Headlines Make For Scary Mystery
With all the news about the recent pandemic out and about, De Maria has captured the threat of a genetically modified “bug” that could be weaponized. Jake Scarne is called back to active service to help the Department of Defense trace where several mysterious outbreaks of illness came from and the person responsible. The fear of more serious outbreaks leads investigators on a wild chase which they hope to solve in time. Interesting characters enliven the search for the culprit.

Jake is called in with other government agents to identify & stop the spread of an unknown disease that has killed everyone in a small fishing village and at a Canadian monastery. Is the killer an employee of the CDC or another government lab entrusted with testing virolent diseases? Fast read, good plot. I rate this 9th in the series a 5.0.
