I rather liked the premise of the first volume of I Swear I Won't Bother You Again!: Violette, given a new, time-looping lease on life after having committed a terrible crime, vows not to trouble anyone again. There was a lot of potential here to explore the idea that everyone is interconnected by a complex web of duty and affection that any one person can't just decide to remove themselves from. Between Violette's abusive childhood, Yulan's obsessive "love" for her, and the memory--held by her alone--of her crime and imprisonment, a thread of psychological horror permeated the story.

Sadly, all that happened in this volume was for me to wonder "How did this go so wrong, so quickly?" It went next to nowhere with the premise in particular, or anywhere at all, really.

When you have a story with interpersonal relations at its center--romance, psychodrama, etc.--each scene has to add layers to tension between the characters, or to their development, whether individually or in relation to each other.

What happens instead here, is reiteration of character beats from the previous volume, sparse dialogue, and pages of exposition about this or that person's feelings, making each short chapter feel longer than it really was. More strongly than in the previous volume, I had trouble making sense of the characters' thought processes or conclusions. Even the psychological horror felt toothless, for reasons that I can't seem to ferret out, because it isn't like those aspects changed much or at all.

And let's not get into how Violette (the only real spoiler for this book) . Despite how important it is to her, I didn't feel like it was explored in enough depth, and far too much time was instead spent on inconsequential events--shopping, exams, sitting in a courtyard--accompanied by agonized internal meandering.

After the last couple of paragraphs, perhaps it's needless to say that this volume was a disappointment. Its 43 serial episodes could maybe have been fifteen without my feeling like I'd missed anything.

This volume was published in Japan in January of 2020, and my admittedly slight explorations didn't unearth any evidence that another has been published in the meantime. That's an extraordinarily slow release schedule by web novel standards. I found up to episode 105 had been translated on a fan site, but fifteen episodes is nowhere near enough to fill another book (v. 2 takes us to ep. 90, and includes two brief side stories). The more time that goes by, the less I'm going to be interested in seeing more of this, especially after the so-so impression this volume left. (update, July 2023: volume 3 was released in translation May 2023, and volume 4 is scheduled for October.)

I'm sorry to say that this net novel/light novel is an example of a story that got off to a good start but quickly lost its way... or started walking in circles and wondered whose footprints they were seeing in the snow. My sympathy for Violette and her fruitless struggle to disconnect herself from others, more so than any strength of this book in particular, made me decide to round two and a half stars up to three.

Also, re: the cover (nothing to do with the story)... once I saw it, I couldn't unsee it.

Oh this was SUCH a let down! I was OBSESSED with this series, re-reading it over and over and over again. I waited SOO LONG for this to come out and WTH WAS THAT?!?

The manga and light novels seem like they were written by two completely different people with the same outline. “Here, hit these major plot points, but it doesn’t matter HOW you get there. GO!”

Yeah, no. Right now I’m feeling the manga more.

3, are you KIDDING me right now I waited for THAT, stars??!?

My dear Stars, am I pissed off!

This volume sheds no light upon why did Violette go back in time or how. Heck she ain't even interested in it and I guess the author just ended it with first volume "Maybe it was God's doing" as if that's good enough of an explanation. Sure, we have more pressing matters to explore than this minor thing, like Violette's character development for example. And while there are some changes, I was slightly disappointed with the execution at first, but thought "okay, let's give it some time". And then a bunch of text flew by with little to nothing changed.

What about the character development of other personages? NONE. Nonexistent. We saw little of Claudio (my small joys with this clumsy and a little awkward guy), little of Mila and some of Maryjune... But none of all this contributed in any way... Claudio notices Violette more and more and Yulan is the same old... Obsessed and disturbing character. I am legitimately scared of imagining him and Vio together as a couple. His emotions and thoughts scream a male version of Vio's mother. What with "He's empty without Vio. She's his whole world. Only Vio and her happiness matter. I want to lock her up and have her to myself"... He wears a mask around her constantly, and fears showing her his true self. He claims to want to help her, but never does, apart from giving her small amounts of distractions and giving us excuses not to talk to her about her problems. "Oh, let's not ask her about the family, the issues and how to work on resolving anything. Let's distract her for a moment as it would definitely overwrite all her constant pain and turmoils" ... What a bunch of bs? And Yulan.... He ain't just a red flag in my eyes, he's a freaking Chinese great wall length of red flags. He didn't change through this volume at all and gets even more determined that he's the only one who can understand and save Vio + heey he wants her all to himself, so might as well keep on scheming on how to wrap her in his net... And we end the volume with Vio freaking out cause she randomly found out she's in love with Yulan and wants him all to herself? I... WHAT?! I was freaking out alongside her in those last pages and prayed that Marin will talk some sense into her, like "let's calm down and think about what kind of love exactly you're feeling towards him and if it's not brought on just by your panic that you'll lose him as a friend if he gets close to Maryjune" , but no... We had none of that... I got so anxious I googled for spoilers for the story and... By the time I read, allegedly the biggest spoiler, I was ready to flip tables while cursing.

