Warning: Spoilers!
But this book isn't as intense as the last one, so...

description

It starts off with Maggie mourning at THE GRAVE. <---I'm still dying inside a little bit from that one.
description
Alright, I said not much happens, but that's not entirely true. What I meant was that my heart didn't get pulled out of my asshole this time around.
Thanks for the break, Kirkman!
Things happen.
The Group, still reeling from the previous book's events, are now gathering with the other communities to get a little payback, and hopefully take Negan completely out of the picture.
BADASS STYLE!

description

Except that's not how it went down the first time.
The Group gets hit by Negan, and they're unprepared. He takes Rick and a few others hostage in an attempt to get them to open the gate.
And then Carl...
description
That doesn't go over well.
Negan cries over Lucille for a minute, then demands that they chuck the trigger-happy kid over the wall.

description

But don't worry, guys! Andrea is in the bell tower with her sniper rifle!

description

Again. Does not go the way they rehearsed it.

description

I'm not gonna lie, I totally thought she was going to die. Like, no chance in hell is she walking away from this one.
Bzzt! Wrong!

description

What?! But don't worry, but the time this thing is over, there will be a nice little body count.

Negan just can't seem to stop making enemies, can he?

description

Oh! Michonne makes (yet another) Love Connection!
My first thought was Ewwwwww!, but it's the End of the World, so who am I to judge?

description

Unfortunately for Ezekiel, it appears that he's a bit of a crybaby, and she ain't gonna put up with no pussy shit like that!
Hit him again, girl!
description
Hmmm. What else happens...
Oh! Maggie grows a set of HUGE balls! Yeah, like they are dragging the ground when she walks now!

description

Whoo-hoo! She punches that cowardly fucker right in the face, and then basically yanks the leadership role right out from under him.
*spits*
description
And thank god she does, too! Because Rick and the Group are back in the community getting their asses handed to them by Negan and his cronies.
Oops! Wait. Back up a minute...
So, when Rick does attack Negan's compound (very cool what they do, by the way), Holly takes one for the team.
Remember Holly? <-- Andrew's Lady Love?
She wants revenge for this:

She stays behind to make sure that the plan goes off without a hitch, which puts her in enemy territory.
At first, Negan thinks she's Andrea, and starts cackling like a villainous witch.

description

Now, for some reason Holly feels the need to set him straight.

description

Annnnd now we're caught up to where Rick & Co. are getting their asses handed to them back in the suburbs. The Holly thing is important, because the Group decides to barter with Negan for her life.
Holly? Did yo do something different with your hair?
Nooooooooo!
description
And while Holly rummages around in the kitchen for a snack?

description

Grenades!

description

description

Lucky for our guys, they have Jesus on their side!
description
Maggie tucks her new found nuts into her pants, and rolls in with some much needed help, but this one ends on quite the cliffhanger.
description
Did they win? Did they lose?
I don't know! I gotta go read the next one!

I mean, what do I even say?

You got a bunch of survivors trying to stay alive among the walking dead and you got a man named Negan who is menacing but also extremely fucking annoying. Seriously, my biggest complaint here is not the story but Negan. He uses "fuck", "fucking", "shit", "motherfucker", and "Dick", IN EVERY GODDAMN SENTENCE. It got really annoying and ridiculous. One of his sentences was just bunch of these words but "cunt" just thrown in there for good measure.

As much as I enjoy this series, the writers need to wrap it up (I am also well aware that there is two more books already out). You got psychopaths who like to see people killed in inhumane ways and you got your zombies (which, by the way, do not make much of an appearance until the middle of this book). There is so much you can do and make Rick and the other regular characters endure before throwing in the towel and saying , "that is it. We have exhausted ourselves, the characters, and even the zombies. Let's call it quits before we somehow involve aliens or the world powers who will come together to form super villains."

The story is OK, the characters were OK (although some like Ezekiel and Jesus a little too on the religious side). Jesus even looks like Jesus....only white. Carl is not as annoying, but due to the incident in the last book is now sporting an emo look (which is understandable even though I found him to be extremely annoying in most books).

I will keep reading. Just like the LOST TV series, I will have to see it until the end, even if it disappoints in every way possible.

ANOTHER really excellent book in this series. It's super exciting that this one is completely beyond where the show is so everything is a surprise and I love it. The plot in this one was so fast paced and non stop that I read it in one go- I just had to know how it would end and all that! Such an addictive story. I love Negan as a villain. I love the continued development of the characters who have been there for ages. I just love this series!

Jesus with a shotgun. Still some of the best splatterpunk horror on the market today in any medium.

Seriously. Jesus is back, he's armed, and he is not to be fucked with.

From Goodreads:
Rick's treaty with Negan and the Saviors is pushed to the limit, as both sides march toward ALL OUT WAR! Collects The Walking Dead #109-120.

