Reaper #12

Dark Alpha's Need

Rate this book
From New York Times bestselling author Donna Grant comes another gripping story in her Reaper series featuring a brotherhood of elite assassins who wage war on the Fae at Death's behest—and the women who dare to love them.

There is no escaping a Reaper. I am an elite assassin, part of a brotherhood that only answers to Death. And when Death says your time is up, I’m coming for you…

The latest threat uncovered, it is my honor and duty to oust those responsible for the slaughter of so many and make the Fae Others pay for their crimes. However, nothing could have prepared me for the stunning and curious female that crosses my path. She’s an enigma: equal parts strength and vulnerability. She quiets the rage I’ve carried within me for so long and makes me question Death’s directives for the first time ever. Her tragic, emotional story touches something deep within me, and her bravery is awe-inspiring—which makes it doubly hard to let her return to the enemy and the dangers that await. I never expected her, but I need her. She is everything to me, and I will do whatever it takes to make sure she’s safe and by my side. Forever.

I received an ARC of this book in return for my honest review. Dark Alpha’s Need is the 12th book in the Reapers series. This is Torin’s story, however it also continues to build on the possible connection between Aisling and Xaneth (the royal Light Fae that Usaeil tortured) and his changing powers and the other Reapers in the second Reaper Group (including my personal favorites - Erith and Balladyn. The stories and challenges for the 2nd group of Reapers are still forming, however, Dark Alpha’s Need provides readers with more insight into the challenges coming and the future connections for Dragon King and Rhi crossovers.

The book picks up with the Reapers hunting for information about the new Fae Others called “the Six” to get a better understanding of the new dangers facing the Reapers, the Dragon Kings, and humanity.

Torin and Aisling are searching for Fae who may have a connection to the Six and find Breda as she’s running from the Six’s soldiers. Breda’s heritage gives her some abilities that we haven’t seen in the series before and when she fully masters them she’ll give the Reapers an edge in future battles.

Torin and Breda’s story is about personal growth that comes from being able to share your past personal trauma in order to move forward as a stronger person. They helped one another accept their past trauma (Torin’s betrayal story is heart-breaking) and Breda’s has her own betrayal story that lasted most of her life.

Two damaged souls found one another and forged a bond of trust and love that ultimately helped the Reapers and Death learn more about the Six. I can’t wait to read the next Reapers story, Dark Alpha’s Silent Night. Thank you for another great read Donna Grant!

Torin and Breda: We got a little bit of resistant love in this one. Torin was drawn to Breda fro the start but it took him a bit to realize why. Every time I hear how these reapers have been betrayed, it breaks my heart. It seems that the heroine's have just as much of a tragic back story as well. I think I'm more vengeful than they are because I want them get revenge. Sadly, they are better than I am about that. I'm worried about Raurc, a side character from the previous book. I really liked him and it seems he's in some trouble now. I'm looking forward to finding out what happens next.

So good and such a quick read. I actually didn’t look up who the hero Reaper would be in this book so it was a nice surprise. I loved that we learned more about the Fae Others in this book and who runs them. Honestly this is the book that begins the set up for the action packed next books. If you’re a fan of the Dark World you’re going to love this one and everything it implies.

Dark Alpha’s Need is Torin’s story, a Light Fae Reaper in the second group. The group is going after the new group of “Others” called the Six…. The Reapers begin following Breda who is connected to them. She has an interesting heritage and back story…sorry no spoilers here. When the Six sends soldiers after her, Torin takes her to the Fae Realm.

Donna is still weaving this new story arc, for the Dark World. It is still forming, but it looks like its about to explode into something completely awesome. New Realms… endless possibilities!

This ARC was received through the Donna Grant’s ARC Angels for an honest review. Any and all opinions are my own and in no way reflect the opinions of the author, publisher or the greater DG groupie community.

