Funny, tender and hot
4.5
I loved the characters in this part of the series: Nico, the untameable prince who refuses to submit to his royal role and flees to a luxury hotel until his family blocked his money and he decides to work anonymously in the hotel where he is, rather than returning to his country with his bodyguard; and Cassie, the reporter, also undercover who is going to investigate and who is looking for a subject in this same hotel, spotting that something does not fit on the 2 other new employees
The story is funny, tender, hot, a little predictable, but still exciting

This was a slow burn romance story.

I have loved the books in this series, but I have a huge problem with this book - the premise does not work. Prince Nikolai and his bodyguard cannot work in the US without a work visa and social security card. Ms. Procter being the hotel manager would know this and not allow Swiss nationals to work off their debt nevermind that their IDs would not match the fake names they provided.

Aside from that, the story itself was steamy, angsty and funny. The primary characters were engaging and the secondary characters added depth to the story.

I had a lot of issues with this book.
1. Niko and Markus working off their debt would be illegal on so many levels. I wonder how many similar arrangements have been made (honestly, this could've been Cassie's story right there, if she actually was looking for one). And what happened to the woman who made the arrangement once Niko's true identity was revealed?
2. Cassie works for a company owned by her best friend's fiance and is going undercover at a luxury resort owned by her best friend's fiance. Yeah, no bias here.
3. How do the royals come across as some of the least entitled and privileged people in the book (other than paltry smattering of other resort employees we meet)? Veronica and Lara were the epitome of this, even when they weren't pretending to be over-the-top needy resort patrons. I liked Veronica a lot better in her book; she was more relatable. And seriously, Lara can't bother to learn her security guards names, she just refers to them as the short one and tall one?
4. I felt lust and physical chemistry between Niko and Cassie, but I got no emotional connection. Niko seems to think he can solve all his problems with Cassie and win her back with sex. Cassie becomes brainless when she's near him. Or sees him. Or thinks of him. Which apparently is all the time. Was there a grand gesture? I can't remember. I felt that Niko's family made it on his behalf by extending their invitation to Cassie.
5. I'm guessing that if I analyzed a lot of romance novels, they would fail the Bechdel test. But it's usually not noticeable (at least to me). I felt that this book not only failed the Bechdel test, but it stabbed it to death and buried it in an unmarked grave.
6. Back to the resort again-- does Cassie actually spend any time working Guest Services? Who's covering when she's out playing tennis or being pulled away by her friends? Does she actually converse with other employees? Because really, she wouldn't be endearing herself to them. (Side note: Do other employees get pulled away from their assigned duties to cater to the guests? If so, how many people are working at any given time to provide coverage?)
7. Cassie's letter and Niko's repeated reading of it. Is he really that clueless?
8. Gender-neutral bathrooms-- I'm in favour. However, I hope the resort has taken measures to make these safe, and make people using them feel safe. At the same time, I feel like the author included these as a convenient plot device.
9. That singles auction. The Viennese waltz-- why? And how can we expect that the resort employees didn't feel at least a little bit coerced into participating if they were asked? And where were all these other employees anyway......
There were moments late in the book that I liked. The writing itself is good. But I just couldn't believe what I was reading.
I received and ARC and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Mercer Scott, ‘Falling Ever After’.
Falling in Maui, book 4.
A forced proximity, secret prince on vacation romantic comedy.

As an Hidden Gems ARC reader I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily promised an honest review. Here it is.

Rating: 3 (of 5 stars).

In general: Journalist falls for Prince.

Main characters:

- Nikolai ‘Niko’ Ulsbrennt (29).
Prince of the monarchy Ulsbourg. He’s fourth in line for the succession to the throne. Not being the first heir gave him the chance at a life with a lot of wild parties, booze and women. But after yet another scandal his mom, the queen, orders him to help his dutiful older brother, the crown prince.
However Niko hates a life of cutting ribbons etc, so - together with his bodyguard Markus - he flees to Maui. His mother immediately cutts of all his credit cards. But Niko refuses to give in and both, Niko and Markus take jobs at the resort as sport instructors to prove to his family that he doesn’t need their money.

