Sahara Aldridge, a young Egyptologist in 1922, is making a name for herself on the digsite soon to become Egypt’s most sensational discovery—the tomb of the boy-king, Tutankhamun.
Despite opposition from a mostly-male profession, Sahara fights to continue the legacy of her Egyptologist parents, who died tragically at sea when she was a teen.
But then a childhood friend finds a lost journal written by Sahara’s mother, hinting at the bizarre possibility of time-travel, and a crazy suspicion forces Sahara to confront a freak incident years earlier…
Is it possible her parents were time travelers?
And has she inherited this mind-blowing ability?
When the American journalist Jack Moretti begins asking too many questions, Sahara suspects he knows more than he’s telling.
Did her parents truly perish in an accident? Or did someone target and murder them because of their time traveling gift?
There’s only one way to unearth the truth.
Sahara must travel back in time, to the days of King Tut.
But the biggest surprise is yet to come… the truth about her parents, and about her own destiny, discovered in the whispers of conspiracy around the death of Egypt’s most famous Pharaoh.

A Time To Seek is the first of the 'Time Travel Journals of Sahara Aldridge' series. I was gifted this copy by the author.
I enjoyed the multi-layered characters. Sahara, an Egyptologist in 1922, stands tall despite backlash from a mostly male profession. I liked seeing a courageous woman, who despite experiencing loss early in life, dared to dream and make it a reality. Jack Moretti, the Philidelphia reporter, was a great addition to the story and balanced the history with mystery.
I appreciated the rich, historical setting and the author’s ability to place me in the action. 👍 I’ve visited the Winter Palace Hotel and Higley took me right back to standing on the stairs in the same spot where Lord Carnarvon made his famous announcement and enjoying a cool beverage in the luxurious gardens where the Egyptologists would have sought solace from the heat, too. 👍 I’ve visited the Valley of the Kings and toured the pyramids and Higley pointed out all the things that amazed me …the smell and the bright twinkling ceiling. If you get a chance, the author has documented (on her website) her research trip to Egypt and her photos are wonderful.
I liked the engrossing adventure that resulted when a diary was found, leading to the time-traveling experience and the exploration of what could have happened to Sahara’s parents.
Higley transported me to Ancient Egypt and had me considering if some secrets are best left buried.
I’ve concluded that despite loving books set in Ancient Egypt and calling Egypt my #1 travel destination, I’m not ready to read more time travel books at the moment. I am still going to investigate this author's back list for non-time travel books.
A young woman Egyptologist in 1922 is helping to find King Tut's tomb. She discovers that her parents knew how to time travel. She does some time travelling herself, to ancient Egypt.
Not bad. A common premise, but I found the history to be very accurate.
I have read Tracy’s memorable and moving books in the past. I was thrilled to read another by this talented writer. I was excited to see there was a time travel element to it. The authors love of everything Egyptian shines through with her vivid descriptions of the incredible food, the desert with its textures, sounds, and aroma! It is a great way to learn about history.
I was a little lost in the beginning while the author sets up the story, introduces main character Sahara and shows how she learns about the time travel mechanisms and uncovers its rules. The real-life historical events serve as a wonderful backdrop to this first book in what will be a fun adventure to uncover the mystery of her missing parents and this handsome young reporter that she suspects is not all he seems to be.
This story gets readers ready for the next book in the trilogy. This is not your typical time travel story. It has lots of twists and turns that create a page turner. It is a refreshing read. One that would work well for your book club or just for fun!

Time travel books can be really hit or miss for me. I was excited to try this book because I really enjoyed another time travel book of the author’s, Fallen From Babel. I would have to reread that book to see which I like better. I’m leaning toward A Time to Seek since it is a series.
A Time to Seek was a great read. I love the historical fiction aspect of it as well, getting to travel back in time and see Egypt especially. While it was interesting throughout and did end on a bit of a cliffhanger, this isn’t the negative for me that it usually is. I will definitely be reading books number 2 and 3 when they come out. Normally, I advise people not to start a series before it’s completed, but in this case, I think reading book one is totally okay even though book two hasn’t yet come out. This cliff hanger won’t keep my up at night at least. Lol
With the references to Downton Abbey and Highclere Castle, Lord Carnarvon and Howard Carter, this time travel novel starting at a dig in 1922 Egypt was a phenomenal read. I have always been interested in archeology and this book had me traveling back in time, myself! It was like I was right there with Saharah Aldridge just before the discovery of the tomb of King Tut. The time travel was very believable. Saharah does not know what powers she has and goes on a few adventures. The back story about her parents was fascinating. It was cleverly written and unfolded in a way that kept my interest. I am looking forward to the rest of the adventures that Saharah and Jack, the photographer go on in subsequent books. *I purchased this ebook from Amazon. All opinions are my own.*
This book is recommended for those interested in Egyptology and archeology (such as myself). The main fictional characters are well defined and interesing while the historical personalities are more than just avatars dragged from the pages of a history book. There is also plenty of action and a vivid recreation of life in the past.