Dark Alpha's Need is the 12th book of the Reaper Series. The reapers are looking for information on a group of Others called "The Six". The Six want to destroy the Kings and the Reapers and take over the world. Reapers Torin and Aisling are looking for information in Dublin on them when they find Breda, a hafling, running from the Six's soldiers.
Breda has special powers. She is an empath and hasn't yet learned how to control her power. The Six want to use her powers for their benefit. She has lived a very difficult life and is naïve and innocent in the ways of the world. When Torin and Aisling find Breda she is terrified of the soldiers. Torn and Aisling save her from them. Torin and Breda are instantly attracted to one another and soon form a friendship based on a common experience - betrayal. They open up to one another and realize they have many things in common.
Xaneth appears in the book and Aisling is worried about him and wants to find him. The plot thickens and more questions come to mind but I know Ms. Grant will answer them when it is time.
This novella is a quick read filled with suspense, intrigue, mystery, betrayal, danger, trust and love. All the ingredients for a great story! I really enjoyed this one as well as everything Donna has written. I received an ARC of this book from the author to provide my honest opinion.

The battle between the Others and the Reapers is slowly coming to a head, but until Erith and her people get an edge they have no hope of defeating the enemy out to destroy them and take over the world. Grant returns us to the world of her Reapers still in the midst of their fight for humanity and to protect the world from the evil Fae that are trying to take over and form a new faction of the Others. This world continues to evolve and we have gotten to know so many great characters through this series and in conjunction with the Dark Kings/Dragon King series, but I don’t think any of us ever imagined just how in depth and intriguing this series would become. In this newest story Torin and Aisling are hunting for information when they stumble across a most unusual source, a Fae name Breda who shines with an interesting inner light that Torin can’t seem to forget. Torin instantly knows that he has to keep Breda safe and as the danger around her escalates, she becomes much more than just a way to gain information or entre into the enemy stronghold. Breda has been on the run essentially her entire life, never having a place to call home or a group to be her true family, but when she meets Torin she wants so badly to believe in him and offers her trust even though she knows it might end up getting her killed. Together they will have to come to terms with their place in this war and find a way to accept that sometimes the sacrifices they make are what earn them the right to be together. I really enjoyed Torin and Breda’s story and getting to know them was both heartbreaking and intriguing. Breda has lived a life that is horrific no matter how you look at it, but she keeps her head high and a smile on her face, even when she believes she is about to die. Her strength and inner sweetness obviously drew Torin to her, but more than that, it shows the other Reapers that she is the perfect ally and a woman they can truly trust to join their ranks. Torin has had his fair share of traumas in life leaving him jaded and distrustful of everyone outside of his inner circle, but when he meets Breda he knows on a deep level instantly that she is different, though it takes him awhile to trust that instinct. Even when he doubts her he still gives his all to protect her and offers her a chance to experience life in ways she never has and that allows them both the chance to blossom. That level of sweetness and dedication made Torin so much better to me and made me like him all the more. There were moments that could have certainly made him doubt Breda but he always found a way to dig deeper and believe in her and together they found a way to make a dent in their enemies. The instant draw between Torin and Breda was emotionally charged from the beginning, with passion and a connection that will definitely last a lifetime. Not to be forgotten, the continuing drama of Xaneth gets more “screen time” in this story and while I have my suspicious where it is headed, I can only say for sure that wherever it ends up, that story will be one for the record books and I’m dying to read it. I cannot wait for where Donna takes this series next, but I can tell you for sure that whatever the big conclusion to this battle with the Others turn out to be, it will be a doozy. Grant once again strikes gold with the story of two people with broken hearts that find the trust to heal one another and find love.

I liked it. Captivating bonding scenes between Torin and Breda, with exciting glimpses into all the Reapers' lives.

Torin and Aisling are hunting the six Fae that make up the Fae Others. They tracked Breda to a pub with rooms upstairs where they find her trying to hide from the Others. Breda was recruited to the group, but she didn't agree with how they treated the Fae that had joined. Torin vows to protect Breda from the Others while the Reapers work hard to discover their plans.

It is always exciting when the Reapers work together as a group, so I loved seeing the others as well and learning a bit more about each of them as the story unfolds, especially Balladyn. Erith is there as well to calm things down with her reassuring presence.

Most of the book is Torin and Breda hiding away and getting to know each other (and falling in love). The inevitable fight between the Reapers and the Fae Others was very thrilling and intense, but over so quickly.

