The Teenager's Book of Life

Rate this book
Once in a while a book comes along just when it is needed. Teenagers are coming of age in an uncertain and sometimes scary world. The Teenager’s Book of Life gives young people the tools they need to take their first steps in a world that will ask a lot of them and can often be unforgiving. It helps them to be honest with themselves about who they are and where they want to go in life, and it encourages them to have the confidence to pursue their passions and reach for their dreams, regardless of their circumstances. For ten years Tony Griffin worked directly with teenagers listening to their greatest fears, worries and dreams. The Teenager’s Book of Life is the result of the work – a mosaic of stories, inspiring quotes and call-to-action exercises that guide teenagers on a journey of self-discovery and self-acceptance. Tony goes right to the core, examining the most important dilemmas every teenager faces, challenging them to believe in their abilities, value their uniqueness and appreciate the difference they can make by being true to themselves. Without sugar-coating the realities of life and the obstacles it throws in our way, The Teenager’s Book of Life speaks to the mind, heart and soul of every teenager, offering meaning, comfort and hard-won insight. An emotional rollercoaster of life-changing firsts, ecstatic highs and devastating lows needs a travel guide, and The Teenager’s Book of Life is exactly that.

I didn't think this was aimed at kids at all. I skimmed over everything after the first few chapters as I found it incredibly boring and cliched. Not something I would try push on my child as I know it wouldn't hold his attention. And the chapters with the interactions between "Romy and Bear" were just weird. Not at all the fun book that the cover depicts.

This author knew who he was writing to.
He must have helped so many teenagers reading this book by saying it like it is. By making our thoughts and feelings seem okay.
The segments of Bear and Romy are so innocent yet so true and adorable. They’ll become great friends I’m sure of it.
This week has been interesting and that was because of reading this amazing book. Maybe some topics were a bit deep at times but I’ll read it again soon at a stage in life when maybe I need it the most.
