesting and I couldn’t wait for Mave to reveal her true power and seek revenge.

CONS
- the story started out very good but Mave and Blake’s relationship ruined it for me. The book was good until the hero and heroine got together. The author cannot write steamy scenes, flirting or relationships. Mave and Blake constantly called each other “baby” or “Wolf Girl” and it didn’t fit. I didn’t think their was any chemistry between the two. It seemed like a fake relationship.
- I thought Blake was kind of boring. He was supposed to be a bad boy but I’m not sure why. Having tattoos and cheesy flirting lines doesn’t make someone a bad boy. Plus I’m not big on witches and magic because there is always a spell to fix something.
- the author made Knox, the villain, to be too stupid and douchey. Through the whole book Knox did not have one redeeming quality. His friends kept saying he was a good guy but we didn’t see it once until the very end. At the very end of the book, out of nowhere, Knox becomes a decent person. It was a complete whiplash and not believable.
- the final fight against the Alpha was a let down. I wanted a full blown fight and challenge between the Alpha and Mave’s dad. Mave taking on the alpha was stupid.
- book was longer than it needed to be. I started skimming the steamy scenes because the writing was bad and skipped most of the mage stuff.
- this is petty, but I got annoyed that the author kept car name dropping. I don’t think Mave once said “my car”. She would always say “my Tesla” or refer to Blake’s car as the BMW.

THIS👏IS👏HOW👏YOU👏DO👏A👏REJECTED 👏MATE👏ROMANCE👏

Holy wow. I am a complete newbie by this author and I knew when I read the blurb that it sounded amazing. And let me tell you, I was absolutely hooked from page one. This author did an amazing job with this storyline I could not get enough.

Mave is everything I love and more in a FMC. She is fabulous. I don’t want to share any spoilers but if you are looking for a rejected mate romance, with a strong FMC, amazing side characters and all around AMAZING BOOK. This is it!!!!

This time I punched him right in his perfect face, then I leveled a kick to his nuts for good measure.

Is it just me or is anyone else confused by the rejected mate trope? Cause I sure am. Like, I'm reading this book and all of sudden it all clicks. MaveKnox aren't endgame, BlakeMave are. Which … *sigh*

Let me tell ya guys, the missed POTENTIAL - just … UGGHHHH. I was ready to have Knox grovel to kingdom come. I was here to watch Mave knee him in the balls a couple hundred times. Put it plainly, I absolutely LOVE when — one fated mate rejects the other and then the rejected party basically says FUCK YOU and the rejector realizes their mistake and grovels. It rarely happens but … when it does it is AMAZING.

Sadly my dumbass gets to thirty percent and sees that Blake, BLAKE, is getting his own POV chapter.

Blake’s stare was more like a question and a promise, if the question was "Do you want this?" and the promise was "I'll rock your fucking world if yes."

… whose mans?

Cue me out here like - 🙋‍♀️🤨😮‍💨

Also, I was very confused why this book was trying so hard to shove in the werewolf-fated-mate-shit when this book was so obviously a straight-up bully romance. Not really sure why the werewolf shit was there. They never even turned into wolves ONCE (at least from what I read).

For real though. It had all the hallmarks of a classic bully romance ✨

- Mave Fortune was the new girl at school

- the entire school called her a whore

- Mave made sure to let us know that the resident mean girls were the REAL whores

- there was the obligatory trio of teenaged boys that the entire school worshiped

- said hot trio of boys were also called something stupid (the Elites for inquiring minds)

- there was that one random bad boy with a sleeve of tattoos — WHICH side-note, tattoos are freaking EXPENSIVE. how does a high schooler afford MULTIPLE tattoos at eighteen??

- of course we had an unsupervised house party

- fights / shenanigans were afoot

- kidnapping / drugging took place

- plus a random redemption arc thrown in at eighty-percent or so

ALSO in case I didn't mention it enough, the word WHORE was thrown around, oh, every other page or so?

"Something funny, you diseased whore?" Nikki snapped at me.
"Jesus, Nikka, get a new schtick," I said evenly. "The slut-shaming thing is so fucking fifteen years ago. We’re about sexual empowerment for women now. I mean, your boyfriend was practically finger-banging you in the cafeteria in front of everyone, so I know you’re well acquainted with the movement." I gave her a shitty smile.

remember if you acknowledge it then it's fine if your characters slut-shame each other for the entire rest of the book 😌

Cause you know … High school girls are either skanky whores or NoTLiKEoTHerGIrLs. Both camps are their own version of hell, so choose wisely 🤪🤪

In the end, this is less a roast of MAVE FORTUNE and more me shaking my head at myself. Like … *sigh* I did this to myself. I have no one else to blame.