Something that bothered me is that Breda has the potential for great magic, but it was only ever used against her. She never got the chance to use it for good or for her own purposes. It would've been nice to see her come into her own that way.

This book sets up the series nicely to continue the hunt for the Fae Others. I am definitely invested and can't wait for the next installment.

Thank you to the author for providing me with a copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Orbs are flying. Evil is swarming. The others are collecting followers. They are finding more and more believers. Those that question need to run. They better run. Traitors will not be tolerated. Ashes will be collecting.

Torin and Aisling have to find Beda. The clock is ticking. The soldiers are getting closer. If the soldiers find her she is done for. Her only hope is the reapers.

The reapers job is getting harder. They need to find the six others and stop them. How are they going to do that when then don't know who they are? Don't know where they are? The reapers have a mission and they won't stop until it done.

Dark Alpha's Need is packed with action. Dark Alpha's Need is full of suspense. Every time I thought they were a step closer, out of now where, things would ver in a different direction. My life was put on hold. Torin and Breda took over. Dark Alpha's Need took over.

I was sucked into their story. The thrills. The chills. The pain. The sorrow. Get ready to duck as orbs fly. Teleport along with the reapers to different locations. Join the reapers as they watch from a veiled position. Buy Alpha's need, get sucked in and enjoy the ride.

This is another good installment in the Dark World series which connects also other well-known series by Ms. Grant. This series is a paranormal romance, so it's one of the cases where I allow insta-love to happen and even like it. This author has her way with the words that make us fall in love with her characters! This is a story about Breda and Torin, she was thru a lot of bad things that happened to her in the past, a betrayal on top of it. He has a disturbing and melancholic past, he's one of the Elite killers for the Death. What will happen between them will be well crafted and made me lust for more of these stories!
I can't wait to read the next tory set in that world!

Torin and Aisling find Breda hiding from the Others. She has information they need but is reluctant to part with it because of fear for her life. Her own family abused her, and she afraid of more abuse. As Torin hides Breda from the Others, (Aisling has left on her own project) they fall in love as she has new adventures. We actually get to see the Others and learn vital information about them. Loved seeing Balledyn again.

Now where has Aisling gone and will she find Xaneth?

The world of the Reapers just keeps pulling me in further with each book! Grants uncanny ability to weave stories that suck you in is one of my favorite things about her writing!

Torin and Breda are two broken souls that attracted one another and found their peace! There are hurdles for them to overcome and a darkness spreading but with each other they are stronger and so are all Reapers as they get closer to finding who is targeting them!

I love how Grant gives us more than the two main characters and how we start to get glimpses of what is to come next! An amazing series and even more amazing characters to love!

Torin and Breda were a great couple to read about. Breda's background was absolutely heartbreaking and to be able to see her find not only happiness, but a family also was wonderful.

My two favorite series from Donna Grant is her Kings and Reapers. There’s always something to fall in love with. I absolutely fell in love with Dark Alpha’s Need within the first chapter. Donna always chooses characters that you can’t help but feel a connection to. Breda’s back story was so heart wrenching. I’ve read all the previous Reapers and Torin is one of my favorites. I was so happy to read their story. Some of it does it repetitive but that’s too be expected. I highly recommend Dark Alpha’s Need if you’ve read her previous books. It’s not required but you get a better sense of the whole picture which can sometimes seem choppy and chaotic. You just gotta go with the flow. Full disclosure I received and ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Some people go to therapy to deal with challenging times. I immerse myself in books that make me happy, and Donna Grant never disappoints. (Well, she can add an extra hundred pages or so per book, but that’s getting nitpicky!)
This Reaper story was about the Reaper Torin and Dark Fae (with a light heart) Breda. The Fae Others are at it again, and it’s up to the Reapers to infiltrate and bring them down. There is MUCH fast paced action in this story and a few parts made my heart hurt. Like every Reaper, Torin was betrayed, and his story breaks your heart. Breda comes from an abusive family situation, but they are instantly attracted to each other and fall fast and hard. It is always beautiful to see when two damaged souls can overcome their pasts to find happiness. I loved seeing Breda learn to have fun and enjoy activities that everyone takes for granted. Breda has an ability that we haven’t seen in any prior books in the Reaper series before and she’s always viewed it as a curse. Thankfully, as always, the couple gets their HEA but not without some heart-stopping moments and we are set up for the rest of the series. I loved seeing some of my favorite characters (Balladyn, Erith, Cael) and we get more insight into these darned Others. Who’s number one? Knowing Donna, the reveal will be mind blowing.
I am looking forward to seeing what happens with Aisling and Xaneth, and am counting the days until Dark Alpha’s Silent Night is released. Thanks for another great read! I am looking forward to listening to the Audible version this week as Victoria McGloven always does an amazing job bringing the Reaper stories to life.