- Cassie Cartwright (±28).
She’s a journalist. At the moment she has a problem: she cannot find topics for an interesting story. So, one of her best friends, Lara, arranges a fake job in Guest Services for her at an exclusive, luxury resort at Maui, owned by her wealthy fiancé.
Cassie hopes that people talk more freely when they don’t know she is a journalist.

Cassie and Niko meet while working on the resort. Both lie about their real identity. And that becomes a problem for step by step they fall in love. The author, Mercer Scott, creates a lot of funny scenes in which their heavy petting again and again is interrupted by others. The story is often a bit too fanciful and definitely towards the end not very according to the reality of life in a royal family. But the book is full of humor, with wonderful characters and sweet dialogues.

Journalist Cassie Cartwright is in a bit of a writing slump, so she arranges to work at the Montclair Hotel for a while to try to find a new story. She definitely wasn’t looking for love, but when she meets Niko Johansson, sparks fly immediately. Since she’s working undercover, Cassie doesn’t want to start anything with anyone, because she’d feel guilty for lying. But Niko isn’t backing down without a fight, and he’s definitely pursuing Cassie. And the more time she spends with him, the more her resolve weakens.

Prince Nikolai of the kingdom of Ulsbourg has really done it this time. He’s messed up enough that his mother, Queen Elspeth, has put a hold on all his credit cards. Forced to work at the Montclair Hotel in Maui in lieu of a debt he owes, the last thing Niko expects is to catch feelings for one of his coworkers. But that’s exactly what happens when he meets Cassie, a woman who works in Guest Services. Cassie is the first woman he’s ever wanted something more with, and he doesn’t want to ignore that. But first, he must win Cassie’s heart, all the while never revealing his Royal status.

Holy flipping hell, I cannot express how much I loved this book. Cassie was exactly the kind of heroine I love, full of sass and fire, which Niko appreciates too. As for Niko, he could be arrogant at times, but he also had a soft side that was surprising considering his reputation before Cassie. Together, they had all this pent up energy, and the explosion is totally worth the wait! I can’t wait to see what happens next in Maui!!

This is a cute story of a journalist who falls in love with a playboy Prince pretending to be a commoner. Lara set up Cassie with an undercover gig at Deacons Maui Resort, Montclair as Cassie honeysuckle in hopes she gets her writing mojo back. Cassie was not expecting to ever see the insanely hot guy with his pants at his ankles while with another woman in the lady's bathroom ever again. Prince Nikolai doesn't fit in with the royals and refuses to follow his brother around doing boring duties, he rater have fun. However, after Niko is involved in yet another embarrassing tabloid scandal his family forces him to fulfill his duty, as fourth in the royal succession. Niko flees to Maui escaping his duties, his mother cuts his credit card forcing him to accept work at the resort to pay for the room he and his bodyguard, Markus stayed in. Niko and Cassie are thrown together at Montclair's causing sparks to ignite. Both Niko and Cassie have secrets that can destroy what they have been building. Cassie realizes Niko is not the Playboy out of control the media writes about, there's a whole side she's only seen. I absolutely loved hearing from Lara, Victoria, Bridget and Natalia. I especially loved Mrs. H and Mrs. P and the tennis lessons. This is a fun, sweet, funny, adorable, sexy and drama filled story that takes place in Maui. Hot, sweet and sexy prince, sweet independent reporter in Maui by the beach in paradise, what more can you ask for? I absolutely love all the Maui series books and can't wait to read Bridget's story next.

