After Before

Rate this book
This is a story of light and shade, filled with heartbreak, belonging, friendship, second chances, and above all else, love.

Mackenzie finds out there is more to her new job at Moreton Hall than just being the tea girl. There is a guest staying there called Sam, who is so lost in his past, she’s not sure anyone can save him. As she gets to know his backstory, all she wants to do is help free him from his torment and make him smile again, but it is Sam who helps Mackenzie to move forward with her life, to dare to dream, and to know just how important love is.

Maggie finally found a place in the world where she fitted in, but she didn't know that she would meet Sam there and fall in love with him. It was forbidden, but that was the least of her worries. She was in danger, and she had to take a risk, but she had no idea that trying to escape with Sam would be fatal.

This is Mackenzie’s love story, and Maggie’s love story, and Sam’s journey into both of their worlds.

My Rating: 4.5 Stars

Having read the previous books from this author and enjoying them very much I couldn’t wait to get started on this one. I wasn’t sure what to expect from this one as all the previous books I’ve read have been so different.

After Before is a book about friendship, hope and love all rolled into one and I loved every part of it.

The writing is simple yet engaging I never felt bored which I know was due to the unique plot. I found the plot to be very intriguing and couldn’t wait to find out what would happen to the characters.

The characters are also very well done. On the surface they seem like your average character but as you read on you discover just how complex they really are. At the beginning I found the characters to be quite unlikeable but once again as you read on and learn more about them, especially Sam you get to understand exactly why they behave and react the way they do.

Although I loved this book one thing I would have liked more of was Sam’s side of the story, especially as we don’t hear much from him, most of what we learn we learn through Maggie’s POV.

This was a great read and one I could have definitely read in a couple of days if it wasn’t for personal commitments.

If you’re looking for an exciting contemporary thriller romance I definitely recommend you give this book ago. I also recommend Karen’s other books too!!

A big thank you to Karen for sending me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.

The main reason I like this story is because it made me laugh and cry and want to hug Sam so much, so this book gets five stars from me.

I really enjoyed this book, I knew there would be a dark twist, but I wasn't expecting that! It took me a little while to get used to the writing style- quite short sentences. I loved the characters and I read it very quickly, as I wanted to see if they would have a happy ending. The two story lines were written really well and went side by side brilliantly.

Brilliant

I loved this book but at first I wasn't sure about the story, after a couple of chapters i couldn't put it down such a wonderful love story in difficult circumstances, but a truly happy ending.

I found this book on my kindle from 2023 that I hadn’t read. But I read it in just a few days as it was so intriguing. Delving into the worlds of cults and the aftermath. Mackenzie the main character is someone who has good friends but misses what’s right in front of her nose. Then she starts working at an intriguing place and discovers life isn’t all it seems for some people. I don’t think this book is about but it’s worth a read if you can.

Such a lovely story of friendship building, love and strength.
This will be a fav of the year.
Written beautifully and so descriptive I could see the scenes and imagined it as a movie.