However although I enjoyed this book it dropped a star because it feels like an introduction to the series. Some first books in a series leave you with an extremely annoying cliff-hanger, this book did not but there were so many loose ends and half-told background stories. And the narrative plot, while excitingly told, feels like it is missing a conclusion.
3.75 stars for the book itself (rounded down to 3 stars for the reasons given above.)
I was given a copy of this e-book by the author in exchange for an honest review.
Archeology and time travel - it’s a great combination. This was a delightful read. I enjoyed descriptions of 1920s Egyptian archeology as well as life in ancient Egypt.
In addition to enjoy the setting, the characters were well written and believable. I’m excited to read the next book.
I'd actually like to rate this as a 4.5 Stars. The storyline is well-paced and multi-dimensional. The title says it is a journal but it doesn't read like that. The story begins with Sahara Aldridge in 1922. She is an archeologist who specializes in ancient Egyptian studies and is working on a digsite where they hope will uncover King Tut's temple. During the excavation she discovers she can time travel back to that era. The research the author did to describe that time period puts you right there.
While in the ancient past, Sahara discovers someone else from the site can time travel as well. However, that individual's past and motive is a bit murky. Add to the mix, a side story of her parents, who she thought had drowned in a boating accident years ago, and you'll find there's a lot going on in this book. Like an archeological dig where there's more below the surface, the author flits on a few things that will be revealed as the series continues.
Why I didn't rate it a 5 Star is the fact that there were many threads left dangling at the end of the book. I would have liked to see more of a wrap on the storyline for at least a few. Instead the end is a lure to you buying the next book in the series to get those questions answered.
Sarah Aldridge is a fictious archeologist in 1922 who belongs to a category of people who can time travel to the past when they touch a physical object from an earlier time-period.
The heroine touches the door to the newly excavated door to Tutanchamens tomb and goes back in time.
A Time to Seek is book 1 of The Time Travel Journals of Sahara Aldridge. Set in 1922 in the Valley of the Kings, Egypt, Sahara an Egyptologist is at a dig site discovering an entrance to a tomb.
The author has created an exciting storyline with the time-slip story surrounding the mystery and history of Egypt. I loved her descriptions of everyday Egypt bustling with celebrations, tyranny, and uncertainty of the time. The characters are interesting, courageous, and determined. Time travel became a wonderful escape to another time as I turned the pages. Lots of twists and turns steeped with danger and adventure. I can't wait to read the next one. Highly recommended.
Tracy has once again with her vivid descriptions, trust me into a world you can taste, feel, see, hear, and inhale! I was completely captivated! I have seen the treasures of Tutankhamen twice now: in 1976 in Washington and in Dallas in 2009. "A Time to Seek" brought back all the power and awe of the time of the Pharaohs with a twist of time traveling and possibly romance. I'm awaiting the next book!
Another good book by Tracy Higley. I read A Time to Seek as part of her Launch Team and couldn't put it down. I love ancient Egypt and her descriptions made me feel like I was there. I liked the main character, Sahara, and wanted to know what happened next -- all the way to the end. The time travel was unique in that it showed the Egyptian temples as they looked in ancient times. I am a big fan of Tracy Higley and have many of her books. I can't wait to read the next one: A Time to Weep.
This was a fascinating book. I loved when Sahara would travel back in time. That was so fun! This is only my second book about time travel, but it definitely won’t be my last. I really liked Sahara Aldridge, and I thought it was so cool how she was an archaeologist. I have mixed feelings about Jack. I like him,but there’s just something about him that I’m not too sure about. Im excited to read the next book in the series.
I enjoyed this a lot. I've always been interested in Archaeology so especially enjoy books that include it. I'm not sure whether this series will wind up being a real Christian series or not. I can see where this book could be setting the stage for that. I guess I'll have to wait and see if it's developed in the next book.
I love time travel novels and even more so I love anything to do with Egypt, so this book was something I knew I had to read and I was not disappointed. Ms. Higley must love Egypt as much as I do because she brought the country to life for us her readers, I felt like I was walking once again in the desert, seeing the tombs of the kings, meeting the people so different in culture, and eating their tasty food. This is the story of Sahara, a young orphaned woman, who like her parents became an archaeologist at a time when women were not so esteemed or tolerated in such a field. This story turns amazing when she discovers that her parents had been time travellers and that she might have inherited their abilities. Whilst on a dig in Egypt, she decides she would travel back in time to discover the truth about her parents deaths, and maybe be lucky enough to cross paths with them in the Egypt of the past, the time of the pharaohs and the tombs she was presently excavating being just newly built. However Jack Moretti, appeared on the scene, an American, who she was immediately attracted to, but who she however knew was being deceitful with her, therefore not knowing if he was friend or foe. He too was a traveller and he hounded her footsteps into the past turning this story into one embroiled in mystery. I found this book to be so captivating I almost read it in one sitting, finding myself unable to put it down, and I would dearly love to go on reading into this mystery adventure story through the ages of the Egyptian Pharaohs whereby an archaeologist seeks her own destiny in the past.