Holy crap! The tension in this book frayed my nerves and kept me on the edge of my seat for nearly the entire read. Excellent build and kudos for the surprises allowing me to finally bump up my continuous 3 stars for books 1-9 to a solid 4 for this one. It’s war. How stupid to be at war with each other when resources are so thin including able bodied people, but hey, Negan’s a Class A asshole, so it’s either fight or submit to his domination. Yeah, submit to him? Rick’s so not going to do that and there are others who want out from under his thumb. So war it is. It’s dirty, it’s gory and it’s diabolical. But it’s not over by the end of this book. On to Book Eleven.

The build-up to war and the first part of the war itself between Rick and Negan. Great job on making Negan the most interesting character in the series - it's almost impossible to hate him no matter how many bad things he does.

Kymmenes The Walking Dead -albumi on kenties toiminnallisin tähän mennessä.

These hardcover The Walking Dead books are so good that they are extremely hard to put down, just like with a Stephen King novel or Game of Thrones book, etc. A damned good story, Robert Kirkman can write!!

Okay, the first part is "MARCH TO WAR", basically dealing with the aftermath of Negan's reign of terror and Rick preparing to fight him ("RISE UP" in the television series), and the second half is "ALL OUT WAR: PART ONE". It's basically where the show is at right now with the three communities Alexandria, The Kingdom and The Hilltop all coming together to eliminate Negan and The Saviors.

I love it! I like to think of this as...
"BRAVEHEART WITH LOTS OF GUNS, ZOMBIES AND A PET TIGER".
It really is epic. And about damned time. In my review of book nine I was too kind in describing Negan. He's the biggest asshole of a villain I've ever read about, I've never wanted a fictional character dead this much in all the books I've read, etc. in my whole life. Fuck Negan!!!! I'm not happy with where he is presently in the comics (I still have not picked up this month's issue, part one of "NEW WORLD ORDER" yet).

The war is definitely something to behold. Like I said, it is epic. Real action packed and edge of your seat stuff. However, Kirkman does not glorify war too much. He does show you that it is ugly to an extent. I don't know if he's really saying anything about war in real life or what's going on in the world when he wrote this. Me, I wasn't thinking that until writing this, I just wanted to see Negan get his ass kicked is all.

I'll say it again, one thing that keeps me coming back to The Walking Dead is the beautiful artwork of Charlie Adlard. And of course Cliff Rathburn who does the grey tones and everyone else involved in the illustrated process does a terrific job as well.

I'm really loving this story arc. Onto The Walking Dead, Book Eleven .

Does King Ezekiel remind anyone else of George Clinton, if George Clinton had survived the zombie apocalypse, got himself a big-ass tiger on a leash named Shiva, and turned his Parliament-Funkadelic tribe into a medieval collective just waiting for the Mothership?

No? Okay...well then how about a little Maggot Brain for some background reading music?

Wow!

Jesus was my favorite character in this volume!

There is no word for Neegan’s level of psychosis.

And Shiva! Poor Shiva... 😭😭😭

Things aren’t looking good. I wonder what’s next!

Also, even though I am still loving these comics right now, I’m worried I’ll lose interest before it ends and not wanna finish. I’m nowhere near caught up and it’s still going! I guess we will see!

I think I am almost caught up to where the show is now. I liked the way these scenes are done much better in the books than the show.

Noteworthy quotes:

"They're always out there...lurking around every corner, just waiting to kill us and eat us. So what do we do? We kill each other. We're making it easier for them." -Rick

It's sad to admit, but I am addicted to the Walking Dead. I started the book and finished it in the same day. The coming war is something different, a war against fellow humans. It was interesting to see Rick's plan fall apart. He is a hero in every book, including this one, but it shows that Rick can't always be perfect. Although his group was successful with Negan's outposts, Ezekiel's was not. Many lives were lost, and as a cliffhanger, reader's don't know if Rick will survive. Readers do not know what happened to him; it could have been exhaustion or he could have been bitten. Looks like readers will have to wait another year to find out what happens to Rick. Besides that, Shiva is amazing. When I first met her in book nine, I thought it was completely outrageous, but she is the coolest and sweetest tiger ever! She is a real hero. Also, there is Maggie. She is now leader of Hilltop. She thought Gregory was a coward and decided to show the citizens what a real hero looks like. I admire her so much for that, especially with the loss of her husband, Glenn. There are many events that happened in this book to go through, but I cannot wait for the next part. The Walking Dead is a great series to read, especially is they continue on. Book ten is crazy, with a lot of blood, action, and murder. Negan is really messed-up in the head even though he is logical. He comes up with a plan to attack Rick's community, which really works. He turned Holly into a zombie and made everyone think she was safe. To everyone's horror, she is a zombie, which created a big diversion for Negan to bomb the community. An ingenious plan on his part. Walking Dead rocks, and book eleven is going to be even better than this one.

