"A raging pandemic, a dearth of life-saving equipment, and ninety days to manufacture a world-class ventilator. On 24 March 2020, a nationwide lockdown was imposed in India in the face of a formidable adversary, the Covid-19 pandemic. With the number of cases increasing exponentially, hospitals were faced with a dangerous shortage of life-saving equipment and personnel. In response to the imminent crisis, Amitabha Bandyopadhyay and Srikant Sastri formed the IIT Kanpur ventilator Consortium as a task force to assist a young startup, Nocca Robotics, in building affordable high-quality ventilators for India s cash-strapped hospitals. Under the mentorship of reputed industry leaders, the task force and the Nocca team worked tirelessly against unprecedented odds trammelled by a ban on imports and telecommuting through Zoom and Whatsapp in the face of stringent lockdown restrictions to manufacture the Noccarc V310 in record time. This is the incredible story of its conception, creation and success, in the words of the task force co-leaders themselves. Inspiring and riveting, The Ventilator Project also offers an unmatched blueprint for business in the post-Covid era through first-hand lessons gleaned during the task force s phenomenal ninety-day run. It proves that India, with its deep recesses of talent and ingenuity, has the potential to be world leaders in both business and social impact."
Being mainly a fiction enthusiast, I pick up nonfiction only once in a while but what made me choose "The Ventilator Project" was the 'nothing is impossible' element hidden in the blurb, the challenging factors, inspiring motif, besides everything, irresistible call to tackle a crisis into an opportunity tone. And thus I decided I needed to read this book!! - this uplifting story of twenty brilliant minds who despite all the hardships came together and made history by making a world class ventilator of low-cost in a record time of ninety days during the pandemic. What an exemplary feat!
A million thanks to the authors, who are also the brilliant minds behind the The Ventilator Project to not only answering to the cry of the medical equipment industry but also being an inspiration to young techies.

Not all heroes wear capes or play lead roles fighting against the villains. Some, amidst a deadly pandemic, unite together thus, forming a league of heroes and respond to the nation's desperate calls for help and rescue by coming up with a world-class ICU ventilator in just 90 days!
The brightest and truest example towards making an "Atmanirbhar Bharat" (self-reliant India) has been showcased by "The Ventilator Project" team. The ICU ventilator - " Noccarc V310" is the brain child of a young and dynamic start-up Nocca (whose founders are the alumni of IIT Kanpur) yet mothered and fathered by an absolutely awe-inspiring and dedicated task force consisting of a highly-powered amalgam of members from different fields of science and technology - both academia and industries.
The year 2020, in the month of March, witnessed a global lockdown and India was no behind. With the world's second largest population and one of the largest democracies, India was not only plunged into a dark crisis in the wake of a forbidding pandemic but also was made to face challenges in every aspect of life. However, it was this very pandemic that brought about a breakthrough in the entrepreneurship and business ecosystem of India. And the living example of one such success story is that of the @noccarcrobotics initially incubated at @incubatoriitk in 2016 and now came to be known as the Nocca, which was the talk of the nation!
Through The Ventilator Project, the authors have indeed proved that even at the times of global crisis with non-availability of resources, it just takes the right amount of passion, dedication, an idea, strict deadlines, a champion, a safe environment and sacrosanct virtual interactions in order to serve the nation and its needs! What would not have otherwise been achieved in a period of 2- 3 years, has been marvelously achieved fulfilling the global requirements in a span of just 90 days. I am in absolute awe, having explored this extremely daunting journey of the authors and the ventilator team. And I won't even mind if a movie adaptation is ever made of this in future. 🙌
Title - The Ventilator Project Author - Srikant Sastri and Amitabha Bandyopadgyay Publisher - Macmillan Genre - non fiction Pages - 248 Format - hardcover
The story is about that how the IITian Kanpur consortium made a wonderful product during the lock down of 2020 due to covid 19. The author has very well narrated the struggle of IIT Kanpur consortium to made this life saving machine, Ventilator. As we know need is the main cause of invention. During covid 19 there is shortage of ventilators. At that time a group of engineers of IIT Kanpur came in contact with each other and made this ventilator beyond the expectations.
The cover and the title is totally appropriate. The plot of the book is very inspiring, challenging and knowledgeable. The book is divided into 2 sections -
1. 90 day saga which includes 17 chapters. 2. Big hopes which includes 8 chapters.
