This is the 1st book I read by Carrie Lighte. This book's storyline was okay. I liked the Christian theme in this story. Arleta's character was okay. Noah's character was okay. Arleta & Noah got on my nerves in this story. I liked the ending.
Hiding Her Amish Secret is a very sweet enduring love story written by Carrie Lighte. The author has done a wonderful job telling her story thru her amazing characters. Secrets are abundant in this story by several characters. Arleta Bontrager has all but given up on marriage because of a mistake she made while on Rumspringa. She feels no Amish man will marry her when she reveals her secret. Arleta has been hired to care for Noah Lehman's sick grandmother and is shocked by his attitude towards her. Noah is hiding a secret of his own and both secrets keep coming back to haunt them. Mean while Noah's grandmother has her sights on something completely different and puts her plan into action. This love story will really tug at your heartstrings and emotions. This is another fantastic story by this author.
I was not given a complimentary copy of this book to read and review. I was not approached to post a favorable response and all opinions are my own. I have rated this story with five stars for meeting my expectations of a wonderful story that I can highly recommend to others.
If someone knew your darkest secret, could they still accept you? I just couldn’t help loving this charming story! Arleta, Noah, and grandmother Sovilla were all such real and down-to-earth characters. Each had a burden of guilt for past deeds, though Sovilla had learned to lay hers down at the foot of the cross. It took a little longer for her grandson and caretaker to learn this lesson, and not without a little physical and emotional suffering. I liked the work ethic that both Noah and Arleta shared, but laughed at their confusion as they totally misunderstood each other on so many occasion. I was glad they finally found their happily-ever-after. This story will give you insights into the Amish lifestyle and samples of their interesting language. I raced through it in just a couple days, and can’t wait to find the next book in this series.
Arleta Bontrager has a secret from her running around period as a teen. She’s convinced no one will want to marry her because of this. She accepts a position as a live-in caregiver for caring for Noah Lehman’s ill grandmother. He also deals with a painful secret from his past and believes he could never wed because of this. The two of them may dance around a mutual attraction, but think a relationship could never work out. I liked the caring characters and how they grew and matured in life and faith. Forgiveness is a powerful theme, including forgiving yourself. This endearing story will touch readers’ hearts. I received a copy from an author. All opinions are my own.
On most Amish girls Rumspringa they try many things not of their plain world including colorful patterned clothing and make up which are all temporary, but Arleta takes things one step forward and does something permanently. When she goes to take care of Noah's groossmammi she can't please Noah yet they grow closer. She struggles to share her secret with him.
I enjoyed this sweet story and once again I was mystified at the secrets over so many things within the Amish families.. If they just spoke their feelings, dreams and wishes they would save themselves a lot of heartaches. But a nice story with a good happy ending!
Arnett has a secret; during her rumspringa she thought to leave the Amish and got a tattoo. Noah, a young man from a neighboring district, hires her to be his grandmother's caregiver while she recovers from cancer treatment. He has his own secrets; will they be able to move past the shame they feel and know they are forgiven? A good read!
What a nice story! I had a difficult time getting started but once I got into the story, I really enjoyed it. I think others will like it, too. I great that people can understand that sin can be forgiven by God and also our loved ones.
This story was okay but not much to keep a person interested. There were some words used that I wasn't sure what they meant and some I knew from reading other Amish books.
O only have this 3 stars as too.many words that I couldn't understand they wasn't ones you find in a typical Amish book So because of this only 3 stars instead of 5 as it wasn't the easiest to follow
Something that seems so minor to a non Englisher, is very serous for an Amish person, especially a woman. It was interesting to see how sin and bad choices were dealt with and how forgiveness overcomes it all. 1 John 1:9.
I liked it, thought it was a silly thing to hide, especially wearing. socks all the time, couldn’t she have worn a bandage over it, or explained it was a silly thing she did during her rumspringa.
I really enjoyed this book! I thought the tattoo storyline was unique and I was very curious how it would resolve throughout the book. I enjoyed the pace at which Arleta and Noah's relationship progressed. I also liked how the supporting characters played into the story. If you like Amish fiction, I highly recommend this book.
