Today is the most important day of my life. They call me in for an interview. Twenty applicants, so I am told, and I'm one of them. I would do whatever it takes to get hired. I need the money, and it's about time I finally got a job. But as I step into the elevator, and the doors close behind me, the lights go out and I'm trapped with a total stranger. Turns out he isn't any stranger. Turns out he's about to change my life.
☆ I received an ARC via JC Reed in exchange for an honest review. Thank you! ☆
3.5 stars!!
First off, there was a prequel before this? Wah, is there supposed to be some kind of interconnection between the two?
That said... I did enjoy this novel, it was not as dark as I thought it was going to be.
Some of it was a bit perplexing and dumbfounding as I was gyrated into yet another virgin story-line with a broken past.
Said virgin ends up needing a fake fiancee and from there it's a bunch of secrets, things not adding up, and lots of riddles.
To be honest, there was a huge foreboding undercurrent in the plot and character backgrounds as I was constantly trying to figure out A & B and motivations. I couldn't really tell what the deal with Chase was and was constantly trying to gage him and Laurie. I mean, what's the deal between them individually and as a duo? And what's with the cryptic inclination I'm feeling from the both of them? Especially Chase.
Anyway, can't wait for bk 2 to see the clues come together more and see what's in store for this couple!
I guess I only gave this 3 stars because it has a cliffhanger ending, and I don't like being trapped in a series in that way, especially since I have so many books to read.
However, having said that, the sexual tension building up as the reader progresses is a delicious tease that drives one on - maybe that's why the cliffhanger ending is a bit of a blow. The plot is good, sort of a reverse "PRETTY WOMAN", as our heroine Laurie gets an actor to play her fiancée to meet the conditions of an inheritance (her mother's letters).
The actor, Chase, is a likable guy as well as being hot (of course!), and he wants his role of Laurie's lover to become a real-life relationship. Herein lies the chase (pun definitely intended).
Perhaps I should have given it 4 stars. Oh well.
There is a prequel novella “THAT GUY”, so I just might check that out.
The first chapter just threw me off, and the storyline just doesn't flow for me at all. What did the elevator guy have to do with Lauren later? The story jumped around too much and gave no real prep to the reader or basis for the angst of the heroine. I feel like I just wasted $2.99, not sure what the check it's building up to! I won't be buying the next story, and I buy A LOT of books. Disappointed. J C Reed usually never disappoints but man missed the mark here.
the plot is incomplete - more explanation is needed to understand what is going on with the characters. I struggled to finish it. My head was further on than the plot trying to put the storyline together.
so lets see if I get the gist of the direction this is going in book 2.
Laurie just wanted one thing, one reminder from her past and in order to get it she needs her fake fiancee to suddenly appear. Deciding to hire someone to pretend the role has Laurie hedging on her decisions, especially once she meets Chase Wright. From the very beginning Chase has made his intention known, he wants Laurie intimately. Chase oozes raw sexual man, Laurie always promised herself never to get involved with a man, but Chase is tempting her and breaking down every wall she has shielded herself with.
I don't want to give too much away but holy moly was this a captivating read. You have Laurie who is a mystery and you are not sure why she needs a fiancee, it unfolds with the plot. Then you have Chase, who is his own brand of mysterious and you sense that there is a lot more to their meeting than meets the eye. I can't wait for the next book.
Short review here (full review after I finish the series).
This was good but not great. At times I found the story intriguing and suspenseful with some sexiness, chemistry and romance intertwined. But there were moments it seemed immature behavior and thinking was displayed by the heroine. I liked her okay and but just wish she was more consistent in her actions and behavior (thank goodness there weren't many). The hero Chase was, sexy, alpha, mysterious but sweet at times and he I loved!!!
Suspenseful plot and has you guessing about her family and what's going to happen ounces these two marry and what transpires with her Mothers letters.....
The romance has sexual tension, chemistry and a build up in their romance that I'm liking so far. On to book two.
**Book Reviewed for for Seraphim Book Reviews. A copy was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review**
What’s it all about?
