Mads Cole’s life was already difficult. Now it’s downright dangerous.

Raising a child alone alongside a gruelling apprenticeship is hard enough. But their city sits above the vast cavern of a confined titan reptilia: one of the gigantic, ancient creatures that once sought to eradicate mankind.

And when her employer gives her a new assignment, a pay rise, and a threat to keep her mouth shut, she finds herself part of a corporate plot to unearth the titan. A plot with potentially deadly consequences.

She’s buckling under the pressure, and needs people she can trust, but it seems that everyone has their secrets.

Can Mads untangle the lies before the fallout tears her world apart?

This was a fantastic read! I'm a big fan of this author and love the way she can totally encompass the reader into the worlds she imagines. She generally has a strong woman as one of the main characters, but Trevena has totally surpassed herself this time. Mads Cole has strength for herself and others, but mostly for her daughter. When Mads is informed of her husband's death, she keeps it quiet otherwise she and her daughter will lose everything Mads has worked so hard for.

Being a woman in an engineering apprenticeship is tough enough, but being a woman who is both intelligent and outperforming her (male) teacher is unheard of. When she's called up for a promotion with a huge (un-turndownable) pay rise, and the insistence not to talk about what she's doing, she knows she's in trouble. I'll leave it there, as I don't want to give too much away and spoil the story for you. Nothing I say will do it any justice, anyway.

There's so much more to this than at first appears. It's full of fear, hesitancy, emotion, Mads doesn't know who to trust with her troubling data, and she's struggling with her daughter, who like most children wants the latest gadgets like her relatives, and are disinterested in what happened in the past, or what their mother does all day to make her come home late and not have any time or energy for her.

This is a wonderfully atmospheric start to this series and Trevena's eloquent words will keep you riveted to the pages. If this book is anything to go by, the series will be very exciting and I, for one, will be chomping at the bit to read it as I NEED TO KNOW MORE!

I chose to voluntarily read a complimentary copy of this work, which I then honestly reviewed. All opinions are my own.

Silkwash is about a single Mother and her daughter are trying to make ends meet. She is promoted into an a higher position in here work for the Silkwash Conglomerate. There is a drug in this story that is like Crack but legal. It is addictive drug called Diamond. The story has a good plot and there are some surprises. Silkwash was a good read.

I really struggled to put this book down. Gripping, immersive and innovative. Angeline Trevena is an expert in worldbuilding and this expertise is evident in this book. Although I was sent a review copy, I waited for the Kindle version & the paperback to review this, such is my respect for this author. I am looking forward to getting the next in the series.

Great read, I loved that the main character was fairly flawed. The storyline was interesting and left me wanting to know what happens next.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