This was fantastic and I enjoyed it a hell of a lot. A new to me author so I want sure quite what to expect so pleased to say this was a totally positive experience and it’s a debut so colour me impressed. It’s a rejected mate academy romance and I absolutely adored our heroine Mave she was everything thing I adore in my book girls. Mave was feisty take-no-shit empowered and most importantly respected herself and wasn’t prepared to take her so-called fated-mates cruelty and disrespect. Instead, she chose her own future and a male that had immediately realised her worth.

So Mave fortune and her family which consists of mum dad and brother leave their old wolf pack due to internal strife and restrictive stifling rules. Mave’s dad is an Alpha male in fact the strongest born to his line but he has zero desire to lead. Packing up they apply to another pack one where their children can prosper and be themselves but there is a snag they will have to join this new pack as omega wolves which they are so clearly not. Not really bothered about hierarchy the Fortunes agree leaving their old alpha life behind.

When Mave meets her fated-mate who just happens to be the Alphas son Knox Monroe it’s a definite shock when he then very publicly rejects and humiliates her thinking she is beneath him. Mave vows there and then she wouldn’t have him now for anything he has shown his true Colours and she’s well rid. There’s then the whole other issue of the decaying mate- bond inside of her but Mave is powerful enough to push back at it making it at least bearable.

Now she’s attending school getting constant grief from the very threatened popular girls and also knox himself who is a massive man-ho like you wouldn’t believe. Mave manages to take all this in her stride this girl takes absolutely no crap and is more than a match for all of their snide nasty shenanigans. But there is a bright side another new kid a human called Blake who’s caught the attention of Mave and her wolf. But Blake is also much more than he lets on and is also keeping secrets.

I loved how capable Mave was and I adored how Blake instantly released this he still wanted to protect her but knew she was more than up to the job herself. He also was willing to give Mave the space she needed when he knew she was struggling with everything school entailed he stepped back whilst still giving her his support. Then we have Ben Mave’s brother his relationship with his sister was fantastic he had her back completely and they were a solid unbreakable team. In fact, there were many great side characters here and they were all fleshed out nicely.

So my favourite part of this I think was when knox realises how badly he’s fucked up. When he realises just how powerful Mave is. Absolutely fabulous he was bloody gobsmacked. He made assumptions and there was no undoing his prior behaviour she was done with him. It was so refreshing to see a female who knows her own worth and expects to be treated right.

Blake I also adored he was a yummy tattooed specimen of a male who is a lot more than he initially first reveals. He cares deeply about Mave and these two have a lot of chemistry. They are definitely the real deal and Blake is Mave’s choice and the one she ultimately wants.

This was well written and engaging I am very impressed that this is a debut because it didn’t read like one. If you like rejected mates where the girl is totally kick-ass and is not afraid to re-write her own destiny then this is the story for you. Brilliant and highly recommend if your into the whole rejected mate trope this is definitely one of the good ones.

So...Confession time! I was in quite the mood when I initially picked up this book. I had it in myself to DNF it after reading the prologue. I know, I know but I was in a really weird mood! I remember thinking it read juvenile and nothing else. Color me surprised when I saw this had an audio book. Since I was waiting on another book to release I picked it up and OMG I love this book. It's my new personality!

For a first-time author, this was very well written! The plot was steady-paced and purposeful. There wasn't a dull moment in this story and I can certainly appreciate the level of dedication it must have taken to make this book what it is today.

I loved how positively the LGBTQ+ community was represented. The heroine's brother is gay and has a lot of relevant on-page time and isn't suffering/in distress every time we see him. He's a big help to Mave and the situation she's in. The next book features him as the main character and I'm very intrigued about how his whole ordeal is going to play out.

The heroine, Mave, was a bad*ss empowered woman. Her family was her biggest supporter and backbone. She always stood up for herself and her friends when in danger. I liked her very much.

Mave's partner (whose name escapes me now...oops) was pretty awesome! He respected her, cared about her, AND listened to her. Color me surprised! On a more serious note, he was fantastic and saved the day in more ways than one.

