Lala Comics: The Hilarious Encounters of a Muslim Woman Learning Her Religion

Rate this book
As we all do, Lala goes through life with her family learning and trying her best to get closer to Allah. What is different about her is that she gets into some quite peculiar, but hilarious situations! She uses these to grow and learn more about how she should have acted according to the advice of the Prophet (peace be upon him). LALA is a comic book with a compilation of over stories, each of which teaches and reminds the reader of simple Islamic teachings (alongside a good cheeky laugh). Join Lala and read along to find out what could possibly happen when someone misunderstands a hadeeth or Quranic verse!

Where was this book when I was a teen?!❤️

Genre: YA/Graphic Novel
Ages: 13 and up

Screening: pic of shaytan, mention of clubbing/nudity, mention of halloween celebration. (Nothing really concerning just brief mentions in comic format)

I am so obsessed with this cute (high quality hard cover) graphic novel by @lalaartwork ❤️

To sum it up: it is a series of relatable, cute, funny comics that include Islamic morals and ahadith and exaggerate them in a funny way to entertain the reader, but also make them so memorable that the reader learns so much along the way!!

The book follows Lala, who is a practicing hijabi Muslim woman (she appears maybe in her early twenties, is married, and has a baby), but she is so cute and funny that she is relatable to girls in their early teens, as well as adults like me!

Lala faces lots of obstacles, some ridiculously funny (like making duaa for someone she dislikes) and real life, like racism for being a hijabi. She faces it all with pride in her deen, and the whole book is unapologetically Muslim!

Lala’s husband plays an advising role and reminds her of Islamic morals to do (this was the islamic learning voice but was done in such a cute way with the hat that it was so fun!)

I loved how the ahadith, ayahs, and Islamic tidbits said by her husband were all sourced immediately under each one, which not only is informative, but helps with authenticity!

The funny part was where Lala would take what he said to the extreme and it def made me laugh out loud! I can see teens really enjoying this and can’t wait till my kids read this when they are older! Esp since I consider it a unique format to teach Islamic ahadith to teens who otherwise might not be receptive to nonfiction deen books.

I can’t wait for more of Lala in the future!!!

A very humorous collection of short situational comics that educate and enlighten readers about some basic principles of Islam without becoming overbearing and teaching with witty examples rather than just textbook preaching, the essence of the Prophetic Hadith, all the while normalizing regular Muslim representation through colorful illustrations.

This graphic novel is divided broadly into three sections that each deal with Hadith regarding the Muslim identity, Hadith relating to regular activities and the Hadith instructing Muslims with regards prayers/duas -essential to our daily life.

Hadith are the indispensable teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) that supplement our understanding and help us better practice Islam, and as such certain misinterpretations of Hadith can have quite the opposite effect as Lala, the lovable protagonist of this comics illustrates with the hilarious outcomes through her misunderstandings.

I loved all of the comics and in particular the ones about Eid, Jealousy, Mocking, Assuming and the Evil eye among others.

I really enjoyed reading it and laughed out loud so many times that my family curiously, came over and joined me in reading this collection.
My only qualm with the book is that it should have been longer.

A very lighthearted read that I highly recommend for both kids and adults alike!

A book that's both entertaining and beautiful to read.
Umm sulayman has shown lots of effort and heart has been put in to this book. Bringing humour and educational ingredient with every page. Its a beneficial book for all ages, children would benefit, adults and parents would benefit, whoever the reader is there's always something to take away from the many lessons that the Lala character has been journeying to learn. In addition there are references for the hadiths and ayahs that she used also, which is great regarding the validity and reliability of her work! The art work are incredible, the short stories are easy to follow and well thought out. I've been a massive fan of her works and this is definitely up there as one of her must see works. Can't wait to see what this author does next! In sha Allah.

Almost new to Islam, I found this book amazing. I had always been a follower of Lala Comics and had been an ardent fan since then.

Lala is the change! The most liked segment was ‘Be positive’. That Aalim hat was really a amazing in the stories.

The witty endings, the description, the characters and everything about this book is cool. There are many things that we can learn from each topics about Islam. A book enjoyed by every member of my family-young and old.

I wish her all the best and hoping for a Part 2.

This was actually so funny 😹😹😹😭😭😭🤣🤣🤣👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

I didn’t know what to expect but it really was a fun read but also relatable and also informative and a wonderfully accessible book for Muslims and Non-Muslims alike in understanding Islam a bit more.

I loved that they included the Hadith references and of course it was exaggerated for comedic effect but it was really funny as well as educational!

Why is there no second book??? I need MORE LALA DRAMA 😹😹😹 you can follow her on Instagram for more Lala Hijinks @lalaartwork

10/10 would recommend and also I’m sure the kids would LOVE this!

As a muslim parent living in the west, I would say that Lala comics is a MUST to have book for children and young adults. This is a beautiful book introduce important Islamic values in a content that is easy for children and teenagers to grasp. My children loved it and I liked how it helps me open discussions around topics such as pillars of iman, Muslims' manners, misconceptions around some Islamic values, etc

It's a book that defines a form of daawah which is rarely used but has a major effect on someone and that is using humour to pass the message. I have gained new knowledge whilst having my cheeks pain due to laughing !!😂😂😂😂 this using humour way of daawah is much appeasing to the youth and it hits straight to the heart ,which is a hard thing to change. However, I'll definitely reccomend this book to anyone looking to learn about Islam in an educational, fun and cheeky way! I love it!!!!!!

I loved this! Umm Sulayman uses the various stories throughout the comics to teach us different islamic principles and, although, they are laid out in a very child-friendly/centred way, there's definitely a thing or two you can learn from it as an adult. I certainly did ahah.

Finished the last few chapters of book today with my madrassah children and they loved it! Managed to make my niece read it too.

Character of Mawli and the situations she gets herself in give me the right kind of stress, it's amusing...

Filled with lots of jokes and laughs with an underlining islamic messages/dawah I love it! Definitely recommend keeping it on your shelf for your kids to read or gifting it to them.