W O W. I was so into this book I just couldn't put it down. Didn't even hear my family calling me. I wanted to be left alone until I finished this thing!
I have never been interested in Egyptology or Egyptian history but this book has changed me. I loved the history, the people, talk of the tombs of the Pharaohs, etc...And I get so excited reading a book that takes me off on different rabbit trails of learning. I've had to stop reading to go look history, names, photos, etc.. up.
Sahara and Jack were great characters to admire and root for, and some of it even took place at Highclere Castle at the same time Downton Abby did too! I didn't know this was a series but as I have JUST a minute ago finished this book, I have already downloaded the next one and have started following this author.
I need to know more of Sahara and Jack's future (!), to see if Sahara can somehow find her parents and sister back in time, and what will become of the evil aunt of Jack? I absolutely love when a book can take me out of this present world into another more exciting world. Thank you author Tracy Higley!!
Tracy Higley offered me a link to an ebook version of the first volume in her Time Travel Journals series, and now I have to track down Sahara Aldridge’s next two volumes to see how Sahara completes her quest to find her parents, who disappeared on a trip to Venice when Sahara was only fifteen. Highley explores an intriguing premise in her Time Travel Journals series. In Time to Seek, she introduces readers to Sahara Aldridge, who was orphaned as a teen when her parents drown during a trip to Venice. Or so Sahara had thought! Sahara grows up under the aegis of Lord Carnarvon, the financial backer of Howard Carter’s expedition that uncovered King Tut’s tomb, who convinces Carter to allow Sahara to join the search. While in Egypt, Sahara discovers she can travel backwards through time. When she meets Jack Moretti, a photographer who has been sent by his Aunt Giada to locate Sahara, she learns that her parents were also time travelers. So Sahara hatches a plan to travel back in time to catch up with her parents and warn them to avoid the boat that sank. Meanwhile, the parents have apparently been hiding for the missing 11 years in Hatshepset’s Temple in 1458 BC with Sahara’s sister Persia that she did not know about. The parents have a plan to leave a message for Sahara in Tut’s tomb that is discovered as the story ends. Readers will have to pick up the next volume to learn the plan and see where the story goes from here.
The time travel journals of Sahara Aldridge is book 1 of a 3 book series what takes you back in time, literally. Sahara Aldridge is an Egyptologist who is making a name for herself on a digsite which will soon be on of the most amazing discoveries in history, the tomb of Tutankhamun. Sahara is fighting to keep the legacy of her parents alive profession that is overrun by men but everything changes when her friend finds a journal written by Sahara’s mother. Sahara’s mother hinted about time travel and wonders if this is why she’s had strange occurences. Did her parent’s really die in an accident or are they stuck in a time that they traveled to? Sahara embarks on a journey to find out the truth and feels that there are some that know more than they are willing to share. I am such a huge history buff so this one pulled me in instantly and I devoured it in one sitting. I loved the different references to historical happenings and I loved even more that the main character was a woman because so many history discroveries were made by men.
Although I've never been all that interested in Egyptological, aside from a great interest in the Amelia Peabody series which I read many years ago, this was a good read. I like how you fit Sahara into the world of Howard Carter and Lord Carnarvon (the nickname given him by his daughter was cute!), although I felt very sad that she had been abandoned by her parents when she was only 15. And how unaware she was about her 'abilities' but how glad to see how she quickly realized there was something she could do to maybe reach her parents again. I was glad to read that her parents made that decision to leave the note in Tutankhamen's tomb (how interesting that you were able to tie the years together that way, so that Sahara would have some idea of where/when her parents were). The descriptions of the tombs, the dig in the Valley of the Kings and the story kept me reading. I may have to seek out the next book just to find out what happens.
A Time to Seek (The Time Travel Journals of Sahara Aldridge Book 1) by Tracy Higley Story starts with Sahara and she's an archeologist and loves her job, especially in Egypt. She has been at the forefront of digs many times. She gets a note that peeks her interest and she knows some things from living with her parents when they were alive. She is able to figure out how to do time travel and learns that her parents had also been at the palace but had just left and there is a daughter, not her though. She has many clues to decipher. What I like best about his book: travel at present and past locations, mysteries, magical and believable. With Help from Jack she is able to understand more about time travel. Everything is so descriptive story will make you think you are there also. Like the discoveries she is able to make and at the end the list of other books in the series are also listed. Can't wait to read more.