The werewolf society the author started fleshing out in this book was very toxic and believed a woman's place was beneath the boot of her jailor *ahem* mate. I'm very interested in seeing if that changes with the leadership change and if that's going to reverberate in the other packs in the future. It was very frustrating to listen to but it sure was entertaining.

The "villain" of this whole story was so good at being bad! The way he was written had me legitimately angry. I stayed up past midnight on multiple days to get to a place in the story where I could relax enough to let it go.

Details I'd like to nitpick:

- Why the author made the executive decision to actively include brand names and song/artist names in the novel? Considering how LGBTQ+ positive this book was I was VERY surprised when the author brought up a song that was playing in the background that featured none other than DaBaby. This was probably written long before his homophobia was rearing its ugly head but I can't help but cringe. This is why I prefer authors make up brand names and bands/songs for their novels. It won't date their novel so easily in the future. It'll prevent anything that happens to those things mentioned from being reflected on how I feel about the novel. This is just a personal grievance for me but can you tell that I can go on and on about it when given the chance? 😅

- Maybe this is more of a me-being-a-very-private-person thing but the way Mave and Ben shared stories of the hookups they had in explicit detail with each other was just plain weird.

- The over the top slut-shaming was really, really, really annoying. All the air-headed characters doing it to the heroine were very cliche. This hit a very prominent nerve for me. The story could have done with much less if any at all of this particular trope.

Cannot believe this is a first time author!! Omg

Omg y'all, first time author! No way! This book is freaking awesome! One of my favorite genre's is rejected mates, and this one was so absolutely fking amazing. Our H is rejected right off the bat, and this whole mess snowballs into a entire s###show of epic proportions. Our poor mave has to struggle with all this and a disgusting true mate, but don't you worry guys! Sexy tattooed, ears gauged with a secret of his own is to to rescue. And when I mean to the rescue I really mean stand by ur lady and have her back completely. This is a rollercoaster of drama that keeps you yelling at ur kindle like a crazy person, and also the occasional "this sh*t is getting crazy" outburst! Ahhhh, I feel drained just reading it, and so sad it's over! Everything is totally tied up with this couple and I'm hoping for more stories from the other characters. I see Ben is next and I can't wait, because let me tell you, I need answers!!! but let me also say this as well, is it weird I want the jerk Knox to get his HEA! I do ppl! Because really, I. So. do! Ugh!! Totally amazing book, Elizabeth dear, you are so very talented and I am now going to have to stalk you in regards to finding out when you are to release new books! Get ready for crazy fans. Mave Fortune
By Elizabeth Dear

Wanting to leave behind pack politics and family drama Mave and Ben's parents move them states away to a new pack. Just wanting to live like normal people they accept their new alpha's condition of the family being known as omega's instead of their true status. (Because he's an insecure, conniving, sick minded, manipulative POS.)

On their first day at their new high school Mave meets her fated mate (the alpha's son, Knox) only for him to immediately reject her in front of the entire class because he thinks she's only a lowly omega. Now she's not only dealing with heartbreak, but bullying from other pack girls in Knox's inner circle. Mave's determined to get over him and move on with her life. By the time he realizes what a big mistake he's made she's continuously cut him out of her life and found a smoking hot, loving, and protective boyfriend, Blake, with a pretty awesome secret of his own.

This was a great book!! The writing was awesome. Every character was flawlessly written. Mave is a kick ass heroine who never let's others get the better of her. Her brother Ben is fantastic too and I can't wait to read his upcoming story and see what is up with him and 'Nerd Porn' Thad. LOL Harriet is an awesome and feisty bff for Mave.

Personal Note: This story has been told MANY times... girl meets fated mate, he's the alpha-heir, he rejects her. I've read at least 11 books so far with that theme, the difference is that in all the other books the girl is continually trampled on, bullied, etc.. yet never fights back and sits there and takes it all. Not so with Mave. Hell, she kicked Knox in the balls, punched him, etc etc. She takes nothing lying down when he gets forceful with her. Go Mave! 🤣

The book is in mostly Mave and Blake's POV, but it also includes POV's from other characters. (Such as Knox, Thad, and 'Man Bun' Mason.) The angst is medium-ish.

"She had vibrant blue-green eyes, whereas Ben and I got our hazel eyes from Dad." Tricky thing about genetics is that hazel eyes can only be created, not inherited. They say that only 5 percent of the world has hazel eyes but it's much less because it's a mutation created from the mixture between parents with blue and green or brown eyes. I know this because my mother has hazel eyes, they are golden yellow.

