I am a newbie author that is working on her first book. I work full time as a diesel mechanic and while it’s not always the most fun job it is stable and I am always learning something. I pet sit on the side to help fill my craving for animal contact and this way I get to play with all types!
When I get a chance to get an ARC I always ask myself if I really want to read something. I mean, if the book doesn't really speak to me, it would be unfair to read an ARC. However, when I saw the summary for this book I knew I had to read it, so I didn't know how fast I should sign up for the ARC. And this morning I could finally start reading! The concept sounded too good and I'm all for discovering new authors.
And the book didn't disappoint at all! It was a fast and easy read. I could ALMOST read it in one sitting (could have done so if it hadn't been a workday) and in a way I kinda wish that the book was a little longer. The story was quite addictive, just like the writing and I would have happily read more already. So, the few huge info-dumps in the beginning, which I'm not a fan of, were totally made up for in the rest of the book.
That's partly because the concept is just as awesome as I had hoped it would be. In this book we of course get to know our heroine and we meet the first of her guys of her future harem. I personally really love the relatively slow introduction of the characters. Apart from the main goal, finding the dagger, this book also gave us the chance to really get to know our heroine and her first hero, just like our heroine's sister.
And I quite liked the characters I was introduced to. I have to admit that I'm personally not a huge fan of all powerful weapon wielding characters, but at least our heroine is a lot more than that. Through her actions and her choices her personality shines through and I quite liked what I saw. The same can be said from our hero. I liked how, even though there was a very clear physical attraction, we learned that he was more than just handsome and hot.
I can't wait to read the rest of the journey! Since this is a debut novel, the next books can only be even more amazing!
Well what an exciting book to read. I mean we just jump right into the action with this. However, we also get a story within the story about a mage and a special dagger. So then we find out that there is more to that little tale. So we find out some pretty interesting information about Maise and what is in store for her. She is pretty tough and can wield a sword like a baddie. I definitely would not want to get on her bad side. Her sister Raina will be going on this journey with Maise. They need to find Maise's four other companion to help destroy the Darkmoor. Well she gets off to a good start when she meets Braylen. Let's say that these two will enjoy their time til they find the others. It is a fast paced book with a lot of action. I loved it. I cannot wait to see where this story will go.
Wow this is off to a flying start! An entertaining, fast paced medium burn paranormal reverse harem read that will hook you with its exciting storyline and excellent characters. Maise is our bad ass female mc in this captivating light versus dark story, the prophesied savior who needs to journey to find the Spiritus Dagger needed to win this fight. An addictive adventure that has me excited to read more!
Okay I am hooked! We meet Maise who lives with her dad and sister though her world is about to change when her dad is attacked. Before he passes away he tells her a story full of secrets that will change her life as she knows it. She is part of a prophecy that requires her, the spirit dagger, and a group of men to complete the circle. That is all I can say without spoilers but this is a great start to this new series. An enjoyable read. I really liked it so I give it 4/5 stars.
I agreed to an early copy of this book just after seeing the cover and reading a very brief story overview. RH is not my thing and I won't be continuing the series, but as it was my own fault for not reading the entire book summary, I am keeping the fact that there is a lot of s*x out of my complaints.
That being said, this is for 18+ only because of multiple romantic scenes and a decent amount of strong language, violent death, and talk of rape.
For being a first book, this is well done. There were only a few minor grammatical mistakes I noticed that were probably fixed in a final edit. I could not remember the main character's name to save my life because no one used it. And she used the term "inner s*x kitten" too many times. Get another metaphor.
If you enjoy Reverse Harems with a story line, you will probably enjoy this book.
Editing to add that I decided the story was well done enough to make me want to continue with book 2, and I read it in less than a day.