These chapters are written like a movie in which every incident is connected with each other. So one cannot feel bore during reading this manufacturing story.
Overall, a motivational read with so many lessons.
Remember the clarion call of the prime minister of the country, Aapda mein avsar? WHO projected that one out of six people would be seriously ill that would need ventilator support. There was an ongoing pandemic and a great demand for low cost ventilators that would ultimately save millions of lives. Then, PM announced the innovation challenge and IITK’s startup Nocca Robotics took the lead. This book tells us what innovation really means. A bunch of talented individuals from the IITK consortium coming together to solve a problem and helping those who are in dire need. They achieved this unbelievable feat in just 90 days and the best thing is, all this happened when the country was still dealing with the pandemic. This “little” ventilator project broke the monopoly of a handful of foreign companies. Stories like this should be told because of the sheer hope that they provide. It is very easy to criticize anything and everything, respect is earned when you rise above the hate and bring actual change in the society and for this project, they deserve that respect. If you follow the news, you must have seen that Nocca Robotics had to ask for the Centre’s assistance because of the sudden increase in demand. That’s how successful their product was. The book discussed the problems they faced during the process, from ideation to team management to production to certification. The book will make you feel proud as a citizen of this country and will make you believe again in the power of start-ups. The goal went from fulfilling a need to building a world-class product that could be exported and could match international standards. The authors are Srikant Sastri and Amitabha Bandyopadhyaya, two great minds who were involved in entrepreneurship and bioengineering respectively. This amalgamation of academia, business and technology helped The Ventilator Project see the daylight.
The book is the portrayal of the striving excursion of IIT Kanpur Consortium to fabricate the life-saving machine named ventilator.
During Coronavirus, Hospitals were confronting a perilous deficiency of life-saving hardware and staff as the quantity of cases expanded dramatically.
Because of the approaching emergency, Amitabha Bandyopadhyay and Srikant Sastri established the IIT Kanpur Ventilator Consortium as a team to help a youthful startup, Nocca Robotics, in building reasonable great ventilators for India.
The Ventilator Project is both motivating and riveting, and it additionally gives an unparalleled model to business in the post-Covid period, in light of direct exercises picked up during the team's unimaginable ninety-day run. It shows that India, with its huge supplies of ability and imagination, can possibly lead the world in both business and social effect.
Above all else, I need to thank the writer for composing this book with the goal that the perusers know about this unbelievable occurrence. This book is an image of the earlier year fear which we as a whole experienced during the lockdown. Any uplifting news was a shelter for that time and this was far more than uplifting news. I loved the idea of it.
I need everybody to peruse the book to think pretty much all the cycle they go through to at last give us moderate ventilation for India.
It is very essential to understand that nothing worth in life comes easy. All good things take time and need to be earned with relentless hard work and efforts. It truly takes a lot to be from where you are and where you want to be and this polarity can only be substituted by working hard for it. The ventilator project is a story of incredible proficiency to do something incredible at the time of catastrophe. A group of highly energized individuals from IIT Kanpur Consortium manufactured a world-class ventilator within 90 days amidst the Covid-19 lockdown. The book is about an inspiring endeavour carried out by the Indian youth.
The book has talked about numerous breakthroughs during the time of manufacturing. It does convey critical discourses on ingenuity, management and leadership.
The terminology used is moderate, and technical terms are adequately clarified. Very immersing read. The book encourages us to accomplish the difficult and impossible tasks of life.
A must-read for young thinkers and there is so much one can take out of this book.
In 2020, COVID 19 hits India and the central government announced a nationwide lockdown in March 2020 to control the crisis.
India is one of those countries where medical staff and equipment are not available in sufficient quantities to tackle such a pandemic. And as Covid 19 affected lungs most which increased the demand for ventilators and to pacify the demand 20 youths joined hands to build their ventilator amidst the lockdown.
The book shares the journey of the IIT Kanpur Consortium that manufactured these live-saving device within 90 days.
The book not only shares how the ventilator was manufactured but also have ideas and plans about how young entrepreneurs can run their business post covid.
The language of the book is moderate and the medical terminologies used are explained properly which make the book easy for a layman.
Recommend this book to young minds who want to achieve new heights.