Pretty much summed up:

I don't know if it's a deal breaker to you as much as it is for me, a major spoiler alert:

This book had similarities to other YA/NA with the popular jocks, catty girls, and the new girl who was bullied for catching the attention of the popular guy. Usually, I found these books exhausting, but this book was a GAME-CHANGER. What made this book refreshing was how badass the protagonist was. She stood up for herself, she knew her own worth, and she literally kicked ass. It felt less melodramatic and more empowering in a way. I haven’t had a paranormal romance intrigue me like this in a while. I miss reading this genre because it’s just so fun and entertaining with the magic and the all-consuming romance (although in this case, perhaps less all-consuming (Knox), and more just-the-right-amount of consuming (Blake)).

When they said this was a “rejected mates story,” I honestly wasn’t quite sure what that meant. Did it mean she rejected her mate and ended up with someone else? Did it mean she rejected her mate but she chose him eventually? It was the former fortunately. Knox turned out to be not as much of an asshole later on in the box, but he certainly didn’t deserve a second of Mave’s time. I’m so glad that Mave held firm on not even considering him after he disrespected her in their first meeting. He rejected their bond immediately and publicly announced it - all because she was in a lower social hierarchy. Mave didn’t allow Knox to walk over her, use her, or abuse her just because he had the “power” or was good-looking. I honestly got scared when I was wondering if this was going to be a rejected mates story where she’d choose him later. I read a lot of angstier romances where the girl ended up forgiving the guy over and over - just because he was hot. That could get tiring. Mave was like “fuck no.” Resisting the conventional book trope, Mave rejected Knox even though he was 1) her fated one and 2) hot because she didn’t want to settle for a guy who disrespected her from the beginning. She wasn’t even tempted when Knox flirted with her or finally went after her later on. NOT EVEN TEMPTED. This was just a breath of fresh air because I’ve read too many books where the girls were tempted and 99.9% gave in. Mave wanted Knox to respect her more than she wanted him to love her (the love she quickly learned she didn’t want at all). She was confident, but it wasn’t like she was invincible. She was truly hurt and miserable when Knox rejected her, even sobbing on Ben’s shoulder when it first happened. However, even with the pain and the bond calling to her, she respected herself more than any of that. Plus, she had a good support system to help her get through it. I’ve never relied on a protagonist more for making good decisions. She just felt thoroughly capable. Basically, I loved Mave because she knew her own worth and wasn’t willing to settle (not even tempted to settle), while also showing that vulnerable side to her.

“I certainly didn’t want Knox as a mate or even as a friend. But did I want to demand his respect?
Actually, yeah, I think I did.”

So although this could turn out to be a love triangle story - it really didn’t. Knox wasn’t even a consideration for Mave after their first meeting. We ended up getting Blake who was pretty much the perfect love interest. He was a little edgy but mainly a sweet guy. Instead of running away from Mave’s drama with other people or believing in what other people said about her, he stayed with her and respected her even more for dealing with the toughest week of her life. He was able to quietly support her and make her feel better about her situation. When Mave was going through heavy bullying after Knox rejected her, Blake knew to give her space to process and let her take the lead, while also letting her know he had her back when she needed it. I loved that he respected Mave enough to know she was able to stand up for herself. However, he also respected her to also not be completely silent - and stood up for her. Instead of “saving her,” he was more focused on supporting her. He saw her as fierce and intelligent, and he loved that about her. He was truly the most respectful love interest. This was a contrast to Knox who was dominating, presumptuous, and selfish.

I adored Mave’s strong relationship with Ben. They were such a cute sibling pair. They were able to tease each other but also comfort each other during the dark times. He was constantly in her presence, and they felt more like best friends than anything. It was sweet that she’d sometimes go into his room to wake him up and tell her what happened in her day, and he’d want to sleep but he’d wake up to listen anyway. And when he was going through a rough time, he knew she always had his back. They were affectionate with one another and understood each other without having to say anything.

I enjoyed Mave’s friendship with Harriet, the rabbit shifter. It was nice to see someone have Mave’s back while she was going through the worst time in her first week of school with the rejection and bullies.

Mave’s family was the best. Her dad was a burly, strong guy, but he was also a sensitive nerd. And her mom was cute and supportive.