Disclosure: I received an ARC of this book in return for my honest review.

This is Torin and Breda's story and what a whopper it is!!

Breda shows up on the Reaper's radar as having something to do with the new Other's who are calling
themselves The Six. Torin and the Reaper's know they have to keep her safe if they are going to learn
anything about the group. This gives Torin and Breda time together and it's the best kind of love story!
Action packed, wicked love scenes and tender moments as well. I won't give anything away but just know
that this one will pull you in and keep you until the very end!! Donna Grant knows her business and business is GOOD!!!!

I received this ARC for my honest opinion.

DARK ALPHA’S NEED is the eleventh instalment in Donna Grant’s contemporary, adult REAPERS paranormal, romance series focusing on Death’s Reapers. This is Reaper assassin Torin, and Breda’s story line. The REAPERS is a spin off from Donna’s DARK KINGS series which is a spinoff from Donna’s DARK WARRIOR series which in turn is a spin off from Donna’s DARK SWORD series- all set in the Highlands of Scotland. You do not have to have read any of the previous series to understand the premise but many of the events of the Reapers series, overlap with the events of the Dark Kings series. DARK ALPHA’S NEED can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty but I recommend reading the series in order for back story and cohesion.

SOME BACKGROUND: The Reapers (believed to be a folk lore amongst the Fae) are a group of Dark and Light Fae, selected by Death (aka Erith), on their own deathbed, to do her bidding-Death is the judge and jury; the Reapers are the executioners. The Reapers are not harbingers of death, but are tasked with destroying the Light and Dark Fae who have crossed a line from which there is no return. All Reapers must follow two rules: never to fall in love; and never to reveal their existence to anyone but a group known as the Others, have declared themselves the rulers of the Fae, and their next ‘mission’ is to take down the Reapers, having failed to destroy the Dark Kings.

Told from third person perspectives, following several pathways, DARK ALPHA’S NEED focuses on the hunt for the Others. Ainsley and Torin have located Breda, a young woman, a Fae who has recently escaped the group known as the Others. Hoping to ferret out information from Breda, Torin and Ainsley begin to question our heroine, only to realize she, and thusly the Others, are aware of more than they could have imagined but the appearance of the Other soldiers finds Ainsley and Torin watching from afar when a Fae they long thought dead and missing takes down the soldiers like a trained assassin. While Ainsley goes in search of the long lost Fae, Torin and Breda must face the Reapers, and the woman they have come to call Death, and friend. What ensues is the building relationship between Torin and Breda, as the Reapers devise a plan to take down the Others but in doing so use our story line heroine as a target and as bait.

Breda knows betrayal first hand, and in this, she is reluctant to reveal the truth about her past but Torin suspects Breda is keeping secrets, and in this, he must convince our heroine to trust in an effort to uncover the whereabouts of the Others.

Meanwhile, Ainsley goes on the hunt for Xaneth, the missing and broken Fae who mind and spirit have been tortured and abused. Xaneth is no longer the Fae male he once was, and in this, I suspect the betrayal will make him a candidate for the next chosen Reaper.

The relationship between Torin and Breda is one of immediate attraction but Breda is on the run, and her inability to trust threatens her relationship and friendship with our story line hero. When Torin reveals the truth about his past, Breda must come clean about the abusive childhood she had to endure, a childhood in which her powers would be used for evil rather than for good. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including Xaneth, and several members of the Reapers, and Death.

DARK ALPHA’S NEED is a story of betrayal and vengeance; power and control; retaliation and humiliation; acceptance, relationships, family and love. The premise is intriguing and captivating; the romance is seductive; the characters are animated and energetic.