First of all, a huge round of applause to all the medical workers and also to all the people associated in this field, who spend day and night to make India recover from this health crisis. . At the time when lockdown was declared on 23rd March 2020 India was surely not prepared to face the upcoming health crisis that was about to loom over its head. Lack of medical equipments was sure to create a havoc among the patients and was a possible threat to their life. Admist this time of distress and anxiety, IIT Kanpur came up with an idea to build ventilators and help India in assisting during this crisis. Although the planning was going on, but to carry on with the project and to execute it wasn't an easy task. Shipping was halted, industries were shut down (except for few), markets were closed and during this time when video and voice calls were the only option to conduct a meeting, of course the team faced tremendous amount of challenges. But challenges is what makes tasks interesting. The IIT Ventilator Project didn't stop however amount of challenges they faced. They went on, without any special government support, and built a world-class Ventilators during the time of Covid-19. . Srikant Sastri and Amitabha Bandyopadhyay through this book, 'The Ventilator Project' have bought into light the story on how the Nocca Team with the mentorship of reputed leaders, and several IIT alumni have tirelessly worked to create a history in the field of medical science. This book gives a ray of hope that if you have determination to create something however difficult time may be with a proper plan and good assistance you can give it a reality. The most amazing thing about this whole project was that it gave chance to young start-ups which felt so encouraging to read about. . Crisis is still looming over our head. India still have far more goals to achieve in the medical field. At the moment we are witnessing probably the worst healthcare crisis ever. The only hope we have is on these innovative minds to come forward for India and help overcome the crisis. Not only now but forever. Sadly, government doesn't do much investment in them so many at times it fails before anything starts. Anyways, all we can hope is for the best and believe in ourselves (which really doesn't work much but still). Hope that we can overcome this period of grief.
The book seems a script of a blockbuster like Sholay with many strong characters with each of whom bringing great contribution during several twists in the plot and immense value to the storyline. A remarkable true story so well told that is captivating and addictive like a web series. The authors have structured the book well with addendums in each chapter in the form of takeaways and a startup toolkit.
Its a compendium not only for startups, which both the authors are adept at leading, motivating and mentoring, but for professionals as well with a robust recipe of success in different sectors, functions and business situations.
It is also a very well researched book with insights from more than 20 experts from diverse fields such as sports and film-making as well as academia and industry. The takeaways in each chapter present very useful quick and precise summary for a lazy reader like me. This book also brings huge value to the practitioner's world, though the primary target audience remain startup enthusiasts, with the authors offering lots of management wisdom through commentary on sourcing and supply chain strategies, negotiations, and decision making, to name a few.
However, the book's core thesis remains the spirit of innovation demonstrated by a capable set of young engineers supported by a task force comprising who's who of the medtech and related sectors in India with several other global experts. This is an exciting account of a startup winning a tough battle to prove its mettle during covid pandemic that we experience. When behemoth like automobile giants despite tall claims of creating ventilators quickly could not succeed, this startup team comprising five members could turn the table and Succeed despite so many odds against them. This story is a representation of indomitable will of a reaource strapped developing nation who faced a herculean task of preparedness for its 1.3B citizens during a once in a lifetime crisis. It presents a story of courage to change the future of the country with Innovation during crisis . And therefore, it's a MUST read for engineers as well as management aspirants and startup enthusiasts and students equally.
𝑲𝑵𝑶𝑾 𝑻𝑯𝑬 𝑨𝑼𝑻𝑯𝑶𝑹𝑺: Srikant Sastri is an almunus of IIT Kanpur and IIM Calcutta; Chairman, IIM Calcutta Innovation Park & a board member at other incubators, created ChaloStartup web series & is on several government advisory bodies. He is Chairman, I3G Advisory Network.
Amitabha Bandyopadhyay is a scientist trained at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, NY & Harvard Medical School, Boston. He established his independent research group in 2006 at Biological Sciences & Bioengineering Department of IIT Kanpur. The first occupant of the Kent Chair for Innovation & Entrepreneurship & Professor-in-charge of innovation and incubation at IIT Kanpur.
𝑩𝑶𝑶𝑲 𝑹𝑬𝑽𝑰𝑬𝑾: Courage & resilience can push people to achieve unachievable & sometimes unexpected big opportunities may appear out of nowhere. Something similar happened to a startup company, in 2020 when a nationwide lockdown was imposed in India. 'The Ventilator Project' is a compelling story of medical science & entrepreneurship, how the IIT Kanpur Consortium built a world-class ventilator within 90 days amidst the Covid-19 lockdown.