Mason and Thad were Knox’s best friend. I thought they’d be terrible like him but they actually weren’t. Mason was the smarter, nicer one. Thad was icy but not all that bad. We all know Thad will be getting a book with Ben. And Knox will get his own. I wouldn’t mind if Mason got a book too.

Overall, 5 stars. I wasn’t sure what to expect coming into this rejected mates story. It ended up sucking me into Mave’s life. I was rooting for her from beginning to end. This was a paranormal romance that had it all - badass female protagonist, a supportive family and friends (in particular, a funny brother who was basically Mave’s best friend), a diverse cast, a love interest who was respectful and fun, solid world-building in the paranormal realm, etc. I haven’t dived into paranormal in a while, and it made me realize how much I missed it! This really was an all-around fantastic paranormal book. I’m excited to read more from this author!

Better than I was expecting I gobbled this one up.
3.5 stars rounded up.

It's kinda run of the mill but nicely done. The characters are engaging and not wholly good or evil. Well except for the high school 'mean girls' who were kinda ridiculous and disappointing really.
But Mave was fun in her hard core alpha kick ass goodness. She and her brother were very tight and had each other's backs always.
They move across the country (USA) to get away from the toxic pack they were born to. Now a new school and a new pack and they are wary because of the pack politics they had to deal with in their old home. The Alpha of the new pack is somewhat insecure and insists that they masquerade as omega wolves so as not to threaten his power.
So it's not till the first day of school that Mave meets her mate, the Alpha's son Knox, and he rejects her in front of everyone because he believes her to be omega.

This is not one of those mate rejected books where the mates actually reconnect and I was fine with that. It was better actually. Cause Knox was disgusting. By the end of the story I thought he was an OK person but nobody I'd want my daughter dating, that's for damn sure.
Instead there is the introduction of a new characters. A mysterious human boy.

It's a long book, at over 400 pages. But it was an easy read and kept it interesting. I liked the side characters... except for the mean girls who really were too OTT. It was a little hard to believe all the tattoos kids still in highschool had. Don't you have to be 18???

I do plan to read the next one about Mave's brother Ben and 'Nerd Porn'... *snicker*

Not a fan of shifter romances because the heroines are usually such bloodless victims that suffer with the nobody likes me and going into the garden to eat worms syndrome, but this was a lot of fun, kind of a Buffy the Wolf Shifter and her Scoobie gang romance.

The heroine is a take no prisoners Alpha female and is moon mated to the jerky Alpha son day. First day at school and she is promptly rejected. She doesn't curl up in a ball, well she does for a few minutes, but bounces back pretty quickly and makes it clear there are NO DO OVERS.

Alpha mate doesn't take it well as he wants his cake and eat it too. A new H steps in that's nice and hunky with secrets of his own. There are the usual Mean Girls that really don't understand who they are messing with.

There's lots of action that's easy to visualize, and she's supported by a very nice family unlike many a heroine in romance. Her brother is an especial plus as he's charming, knows it, and is out to snag his own wolf, a male wolf in his case, but has his sister's back no matter what.

It's a YA setting but not a YA book with all the sex. I know high schoolers have sex, but I'm old and it makes me uncomfortable. The author does mention in the forward of her second book that most characters are of age then kinda negates that when she says that the one who isn't is mature for his age because he's a shifter.

*** Book Q & A***

* How did the book make you feel?: The first 3/4 of this book was 5 stars. I was rooting for her fated mate to redeem himself and fix the bond, but the story took a disappointing turn. It was still an excellent book.

* How do you feel about how the story was told?: I loved this author’s handling of shifter packs and hierarchy. I loved the main and supporting characters. The banter was witty and the plot was well-paced.

* What did you think about the main characters?: I loved Mave. She had backbone and she was pragmatic and comfortable in her skin. Her brother Ben stole the show. He was fabulous. Knox was one-dimensional and gross sex fiend. He was supposedly a good person but didn’t show any sort of character development. We were just told he improved in every way near the end of the story. I found Blake boring. IRL of course I would’ve chosen him over Knox, but he was a perfect feminist mage and I needed angst over happiness for the MC’s, dang it! Also the magic being able to break a bond and make everything OK and peachy for a HEA was just way too convenient.

* Which parts of the book stood out to you?: I loved Knox’s rejection of Mave. I just knew I was in for a angst fest but I ended up sorely disappointed because I went in blind.