The best storyline (well ... partial storyline--this doesn't really stand alone) in the series so far, in my opinion. Kirkman hit the jackpot when he came up with Negan, by far the most interesting villain so far, and not just because of his hilariously foul mouth. Though clearly evil, he is depicted with a surprising degree of complexity; one can see merit in some of his actions, sheer craziness in others. His interest in Carl is especially intriguing. The story pops along well, with tight plotting and lots of action--the rather dilatory, meandering elements of some of the earlier volumes are gone. If anything, some things happen too fast, with insufficient connection between events and decisions. I know I read the preivous volume but at first wondered what I had missed when I started this one, as things seemed to have developed between volumes. As I recall, we had barely met Ezekiel last volume, yet here he is, already signing up to go to war against Negan. Maybe in one-chapter installments with a month between them, these jumps are less notable, but in the collected volumes, things sometimes seem rushed. Nevertheless, a very entertaining read, as long as one likes a lot of violence and cursing in one's entertainment.

Okay, first of all, HOLY BALLS, the level of badassery that occurs in this installment is so freaking awesome. Rick and his crew, along with people from two other settlements/encampments band together to take on Negan and his "Saviors". The tension that was ratcheted throughout Book 9 finally reaches it's boiling point and the climax of the battle vs. Negan does not disappoint.

While Negan can be a complete Neanderthal, he's not just some dumb meathead. The man has contingency plans for everything and he seems to be two steps ahead of Rick. But, Negan severely underestimates those he has already subdued. While his underestimation costs him dearly, it also comes at a price for Rick and everyone else.

Everything in this installment is wholly satisfying until the end, which feels like and abrupt end with no real resolution.

This volume holds issues 109 to 120 of this series and finds our survivors and the new found friendly communities waging war against Negan and the Saviors with predictably chaotic and carnage filled results. Losses are felt on both sides which sends the leaders' remaining sanity and humanity into freefall as the gritty reality of fighting for life comes into stark focus. Again this volume leaves the story on a knife edge with no clear winner and blood lust and thoughts of revenge dominating everyone. And of course the undead make their presence known as they become a key part of the wars raging around them. Once again the story is well supported by the illustrations bringing the physical and emotional battles to life in all their gore-filled glory.

Ahhhhhh!!! I waited forever for this installment and it still left me hanging!! Why must you do this to me Robert Kirkman!! I was all ready for the epic war between Negan and Rick, and I wrongly assumed it would all be settled in this volume, but no! Neither can seem to get the upper hand on the other! This collection is filled attacks and counter attacks and (SPOILER!) the death of the only animal we've been introduced to, Shiva. Still bitter about that. They finally get a cool, viscous pet and BAM the damn zombies take him down.

Another great installment, I literally cannot wait for the next one. I am so impatient!

Negan continues to prove he's a force to be reckoned with in this volume, and there's a lot of intense action. This one is a real page turner, and there are a lot of sad losses, even of some newcomers who we quickly grow to like. I like the addition of the different groups, and I'll like seeing how their relationships develop with The Hilltop and the Kingdom as the story progresses. If they can get rid of Negan, I have a feeling they could actually have a relationship with those left of The Saviors, as well. This one ends with quite the cliffhanger, and I really enjoyed this volume a lot.

As always a intense and fast paced read. Blew through the whole book in one sitting and was left REALLY wishing it was a year later already so I could read the next one.

The only bad thing in this volume is that it leaves you wanting so much more. For a years worth of comics not a whole lot progressed story wise. I mean, a ton of shit happened, but by the end they were kind of in a similar place as they were at the end of the last story. Just maybe in a less hopeful place?

Getting ready for the new season of WD by catching up on the comics. I love this format where several are combined into hardback form. I also love the artwork in the back of the book. The walkers are not the threat so much as the survivor groups are to each other, communities of the 'living' fighting one another. War is on! Just when you think you have seen the ultimate in depravity another psycho surfaces.

Two words.

Holy Fu(k!n Sh*t!

ok, that was three, ...

I actually had a nightmare last night in which I was in this world, with Rick Grimes, that is how real this world has become after being engrossed in this epic tale!
And that Negan character was so super frickin scary, that I was glad when I woke up!

So today I had to finish the book, and now I just have to patiently wait for the next one!

Amazing!

Being a huge fan of the show, I wanted to see how the original writing started and how the show writers followed and deviated from the comics. My dislikes were that the comics are much more crude, crass, and unnecessarily violent. I did like the change in relationships and how people worked together differently, and the comics have a different creepiness feel than you get watching it on TV. Overall, I prefer the show, and probably will not finish out the comic book series.