With increasing number of cases when our hospitals were facing inescapable challenges, the authors formed a task force to assist a young company, Nocca Robotics, who had no prior experience of building a ventilator. This increased the building of a life saving equipment at affordable price challenging by many fold. But grit & excellent teamwork saved the day. This book is such an inspirational punch to every startup company & even to entrepreneurs.
Every chapter is written with utmost details & preciseness with so much information. The book not only talks about the success story of Noccarc V310 (ventilator) but gives possible takeaways innovators and businesses can apply to make good products great & sell them globally. With good mentoring & profound hardwork the team behind this project manged to clear the initial haze & put a benchmark in medical science.
This book opened a new world to me but to put it mildly the vast number of institutions and names led to confusion. The 'timeline' & 'cast of characters' helped a lot.
We as Indians have always underestimated our fellow Indians. When the whole world was engulfed in the battle against death (pandemic), where everyone was dying, it was only India which managed to tackle against the pandemic via it's innovative ways instead of moping around all the way. Oh, what a glory it is to be born in such a great country which gives birth to legendary millennials of all time! It makes me immensely proud just to be a part of it. The disease Covid-19 is not a war, yet it's more than a war. Not a single place is left in this world where one hasn't lost someone dear to them. It is painful & brutal at the same time. Nothing can justify the torment people are going through just to survive in this situation.
And even in this situation where resources are scarce & not enough is available to sustain the entire population synergistically, some brilliantly gifted yet motivated individuals came up with a very low cost device to help the nation facilitate breathing. A 'ventilator' that helps people with respiratory disorders due to corona virus by playing a vital role in their chances of survival. We usually see them being used in hitech highend hospitals which are beyond our reach as we're aware - they're generally way too expensive. This fact was a matter of concern for all, but this didn't stop the IITians from building a low-cost affordable ventilator which can be accessible/affordable even by the poor/middle-class people. All these were made possible in such a short period of time (just a mere quarter of a year), which is remarkable by itself. Just the thought of having such an innovation executed is unbelievable indeed.
The struggles in order to achieve this feat have been described poignantly. It's truly inspires the readers to go beyond the context & think out of the box. Writing style is good accompanied by a nice narration. The simple anecdotes accompanied by an excellent atmosphere made by the vocabulary of the book made it easy to read. A book worth reading for all, especially those who love nonfictions.
"A higher purpose - a national or global cause- creates unmatched strong beliefs. Finding high-quality, action-oriented individuals with relevant expertise, people skills, resilience and a sense of humour is the key to success." . This book is an exceptional journey of the innovation of the low cost 'Make in India' Ventilator. The year 2020 has offered a lot of unexpected emergencies and crisis due to the Covid-19 pandemic and thereby worldwide lockdown. With the knocking rise in the number of suspects and deaths, India had to tackle the challenges in no time. One such huge demand is the requirement of the basic medical facilities through diagnostics and treatment. With an aim of providing world class yet economical help with its startups, the IIT Kanpur Consortium stepped ahead to design Ventilators. The initial task is to assemble all the great talents round the country with networking and build up the blueprints with the key ideas. The book then chronologically provides us the minute details of the professionals' background and their skills, handling the challenges and loopholes, interaction with different institutes and companies to widen the network, funds and import of the individual parts, rejection and the Success. I was intended to read this book from the time I got to know about it. Written by the authors of brilliant minds and strong educational background, the book was indeed a treasure of knowledge. To develop an idea and implementing it within 90 days seem impossible. But dedication, hope and smart work can make anything possible. This has aptly proven by the resourceful members of this Project. Amalgamating biological Sciences with Engineering and Technology provided talents of vast catagories to work together healthily. Not only they shared their experiences of building the Ventilators, but also provided deeper insights of the basic necessities required at each step. The keypoints were a boon for the readers. #Recommended
Some coincidences are so miraculous. Way back in 2013 I had been selected in the IIT Kanpur sponsored summer project IIT Surge under Dr Amitabha Bandyopadhyay, due to curricular non allowance I could not join the program. Little did I know that 8 years down the line I would regret the opportunity more when I get to read his co authored book about an ingenious indigenous biomedical creation of a ventilator. . So yes this is a #bookreview of The Ventilator project written by @srikantsastri and Dr Bandopadhyay sketching in how IIT Kanpur made a totally functional ventilator during the CoVID surge of 2020 and went on to successfully market it! Also no mean feat that @panmacmillanindia Published this research turned into reality. As a researcher in Bio, I personally felt very, very close to the book and all the hardships they have faced to get on the success platforms. Each step has been so well elucidated especially with that introduction to different types of ventilation systems, easy for even lay men to understand and get through. . The chapter summaries and takeaways are perfect again for a reasercher like me because well after each experiment and hypothesis we always ask ourselves what is the take home message of the work and most importantly what utility will it bring to mankind. . Inspite of having a team of well established and well known group of stalwarts this bit of research and biomedical engineering was questioned and like everything in our country went through 'Agnipariksha' to emerge victorious. . I offer my meagre congratulations to the team here and I am so glad to have been part of this Project via this book, I think this will help me in formulating a plausible project in the future. This doesn't mean this book is for entrepreneurs or bio engineering researcher, I think every person could read this to understand the use of ventilators in the pandemic and as well as that every idea, every connection counts.