Other issues I have with this, is Elfa is basically there as decoration, we don't know anything about her, she doesn't try to talk to Vio at all, which... how is that normal? And I feel the author tries their best to make everyone hate Auld just like they do. Surely I have issues with the guy, but at least explain to us why he is the way he is. We all know people do things and act/speak in a certain way due to their own reasons. Leaving it all to the reader's imagination is lazy and sloppy in my opinion.

Another issue I have is Maryjune being described as this nice to a fault and naïve girl, who ends her dad's sharp remarks towards Vio with "Dad, you shouldn't have said it like that" and then moves on to ramble about something else... She never even attempts to say something like "But Violette also did her best" or something along the line. It just all looks like it's done over the top in order to make Vio miserable in any way possible and make you hate everyone else... Apart from Yulan, I guess, who I am supposed to ship with her? I'd do that only if he'd be able to heal her and himself, which so far there's no signs of that happening. Also... in the first book we have Vio admitting that even though her reasons for pursuing Claudio were twisted and impure, she was indeed in love with him, and now in the second volume we have a sort of "scratch that, Vio actually never loved him" which... excuse me?

Ending this rant with this - I liked the first volume, saw the potential of the story and characters, but this is just extremely disappointing. I already bought the 3rd volume in a bundle with the second, so I'll give it one last chance.

I hope the manga is done better and I pray to all the Stars she gets together with Claudio, cause they have the potential to grow together and be amazing as a couple. For the other characters, I think I'd ship Rosette and Gia cause I think he will have no problem accepting her the way she is. If Maryjune got interested in Yulan I hope she could heal him... He does need it too and Vio ain't the answer lol. Don't get me wrong, I've seen a lot of toxic couples turn into something healthy, but I just don't feel the chemistry between those two as a romantic one.

I was about to give this probably a 3 star rating, but with the last pages it dropped to 2.5 at best.

Inconsistent and Repetitious

This book felt like it was written by a whole new person who had only skimmed the first book.

For instance, the first book often had Violet wearing a mask, especially around others, with it slipping occasionally when she was with Yulan. In this book she says the word "jeeze" and she laughs in front of Claudia, and is otherwise awkward with very few notes about her mask being in place.

Also of note, is the way she is described as almost cowardly and without an understanding of how others are feeling. In the first book she might not understand how people feel, but she never comes off as almost pathologically bad/nervous about interacting with others. She is trained to hold conversations, she feels utterly incapable in the book.

As for repetitious, the story continues to bring up the same key points as book one with very few new anecdotes (it felt lazy). Like the story about the hug witnessed by Marin, Yulan's willingness to let the world burn for Violet, who will get the highest test scores, etc.

There was no meat to the story, and a lot of circling the same topic over and over again.

In closing, this feels like a draft that someone could cut at least 1/3 of the content off. The first book was much better written, organized, and consistent. I am feeling disappointed and am unsure if I should even continue the series after reading it.

Goodreads ate my last review, so this will be the simple, short version.
We’re starting to spin our wheels in place. I feel like the author enjoys writing about feelings, but didn’t really know what they wanted to do with the story. Because of that, we ended up with chapter after chapter of constant angsty inner monologues that didn’t really do anything.
Also, just gonna say it, people on here keep talking about how disturbing Yulan is and I don’t know what ya’ll are talking about. He is the most vanilla “”yandere””, but not actually, kind of character I’ve ever encountered. Yeah, he keeps thinking about how obsessed he is with Violette and other characters mention it too, but he doesn’t really do anything with it. And being rude to other people and glaring at them doesn’t count. Having thoughts about how far you’ll go for someone isn’t disturbing. It’s childish and it’s boring.
If he’s gonna be obsessive, then prove it to me. Have him DO something, not just tell me about his feelings.