Laurie and Chase. Working out their arrangement and dealing with each others (Mostly Laurie’s) stuff.
What I thought?
I didn’t know this was the first in a series…. I need more now! The previously released prequel was included in this book as a prologue and whilst I can’t see how on earth the two stories link, I, like others have my theories (Yeah I think elevator guy is Chase)
“Money can’t buy me, I chose this job because I wanted to. Not because I had to, and now I want to help you”
Laurie is a young, jobless virgin (Yeah, ANOTHER one of them!) whose dad is supposedly old school, so she decides she needs a fake Fiance to explain why she is living her independent life away from him. Turns out, he is not so old school, he’s just a bit of a dick and there is HUGE history there. We dont get it all in book one, but we get enough.
Chase *Sighs* is an “Actor” who takes on the job of playing her Fiance. He is playing it wayyyy to convincingly towards the end (which is what makes me think of the prequel - That Guy-).
“Everything we’ll do, we’ll do it together. As a team. Don’t tell anyone about this. The fewer people who know, the better”
I assumed this would be more dark than it was, but I wasn’t disappointed by the lack of darkness, I was impressed with the build up two it. It feels like book two is going to be darker…. and sexier… Wink Wink, Nudge, Nudge!
There where a few spelling mistakes that shouldn’t be there, because there were two authors here that missed them, but not so many that it annoyed me. And it is not 300 pages, it’s like 100 and something. And that Jude did my head in, I hope there is less of her in book two. Which I might have mentioned, I can’t wait for!
The reason I picked this up was because of the blurb. Big mistake on my end. This book makes no sense. The plot and overall story is confusing. The only redeeming part is Chase, an amazing hero. He's the reason I'm giving it 2 stars. Chase is so put of place in what I guess it supposed to be a more darker type of romance. Laurie's portrayal here is the big problem. She's trying to find a job, and can't, even though she comes from money. It appears her step-father is a nasty man, who may or may have not abused Laurie in some way. We don't know because the author uses a fail whale of a device in having Laurie constantly tell the reader and Chase, she just can't explain the why's of her past or give the facts out. We do know her mother is dead, and may have been mentally unstable, or her step-father made her so. It's all so vague for no reason whatsoever.
Chase enters the picture because Laurie needs a pretend fiance. He's an actor, or so we're led to believe, which is the only thing we know is not really true. Chase is very interested in being Laurie's pretend whatever, for reasons the reader can figure out right away based on the short prologue "The Guy" before the events of An Indecent Proposal begins. Whereas Chase is everything incredible, Laurie isn't. She's has no real personality and comes across as a wet dishrag. Her motivations don't really make sense because the reader isn't privy to why she has to do certain things. She wants her independence but is stuck because her step-father holds something over her head.
This is the start of a serial, but because of the convoluted plot and of Laurie, I'm not invested in continuing to the next installment.
Ok let me just say I love JC Reed, like really-really love her. With that said you can believe if she has a book releasing I am going to read it. This is the first time I read a book that she has co-authored and I was not sure how that was going to go to be honest but I can honestly tell you that both authors did an amazing job. They certainly put an interesting spin on the way they opened this book. Not with a prologue but with a prequel novella “THAT GUY” and wow what a way to start this story. I loved the start of this book! It had me wanting to know where things would go. They really kept me on my toes wondering how it would tie into this story but it does and it ties in with the series. While I read things started to come together. This is a short read but even with that there is so much that goes into it. There are secrets, some sexual chemistry, mystery and plenty of teasing.
Laurie’s mother has died but has left her some letters. The catch though, in order to retrieve those letters she has to be married. This is a big problem for Laurie because she is single and a virgin. She needs to find a husband and fast, sounds easy right? Laurie develops a plan to hire an actor to play the part of her fiancée. Laurie and her actor must persuade crucial people they are going to married. All she wants is her mother’s letters. She does not know what the letter’s contain but she believes it contains the answers she desperately has been looking for. Laurie’s best friend Jude recommends Chase, an actor. And this is where we meet Chase Wright. As soon as Laurie meets him she has an instant reaction to him. Even though she is totally attracted, she has no interest in becoming involved, she just wants those mysterious letters.