The Ventilator Project: How the IIT Kanpur Consortium Built a World-class Product during India’s Covid-19 Lockdown by Srikant Sastri & Amitabha Bandyopadhyay is about the life-saving invention of our country when the invention was difficult to execute but essential for humankind for the survival.
The book is the depiction of the struggling journey of IIT Kanpur Consortium to build the life-saving machine named ventilator. During covid-19, Hospitals were facing a dangerous shortage of life-saving equipment and staff as the number of cases increased exponentially. In response to the imminent crisis, Amitabha Bandyopadhyay and Srikant Sastri founded the IIT Kanpur Ventilator Consortium as a task force to assist a young startup, Nocca Robotics, in building affordable high-quality ventilators for India. The Ventilator Project is both inspiring and riveting, and it also provides an unrivalled model for business in the post-Covid period, based on first-hand lessons learned during the task force's incredible ninety-day run. It demonstrates that India, with its vast reservoirs of talent and creativity, has the potential to lead the world in both business and social impact.
First of all, I want to thank the author for writing this book so that the readers are aware of this legendary incident. This book is a picture of the previous year terror which we all experienced during the lockdown. Any good news was a boon for that time and this was way more than good news. I liked the concept of it.
I want everyone to read the book to know about all the process they go through to finally provide us with affordable ventilation for India.
The Ventilator Project by Srikant Sastri and Amitabha Bandyopadhyay chronicles the extraordinary journey of an Indian start ups achievement of creating indigenous, world class, and low-cost ICU ventilator in 90 days from the scratch-and all during the pandemic!
🌸 This book tells us how 20 unrelated strangers of varying ages, from different geographical locations pulled off this astonishing feat unitedly and lists the lessons they have to offer in form of a blue print at the end of each chapter so that other start ups can replicate the same.
🌸The founders were supported by IIT Kanpur and a highly motivated task force.
🌸Their extraordinariness of their story reminded me of the Aamir Khan movie 3 Idiots climax scene except this time it was real life- the challenges way more complex, and the problem solvers were non celebrities. Each achievement filled me with exhilaration and from the very first chapter I was rooting for the indie ventilator.
🌸The accessible language, the descriptive and anecdotal style, the liberal use of analogies from cricket and films make the book an easy and insightful read for a lay reader.
🌸The biggest takeaway for me- someone who is not associated with the meditech niche are the core lessons that the authors arrived at by distilling their experience of the 90 day project.
🌸The Ventilator Project highlights the spirit of innovation among Indians and is a shining example of Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-dependent India).
🌸 The authors handhold us via the three-step starter kits in the book.
🌸 This book is especially recommended for young business start-ups in India who are looking to move into the meditech sector.
With the announcement of lockdown on 24th march the country panicked. There was some sort of emergency in medical departments..But between the chaos someone had to take responsibility of medical requirements, specially the ventilators THE VENTILATOR PROJECT is all about the group from IIT Kanpur who built a special and specific model of ventilators required for COVID patients during lockdown. When i saw the book, Initially i thought that this book would contain mechanism and working of the ventilator..the book begins with types of ventilators and its function and later describes about the struggle in building up a world class product In the second half of the book, the authors speak about the managerial issues that came along..As it was period of lockdown, there were many problems that wouldn't have came during other days..With long video calls, problem with import of materials etc..The only glitch i found in the book was the often use of new names and examples every now and then The book also pushes the government to invest time and money in ATMANIRBHAR BHARAT instead of just speaking about it..It pushes students to begin startup or come up with the solution for real life problems and monetize their skills while doing so.It explains the need for collaborations to use this crucial time and to use the intelligence of youth and money of wealthy people to make India a better country to live in

“The Ventilator Project” marks the start of a new era in Indian Medical Technology world.