I love time travel books. This one also took me back to our own time on an archaeological excavation and all sorts of questions about the road not taken and where we would be today if we had. On top of that, part of the story takes place at Highclere Castle where we used to go for picnics on the grounds when we lived nearby. So I had lots of reasons to enjoy this book. I was not disappointed. I'm not sure I trust Jack, the romantic interest, but we will see in the coming volumes. Besides the adventure and political intrigue of the days following the death of Pharaoh Tut-ankh-amon, we have the mystery of why Sahara's parents abandoned her, how they fell out of favor with the society of time travelers they were part of, and the question of whether or not the family can be reunited in time. Looking forward to the next installment.
BOOK:A TIME TO SEEK -THE TIME TRAVEL JOURNALS OF SAHARA ALDRIDGE JOURNAL ONE BY TRACY HIGLEY.
It is a fiction narrated by the character Miss Sahara Aldridge on her experience touring the Philadelphia England and Egypt. It is an inquiry into history;research into the dead and world of "mummy's";the history of the resting place and probe into the discovery of previously dead and thought dead;places and natural site places linked to humans;amongst others. It is a book of healing by going back into history through travel to time past on site seeing journeys and excarvation search of tombs along the Nile on archaeological work of excarvation ,uncovering treasures. It looks at climbing vulnerable and exposed eve and Sahara's attempt to help digging like a man in a more or less male world. Most of the events are set in England and Egypt.
This is my first book by this author and my first time travel novel. It was set in historical Egypt, which I can never get enough of, and the author is Christian so I knew it would be clean. I liked the main character Sahara and all the interesting situations she found herself in. Since it's time traveling which I don't know anything about and apparently neither did the main character, we both learned along the way which was fascinating. I really had no idea what was gonna happen or if she'd be able to return to her own time. I genuinely enjoyed this story and have already ordered the remaining two in the series to discover the continuing story. I will definitely be reading more by this author.
This is the first book in the Time travel journals of Sahara Aldridge trilogy. Set in 1922 and ancient Egypt this is a tale of trust and abandonment enveloped in desert skies and mystery. Sahara Aldridge is an Egyptologist. An unusual profession for a woman in 1922. Her deceased parents were archeologists and she grew up surrounded by artifacts from and texts referring to Ancient Egypt. Quite by accident she discovers that she can travel through time. Then on the dig to find the tomb of Tutankhamun she meets the handsome photographer Jack Moretti. This is the first Tracy Higley book that I have read, but I like her descriptive writing style and loved the story so I shall definitely finish the trilogy.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I thought combining history, archaeology, and a little mystery would produce a fun, cozy read. That's only a little true. This first installment of The Time Travel Journals of Sahara Aldridge was so much more. The mysteries were more intriguing and surprising than I anticipated. I also loved the references to Highclere Castle, of Downton Abbey fame. The end of book one was satisfying while still holding enough mystery to draw me on further in the series. I will definitely be reading more by author Tracy Higley.
Synopsis: “Her Future Destiny is Hidden in the Ancient Past. Sahara Aldridge, a brilliant young Egyptologist in 1922, is on the brink of discovering Egypt's most significant archaeological discovery—the tomb of Tutankhamun.
Sahara's parents left her when she was 15 and it was said that they died in a ship wreck. She had an awesome childhood and relationship with her parents. Her father and her developed a hieroglyphic language just for the two of them.
She is pretty much raised in a rich families household (and that also funds the digging in Egypt) and we see her as a young 20-year-old digging in Egypt and trying to find lost treasure and civilizations.
This book tells of Sahara finding clues to her past, her parents past (or is it the present?), meeting a man who is not just a news reporter, traveling in the past (pretty cool) and the rules (for and with) the traveling that one shouldn't break?
I love a good time-travel book and this series did not disappoint. It was set in the time of Egyptian excavation and tomb discovery, which was a first for me. There were also some pops back in time to the early Roman times with a lot of historical characters. I've never read a historical book from those eras, so I enjoyed the new knowledge I gained. I thought the first book in this series was a little clunky and I didn't really like the author's use of so many weird time-travel 'rules,' as I felt like keeping up with all of them distracted from the story. But by the second book in the series, I was thoroughly enthralled.
*This review is for all three books in the series.
I've always enjoyed a good time travel story and this one certainly doesn't disappoint. One thing that I found interesting in this one was that the author has actually given some thought to things that I hadn't previously ever considered, like, what happens when a child is born in a time earlier than the mother's "normal" time period. I won't tell you what the answer is but I will say that there is sound logic to what she has come up with. This is the first book in a trilogy that I will definitely continue on to see what other adventures await the protagonist. Tracy Higley may have just written her way on to my list of favorite authors. Time, and time travel, will tell.