As time goes on, Chase knows that there is something more going on between them. He has no problem going from playing the part as the actor to really wanting to be with her. He wants to show Laurie that things could be more for them. Chase know that she wants him and he likes knowing it. The interactions between them is entertaining and grabs you. He likes to get a rise out of her and loves to take Laurie out of her comfort zone. Chase is confident and determined. He knows he wants and he will do want ever he needs to do to get her. Instead of a pushy dominant approach, he is willing to take his time with her, to go slow but it doesn’t mean he won’t make things interesting and hard for her either.
“Laurie, under different circumstances, I would ask you on a date?”
“The circumstances are as they are. It’s a job, and then we’re done.”
“Then let me make you feel what could be in between us, and you’ll change your mind.”
The plan was pretty straightforward. Introduce him to her stepfather Clint and get the letters. Chase Wright is handsome, like a major hottie and he is the perfect person to play the role of Laurie’s dotting fiancé. That is the thing about easy, things that are too easy are too good to be true. The more time Laurie and Chase spending together the more entwined the more real things become for her. There is more to this story than the love connection. There is something strange going on with Clint and the mystery surrounding Chase. Laurie is grateful that Chase is willing to help her with her plan but she is confused on what he really wants. Laurie is not sure how much she can put her trust in Chase. The banter and tension already had me invested but when the authors through in the mysterious element with some suspense it just completely gripped me.
“When are we going to do the deed? What I need to know in case they ask?”
“Obviously never, because we’re not getting married.”
I had some questions running through my head while reading this. Like, what is up with the creepy stepdad and seriously what is in those letters? Who is targeting Laurie? True to form for Ms. Reed the ending is a WHAMMY (that is her thing) and as a reader you are going to want to find out what is next for this couple. Readers are given an excerpt for the next book in this series and let me just say it was awesome. I love that the authors gave us a Chase POV but it has me wanting more. I mean who is Chase really? I can’t wait for the next book.
Sexy, intriguing, mysterious, this book had a little bit of everything. Laurie thought that by hiring Chase as her fake finance’ that her mother’s wishes had been fulfilled and she would finally receive what was dutifully hers. Apparently, her stepfather and his lawyer had other plans. Chase appeared to have fallen for Laurie and became intrigued by her situation, but he is not all that he appears to be. I will admit that I was getting a little frustrated with the heroine throughout part of the book, but I have got to find out what happens next. Those last chapters, giving you a little bit of insight to the sexy and broodingly elusive Chase almost made my heart stop. I cannot wait to find out what happens in the next book.
3.5 stars. I know this is a starter book but it needed to be deeper even with the cliffhanger. Laurie and Chase relationship is a hoax to get something for herself but when things take an unexpected turn Chase steps up to take over and help her but we find out it is more to all of it.
I would like to know the rest and Chase motives and what Clint is really up to.
We met Laurie Hanson in That Guy as she endured a frightening, disastrous situation with a mysterious stranger. We were teased with secrets and guilt from her past, but nothing definitive. Fast forward, a few months later and due to circumstances beyond her control, Laurie is in need of a fake fiance' fast. Where does one find a man to fake it with? Well, her best friend, Jude has a brilliant plan and makes it happen. Simple really...hire one. But she finds a candidate that sends Laurie reeling.
Unbelievabley stalkable. F***ably sexy. Simply Tastylicious. He was so hot he couldn't possibly be real.
Their initial interview is nothing short of awkward and mortifying for the much more naive Laurie, but there is a flash of forbidden interest too. She is very vocal about not wanting real marriage or relationships, but has an agenda and timeline that requires her to be attached soon. Her past shapes her perceptions, behavior, and plans for the future. But he seems interested in the prospect of helping her.
"Do you believe in destiny, Laurie?" "No, I believe in reality."
