“[ Escape the Rooms ] is richly imagined and deeply heartfelt, and Anita Mangan’s cartoonish and poignant illustrations capture the tone perfectly … It reminded me a little of The Wizard of Oz, with the children on a quest through different lands to get home.” Hadley Freeman, Guardian “It’s been described as a cross between Alice in Wonderland and The Crystal Maze and it manages to feel both classic and modern at the same time.” Good Housekeeping "A beautiful and exciting adventure that ignites the imagination" Edith Bowman "A brilliant, clever, kind of genius book" Graham Norton, Virgin Radio The last thing Jack expected when he bungee-jumped at the fairground was to go plummeting right through the ground into the weird, wonderful Rooms... There he must face a series of puzzles and traps alongside a mysterious girl called Cally, in order for them to find their way home. Throw in a murderous polar bear, hundreds of tiny yet ferocious lions, some mind-blowing riddles, and get ready for a hilarious, helter-skelter adventure like no other!
This is a fantasy adventure that reminded me of Alice and her adventures in Wonderland. Using ‘Escape rooms’ as the premise, this book follows Jack and Cally as they navigate strange rooms in order to find their way home.
I didnt really like this book, at first i found it boring and the illustrations terrified me, however then it got better as the story progressed, i found it confusing making me read it multiple times. i think the plot is actually amazing but this book is very random throwing the most random things at you in the worst time aswell. When they reached the room with dwaine that was disgusting..overall i would give it a 3/5 (also its a very quick book since it has pretty big letters) if you like puzzles (which i do) you should read this

Cally and Jack both find themselves in a maze of underground escape rooms. They have to build their friendship and stick together to help them solve the clues to get the key and move on. They have both lost someone they love recently and by working together they are able to express how they are feeling and help them come to terms with their grief. A lovely story of friendship suitable for year 4+
