I was born and raised in upstate New York in the small, close-knit town of Elmira. I attended college at SUNY Alfred where I studied business. My husband and I currently live in North Carolina. I have always been an avid reader, mostly of mysteries and thrillers. After raising three children, I began working on my own writing. My first published novel, Rook, is the product of extremely hard work and dedication. Writing it has opened up a whole new world for me and I am beyond thrilled to share this part of my life with you all.
Description- A literary work showcasing many secrets waiting to fade into obscurity, however the unearthing of the same entails many consequences to be seen by readers
Book Plot- “There is nothing revolutionary whatsoever about the control of women's bodies by men. The woman's body is the terrain on which patriarchy is erected”. These lines are in a fairly poignant manner linked to the context of the literary work at hand for the simplicity of the quote lays down the whole foundation of the storyline as involved here. Delving further into the same the storyline is concerned with a locality which happens to be the habitat of the Twiss family and the brief vision that runs throughout is the everlasting quest of protecting one’s family. However the hidden truths surface when one comes to know the real side of the men whose nature is nothing short of overtly controlling and dominating and give experiences to women that has them terrified throughout. The further unfolding of secrets whose nature are grisly to say the least and adding to the same the revelations and the consequences forms a broad part of the story making it a must read for everyone

Every member of the Twiss family lives by the slogan Keep the family safe. Unfortunately, living up to this belief comes at a cost to everyone in Rook, New York... Rook is notorious for urban legends, hauntings, and a large number of people who have gone missing. The Twiss family has lived in this town since its inception.
They've always been a peaceful, hardworking neighbourhood. They do, however, hold deep and incredibly dark secrets. The Twiss men are excessively domineering and commanding, while the Twiss women are constantly terrified, a terror unlike any other. Each family member holds horrifying secrets from the others, which, if exposed, will put them all in grave danger. Who can be trusted, if anyone? As Addie, the family's youngest woman, grows older, her tenacity causes the family's women to rise and take a stand, but at what cost?
I don't like to spoil the secret for the readers what the book had to offer. But I can say that this book will engage you in your deep thoughts about the happenings and indulge you in the thrill for a long period.
I recommend this book to everyone who has a fascination with the mystery genre and feel attracted to thrill and excitement. A must-read.
Book - Rook Author - Kara Roach . ‘Knit your fingers, hold your breath, say to yourself this verse for death: Keeper of bones I know thy face, but I shall yet outstrip thy pace’. . Rook is about the Twiss family. A family full of dark secrets, secrets that could change everything to the core if they are out. The Twiss family has been habituated in the town since the very beginning. It is not like any other ordinary family. The women are undermined here and men are very controlling. One cannot even imagine the kind of lives the women of this family lead. . To those who abuse: the sin is yours, the crime is yours, and the shame is yours. To those who protect the perpetrators: blaming the victims only masks the evil within, making you as guilty as those who abuse. Stand up for the innocent or go down with the rest. . Always the innocent are the first victims, so it has been for ages past, so it is now. What happens if the dark secrets are out? Will the stature of women ever improve in this family?
The book is all about a place called Rook in the New York. Famous for its scenic beauty and hauntings as well, it offers more than it seems. Loaded with multiple characters and their POVs, it felt somewhat sorted to move on with the complicated storyline. Intriguing enough to have readers hooked from the first chapter itself which gave us some basic ideas with the place and what the story will lead us to. Tbh, I never thought it to be such a compelling book, moreover never expected it to be creepy enough. Be it Vernon, David or Stella- these unforgettable villains left me with deep impacts just as they had on Addie and Maudie. I truly appreciate the selfless and dedicated bonds they shared. The revelations were quite out of the box things for me as a reader.
DNF. I was fortunate to be selected for a free copy of this charming book. Pros: I enjoyed the large covers, pages, and print. The story line of this book would make a perfect read for a cool October day. The author’s descriptions of the Upstate New York landscape made me feel as though I had been transported back to my hometown in New York! Cons: Once I made it to page 80, I decided to put this book down as it wasn’t quite for me. I did feel some of the inital foundation for the storyline could have been worded in a cleaner fashion. What ultimately lead me to putting the book down was the lackluster style of writing that left me feeling uninspired and wanting more. While I am disappointed that I did not love this book, I am grateful for the opportunity to have been introduced to a passionate new author. I can appreciate the unique concept of the book and look forward to encouraging my friends to form their own opinions on Kara Roach’s work.