Interesting and very quick opening to a RH series. I really like the premise and the plot ideas, going on quests, collecting items, while battling the evil and gaining soulmates on the go. The characters are interesting too, and with lots of space for future growth to fulfil their potential. As I was reading the ARC version, I can excuse some minor discrepancies with the hopes this got edited, and I won't include it in the rating, but the reason for deducting a star is still there - or I'd rather say reasons. First, the FMC name is used so little (maybe 3-4 times in the whole book) that it's hard to even remember it. That can't happen in any well written story that the reader struggles to remember or even catch the name of the main protagonist. Second, I'd say the writing style is suitable for younger age than 18 years, simple- but to the point and therefore makes the pace go really fast. However, due to the sex scenes, threat of potential triggers, and violence, this is definitely a mature content. Lastly, the reference to "inner sex kitten" very strongly reminds me of 50 shades, and to my liking it was used too often. Other than that, it's an enjoyable light read that promises an entertaining series of lightning fast reads (if the first book is any indicator, they will be all novella-length instead of full novel). I'd have appreciated more in-depth backstory and world building, as well as relationship development, but these factors did not diminish the impacts of the read in this case.
I voluntarily reviewed a copy of "THE SPIRITUS DAGGER" This is my first read by author Allie Rose she did a great job with start to this new series great adventure with mystery, steam, the story grabs you from the beginning so addictive. Maisie has an adoptive sister Raina they both know that the light mages of Nualia & dark mages of Darkmoor have been at battle with one another for along time but Maise didn't know why. Maisie who believed the man that was get father after being badly injured before he dies that shes prophesied to save Nualia but she needs to find the Spiritus Dagger & for men who will also have the same dagger to fight. Maisie & Raina set out to find the dagger when she meets a mysterious stranger Braylen one of her men they get by o know one another a little before he hears about their destiny. Maisie, Braylen & Raina start out on their adventure to find her other men I loved the chemistry between her & Braylen while looking for other three men to help destroy the Darkmoor. I definitely recommend to get this book you'll enjoy the characters & interesting, entertaining, intriguing, creative unique storyline I can't wait for the next book to continue this exciting awesome read.
You just HAVE to love a book that begins with "Donkey's balls!"
I started this book resigned to "being nice." First book from a brand new author? Ya gotta be nice. But when that book begins with "Donkey's balls!" it suddenly becomes much easier to be a bit less of the polite nice, and a bit more real.
There are a few rough patches, sure. There's even the occasional awkward place where the spirit of the story isn't as smoothly conveyed as it might have been by a more experienced author. But SO WHAT? The plot is clear, the premise is intriguing, and time plus seasoning makes the whole process more palatable in the end. It's clear that she has a great story to tell, and I am excited for the next book in the series!
I wholeheartedly commend Allie Rose for stepping outside of her safe space and presenting her first work to the masses. I look forward to following her work, because she clearly has talent, imagination and the guts to follow her dream into the world where so many others (myself included) are still too cowardly to go. I see a bright future ahead for Allie!
So I want to start out with the things I didn’t quite care for, because they were far outweighed by the amazing aspects of the book. First off, you could tell in some of the sentence structure, as far as phrasing, and wording, that the author isn’t quite as experienced as some other authors you may have read. There was also a loss that, to me, the grief wasn’t quite felt through the writing, as much as it should’ve been felt by the characters, along with some parts of the story being a little rushed in explanation. I feel the author would definitely have the ability to make a prequel story, that goes back and explores the background story in the book, in detail. HOWEVER. this comes off as a completely original story, that I fell absolutely in love with. The backstory is phenomenal, and I would love to know more about it, in the future books, or in a prequel. The character believes herself a normal woman, with a loving father and sister, and works hard to help her family. I love the look we get into her life, and how she feels about her family, as well as the glimpse and information we get about them and their lives before things start unfolding. The meeting with the first of her circle was also heartwarming and allowed the character to get to know him a bit before throwing their destiny at him. I love the relationships she has with the people around her, and her love for a horse that wasn’t even hers. I don’t want to give too much information about the book, so there are still some things that aren’t hinted towards or talked about. All-in-all, This book is written well and I eagerly look forward to another book.
I love the concept of this series (daggers, yay) and this first book in the series sets it out very nicely. The characters are awesome, and I cannot wait for the plot to head full throttle towards the next book and more daggers!
I love the characters, our FMC Maise is tough but there are such tender moments between her and her sister that just fill me to the brim with a warm fuzziness!
Raina (the sister) is such an awesome character, and the familial bonds are really something you feel should be cherished in this novel which I love.
Obviously the first love interest it hot, and there are some steamy scenes that come along with him, but for me, this book is more about all the emotions it elicits, both from the reader and from the character.