Chase Wright is full of smirks and surprises. He has charisma, a sense of humor, and is gorgeous and intriguing. Her puts her off balance, confuses her, and appears to be the only immediate answer to her dilemma. But he also begins to seem more interested than he is supposed to be. She is resistant, wants, rules and control and is determined to be fully professional and have nothing personal or intimate between them. But Chase has a few proposals of his own
"I believe there's more to us than meets the eye, and if we're willing to take a second look, past first impressions, then we might just find a sparkle we were too blind to see before."
And even she is not immune to his flirting and sexiness, and it becomes harder for her to keep up her defenses. But she has secrets, demons, serious trust issues, and is afraid to let anyone really in. And Chase seems to have a duality to him and his own secrets as well. There is an air of mystery about him that does not quite fit with his perceived image.
I realized he was like fire, and if I didn't stop this, I was going to get burned.
This story was one that kept me thinking and guessing while trying to figure out what they were both hiding. We get some answers, then more questions. I am still trying to wrap my head around how it all might fit together. Just when I thought I figured out a connection, something would change my mind. I am even more perplexed between the novella That Guy, this book, and then reading ahead to the prologue of the next installment. Because that prologue had my head spinning all over again.
This "couple" seems to getting in over their heads in various ways. There is so much going on under the surface. So much unknown about their pasts, and even current motivations. There are people around them with dubious intentions and even some apparent threats. It is hard to tell if it is all related or part of several plot lines merging together. But it is an intriguing ride.
The dynamics of their fake relationship seem to change and morph the more they are around each other. Each seem to have definite ideas of what is and isn't going on, but there is a definite push and pull between them. They are quite different in personality type and behavior, but seem to find more common ground than expected. It was told in Laurie's point of view so Chase really is an enigma. But it looks like we might at least get some of his point of view in the next one. I really want to get into his head more. Thankfully her outrageous room mate Jude brings in a lot of humor and sassiness. And the interactions between all of the characters can be witty and fun..
But their whole deal is based on lies, half-truths, secrets and hidden agendas. It is hard to tell who to trust and who has ulterior motives. And there seem to be other mysterious factors at that play adding more questions and challenges. I am interested to keep getting more insight into what their motivations are, what is really going on, and how all the little pieces fit together in An Indecent Proposal: The Agreement.
I was gifted a copy in exchange for an honest review.
but I had some issues with it. we're given this suspenseful beginning, that left you wondering a million things and waiting to find out what came of it. and then whomp whomp whomp! we get nothing else on it. I'm figuring it will get brought up again in the next instalment, but I would have like at least a mention of it or something, instead of just dropping it all together and leaving me with a billion questions. also some times there would be things between Chase and Laurie where I was like Stop! Wait a minute! (you totally sang that didnt you? hehe) tell me what the heck just went down? like things moved to quickly maybe? I mean they go from knowing each other half a day to Chase being all I like you? ehh not sure I'm on the same page there. I want me lead in personally. but I will say the banter and teasing between Chase and Laurie was good. it was definitely hot, and I do like a Chase (no pun intended)
also while I found Chase pretty cute, I have a lot of questions regarding him. I mean let me break it down. he gets hired by Laurie to be her fake fiance, but then there are just a few things like him saying he likes her so fast. and being willing to put up with her quite insane step daddy while getting nothing out of it. while I like generally good characters there is just something about him that is throwing red flags in my head. he's hiding something and I think he plants himself in Laurie's life a little to quickly. *WARNING! WARNING! DANGER WILL ROBINSON!
but with all that being said... I did enjoy this book. Chase is pretty adorable with his infectious smile and cocky ways, but he is also incredibly sweet (while still being on my suspicious side that is)
Laurie is one of those characters that I generally liked too. she reminds me a little of myself in how reserved and set in her single ways she is. She has a lot of things to deal with and she is as mysterious as a coursing river (for real) I mean I want to know what these secrets she mentions are, and what exactly happened to cause one or 2 of them.
so while this book did offer a rather shady side, I dis like it. and found the mystery and suspense fun.