In the “Pre-Covid” world, SME Medtech companies would make sub-standard, jugaad products which hardly pass-of as “AatmaNirbhar”. Startup Medtech companies would make good, innovative products but would vanish for lack of market support within 2-3 years. Larger companies would mostly import Medical equipments from Europe, US and china and sell at exorbitant prices.
In the new “Post-Covid” world, the ventilator project provides a new platform or blueprint for SME Medtech companies to join hands with Startups and Academia and build world class, truly “AatmaNirbhar” products.
This book is a must read for everyone - young startups brimming with ideas, entrepreneurs involved in new product development, government agencies, academics and all those who want to have a stake in building truly AatmaNirbhar Bharat.
As a person closely involved in the manufacturing of Noccarc V310 Ventilator, I am confident that now there will be many more projects making world class, innovative products in India and this book will be their blueprint.

🌸 The book is about an inspiring initiative taken by the Indian youth. During the hard times of covid when whole of the world was fighting against the pandemic, when the big nations felt helpless due to the lack of resources , we the Indians took a major step by deciding to make our own life saving equipment. A group of highly talented and motivated engineers from IIT Kanpur came together and did something beyond imagination, an affordable high - quality ventilator meeting the parameters of the world’s best life saving device . This is a story of incredible team work , strong faith and obviously a hardcore desire to bring India on the global flat form. The idea of jotting down this spectacular experience is done flawlessly by the authors through a fast paced mention of true incidences with proper detailing and honest presentation. The book inspires to achieve the most difficult targets in the most difficult times and proves that India has the potential to be a world leader in both business and social impact . After reading you not only feel inspired and stimulated but also feel proud of being an Indian. Overall it is a must read for the people who dare to accept challenges.
“Hope is the thing with feathers that perches in the soul - and sings the tunes without the words - and never stops at all”. The line as stated above bears sheer relevance with the literary work at hand as the major connotation here is that of hope as the same acts as a bridge between uncertainties and possibilities. Delving further the storyline of the book is quite well concerned with hope in times of uncertainties as the latter was spawned in the form of a ventilator and how Nocca Robotics which was the startup which had developed in 90 days the ventilator and in addition to the same all the forms of requisite cooperation was done from the side of the institution as well the government It must be noted that the book showcases the importance of hope and innovation with the content and the context being wholly unfiltered, however one must take into account the fact that the language as used remains to be fairly technical in nature but not to such an extent that it takes away the readability of the book and with regards to all these factors it can be safely said that the book remains to be a must read for everyone .
In 2020 India came to a halt and while it affected many lives economically, innumerous others lost their lives. And thus the ugly truth of lack of infrastructure in our health sector was revealed. Our hospitals were overburdened & lack of ventilators came into light. Now that we are in the 2nd wave of the pandemic, the problem is clearer more than ever. This book is an inspiring story of two individuals Srikant Sastri & Amitabha Bandyopadhyay and their team who decided to do something about it and ultimately came out with an engineering marvel, a ventilator which will prove to be a savior for many. With a ban in place on importing essential parts, a startup named Nocca Robotics along with the experts from IIT Kanpur Ventilator Consortium were struggling to build the ventilators but as determination and innovation paved way nothing was impossible for them. Divided in 25 chapters, this book takes us through their journey and teaches us perseverance. A really different read to learn about both the scientific aspect and innovation.
THE VENTILATOR PROJECT by Srikant Sastri and Amitabha Bandyopadhyay is a non fiction book based on the project VENTILATOR that took place during lockdown .To prevent the exponential growth of Covid patients ,Government launched Covid 19 Solution Challenge which went through the portfolio companies of the IIT Kanpur incubator. Nocca Robotics, a young startup comes up with the plan to manufacture affordable and world class ventilators for the cash strapped hospitals of India. Our authors provides Nocca Robotics with a task force to assist the startup. The ventilator project is a thrilling non fiction book with a block buster plot background with immense research and knowledge. The language used is intermediate and technical scientific terms are used though explained so well that it won't be a problem for most readers. The structurization of the book is commendable .The Key Takeaways are well summarised and good for lazy readers and Starter kit are great for young entrepreneurs. All in all ,this is a very great book and a knowledge bank.