I want to see where this is going because I enjoy both the concept, the characters, and the writing.
I am left wanting more from this series! It was a quick and incredible read and I cannot wait to see what is going to come next for Maise! We start off the book with a bang within the first 4 chapters and I could not put it down! Even though Maise goes through a heartbreaking moment she is ready to take on her task and figure out who she is.
She does get an instant connection with Braylen and it is sexy and intense! She is not some damsel needing saving though and can hold her own in a fight. I cannot wait to see what is going to happen next and this was a great breakout novel for Allie Rose! The writing style was amazing and it is in single POV and made me unable to put it down. There is some steam and Maise has her sister along with her for the trip and discovery as well. I am excited to see what will come next and who she will find next!
Spiritus Dagger is author Allie Rose’s debut book and it hooks you right from the start and leaves you wanting more when it ends. I really enjoyed this book and if paranormal reads are your thing, then this one should be added to your TBR list.
Maise knows that a battle has been raging between light and dark mages for over a millennia. It’s not until the day her father is attacked that it actually changes her life. Her father explains she needs to find one of five daggers and her mates who will have the other four, to help defeat the dark mages. Along the way she encounters assailants and finds her first guy.
This story is so good and the first book starts out as M/F with a building of RH in the upcoming books. I can’t wait for the next book and which dagger comes next.
The Spiritus Dagger is the first book in a series by Allie Rose. I was super excited to be gifted an ARC copy, after I was pulled in by the blurb! I feel like a few scenes could of been a little bit more too them, as it seemed rushed in parts, but for a brand new series by a baby author I loved it!
Maise seems like such a strong willed FMC, but also has some incredibly tender moments shared between her father, sister Raina and their Uncle. I love a badass FMC and can't wait to see Maise kick more ass!
Whilst on the search for the Dagger, Maise finds one of her circle, Braylen and he helps Maise and Raina go on to find the Spiritus Dagger🗡
I am looking forward to the next book, to see how the mission goes, and to see what the other men in her circle will be like.
My first read of the first time author Allie Rose's book and it was a pretty good offering for a short first book.
There was way too many utterings of 'inner sex kitten' a.k.a. one of the most annoying things about romance books where the inner thoughts of the main character repeat themselves. Once was cheesey enough but it got a bit repetitive.
I enjoyed the premise of the story with the whole magical daggers thing needing to be wielded by a 'magical circle' to get the best results from it as well as the well thought out back story.
I look forward to seeing where the story goes with the next book and as a baby author I suspect the writing will only get better.
New series, new author and a great start - I only wish it was a little longer!
When her father is attacked and gravely wounded, Maise discovers she's the chosen one, prophesised to save their world. All she has to do is find the titular dagger, and her circle of men, and kill the bad guy. Easy!
Although the series is planned as reverse harem, she only meets one mate in this book. Instant attraction and instant acceptance, which makes me think that she'll have a harder time with the rest!
The book sets up the next one, without being too much of a cliff hanger, but I'm looking forward top following along on their journey!
The Spiritus Dagger is the first book in this series and its a fast paced, quick read. Its no doubt a gripping one too. On the Death of her father Maise (FMC) finds out she has been prophesied to be part of a bigger picture to fight against Dark mages. She needs the Spiritus Dagger and 4 men to help her do it. With one handsome guy turning up - Braylen and her sister - Raina they set off to find it. This was a great start and I really liked Maise. She's bad*** and kick*** too. With that cliffhanger ending I'm looking forward to Book 2 now. A great read
This book is a quick read that gives you the first look into Maise and what she has to do after her father dies. From this point we see a few twists come into play. she also meets the handsome Braylen as she goes in search of the dagger. To then end the book with a slight cliffhanger, wanting to know who she will meet next and if they will find the daggers needed to stop the dark mages. Really enjoyable little read
This is the first book in a series and a new to me author. This story has a solid plot, it was original and I really like the concept, The female lead is a great character, well developed and I am enjoying getting to know her. The side characters and love interest that we meet in this book are also interesting and well developed. While I really like the idea of this story, I do feel like some parts of the story could use more detail and a bit more depth, they came across as a bit rushed. I am just so curious to know more! We get a peek into the backstory/ history of the blade and its first guardiana and it's so good and intriguing. I hope we get the chance in a prequel or another book in the series that shows us more! Overall, this book was entertaining, creative and unique. It was a quick, steamy, easy read and I am looking forward to seeing how the story progresses.