I love this series I cannot wait until I read the next volume. I am loving Violet's blooming friendship with Princess Rosetta. I much like her am a part of the Violet appreciation Club. I feel so bad for Violet. She is realizing her love for Yulan. Wondering if he'll love her back. As the reader it's so obvious he is obsessed with her, dramatic irony as it is. He will love her back, but I understand why she's afraid of love. She has witnessed a skewed versions of love. Her view of her past with Claudia make her afraid of love I get that. I love Marin comforting her and telling her that it's okay to love. I love the Side Story with Gaia, he seems like a cool interesting character. Much like in the last volume I still hate her dad. I appreciate how Mary Jane is written as not being intentionally malicious, but still being malicious. I wish she would be more harsh with her dad when he's rude to Violet. Looking forward to the future volumes.

I like that Violette has someone in her corner, like Yulan, but after reading this volume I'm a little worried that their relationship isn't very healthy. Like Yulan's ever decision revolves around the potential benefit/harm to Violette, and the complete and total disregard for everything else.
I know both Violette and Yulan come from really screwed up childhoods, but I still hope that their relationship begins to move in a healthier direction.
On a side note: Can someone please gut-punch Violette's father? I don't think I've hated a fictional character this much since Dolores Umbridge. I know it's a sign of good writing that you can feel such deep emotions for a fictional character, but still!

I Swear I Won't Bother You Again! Vol. 2 continues on with Violet's story and her quest not to hurt anyone. She goes through high school avoiding people and focusing on her studies. The more she tries to avoid people though, the more that seem to grow attached to her. She gains new friends, if not allies, and starts to let herself feel things more than just duty to her family. Yulan's character is more fleshed out in this book and Violet recognizes her feelings that she has for Yulan might be more than just comradery. I will continue to read this series and I hope that they have a happily ever after.

The series started out good

And I think it still could be good… But this particular normal, became this giant, swirling vortex of interpersonal dialogue that led to the plot, being buried and very hard to find. I’m hoping the author will return to the first novel in the third novel… and give us more plot. I mean the characters are interesting and the plot lines. Interesting. But she repeats endlessly this inner creation myth of each character. Every time they’re in a chapter. It’s overwhelming and it distracts from the plot.

Love

Vio is my ultimate cinnamon roll, as of now. Who didn't expect her to fall in love with Yulan? He is her one and only socially equal constant, the one person who cares and smiles at her. Yet, who also didn't expect that love to cause her pain? All the examples of love she was given in her formative years was twisted and hurtful to her; how can she believe these feelings are a good thing? These questions only give the story that much more depth.

This book meanders A LOT. Nothing really happens in this except for three different things. The author really draws out a lot of inner monologue where it's basically repeating the same thing over and over. Ex: you don't need 5+ paragraphs to explain this princess is a secret tomboy and loves lizards.

I really liked the premise of the book. I liked how the main character feels that she only has Yulan and Marin and her situation sometimes makes me connect with her but in the book they repeated this idea too much so it became boring. Plus Yulan also became boring because he was always talking about The main character and how obsessed he was with her

3.5/5

A whole lot of nothing happened but it was kinda nice. Compared to the first book’s writing style, I found this much better and easier to read.

I kinda enjoyed the slow pacing and the mundane high school life vibes & I love Rosette.

The pacing & general story of this felt way better than the first book.

The second volume was okay. There was some character growth for the main character. However, the second volume did not have as much emotional impact as the first volume.

I will continue with this series.

found this very disappointing compared to volume one. that gave me an intriguing amount of character depth whereas this volume flattened vio and yulan out and was incredibly repetitive to boot. i really expected better from the first volume

A fun continuation of the series, I'm enjoying the antics of everyone even if I wish something bad would happen to the MCs family - though I do wonder what happened to Yulen in the original timeline.

Repetitive, with little to no story progression. I really hate the male lead, and I don't see a reason why she would suddenly out of nowhere be in love with him. Stopped 75% through - don't bother with this series.

Everything is overanalyzed and on repetitive.
Over 250 pages (ebook) could have easily been 50 pages at most..

3.5 rounded up for me personally, because I'm just weak to this book, but it's more of a 3 stars if I take away my bias, so that's what it deserves. It's full of mundane events (shopping, studying etc.) and not too much happens in this volume! I just really sympathize with the protagonist and am still so amused by how messed up people are in this.

This has a very slow first half and mainly focuses on Yulan and the protagonist. The second half took some big steps for Vio's character/romance arc, although in a rather unexpected way.
