Vice'd

Rate this book
Gold digger. Seductress. Con artist. These are the allegations my father made about her that had me storming into the Vice and Vow tattoo shop to rescue my half brother.

The only thing he got right was the seductress part. From the instant Vice Pascal rose to her feet, I was irrevocably seduced by the frigid challenge in her eyes.

I can fix things though. That’s what I do. I’ll punish my dad, rebuild my brother’s trust and convince her family that I’m not a monster. Then I’ll seduce my seductress and win the heart of my little artist. Because the only rescue necessary here is the heart I’ll never recover if she denies me.

This book is the first in the new series, Vices and Vows.

This was an okay book and I liked the premise but the pace of it threw me off. Everything moved very fast and it got to the point that it felt like we were being told what was happening but not actually seeing any of it play out. Almost like the entire story was rushed and things were being skipped to get to the end faster. Especially with the dialogue in the beginning, we were told what was being said instead of getting to read any of the conversation playing out.
"The final straw is when Zander mentions that staying at my place makes it easy to get to work at the shop and Miller straight up tells him he doesn't need to keep working. That he ought to be preparing his college applications and planning which schools to visit that fall"
Scenes like this were happening with little to no dialogue in between so again if was more like we were being told instead of shown. And then the I Love You's came super fast and made it even harder to connect with these characters.

Overall, I think this book had a lot of potential and I know a lot of readers will love it. For me I needed some more fleshing out of the story but for a short book I can still say it was interesting.

My first story by this author and I enjoyed it. Great writing.

I really liked Miller. He totally screwed up and he owned it. He made mistakes and he apologized. I loved that he wasn’t a manwhore and had been celibate for years. He had values that stemmed from the behavior of his father towards his mother. I also thought it was great how accepting he was of his brother’s declaration and made life changing decisions to be there for him. Great hero.

While I somewhat warmed up to Vice towards the end, she was just ok for me. Described as a pocket-sized pixie with rocket-size personality, she had that “don’t f with the bad ass tattoo artist vibe”. She pushed the hero away most of the book. That’s not MY jam but some love that alpha-like heroine 🤷🏻‍♀️

-no cheating
-no ow/om drama
-no virgins (hero had been celibate for years/no info on heroine)
-no violence of any nature
-instalove for the hero
-epilogue was 2 months, then 7 years later I prefer marriage AND babies

So much sass in a tiny package!

This book was 🔥🔥🔥

I absolutely loved that Vice was a strong, stubborn, independent pint-sized woman. Those are my favorite kind of FMC. They don't need a man but they want a partner/what to have support.

It was so much fun watching Miller grovel and charge his tune when it came to the assumptions he'd made.

Sure they seemed like an opposites attract kind of couple, but turns put they really weren't.

I cannot wait for the rest of the series...especially Zander's story! That guy deserves a fantastic HEA.

Holy moley

Ok first off Vice is one of the baddest heroines I've read. Honestly the best part about this book is that it shows how a strong independent woman can be submissive to her man in bed and still be an equal partner in life. Such a well written character and story. I loved every minute of it.

It was a good story

This was a really good story. It had some really good heat and Miller was perfect! I didn't really like Vice/Victoria... she seemed really jaded and bitter without reason. She didn't have much respect for any male outside of family, and yet that was her own fault. Repeatedly she she plays with guys, uses them knowing she's gonna toss them. I don't particularly like reading manwhore stories and the opposite is also true. Miller based on things that hurt him in life made the conscious decision to not mess around, have ons, or booty call situations. He specifically did not want his actions to hurt his future wife by having a bunch of exes out there that she'd have to run into... his reasoning was valid and proved he cared about more than instant gratification. Vice is not the same, which is fine, her choice... but the 2 don't belong together. It's not a good balance. His reasons for his life choices are gonna be what he now has to deal with moving to her town. Sounds like he'll be running into innumerable guys from her past. Doesn't seem fair. But like I said, it is a good story and it's not that I don't like Vice at all.., I just didn't like Vice for Miller. I started liking them together a bit more and then the epilogue.. now I think she's a bit selfish too. I'll still read more from Layne.

