ARC for honest review with no compensation
Shadow Assassin by Elle James is book 2 in the Shadow SEALs series by various authors. While each book is a standalone there is an underlying theme with a shadow figure named Charley. Can’t wait to read more about the Shadow SEALs and Charley!
Dane “Striker” Ryan former Navy Seal was dishonorable discharge…he was the scape goat. When he is contacted by “Charley” for an undercover assignment he take the job as he needs funds to live. His assignment is eliminate a dangerous assassin.

(4.5) What a treat! I have not read book 1 but I am definitely going to find it and read it. What a concept, but then not all that far fetched! Charley (women) who we never see is the person on the phone, who has the contacts and sets things in motion. (a slight Charlie Angel take off?) We immediately care about the two main characters and the twists and turns make take the story up a notch. For you hard core spicy romance lovers there are some sizzling scenes. Action, Romance, Mystery and the our intrepid Seals makes this a win-win. Each book is written by a different author, but Charley is in all. Thanks for the arc! All thoughts and opinions are my own which I freely volunteer to share.

Dane 'Striker' Ryan was made the scapegoat for a mission that got more notice than it should have. With no job and no way to pay his rent he gets a call from Charley a mysterious woman who offers him a lot of money and resources to do a covert mission. He accepts and finds himself with a fake name posing as an escort at a high profile energy summit in France. He would be escorting one of the translators, Natalya Zotin to the reception and his mission is to prevent an assassination.
It's when Anatoly Petrov heads to the gardens with a young woman who had caught Dane's eye earlier that things start heating up.
Natalya notices not only Petrov leaving but also Sergei Baranovsky so she decides to call it a night, freeing up Dane to investigate the gardens.
Now preventing any problems with Petrov and the young lady only opens another can of worms. As they are reentering the reception room, Petrov is stabbed. Now with Alexa's knife in his pocket he has to pass it off to some unsuspecting soul or they'd never get out of there.
Between that incident, a break-in of Alexa's room, and rumors of the Russians skimming off the existing gas line things heat up really fast. Alexa has loads of secrets and Dane is determined to figure them out.
Of course having her stay with him for protection has his thoughts wandering in other directions as well.
Lots of suspense, intrigue, and action with a simmer to sizzle romance.

Dane "Striker" Ryan is a former Navy SEAL down on his luck after he is used for a scape goat when a successful mission has unexpected ramifications for those who gave the orders. When he is contacted by a shady organization and offered an assignment that will take care of his financial difficulties he gives it some thought before he accepts the mission. Alex Sokolov barely escaped with her life the night her parents were murdered. For years she has trained, and now she is ready to hunt down two of the men she believes paid some part in her parents deaths. She is ready to take her revenge.
Well written, compelling, and I think realistic characters, that will find themselves working together to find the answers Alex needs, unfortunately, her search for answers has put Alex in deadly danger. Very exciting, suspenseful, action packed and sexy read that kept me on the edge of my seat. Fantastic book!

I was delighted to get an ARC for this book and am happy to provide my honest review.
At the start of the book, I was wondering how desperate for cash Dane "Striker" Ryan was and would he be turning to the dark side? I needn't have worried; all the alpha hero action was there (not to say he doesn't have his own darkness as all the good military heroes do) and I wasn't disappointed by the relationship between him and assassin Alex.
Striker can show that he was not the person that the Navy had made him out to be and that he was still hero material.
There are many questions to be answered about who oversees the organisation and are they always on the right side? Although I haven't read the first one of the series, I found it easy to pick up what was going on with "Charley". I look forward to reading more of the series, it certainly has me wanting more!

The second book in the Shadow SEALs series, Shadow Assassin, by Elle James met my every expectation and then some. This fictional story parallels some real life headlines involving a shut down pipeline and ransomware. There's also suspense, intrigue, some great fast paced action, assassins, duplicitous politicians and of course steamy romance. The mysteriously ubiquitous Charley enlists Dane "Stryker" Ryan to stop an assassination. Alexa Sokoloff is searching for the Russian higher-up who betrayed her parents. He thinks she's the suspect he's trying to identify and she thinks he's a paid escort. Boy, did they both get that wrong! He becomes her protector and her rescuer. She finally gets the answers she's been searching for. Along the way they find love.

I love this new series. An intriguing concept of working for a voice over the phone. Striker, down to his last dime gets a phone call, and he's intrigued. He follows the instructions and his assignment takes on a new avenue as soon as the first night happens. Alex is one tough woman, she's had to survive on her own for the past two years. The storyline kept me turning the page as fast as I could to find out what would happen next. I loved how they connected and worked together, I also loved all the cool tools at their disposal. My favorite line, "she felt warm, safe and...cherished."