I'm mad I found this book a week before the 2nd one is out though, because I want to know what happens NOW!! lol
it is a short read, and I found that actually pretty enjoyable. I know from experience that writing something shorter can actually be much harder, and I give J.C. and Jackie a whole lot of props for getting a pretty full story in a small amount.
I can't wait to see what's going to happen next, and find out what Chase isn't saying hehe ;)
Meet Chase Wright: he’s perfect. He’s handsome. He’s hot. He’s an actor. He’s Laurie’s fake fiancé. It was supposed to be a simple job: introduce him to her stepfather, get what she wants and have a clean break. But the longer Chase stays in her life, the more entangled he becomes, and the more danger he poses into her heart.
He knows he affects her, and he does not apologize about it. I love how he teases her, how he tries to get her off her comfort zone. He knows what he wants, and he’s willing to get it. But not force it. He will take his time – but meanwhile, he was content on teasing her.
The mystery surrounding the handsome Chase and her stepfather had me hooked into this book. Who is Chase? What is with her stepfather? What’s in those mysterious letters that she wanted to bad enough to hire a fake fiancé? Although, it would have been an added bonus to have Chase’s POV somewhere in between, a sneak peek tells us that we wouldn’t wait too long.
This ends in a cliffy, so for those who don’t fancy that kind of ending, better be warned.
J.C. Reed writes great plot when it comes to mystery, imagine when she’s paired with another author, Jackie Steele? Additional mystery, suspense, thrill and steam. I enjoyed reading this novel, all those baffling mystery behind, the danger that is lurking around them, and the attraction that's too strong it's impossible to ignore.
“I’m not like other men. I don’t want to do anything that could hurt you, Laurie.”
“For a few long moments, we just started at each other in silence, the air between us thick like winter’s fog. I knew if I dared to walk in, I might get lost forever.”
“Wearing my clothes suits you. You know what was in those shorts? Now they’re brushing your skin. It’s almost like I’m touching you… down there.”
My Review:
An Indecent Proposal is my first read for either author, and I had no idea that J.C. Reed or Jackie Steele were going to be such evil teases! The story is interesting if not a tad familiar (fake boyfriend), but it does have its own twists and tweak’s to keep it fresh. I felt teased as the main story was rather slow to develop, and the characters did not kiss until 70% into the book, or share an intimate moment until I was at the 90% mark. Say what now? Yet the story held my interest, despite the fact that I found the main female character annoying and mousy… I wanted to give her a good pinch – or ten. Although the dreaminess of the mouth-watering man-meat more than made up for her less than pleasing attributes. But I have yet another issue… I am stewing at the ending… there wasn’t one… it just stopped. I despise cliffhangers with the heat of a thousand suns, I resent them more than bratty children throwing tantrums in movie theaters, or babies screaming on an airplane… but damn… I fear I am hopelessly on the hook, caught in the trap, snagged in the net. I want to know what happens to this pitifully weak girl and her hunky store-bought boyfriend… and I really must know what is under the surface of that sinister step-father and his sleazy lawyer. UUHHHG, enquiring minds want to know - and that is something I have always been plagued with. Those wicked writers played me - but I fell for it, and I fell hard. Sigh… sign me up for Book 2 please.
Ahh...this left me with more questions than answers, but then I guess that's the beauty and the annoyance of reading a series. I wish I had looked into this more when I started it, had I realised it was part of a series (an incompleted series) I wouldn't have read it and would have waited for the whole series to be released! Saying that I'm still not sure what I think of this. I just want to say that this book gets better the further on you go. The last 20% was great and I think the next book is going to be so good. The story seems to be coming together more and you really get into it towards to the end. The prequel was really intriguing and my first thought from that was that this book is going to be amazing. Yet, even as I finished this first book I don't understand the significance of the prequel. I have a theory of how it will be worked into the story but I would have liked to know a bit from this book. it is like the prequel is completely irrelevant. There is something mysterious about Chase and maybe that is the part of the puzzle I'm missing. I'm definitely looking forward to finding out more about him and why he wants a to help Laurie so much. There is just something about him that I can't put my finger on. I don't know what to think of Laurie. She seems to have so much weight on her shoulders. She gives us bits of information of her life but I sense there is something more, surely there is more to it than the letters. I'm really hoping that we get some answers in he next book so will be watching out for it. Until then, I am left both intrigued and frustrated by this book. At the end of this book you get to read an excerpt, the prologue, from the next book and now it has left me with even more questions. The main one being who the hell is Chase?! This next book is going to be very interesting indeed!