Series: Reaper #12
Rating: 3 stars - I liked it

Torin and Aisling are hunting down a group of fae known as The Others when they come across Breda who is on the run from them. Torin finds himself captivated by Breda and is determined to save her.

This was a very quick story. Torin and Breda instantly are attracted to each other and they quickly fall in love after only a few days together. Torin opens up a little with Breda but we still don’t get a lot of his history, mostly just how he was betrayed. I just never really felt like I connected to Torin. Breda grew up sheltered and abused by her family. I loved her joy at trying new things like rock climbing and swimming. She was fearless and I liked her a lot. I think her ability was interesting and it was sad how it had been used against her.

There was some progress in the fight against The Others. The Reapers finally have their first confrontation with the ringleaders but it wasn’t very long. I was really expecting more of an impact with the first meeting but it was still a good start I think. Overall, this was a pretty good addition to the series. I do wish there had been more development on the relationship though because it felt a little rushed and flat at times.

Trigger Warnings: Breda was physically and emotionally abused by her mother and grandmother.

Dark Alpha's Need is the 12th book in the Reapers series. It is very important to read from the beginning of the series or you will be kind of lost.
This book is about the Reaper Torin and Breda. Breda has been with the others and is now on the run for her life. Torin and his fellow reapers are on the hunt for the new group of "Others". They find Breda and use her to get inside information on the Others. Breda hopes that as long as she is giving the Reapers information they will protect her. Even though Breda knows Torin and his fellow fae are Reapers, she doesn't everything. Breda has secrets of her own.

Torin and Breda's connection was founded on shared pain and the need for acceptance. Breda's struggle to master her chaotic powers was a compelling parallel to Torin's inner battle to move past his darkness. Their romance wad characterized by a beautiful tenderness and the fierce protective instinct that defines the Reapers. The moments of Torin guiding Breda and finding solace in her unique light were the absolute highlights.

As the narrative was heavily focused on moving the "Six" storyline forward, the development of Torin and Breda's bond, while deep, sometimes felt like it takes a backseat to the escalating plot points. Breda's eventual mastery of her complex powers, which is a major plot device, felt slightly too sudden given the previous focus on her struggle.

However, this was a powerful and necessary entry in the Reapers series. It delivered a deeply emotional romance with a hero finding peace and a heroine accepting her true self.

I love the world Donna Grant has created. In Dark Alpha’s Need she has continued the fantastic Reapers series with Torin and Breda’s sweet story and the on going fight with the Others. More backstory is given on the Others and it’s building to what I expect will be an epic battle! I can’t wait for the next one. Ms. Grant’s books are on my automatic buy list. She’s an incredible writer and world builder!

So I mostly enjoyed this, but at the same time, absolutely nothing happens until the last less than 10% of the book. Torin and Aisling are following a lead and looking for a specific person. Which they find right away. Then the entire rest of the story except for that end is Torin and Breda in the fae realm talking and then the next day having sex and apparently falling in love. Yes, we get little snippets from Xaneth which are interesting, but other than that? Nothing. I was happy to find out what happened with Raurc though because I was wondering when he simply disappeared in the last one. Not to say he's in a good spot though...

When Torin and Aisling find Breda she is on the run from the Others and trying to hide. She's not doing a good job at it because only minutes after these two Reapers find her, the soldiers show up for her. Left with absolutely no other choice, Breda decides to throw her luck in with the Reapers. At least she managed to get an oath from the two of them that they will make sure she never ends up in the hands of the Others.

Like every other guy here, Torin is immediately drawn to Breda but he's not sure why. And after he hears her story, he's even more smitten. In exchange for their protection, Breda has agreed to tell them everything she knows about the Others, who they are, and what they're planning. She also ends up telling the secret of her past, her special power, and her parentage. She had a truly terrible childhood, but somehow her curiosity has remained intact and actually fuels a lot of her life. Too bad this time it's what has gotten her a death sentence. Honestly, she didn't tell them anything new, but she did confirm things they already thought they knew. And her descriptions of the six in charge did not impress me nearly as much as it did the others. I'm not nearly as confident they would be able to find these fae based on what she told them as they are.

