The good + Young Vex + Vex's excitement about life and the things he taught his best friend about being proud of yourself and having fun + Vex complimenting his best friend all the time + Gramiel saving Vex from the angels + Gramiel's care for injured Vex + A peek at Gramiel's feelings
The neutral o Gramiel has always given Vex his all, yet Vex keeps erecting these walls between them to keep Gramiel away. He refuses to be vulnerable when with Gramiel, which is both fair and unfair
The bad - The series seems to skip all over the place. A new installment never starts immediately after the previous one ends, and it gets a little confusing sometimes
Quotes x "Have I ever mentioned that your brain is really, really cool? Like, literally the most fascinating lump of grey meat that exists anywhere?" "It's mostly golden light, actually, not meat. But thank you." x That he loved him was not in doubt. He loved him with every part of his being, loved him more than he'd ever loved another person, loved him more than he'd ever thought he could love another person.
I normally really dislike flashbacks, but I devoured this book. Amazing. I enjoyed it a lot.
This was about the impetus for The Plan and was, at the same time, full of adorableness and utter OW. There's both Vex and Gram being kids together, aaaaand then there's the story of Vex's torture and recovery at the hands of Heaven. So yeah, a big warning for ow and wanting to wrap both Vex and Gram very carefully in fluffy blankets and give them nice things.
This one gave us a much needed background story for the two main characters. I was confused at first but I caught on fast. Somehow this is my favorite one? It gives the overall story depth that it was missing before.