Niko and Cassie. Another fantastic couple . I started reading this author’s book with book one in this series and I’ve have loved each one. A group of strong totally different female best friends. Cassie is the reporter with no time for love. She’s got writers block. So she asks her friend a favor , allow Cassie to go undercover at her friend’s fiancé’s hotel in Maui. Niko is a spoiled playboy prince. When his mother, the Queen, lays down the law he flees their country and goes to Maui. He gets into more trouble when it’s discovered his mother canceled all his credit cards. The hotel agrees to hire him in as a tennis pro to pay off his debt. No knows his true identity. Cassie and he don’t it it off at all but it can’t be denied there’s a strong attraction that grows! Love how the BFF band together when there’s trouble. A funny sexy romance!

*SPOILERS*

This was my first time reading a Mercer Scott book and I really enjoyed it! I loved her writing style and how she brings characters to life.

I LOVED Cassie! She was so cool! So strong and confident with a heavy dose of sass. Niko, or shall we call him one more time (😜) His Royal Highness, was yummy. The playboy prince finally met his perfect match in Cassie! I loved her girlfriends too, I loved the text messages between them all, I was laughing so hard. There was also the bits that made me howl, mainly from Cassies side, she is hilarious.

I love reading from both characters points of view and Mercer did that superbly.

I will definitely be reading more from Mercer and look forward to Bridgets book.. please 🙏🏻

Thank you Mercer.

The fourth book in the Falling in Maui series (third I have read) is so good, just like the previous books! A prince and a reporter are undercover at the resort for different reasons. They cannot seem to stay away from each other, making for some very good steamy scenes. But it all blows up when they find out who the other really is. They both lied. They both got hurt. But there story didn't end there, thanks to his meddling family.
I honestly wasn't sure in the first couple chapters if I would ever warm up to like Niko, the prince, but as he becomes himself while no one knowing who he really is, he becomes a likeable character, and even more once he's home and finally realizes what he really wants in life and that he can have it.

*I am leaving an honest and voluntary review after receiving this book as an ARC.

Details don’t count
Since this is fiction the fact that there were technicalities that didn’t add up have to be ignored or you won’t be able to enjoy this book (difficult though it may be). Cassie and Nikolai are both in Maui to “put their lives back together”. However, their respective secrets create a major problem as they both realize they really don’t know who or what the other is. Even the secondary characters are interesting and add greatly to the story.

Fun read! Cassie is having a problem with writer's block so she goes undercover at one of Maui's most exclusive resort (it good to have friends in high places ), she's looking for inspiration. What she doesn't expect is the player tennis pro that starts the same day she did. Plenty of tension and fun characters, great loyalty in friends

If you're looking for a beach read I can recommend Falling Ever After. There's a gorgeous playboy prince in disguise slumming it up giving you tennis lessons, an undercover writer on an assignment at a luxury resort in Maui, sex on the beach, some funny banter... What else do you need?

The first time Cassie sees Niko he's got his pants down in a bathroom with some other woman but it turns out he's not quite the womanizer she pictures him to be, at least, not with anyone else but Cassie. There is a strong attraction between them that Cassie keeps thinking she should deny. But usually if Niko gets close enough he can make her change her mind in just a few touches and say yes to anything he suggests. Outside interference keeps them from fully consummating the relationship for a while and when they do it ends in a paparazzi disaster. Cassie thinks life as she knew it is all over but then Niko's brother the Crown Prince interferes.

This was my first book by Mercer Scott and I enjoyed it a lot although any more of Cassie's will-she-won't-she might have become old, very old.

I received an ARC version that contains a few minor typos (dears-years, suite-suit, thinks-things, public-pubic, that sort of thing) and a couple of tiny continuity errors. In one scene Cassie's resort boss uses her real last name that she is not supposed to know yet, and in another scene Cassie is apparently wearing both giant granny panties and a lacy thong. These do not take away the reading pleasure and may have been corrected in the published version.

This has been a voluntary honest review.

Overall I liked this book. Niko is a prince and he is off trying to prove to his family he doesn't need them or their money. He ends up meeting Cassie who is also pretending to be someone she isn't. They of course fall for each other and there are some complications. Luckily it all works out in the end and they get their happy ending.