This is book 2 in the Shadow SEALs series and it features Dane “Striker” Ryan and Anya Federov/Alexa Sokolov. The whole “Charley” scenario needs to have a brief explanation in each book, otherwise you feel like you jumped into the middle of a story without explanation. I liked the semi-slow build of attraction between them. I also liked the build up of the mystery and suspense.
The characters were fantastic! It was a shorter book but with a fulfilling and complete story. This is a wonderful and trusted author, sure to bring you highly entertaining stories full of romance and suspense.

I wasn't sure how I felt about Striker at the beginning of the book. I thought he might be a mopey, feeling sorry for himself SEAL. I was so glad that I was proved wrong.
I liked Alex and her take no prisoners attitude. Alex and Striker together had great chemistry, A really good connection, with a fair amount of witty conversation. I also enjoyed Alex's elevator routine.
This book had a nice amount of suspense and action. There were sweet, romantic moments as well as steamy encounters. You get a bit of everything in this book, along with a HEA.

As with what I’ve come to expect from Elle James, enough intrigue, suspense, action and romance to keep you reading until the end. This story has “Striker,” a questionably dishonorable discharged out-of-work SEAL given a protection assignment abroad by an unknown only going by the name “Charley.” He becomes entangled with a dubious translator going by the name Alexa who is not quite honest and forthcoming with who she is, her past and what her real motives are. Needless to say, Striker and Alexa find it us in their best interest to work together on Intel gathering. Being close to each other that often leads to other things. A really good second story for this new Shadow SEALS series.

It is not right that Seals who do their jobs and then become fall guys for government and have the careers ruined don’t get redemption. Striker is a special caring Seal who was wronged. Can Charley, whoever she is, give him hope for a new life?

There's lot of action and excitement in Elle James' latest, Shadow Assassin. Quite a timely topic too - pipelines getting shut down. The two main characters are quite realistic. I really liked their personalities. Alex is determined and dedicated to finding the person responsible for the death of her parents. While Striker starts out at loose ends after unfairly being cut loose from the SEALs he steps right up and gets a difficult job done. This is a super addition to the Shadow SEALs series.

This book caught my attention from the first page to the last. I enjoyed how each character was built into Dane and Alex's story. It was excellently done the way Dane and Alex met, continued to have interaction, became dependent on each other, then built trust and a close relationship. This book has action, mystery, suspense and romance. What more could you ask for?

Dane is trying to prove to himself he is worthy, Alex is living as a ghost and seeking revenge. They are drawn to each other and seeing them lower their defenses and finally open up to each other is heartwarming.
They are in a world that is rife with corruption, deception and danger but together they are unstoppable unless fate deals them a different hand.

As usual another great read from this author. She always keeps you on the edge of your seat, with adventure, danger and intrigue. Like Adam's story, Dane (Striker) is trying to get his life back after the Navy messed him over and he got a dishonorable discharge. So when Charlie contacts him, he's a little thrown off. Having to deal with Russians and piplines, sounds all to familiar in our recent events here in the US. HEA. I RECEIVED A COPY FOR AN HONEST REVIEW.

Alex and Striker’s story had it all!!! Elle is so good at hooking you into the story! I especially love how she is able to blend my favorite, the suspense, with action, heat, and let’s not forget, romance! Both Alex and Striker have taken some hard hits in life, which is something we all can relate to in some way. Beautiful and touching message delivered in such an amazing and thrilling way! Great job!!! Highly recommended!

Secret mission, what has ex-SEAL Dane gotten into. He's being sent to eliminate an assassin, disguised as an escort he is alert for signs of danger. Our other main character is Alexa, who is she really and who is she after and why? She's on her own journey of avenging her parent's killers.
What a great action packed romance, these two sizzled when they came together.
Wonderful story, can't wait to see what happens next.

Great Series in the making
This is another great series in the making. Striker is a SEAL down on his luck. He is given a second chance to use his skills in a very covert manner reminiscent of Charlie’s Angels. Alexa is bent on seeking revenge for the murder of her parents. From start to finish you are hooked on the premise of an assassin presented in the story. The unknown puppet master pulling the strings behind the scenes makes it very interesting.

Alexa is bent on seeking revenge for the murder of her parents. From start to finish you are hooked on the premise of an assassin presented in the story. The unknown puppet master pulling the strings behind the scenes makes it very interesting.

I loved this book. This is a well written story with wonderful characters. I am a big Elle James fan and this book meets my expectation of a story from her. There is some suspense with this one but I don't do spoilers so you will need to get this one to see what I am talking about. For me this was a quick read, I couldn't put it down. I do encourage everyone to get this one. I look forward to reading the rest of this series.

The interactions between Dane and Alex were enjoyable - from him thinking she was possibly an assassin to her turning to him for help when someone breaks into her hotel room to their sexual chemistry. There was lots of suspense as she tried to figure out who was behind her parents deaths two years ago. My one disappoint was that we didn't get more of Dane's story - why he was booted from the SEALs or who was behind it.

What a mix, action , serious, injury and fun.
This is my first read of an Elle James book . I'm so looking forward to reading more of her work if it's as good as this.