With every book J.C writes I enjoy it more and more.
I could not put this book down. I was stuck, glued to my kindle. Make sure you give yourself time to read this!
We meet Laurie Hanson as she is about to interview for an internship. Things happen and she never makes it to the actual interview.
We see how hard, and strenuous life is for Laurie. There are things in her life, her past, she doesn't share with any one, not even Jude, her best friend and roommate.
Jude is the rock and free spirit Laurie needs to keep her afloat. When it becomes clear that the only way to get her life on track, Jude gets Laurie a fake fiance.
Chase Wright is the sexy actor Jude finds for Laurie to hire as her stand in fiance. He is sexy and mysterious but sweet and caring. All the thing Laurie wants but didn't need right now.
What happens when Chase gets to close?
Will Laurie pull down her walls for him?
Well he share his past with her?
What happens when Laurie's past comes to haunt her? Will Chase be able to keep her safe?
Well, we have to wait for book 2 to see what happens next. I'm on pins and needles here... I need to know what's going to happen next. I really started to fall for Chase and his sweet, sexy, mysterious self, but what is he hiding? Ugh!!!
I love a great cliff ending! Can't wait for the next installment in this hot new series!
The blurb on this one intrigued me enough to decide to read it. It's an interesting premise--and I was curious about what would make the rules change, from engagement to marriage. So, curiosity gets the better of me and I'm diving into this book!
Laurie is in a bind and she needs a fake fiancé to take care of some business. It seemed simple enough. Then she finds Chase, and he is more than happy to do this for her. Their chemistry is definitely there, despite the fact that it's not supposed to be real. And then when it becomes necessary to change the game with getting married, it appears like Chase really cares for her and is willing to do anything to help her out.
An Indecent Proposal is the kind of book to suck you in, but it leaves you hanging. I liked the attraction between Laurie and Chase, it was believable, and yet there was so much that felt like it was missing. Pieces weren't falling together completely. However, the story was intriguing enough that I may decide to pick up the continuation by J.C. Reed and Jackie S. Steele someday.
Lauren (Laurie) Hanson ran away from money and stability to have her own independence and to be able to live her own life on her terms. But now she is in need of a fake fiancée so she can get what she has really only ever wanted. Chase Wright is a hot gorgeous mysterious actor that Laurie hires to help her fake out her step-father so she can get what her mother left her. She wants this to be a business deal and he wants this to be more than just a deal. There is so much mystery in this book and it is killing me, because normally I can figure things out. BUT not this one. Laurie has secrets in her past that is clearly preventing her from actually having a happy/normal future. Chase is well one big mystery, because I have no idea what his mission is. I mean don't get me wrong I love Chase and hell I will date him/marry him if Laurie will not go through with it but I still don't understand him. Then once things are starting to get really juicy it ends. I will not lie....I did throw my kindle down and said a few words that I am not proud of. LOL but I have to blame the authors because they did one hell of a job with keeping the readers on their toes. This last thing that I will say is that I will be stalking their author pages so I will know when book 2 comes out!
I found this story so confusing. First you start off with a prequel with Laurie in the elevator meeting a handsome guy who she proceeds to get stuck in the elevator with. There is real chemistry between them, but she never gets his name. She did reveal a few of her deep dark secrets to him, thinking this was the end of her life. All of sudden rescue comes and she is saved - but the guy ? We don't know what happened. Now to this story and it starts off 3 months later. No explanation, she just needs a fake fiancé. The whole story is confusing with Step-Father and of course Chase.