Oh, the heat is HOT, and the physical chemistry is captivating so be careful you may just get burned all the heat coming off these pages. There were some "oh no" "oh wow" " what the what" moments and add in uncanny mishaps, and shenanigans the good kind that makes you keep turning the pages till last page has been turned. Vice is the owner of a successful tattoo shop and a great tattoo artist her calendar is book six months out the girl is just that good. Z is best friends with her younger brother so that makes him her brother as well someone from Z’s school outed him for being gay. However, that lead to his father beating him and putting him out due to his sexual choices. Now, Miller is sexy as all get out also, he is Z older brother and really doesn’t know what happened between the younger brother and the father; his just takes his father’s word and goes to the rescue. Miller is hothead acts before thinking and that hotheadedness may have just cost him a relationship with his brother and Vice. See the attraction/chemistry between these two is instant and intense the magnetic pull can’t be ignored but will she forgive and forget, or will she walk away?

I clicked on this book after finishing another, was one of those recommendations of what others brought!

Well I'm very new to this author and although it is a short quick read. I was shocked at how quickly things escalated, I had to remove and clean my glasses no less than 3 times three times! And pop on a fan, fortunetly I was reading on my kindle and no one could tell just exactly what was going on before my very eyes.

If you have a heart condition, or blood pressure issues DO NOT READ THIS BOOK!

Obviously I feel it my civic duty to read the next book in this series for those unfortunate souls who do have heart and blood pressure issues. So yes quite a stumble in to this author and book by accident do I have aanny regrets? 🤭🔥

I received an ARC from the author thru Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving my review. Vice, or Victoria to Miller, is a successful tattoo artist and shop owner. Z is the best friend of her little brother and he is like a brother to her also. Someone from school outed Z to his father for being gay. This resulted in the horrible man hurting and kicking his son to the curb. Miller is his half brother and knows nothing of what happened because he has been out of the country. A phone call, panic and running away with his mouth may have just cost Miller his brother and the woman of his dreams. Vice is angry. She will not let him get away with any of it but finds herself drawn to him anyway. The short story has a lot packed into it. The first part is all about family but once the more steamy part begins, it pretty much stays there.

Great book! Shorter story, but tons of heat and chemistry. First book in a series, so as is, is a stand alone HEA. Miller comes in as the over protective brother trying to right so perceived wrongs. Vice is the sassy tattoo artist who did all the right things but was painted as the bad guy. These two are able to work out the errors, and some ahem, pent up need to get everyone on the same page. Great characters, great story and lots of heat! This alpha does turn into a DOM and takes on the daddy role. Can't wait for the next book! Hopefully Z gets his own story!

***** Intense
4.5
The romance is simple, but very intense between Vice (Victoria), and Miller. Their opposition is linked to a lie from a third party and this creates a volcanic encounter (in the wrong way), before Miller turns toppling in the opposite direction when he realizes he has been manipulated.
The story is very intense from the start, well written and very hot.

Quick read, strong female, and steaminess

Steamy scenes are a 10/10 and NSFW reading 🥵.
I love that Vice is an Alpha female but doesn’t go starting fights just to start fights. She’s strong yet graceful.
Vice is a damsel, she has moments of distress, but she is not a damsel in distress.
This is a quickish read, well written, and has specific parts I wish I could memorize and use in real life as smart-comebacks.

“I have no idea if she’s currently involved with anyone. If she is, that shit is done. I’ll be her man from today forward. Just as soon as I convince her that she doesn’t hate me and I’m not an absolute bastard.”

Great read! I’m not sure if I’ve ever read Layne Daniels before but I love her style. Not only is it well written, but her style is just so effortlessly humorous. It was so enjoyable. It was romantic while still being spicy and kinky. It was a perfect balance. I highly recommend this series.

If you love smart, strong female characters, Vice is phenomenal. She has a successful tattoo business and when problems arise, she doesn't need a man to bail her out. Miller is the billionaire, who rushes in to save the day and ends up getting in his own way. When he first meets Vice, he has already jumped to conclusions and almost ruins the best thing that has ever happened to him. It's instalove on his part and Vice makes him work for it. She even knows what she wants in the bedroom and is a refreshing change.

