An unexpected phone call turns Matthew Heawood’s attention to a mystery in the gloom of Rendlesham Forest; folklore, paranormal, otherworldly? Up for debate, but fertile ground for a new investigative podcast, that’s for sure. One question still lingers, will our host be re-joined by his roaming researcher, Kennedy Fisher?
The duo’s last update patched together frantic updates from Baghdad as they pursued suspected occultists in The Case of Charles Dexter Ward. Very little hope lingered of solving the mystery, and maybe even less that Kennedy would return home safe… But for now, a new investigation calls.
Following the success of The Case of Charles Dexter Ward, Radio 4 commissions a return to this HP Lovecraft-inspired universe. Once again the podcast embraces Lovecraft’s crypt of horror, braving the Sci-Fi stylings of The Whisperer in Darkness.
This was enjoyable. Unfortunately I waited too long to do my review, so I've forgotten most of it.
I don't think it grabbed me as much as the first one did, but it was still definitely enjoyable, and I really like how they wove modern occult pop culture into it.
I look forward to the next instalment, which I know they are working on now.
This is part two of the interlocked Lovecraft Investigations. An ambitious undertaking of bringing Lovecraft into the modern day. After the strange and frightening events of Charles Dexter Ward, the case continues into the Whisperer in Darkness. This creepy tale is wrapped around the Rendlesham UFO sighting and concerns a man named Whateley who seems to have discovered something sinister. Kennedy and Matthew are reunited after Kennedy's abduction in the US, working on this new case in the UK. More is going on with abduction that is known. Cast is fantastic and have started on the last section, The Shadow Over Innsmouth. This is fantastic adaptation of one of my favorite Lovecraft stories and it has been chillingly updated.
As most series are, the first is the best and it goes downward from there, BUT, not in this case. I think that both this and the first season are equally amazing and memorable. When I started listening to this, I couldn’t stop. I didn’t go on any social media, video streaming, or shopping apps, I just laid down and listened. I was so captivated at all the twists and turns, and as soon as I thought I had figured it out, BAM, another turn. Throughout the story I did get frightened a few times, and for good reason of course, but it just made me want to listen further. The ending did put me off a little, and I was a little confused, but that is what Lovecraft’s stories are about. I definitely recommend!!!
Dull and not a patch on the first two. The long explanations of characters who seem to be of little relevance were the final straw. I bailed. I made my way through several episodes on my drive from Sussex to Luton Airport and decided the drive was more interesting than this production. It started well enough but really lost it’s way for me. If the series is not canned I hope they return to form.
Another excellent addition. To the podcast. Looking forward to listening to the next season. Great Halloween time audiobook. It was a pain getting to because it was no longer on Apple podcasts. But I was able to find a version. To keep the story going. such a unique true kind, fake podcast, but I really enjoy it A+ production.
Enjoyed it, but thought it was weaker than the first one. The number of characters did get confusing to keep track of; it left like I should take notes to remember who's who and how they relate to the story. But I'm still intrigued and off to listen to the last series.
I did not enjoy this one quite as much as the first series. The mystery is still interesting, but I don’t really like how everything connects back to the first season. I think it would have been better as a stand-alone story.