Ok so this is my first time reading any by this author and let me tell you that it's definitely not going to be my last. Especially if you start a book off like that. Have to love a book that begins with " Donkey's balls"!! Right. I will say that some parts of the story could use more detail and a bit more depth, they came across bit rushed for my liking. I did however liked that we got a peek into the backstory/history of the dagger and it's guardian. So when you add all the action, intrigue, and steamy encounter it made for a helluva read. Can't wait to see what's going to happen next. As always my reviews are totally voluntarily and no monetary compensation was received and the opinions I have expressed are my own.
This is a great first book for a new author, you can tell she is just getting her footing as Maise sometimes feels disconnected to what is being portrayed of her. Maise is a badass with magical powers and insane fighting abilities but it’s almost as if she’s stuck with a childish personality that puts me off her, it even made her scenes with Brayden a bit off. I hope to see this fixed in the second book, but overall an incredible world and story!
A good beginning to a new series. Does what any good first in series is suppose to do; introduce you to the main line up, the world, and big plot, and grab your attention enough to want to continue the series into the next installment. Really love Maise. Will stick around to find out what happens next. Love a good reverse harem. Like that this looks to be an epic fantasy lite series. Recommended.
I've been waiting for this book for months! Well, it didn't disappoint. It has everything, lots of action, fun and steam. This is a good start for the author and I look forward to the next book. The missing star is because I wanted it to be much, much longer!
I received an ARC copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Yes amazing read this was. I loved the blurb and it got me in to reading this book. It's not a long book but that is ok since it's a fun read. We get to know the FMC and one of her guys. I like the style of writing Allie has and this is her first book and she has done an amazing job at it I'd say. The harem grows with each book and I can't wait for the next book! Only downside I have is that I prefer longer books so that is why it is 4 stars but if it were twice as long 5 stars is what it would be.
This is my first book that I have read from this new author, and I really enjoyed it! We get to meet the main character Maise ans her sister Raina. Who just lost their father to dark mage's . Maise finds out that she is the next Spiritus Dagger weilder and she will have to save the world! We also get to meet her first soulmate Braylen. There's very little steam as this book is a good character development book...but there is some. The characters are relatable and I like where the story is headed. I think this is a great first in series book, and can't wait for the next one!
Spiritus Dagger is a slow build RH romance that is starting as a MF romance. This is a good starting block that introduces Maise, Raina and Braylen. This has great world building that is intriguing. I felt at time especially with emotions, that reader was more told than shown. Overall an fantastic first book as an author and series, I can't wait for the next book.
A great first book to the series that I can’t wait to continue reading. I absolutely love strong FMC and Maise doesn’t disappoint. The characters are great, the flow is amazing and you won’t want to put it down. If you are looking for a fun, enjoyable RH novel. I definitely recommend this one.
I really enjoyed reading this book and from the moment that I started I could not put it down until the last page was read. It moves along at a great pace which made for an easy and enjoyable read. You will fall in love with these characters no matter what happens and the story will grab you and keep you reading till the end. This is a book that needs to be on your TBR list, there is no doubts about it.
Allie Rose is a debut author and for a first book this was very intriguing. She wrote a unique story line. Maise, the primary FMC is all heart and very caring. I love her interactions with her sister and the first guy we meet from her harem. I wouldn’t say this is a fast burn, but it is a bit of a fast paced book. It was definitely worth the read. I liked the emotional ties between the characters and hope to see more character development and growth in the next books.
I’ve never read anything by this author probably because this is her first novel. I thought I’d give it a try both because of the cover and the blurb. A lot happened in this short book, and I was shocked because I didn’t know it was short when I read it. Maisie is a very tough MC, and I think her sister will end up that way, too. I can tell that the author is still new as sometimes the emotions aren’t conveyed on the page and some of the phrasing is a little simpler. However, I see a big future for this author, and I can’t wait to see the next book in this series. Recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