Miller storms into Victoria”s “Vice” tattoo shop ready to save his brother, Zander by confronting a gold digging seductress, instead he finds a beautiful tattooed woman who is ready to defend and protect his brother. Vice’s family has always had Zander’s back, Miller is his half brother and lives across he state so they don’t see each other often. When Miller realizes he made a mistake in listening to his no good father he apologizes to Vice. Their chemistry is crazy hot but she’s worried that when they breakup it will cause problems for everyone. But Miller knows she’s his one, his soul mate and he’s going to be her white knight. Vice doesn’t need a white Knight, she is fully capable of slaying her own dragons. It takes him a bit but he figures it out and is happy to be there for her and support her. Their sexy times are real steamy, a tiny bit of Daddy kink and submission. Epilogue two months later with the Vice and Vows crew moved into their new building and Miller proposing and seven years later with them happily married and babysitting all their nieces and nephews. They are waiting to have kids.
I loved how strong Vice was, she was a bad ass without being a shrew and I liked that she had a happy sex life before Miller, she owned her sexuality.

I will start my review with a bit of a disclaimer: I don’t tend to enjoy first-person any-tense writing so I tend to not pick up books that are written in this way. Secondly, I’m indifferent to smut, most of the time I end up skipping past it (which some might argue, “what is the point”). All that being said, however, I’m going to be critiquing objectively without my personal bias.

With all that in mind, “Vice’d”, for me, gets five stars.

Each character had their own distinct voice. Casual, playful, sassy. I found myself utterly enamored with Vice — I loved her smart mouth, and her ‘boss bitch’ attitude. What I liked even more was the moral of the story that: yes, someone can be a sub in the bedroom and still be a boss-ass-bitch.

I’m usually not the biggest fan of Alpha male characters, but Miller was written in a way I found oddly endearing. It was, if anything, a healthier look on a Dom/Sub relationship, which, for reasons I won’t get into, I feel like needs to be explored a great deal more.

My grievances with the book primarily with my personal preferences. I don’t have anything to criticize structurally, or content-wise. It’s a book I can easily see myself recommending to my friends. I’m really looking forward to reading the rest of this series!

At first I was like…no this book couldn’t be my type.

Because ya know sounds a bit cliched and I’m so new to this author. Plus the many many arcs floating my way.

But like the last author, this one proved me wrong too.

And I ended up loving the story so damn much. The characters, the romance, the steam, the intricate plot twists, the plot and the side characters with a glass of Chardonnay - kidding just me - I loved loved it all.

So despite me having initial hesitation, I so ended up rooting for the MCs and the entire situation so damn much.

Gosh now that’s how you bring me to a good…yeah that.

But can’t wait for this author’s next book.

A Sassy & steamy short

I enjoyed this short sassy and steamy story of Vice and Miller. Vice is a short and sassy tattoo artist. Miller comes barging into Vice’s shop mistakenly thinking by his father that his younger brother is being conned and seduced by Vice. Vice is strong and sassy that she puts Miller in his place. Miller loves that Vice has no qualms about defending his brother (who is also Vice’s brother’s best friend) like he is her own brother. There is an instant connection between the two. There are some serious steamy moments that I was almost afraid people could read over my shoulder. Hot!

Vice and Miller's story is a nice romantic low drama and low angst. It's very well written and the storyline is interesting. The second epilogue could have been a bit better, but I enjoyed this book and I will be reading the next one.

Great story! Loved Miller and Vice! Gotta love a strong female - a female tattoo artist (who owns the tattoo shop) and who can totally take care of herself. And the male lead is not too shabby himself! This book was a great quick read, never dull. I can’t wait to start the next one in the series.

Love Vice to bits

She is the anti trope and I love her. This is the way to do contemporary Dd/LG zero ich factor. Two grown adults with relatively normal lives and backgrounds. No Uber broken teens. No grooming, just a great fun romance