* What themes/tropes did you detect in the story?: rejected mate

* What did you think about the ending?: It was just too convenient and sweet. I skipped a lot of the MC’s sexy scenes together because they bored me to death.

* What is your impression of the author?: Lots of talent here and I love her world building.

Possible Triggers and Safety: slut shaming

Worth reading.

Okay where do I start? How about I start by saying this series can be read has a standalone and it wraps things up nicely. That being said I understand this is the authors first book and she didn’t disappoint it was really good. I’m usually more lenient on first books, it takes a lot to put your novel out there and to be judged by everyone, but not this time this book was really that good.

Mave Fortune was ok.... On one hand I found myself engrossed in the story but by the end I felt let down by the way the story went. I had a big issue with how well things worked out for Knox and the lack of awareness towards what he lost with Mave. I really didn't like him. He was a disgusting person. What he put Mave through was beyond ok and he was, in general, a real piece of work. The fact he was put into 'good' character territory at the end of the story was stupid. It came out of nowhere at the end of the book, with little justification. He somehow even got Mave's Dad to mentor him as an Alpha. After the way he treated Mave, it was unbelievable. Knox either needed to be bad and gotten rid of, or somehow turn to good, sooner rather than later, and be with Mave. What they could have had, could have been more than what she could have with Blake. The halfway between these two possibilites the author went with didn't work in my opinion. I also didn't like the lack of justice when it came to Knox's Dad. The repercussions were not enough for his disgusting actions.

DNF 70%

It started off okay, somehow. I mean, it gave me wattpad vibes (not in the good sense), but I kept reading anyways.
Heroine was described as 'not-like-the-other-girls' and badass, but it came out really forced. Most of the characters felt flat. I really didn't care for them, not even for Blake (who turned out to be the H instead of Knox)
The dialogues weren't good, and I just ended up skimming through the scenes. By 70% mark it was getting boring, since I didn't care for any of these characters anymore.

(On a side note, I found it real funny that the h refered to many girls as whores and 'alphawhores', but then said some crap about being against slut shaming???? Excuse me???? Made 0 sense)

Anyways, novels where the h is trying to be badass, not like the other girls and 'sassy' are NOT for me, always rub me the wrong way. It just end up being forced and even a little bit cringy.

Also, this book included the sentence "our tongues in a battle for dominance". What else can I say? Major Wattpad vibes. Not good.

4 stars. Not usually into stories about high schoolers, but this was oddly satisfying. There’s nothing quite like a rejected mate pulling an uno reverso and rejecting her mate back. Chef’s kiss 🫰

Safety is good with the MCs

So many mixed feelings about this book.

What I liked:

The main story is a fantastic idea for a rejected mate series. Loved that her parents, though alphas, aren’t interested in pack hierarchy and just want to live their lives and allow their children opportunity in a more progressive pack. The agreement with their new alpha, who is clearly threatened by their ancestry, is they exist as omegas and hide their alpha status from the pack. The first day of school the FMC is shown to be the alphas son’s moon mate and he rejects her because he thinks she’s an omega. When his father learns of their moon mate status and just how powerful of an alpha she is, he will stop at nothing to see her mated to his son, even if it’s against her will.

My favorite part of the book is the relationship between the FMC and her brother. The author does a good job of showing how close, protective and supportive they are of one another. Their banter is excellent.

What I didn’t like:

Did not like the writing style at all. It’s mostly telling instead of showing. Only the promise of the main story made me stick with it. The author is extremely hung up on labels and descriptions of everything; especially clothing. A little of that is fine but it was excessive. Length could have been cut if the half page descriptions of what each character is wearing every time there’s a scene change were edited down (or out).

The author goes out of her way to show us just how “not like other girls” the FMC is which is an enforcement of regressive gender stereotypes. It’s not a compliment to hint that women who aren’t like her are inferior by comparison. Not interested in reading an author’s internalized misogyny.

Author slut shamed one moment and was sexually progressive the next. It was a weird dichotomy.

Unearned plot devices, particularly near the end.

This was a really enjoyable read! I really loved Mave, she was confident without being over the top and i loved the side characters. There was great dialogue and I loved how the rejected mate aspect was handled.

Blake was cute but could’ve been a little more in depth for me.

I liked that the climax of the story wasn’t relationship drama but outside forces. It was handled a little quicker than I anticipated but i appreciated it.

I can’t wait to read Ben’s story! He was probably my second favorite character.

