I enjoyed the chronological order that the books were broken up into and the historical facts peppered throughout. I didn't enjoy the overall content unfortunately.

This is an astounding resource that links the historical timelines and context of the Bronze Age Patriarchs through the early Christian church with contemporary middle eastern, Greek and Roman history.

There are helpful geographic breakout explanations and an appendix of maps that seemed designed to answer the questions I had. There are relevant and attractive art intermittently placed inline with the text.

This study bible is a great way to better integrate and understand biblical history. The authors carefully ‘fill in’ the regional history (Alexander/Hellenism and Roman/Jewish) during the ‘silent 500 years’ between the Old and New Testaments.

I wish I had this book in late high school and early college. It integrates the core of Western Civilization.

I love the idea of a truly chronological Bible, but the organization of this version was a little frustrating, particularly the organization of the Old Testament. For example, some Psalms were mixed in with David’s adventures, however, there were a chunk of Psalms they didn’t know what to do with so they stuck them all together at the end of David’s life. Also, there are parallel stories in Kings and Chronicles that they have separated so they are disconnected when you read one and then additional content and then flash back to the other. Also, a couple online resources I have used in the past place the book of Job towards the beginning of time and this Bible places him somewhere after 586 BC.

It IS nice to have a book roughly laid out chronologically, though, and the study notes are informative. As stated previously, I had used several apps/websites/pamphlets in the past to read through the Bible chronologically and it was difficult to flip from one passage to the next. A lot of time was wasted moving between passages.

In addition, this resource is laid out very nicely in terms of having time periods broken into Epochs and those Epochs are explained historically. There are timelines throughout, as well as information about the version, reading Theological history, and rearranging the Bible’s Canonical Order. There are also cultural and historical topics listed, a glossary, a concordance, and each scripture is indexed in the back so you can see where a specific scripture is located in the text. This version also comes with a one year or two year reading plan in the back.

What a tremendous resource! I believe this volume is most helpful for those believers who have read the Bible, but long for a re-ordering...that is to say, to read a historical book with the words of the Prophets interspersed as the history is taking place. Also, ordering the book of Acts with the letters of Paul, Peter, and John interwoven, help clarify the early church world.

The many factual insertions about what was happening in the world during the times of the Bible were also fascinating, and helped clarify much of what happened to the nation of Israel.

For those who are interested, this Bible includes two reading plans: one for a one-year read, and a second to read it in two years. I found that I was on course to finish in less than a year, but once I hit the New Testament, its richness slowed me down considerably, and I relished every day's reading. God bless you as you read and study His word!

I ordered this Bible last year and began my “Bible in a Year” reading plan on January 1, 2025. Today, it's December 31, 2025, and I completed that journey. Reading the Bible in chronological order was especially fascinating. When I reached the New Testament, it was interesting to see how different authors described the same events in their own words. Each wrote the inspired Word of God, yet some accounts were more detailed than others—showing the human element, much like how we all take notes differently.