I understand that the author is not well, and I hope she gets better ! She did mention in a post that she is trying to finish 2 sequels and has had to postpone their release.
Of course this book ends in a cliffhanger, and after finishing it we are left with more questions about all of the characters. I have developed some theories on who Chase might be, but I really hope the sequel is out soon.
My recommendation, if you don't like cliffhangers and having to wait for the next sequel, I suggest you wait to read this series when it is all completed. I know if and when the sequel does come out, I will have to reread the whole thing all over again just to remind myself of the story.
“What makes you so sure about that?” “I see it in your eyes, Laurie.” He got up and closed the space between us. Ready to sweep me off my feet. Ready to drown me in the lust I was beginning to feel for his hard body. Luckily, our booth was shielded from prying eyes. “You’ll have to get used to your needs,” he whispered. “If you don’t listen to your body, your passion will make you unhappy, and I can’t afford that.”
My review: I thoroughly enjoyed the story in An Indecent Proposal, and in the hours I spent reading, I got to know Laurie and Chase very well. There is chemistry between them and there is plenty of sexual tension filled throughout the book.
My body wanted him and only him....
But damn, the ending! I so wanted to read on. *curses* I'm more than eager to read on to see what happens next. I have a feeling, but I'm not going to spoil the story for other readers.
I was given a copy of An Indecent Proposal to read/review.
While I found it a quite a light hearted book to read, I did enjoy it tremendously.
I did think that in this day and age at 22, the main character Lauren was slightly unrealistic to be portrayed as a little naive virgin, but that was how she was written into the story and she became like a fire rocket once introduced to a little action.
Chase was a dream, who wouldn't want him on their arm for a hour, a day, a night etc etc.
In this state of the date market, when time is money, and woman are in roles of power not just in the kitchen, arrangements like this are bound to be more fact than fiction I'm sure of that.
So if you would like a light hearted novel to read, that does have a cliff hanger series attached to it, I do recommend this as being that for you.
I love JC Reed so I will automatically read anything that she writes.
I was thrown by the elevator scene? How is this man going to fit into everything? Who is he?
Throughout the story we get just enough pieces to show us that there is more to Laurie and her past. Laurie is so sweet and still a virgin and she just wants to live her life independently and to break away from the life provided for her by her mother. The only thing she wants of her mothers are the letters that her mother left to her in the will, but she need to have a fiancé (make that husband) by her 23rd birthday.
Enter Chase, actor, who just happens to be found on the internet by Laurie's roommate but something just doesn't add with up Chase. Sure he is hot and rich, so what would somebody like him be needing a job as a fake fiancée for? I believe there is more to Chase and the step-father than meets the eye and I can't wait to get more of this story to see what happens next.
The storyline just didn't match up to the prequel all that well. I'm sure it only because book 2 will tie everything up for us.
What I do know, Chase is the mystery guy from the elevator. The death she feels responsible for is her mother's. Her step father is an overall grade A a*s.
What I think I know... Her stepfather helped push her mother over the deep end. The step father was doing something illegal??
Question... Where does Chase fit in all this crazy stuff. Interesting read.... plan on following it up come Spring!!!!
This was a great read. It is about a girl who is running away from her family and all the money that comes with it. She is trying to make it on her own due to her mother told her. According to her mothers last will and testament, she wouldn't get any money from the estate the only thing she would get are her moms letters after she died. But the condition was she had to be married by her 23 bday. She hired an actor to married her so she could get them. I really enjoyed the book not only for the romance, but for the friendship she had with Jude and the mystery of what would happen next.

The storyline is really good, unique & interesting. The characters are also intriguing & likable, so the book itself had the makings of a 4 or 5 star read, for me. However, there seemed to be a lot of repetition in the dialog & the heroine was fighting her attraction just a little too hard without giving the reader much of a good enough reason why. So, unfortunately, I started skipping over parts of the book, which is an automatic 3 star, for me.
Should have checked/realised this was a series before I started the free book - now I'm intrigued to know what happens even though I'm not particularly enjoying it.