I heard that Knox is getting a book and I’m very iffy on that. I dislike reformed manwhores especially when we have to see him being a manwhore, and that’s literally what happens in this book. He goes from douche supreme to redeemed in like one paragraph and it just didn’t vibe with me. We’ll see how his story is handled though.

Overall an enjoyable read!

This book is the benchmark by which I measure all rejected mates stories. It was the one that got me hooked on the trope, and almost a year later, it reads just as well as it did the first time.

I highly recommend this story if you like a FMC who takes the rejection of her fated mate, and instead of wallowing, becomes even stronger in the aftermath. Mave is one of the strongest FMCs I have read -physically, mentally, and emotionally. She does not cow down to her fated mate's harassment nor the taunts from his band of sycophants. You will grow to hate him just as much as she does.

I would classify this as medium burn, with the s3x scenes being spicy and abundant. We get some of those bastions of high school s3xcapades - car s3x, library s3x, and heavy petting at parties, just to name a few.

Mave gets her HEA, and you will cheer her on along the way.

I cant’t believe this. I was loving this book until the very end.

So, you write a magical school, you make Knox sound exactly like Draco Malfoy, you make him reject his mate and be an asshole but deep down he still wants her, and then you do NOTHING WITH ALL THOSE GREAT ELEMENTS?! This didn’t follow the typical rejected mate course where he rejects her and then he has to grovel to win her back.

The worst part is I actually really liked Blake, but the wasted potential of the fated wolves mates is KILLING ME here. Ugh how can you have such a great premise to work with and fuck it up this royally?

I’m going to re-read The Tyrant Alpha’s Rejected Me again and wallow.

(18 months later) This has become a total comfort read for me. I pull it out and skim my favorite parts every so often. Just finished book 2 of her new series. I really like the way she writes her leads.

DNF @ 5% - the feminism is strong with this one… You are woman, let’s hear you roar… somewhere else. Not my cuppa.

I liked it in a very young adult kind of like it. Because it is a romance for young adult, based in high school and with all the typical high school drama , but anyway it did it job and I was entertained. The heroine is a wolf shifter that leaves the pack with her family, her dad is alpha and accepts the family to be made omega. Of course being omega in not cool for the kids and when the heroine finds her mate who is the alphas son , the boy rejects her and tells her he’s going to mate with another she wolf because she has a higher rank. Well, big mistake. Huge. Because the heroine is a badass and the most powerful wolf of the pack men included and because she doesn’t take sh1t from anyone. She also falls in love with another boy, the real hero in this story who’s apparently human but not quite. He’s a mage. So the book has a lot of drama between the heroine and the she wolves that try unsuccessfully to bully her, the big bad alpha that wants her to mate his son, and her mate who is an immature little prick. I liked it because the heroine doesn’t let anyone to hurt her and because she gives back what she takes with interests. There are some fights but luckily it’s not that gory. I don’t like gory. There are a lot of interesting side characters as the heroines brother that will have a story of his own, and in the end all is well and she even makes friend with her ex mate who admits he has been as azzhole but he’s not ready to settle. Booohooo. But I understand that he has to have his own book so he couldn’t be a complete villain . I enjoyed it. The heroine was really a nasty beesh and not the usual doormat martyr. Good job.

4✨

It was really good for a shifter romance but missing something to be a 5 star read. Like they should’ve killed Knox’s dad, that would have given it 4.5, then maybe killing Knox and taking over the pack would have been 5 stars. It just needed that extra pizzzzzow.

I appreciate a female mc who is strong but the author actually writes her strong instead of trying to write her as “not like the author girls” and this was just a strong female mc. Which tbh is a breath of fresh air compared to the stuff I’ve read lately.

There’s atleast one other book in this series, I’ll prob read it. Not sure if I’ll read it next, but I mean it’ll def make my TBR. Also the only reason I’m not considering reading it next is because I didn’t like the sibling relationship between this MC and her brother and ofc the next book is about him. Tbh if there is a third book I will likely skip his book and immediately hop to that bc their relationship is just weird.

I don’t normally bother with 5 star reviews as the stars speak for themselves but I absolutely LOVED this book! Believable romances, an interesting spin on the werewolf genre and witty in all the right places! Highly recommend

It's well written, I really loved all the characters but I don't like the concept of a corrupted mate bond.

I found it sad and unromantic. Not my cup of tea.