As they say, " fear never builds the future, but hope does" and “there was never a night or a problem that could defeat sunrise or hope.”
This pandemic has taught us a lot– how to cherish our relationships, how to maintain a healthy balance with social media, and how to find motivation in these tough times; but more than anything else it has taught us to never lose hope. The Ventilator Project is one such story, of how amidst a violent pandemic, a nationwide lockdown imposed in India; the drastically increasing cases and death ratios, scarcity of medical equipment, led to manufacturing of a world-class ventilator.
Cases and death rates were rising exponentially, and a trial by fire project's end result came out to be so successful. This optimistic of breakthrough is not just a fascinating story but has lessons for Silicon Valley and the world. Ours is an intellectual and youth driven nation, with flare for greater opportunities and changes.
Proven to be a rare example of leadership and entrepreneurship, the warriors Srikant Sastri & Amitabha Bandyopadhyaya from IIT Kanpur.Along with their team, consolidated the activities of the incubator. Within 90 days, the impossible was achieved.A world class ventilator with many advanced features, IoT enabled control was ready during the most difficult period.Starting from 29 March 2020, by late June, the first batch of high quality ventilator (Noccarc V310) was ready. The limitations of time, resources and infrastructure can be catapults to success and inspire people. The book highlights their well struggled journey to deliver a Healthcare masterpiece in just 3 months including the trial, testing etc. Each and every concept and circumstances are well described, delivering the readers that motivation and proud feeling for these heros. There were key takeaways, notes, starter kits and diagrams to make it more informative and educational to read.
Without denial everyone will accept how much Covid 19 has its effect in all our lives. The invasion of an unexpected virus into India, the announcement of lockdown, the pain of those who are affected, the economic downfall, the struggles faced by migrants, shopkeepers and everyone else- are not easy to forget.
This book is all about the building of a ventilator, the important equipment to tackle against the effect of virus, by highly skilled and innovative people, that too at a low budget. Though I don't read much in this genre, I liked the way it inspires minds. From beginning till the end, they have so much to motivate us through their innovative mind.
Such an attractive hardbound book cover. Without the book sleeve it looks even more prettier that every bookworm would desire to have one.
Recommended for people who love inspiring real time stories.
With the number of cases increasing exponentially, hospitals were faced with a dangerous shortage of life-saving equipment and personnel.
In response to the imminent crisis, Amitabha Bandyopadhyay and Srikant Sastri formed the IIT Kanpur Ventilator Consortium as a task force to assist a young startup, Nocca Robotics, in building affordable high-quality ventilators for India’s cash-strapped hospitals. Under the mentorship of reputed industry leaders, the task force and the Nocca team worked tirelessly against unprecedented odds – trammelled by a ban on imports and telecommuting through Zoom and Whatsapp in the face of stringent lockdown restrictions – to manufacture the Noccarc V310 in record time. This is the incredible story of its conception, creation and success, in the words of the task force co-leaders themselves.
The book traces the unification of brightest mind to build 'The ICU Ventilator - Noccarc V310'. Even during the global lockdown, discussions were held via zoom calls and whatsapp to inorder to make their dreams come true. This book is more of a motivation. They have carefully mentioned the progress with all the ups and downs. The backdrop is about the gloomy situation happening in the modern world. The way things turn out positively gives a sense of hope while reading. My fav : How the experienced mentors will save the young ones from heartbreaks and competitors. Honestly I made a mental note of this cos this is suitable even for my PhD journey. Loved the key takeaways mentioned at the end of each chapters as they give life lessons.

This book is basically based on a startup by IIT Kanpur to make as many ventilators available as they can in this time of pandemic. The project was called Nocca Project. . The book has discussed various breakthroughs during the time of manufacturing. It does give important lessons on innovation, leadership and entrepreneurship. The narration has been impressive and the language used isucid and user friendly. I loved reading the book as it was strong and way too much motivational. It gives us the destructive picture of the terrors of last year. I would definitely recommend people to give this one a try. Highly recommended.