Basically what it all boils down to here is this. Day 1: question and answer session. Day 2: flirting, fun, and sex. Day 3? (not sure if it was still day two or not here): use Breda as bait to find where the Others are hiding. And that was the only part with some action. It doesn't go at all how the Reapers wanted, and you could even say their actions there made things worse, but if nothing else, the thinned the enemy herd a little bit. So there's that.

Dark Alphas Need: Every time I start reading one of Donna Grants books I can not put them down! Donna Grant’s amazingly wonderful imagination takes us on adventure to find out more information about a dangerous enemy gaining strength behind the scenes the new group of Others! Torin one of the Reapers has been tasked with a new mission find a dark Fae to find out more about this enemy.

Torin didn’t plan on coming face to face with a woman so beautiful he is captivated the second he lays eyes on her there is something more to this Fae. Breda is an intriguing Dark Fae who has grown up in a large dysfunctional family! Torin needs to gain her trust quickly, with the Others following Breda they have to gain the upper hand. Torin discovers Breda’s family isn’t as it seems adding to their enemies and her gift is something that is precious misused by those who should have cherished her. Torin is captivated by her in a way that he has never been before and wants to aide her in anyway he can without putting her in harms way.

This is book 12 in the Reaper books and will leave you on the edge of your seat to see what happens next! This amazing book takes us on a journey with these two characters and their undeniable attraction with each other. Will Breda finally get the answers she seeks and will Torin be able to return to the other Reapers with the answers they are seeking you will have to read and find out.

All I can say is Donna Grant you are an amazing Author you always nail it. I cannot wait to see what happens next! I am giving this book 5 stars Donna Grant’s books are so easy to read and if you haven’t read her books before this one will certainly leave you wanting more. Another terrific addition to this thrilling Reapers series! I love these supernatural fierce men and women. This one features Torin, the sexy Reaper with a sad past that still tortures him but there’s some relief on the way. Torin and his fellow Reapers are still on the hunt for the Fae Others to end their reign of terror. The Others are hunting the Reapers to annihilate the warriors. Tracking the Others lead to Breda. She’s on the run after leaving the Others after learning horrifying secrets about the group. Torin and fellow Reaper Aisling save Breda and plan to learn her secrets. And Breda is full is secrets the biggest is about her past and what she is. Quite a surprise is in store for everyone. I love the continuing storylines about the Others and the hunt for Xaneth. Xaneth is suffering after his run in with an evil Fae even as he assist the Reapers. Another face from the recent past appears as Ruarc shows up in a unexpected place. This story was a little slow in places as Breda reveals her secrets and her relationship with Torin moves to a sexy place. She and Torin had a connection right from the beginning and it moves to a sizzling situation in no time. But can she tell her secrets and get the guy? After all, she’s what she is and Torin is the ultimate warrior. There’s good action and danger when the Reapers challenge the Others with Brenda’s help. There’s some advancement in the Reapers war with the Others as the Others move forward with there plans to take over. All our old friends are in full force as the fight with the Others turns deadly. Balladyn is featured in this story and I look forward to his romance as well as Aisling’s. Plus Xaneth needs to be found and heal from his torture. I love these Reaper romances and can’t wait for the next installment.

This is book 12 in the Reapers series and I would absolutely read the previous books before reading this one or you may be confused as to what is happening. And honestly, I would read the Dark King's series as well as they intertwine in parts (especially towards the end of the Dark King's series before it off shoots). With that being said, in this one we get Torin's story! Torin is part of the new grouping of Reaper's that we are just learning more about. It picks up the story where the previous book left off with them hunting for people to learn more about the Other's and their goals. And while Torin and Aisling are on the hunt, they come across Breda who is on the run from the Six and their soldiers. And when Torin and Breda spend time together, they realize that they have a connection that not many see or find. But they also know that there is more going on than what they have seen, and Breda doesn't think she will survive the outcome.

I absolutely loved this book!! I loved how Torin and Breda's story plays out. They both had to quickly learn to trust each other but that just helped them communicate and truly learn who the other was. I loved how they felt they could talk about their pasts and what happened to them and move on from it. That it didn't have to define everything in their lives even if it put them on the path that they were currently on. I loved seeing other characters that I am impatiently waiting for stories on! If any of you are fans of Balladyn and Xaneth then you will love the snippets that you see. I can't wait for their stories to get here!! As always with this world, I was sucked in right from the start and I never want the book to end! Another great read!

Torin is a Reaper, he and his fellow Reapers are hunting 'The Others.' A Fae group of Light and Dark Fae determined to wipe out the Reapers and the Dark Kings so Fae can rule the world.
Breda was manipulated into becoming a dark fae. She grew up hated and abused by her family and had hoped the Others would become her new family.

The Others is a Fae cult that once you know of them you join or you die. Breda tries to run but they keep finding her. Torin and Aisling find Breda and save her from the Others' soldiers, in exchange for her help in tracking down the leaders of the Others.

Torin never expected to feel a connection with Breda but as he gets to know more about her, he knows he can never walk away from her. They both have pasts that hurt them deeply but together they find ways to heal.

Ainsling abandons Torin to chase after Xaneth. There's a connection there and he drops in and out of the story several times.

While I liked the characters and seeing others from previous books, this story jumped around quite a bit. It made it hard to really feel deeply about any one in particular. The characters are likeable but were hard to connect with, I kept expecting more depth but the scene would cut away to something else.

If you are a Reaper fan this story is another step in the Reaper fight against the Others, with peeks into what the future holds. Instant attraction and another Reaper finds love. If you haven't read the previous books, I strongly recommend it before diving into this one.

Are The Six the new Others?
In their ongoing search for the Fae trying to reform the Others, the Torin and Aisling are searching for a specific Fae. They find Breda, and save her, before the Fae soldiers coming after her can get to her. Breda was being initiated into the group of Fae who were trying to continue what the Others were working towards. She decided to leave the group, only problem was, no Fae left the group and lived.
The Reapers knew by getting Breda first, they could get useful information about the Fae in charge. This was both Torin & Aisling’s mission, but Aisling is preoccupied with the need to find Xaneth. When she goes to try to find him, this leaves Torin with trying to get Breda to trust him. He did not expect to be so drawn to this vulnerable Fae. Breda has been betrayed her whole life, but she wants to believe this Reaper she is realizing she is attracted to.
The Reapers and Breda together decide that Breda would be the perfect bait to draw out the Six Fae who are in charge this new group. When the plan is put into motion, the Six were expecting the Reapers. They are ambushed but they see a familiar face. The Reapers came out after killing one of the Six, but a whole group of Fae were witness to the attack on the Six. Now they think that they have become the bogeymen that have been made out to be.
As always, each new story in Donna Grant’s makes me want more. Torin & Breda were instantly drawn to each other, and I was wondering what new twist was going to unfold. This tale also has me really anticipating Aisling’s story, Xaneth’s story and/or Aisling & Xaneth’s story…..

First I want to say the Dark World series' that Donna Grant has created is one of my addictions. I mean who couldn't fall in love with Highlanders, Dragons, Fae, Reapers, Druids, and of course mortals. Dark Alpha's Need is book 12 in the Reapers series and it really does need to be read in order or you lose so much of the context. The Reapers are Fae warriors that were once betrayed and killed, brought back by Death to be her executioners as she is judge and jury over the Fae. At one time Death didn't allow her Reapers to ever find love or a partner. But after betrayal by one of her Reapers (previous books) she changed her views and even found love herself. Must read series for all the details. On the very good side, each book is like meeting up with old friends and going on new adventures. Donna has created such an incredible world and characters that I can't help but want to just fall into each and every book.

Dark Alpha's Need continues in the search for "the Others", or at least the new group of "Others". The Reapers are still searching for Xaneth, and he does make several appearences as do Erith and Cael, but must also face the dangers the new Others present.

Breda is on the run from the Others. She knows her life is in peril, and she doesn't know who to fear more, the Others or the Reapers. Her story is so compelling, I will admit I still want to jump thru the pages and give her a hug. Torin (Reaper) has sworn to protect her and keep her safe in exchange for information on the Others.

Can't say too much more without giving away the story, and well, it is just too good not to read. Highly recommend!!
